Work Text:
“Augh, what good are you?” Josuke groans from their bed. He’s currently on the downswing of a nasty case of the flu, feeling better enough to be coherent and awake, but still shitty enough to stay in bed all day.
He’s also feeling well enough to complain. Tomoko had warned Okuyasu over the phone that Josuke could get rather whiny when sick and she was right. It’s a good thing he loves him.
“Now, there’s no need to go blaming Dee for it, Josuke, you know how it works,” Okuyasu says, leaning against the doorframe and trying to placate his boyfriend. He had come to check if Josuke was feeling up to eating lunch and ended up walking in to Josuke pleading with his stand to at least clear his sinuses or get rid of his lingering slight fever.
The stand looks over to Okuyasu, giving him an unimpressed look that tells him Josuke knows exactly how stubborn he’s being. Okuyasu flashes a smile in return. “Go on, Dee. I’ll handle the cry baby from here,” he says, walking towards the bed.
“Hey!” Josuke pouts as his stand drifts away. “I am not a cry baby,” he says, voice sounding moody.
Okuyasu just rolls his eyes and takes a seat on the edge of the bed. “Sure,” he says sarcastically, placing his hand on Josuke’s forehead. He’s still a bit warm but doing better.
“Hnn, that feels good,” Josuke slurs, pressing his head against the cool skin of Okuyasu’s hand. Okuyasu bites his lip at how punch drunk Josuke sounds.
“You feelin’ up for lunch?” he asks to distract himself, no use getting all worked up while Josuke’s still sick.
“Depends, you cooking?” Josuke asks in return, voice hopeful.
“Yup! Though, if you’re that desperate to feel better, the offer to get something from Tonio is still open, bro.”
Josuke shudders. “No way, man. I don’t wanna eat some soup and end up covered in snot with my nose torn off. Or what if I burst into flames to get rid of this fever? Nope, no way,” he states with finality, crossing his arms.
Okuyasu rolls his eyes again. “Drama Queen.”
“Nuh uh,” Josuke sticks his tongue out. “You’re exiled until I’m better anyway, right? He still doesn’t want you working while there’s a chance for you to bring germs in. Besides, I like your cooking better anyway.”
“Thanks,” Okuyasu genuinely flushes with pride at that. He hasn’t been working for Tonio long, but he loves spoiling his boyfriend with his newly learned skills. “Alfredo okay?”
“Perfect,” Josuke says with a wide smile before leaning forward to place a lingering kiss on Okuyasu’s shoulder. Okuyasu had reluctantly put an embargo on kisses anywhere on the face until Josuke has a smaller human-to-snot ratio. “Thanks,” Josuke ads before flopping back into bed and settling in.
Okuyasu makes his way out to their kitchen, it’s a small kitchen to match their small apartment, but he makes it work and he still gets a thrill when he thinks of anything as ‘ours’ instead of ‘mine’. He gets to work making the sauce and sets the noodles to boil.
A few years ago, he’d never have envisioned himself where he is now. He’s living with Josuke, who is his boyfriend and he’s well on his way to becoming a decent chef while Josuke’s doing an internship as a CNA at a local doctor’s office. It’s great.
Though, maybe helping out during flu season wasn’t totally in Josuke’s favor, he muses as he mixes the noodles and the sauce. Still, worry over his wellbeing aside, Okuyasu is more than happy to take care of him, even if he is whiny.
It feels kind of nice. He gets to help and feel useful and it also makes everything more intimate and real and homey.
He finally plates the food and makes his way to the bedroom. He stops at the bathroom to grab some more medicine and a glass of water and heads in.
Josuke’s asleep. His hair is slowly escaping its loose ponytail and he’s curled possessively around Okuyasu’s pillow.
With a fond sigh and a shake of his head, he returns to the kitchen and makes it so the pasta will keep until later. He can’t even be mad. In fact, Josuke looks so comfy that Okuyasu gently climbs in to bed next to him, propping his back against the headboard.
Josuke snuffles around, still sounding congested. He’s apparently awake enough to notice Okuyasu’s arrival though, because he abandons the pillow in favor of resting on Okuyasu’s lap, hugging his one leg instead.
Okuyasu cards his fingers through his hair, huffing out a laugh when Josuke practically purrs at the attention. He rests his head back against the wall, settling in himself. This is nice, he thinks, eyes growing heavy. And definitely worth the risk of getting sick in turn, if he does, he knows Josuke will be there to take care of him.
