Ryouhei stopped, kneeling down and scooping up a small pile of snow with his gloved hands and packing it into a tight ball. Seiya and Minato had yet to turn around, merely assuming that their friend was tying his shoe or something. The two were lost in some inaudible conversation, completely ignorant as to what was about to happen.
Ryouhei tossed the snowball towards Seiya, his arms well-trained from drawing the tight string of his longbow making his throw impossibly strong and accurate.
Seiya gasped as soon as the cold snow came into contact with the back of his head, small bits of snow clinging to his dark hair and the neck of his jacket hood.
He spun around, looking in the direction from whence the snowball came, coming into direct eye contact with Ryouhei, who had a wide grin plastered on his flushed face.
“Ryouhei...did you throw that?” Seiya asked, his tone dark.
“Hmm? No!” Ryouhei chirped.
“You did! It’s so fucking on,” Seiya growled playfully, smiling as he placed his hand on Minato’s shoulder, which stopped him in his tracks.
“Hm? What’s going on?” Minato raised an eyebrow, turning to face Seiya, who was already standing in the snow beside the sidewalk, rolling up a large snowball in his hands.
“Snowball fight!” Ryouhei called, waving to Minato.
“Snowb—“ he was cut off by a cold snowball smacking him clean in the chest, leaving a white firework of snow clinging to his jacket. It was followed by a deep, hearty laugh from his best friend, Seiya.
For the first time in a while, Minato laughed, rushing towards the snow-covered ground just a few steps away, eagerly scooping up an armful of snow, dropping almost all of it as he compressed a small portion of it into a snowball.
“Seiya, look out!” Ryouhei cried, noticing that Minato was about to hit the other with his snowball.
“Minato! How could you do this?!” Seiya pouted, quickly collecting more snow into a tight ball. As he was bent down, Minato cast the snowball directly at Seiya’s head, covering his hair in snow.
“Eh? For a guy with target panic, you have a good throw!” Ryouhei yelled, smacking Minato in the shoulder with the snowball.
“What was that for?” Minato questioned.
“Revenge,” Ryouhei grinned, throwing another snowball he’d had under his arm at Seiya, who was creating a large snowball from a particularly thick section of snow.
“How dare you do that when I’m defenseless?!” Seiya cried playfully, picking up the massive snowball and hitting Ryouhei in the stomach, causing him to fall backwards into the snow, laughing so hard that his face turned red.
“Oh man, my mom is gonna kill me if I track water into the house,” Ryouhei muttered, standing up and brushing the snow off his jacket vigorously.
“Eh? Do you wanna stop?” Minato asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah, we don’t want you to get in trouble,” Seiya agreed.
“Nah, it’s fine. I’ll tell her that I’ll clean it, don’t worry!” Ryouhei chirped, gathering up another snowball.
Somewhere along the way, someone lost control of their aim, tossing the snowball out towards the street.
This would’ve been perfectly acceptable, had Kaito and his cousin, Nanao hadn’t been walking home from school at that exact moment.
The three boys stood frozen as the snowball made impact with Kaito’s shoulder and part of his back, covering his red jacket in snow.
Kaito stopped, as did Nanao; turning to face the three. He looked pissed, and his angry face somehow managed to be even scarier than his regular face.
“Who did that?” He asked. “Minato, was it you? I’m going to kill you,” Kaito growled, storming off the sidewalk and into the snow.
“Huh? No way, it wasn’t me!” Minato cried, raising his hands up in defense.
“Kacchan, c’mon,” Nanao said, grabbing his cousin firmly by the arm.
“Fuck you; I’m gonna kill that bitch,” Kaito growled.
“Wait, it was me!” Ryouhei admitted, his cheeks flushing.
“Eh?! Don’t be so careless, dumbass! What would you do if I was like, a cop or something?” Kaito grumbled.
“S-Sorry, I...” Ryouhei trailed off.
“Can we join? Kacchan loves snowball fights!” Nanao laughed.
“I do not!” Kaito growled, his brown cheeks flushing.
“Okay, well, I’m gonna join in! You can sit out if you want, Kacchan,” Nanao chirped, already rolling up a snowball.
Kaito clicked his tongue, muttering to himself as he started rolling up a snowball.
“I’m only doing this because I want to get revenge on Ryouhei’s dumb ass.”
“Suuuure,” Nanao laughed, not believing his cousin’s obvious bullshit reasoning.
He knew Kaito would never admit to actually liking something like that.
