Chapter Text
“Freeze frame. Yeah that’s me, you’re probably wondering how I got myself into this situation.” Sero rubbed the back of his neck, staring at the screen. It was a still frame of a video Kaminari had captured during the dare. “Kaminari dared me to kiss the prettiest boy in class...”
“You chose dare, and you’re still single.” Kaminari huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. “Besides, I totally would have thought Bakugou was your type!”
“Clearly you don’t know me then. I like the suffer in silence types with daddy issues.” Sero stuck his tongue out at Kaminari, looking back at the screen. “Anyway, this is How to Get a Date 101. Also for the record, all of us are single.”
“I’m still confused as to how you even managed to get a date.” Ashido sighed, brushing her hair back from her face as she looked at the screen. It looked innocent enough, just a quick brush of lips against lips. “You kissed him unexpectedly and then somehow managed to get a date. Also since you guys have a date, does that mean you’re still single?”
“What can I say? I’m a natural charmer. It’s just our first date, we’ll make it official when we’re ready.” Sero winked, holding up his thumb and pointing it at himself. He could almost hear Bakugou’s eyes rolling, and he stopped his pose. “Besides, as I’ve already stated, we’re all single. Now shut up and listen.”
Kirishima pulled up a chair, sitting between Kaminari and Bakugou, legs crossed under himself. “Tell us, oh great one. How did you manage to get a date with the prettiest boy in school?”
“I fuckin’ take offense to that shitty hair.” Bakugou let out a soft growl, feeling a little dejected that even Kirishima thought Todoroki was the prettiest.
“Bakugou, you don’t need anyone telling you that you look good. Can we go back to my story now?” Sero sat down on the floor, crossing his legs under himself as he looked up at the rest of his friends. He didn’t usually mind complimenting them but, he was really excited about his date with Todoroki. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
“Ain’t that the truth…” Kaminari mumbled softly, but turned off the video. He turned the light back on, sitting in his chair once more. “Go ahead, tell us how you got a date with Todoroki.”
“Alright well, it all started after you dared me to kiss him…”
“Truth or dare?” Kaminari and the rest of the squad, minus Bakugou, were sitting in a circle in the common room, playing truth or dare. He looked at Sero, who seemed to be contemplating his answer.
“Dare.” Sero had leaned back slightly, letting his hands hold himself up. He kept his gaze on the blonde, knowing that whatever the dare was, it probably wouldn’t be something simple. The last time he chose dare, he had to sneak in and steal Bakugou’s alarm clock. Which was difficult since Bakugou was a light sleeper.
“I dare you… to kiss the prettiest boy in our class!” Kaminari grinned, watching Sero’s smile fall into a frown. Sero sat up straight, hands moving to sit in his lap as he fidgeted slightly. “Of course, since you chose dare, I’ll have to record this. Since you choosing dare is a once in a lifetime event.”
“Dude you suck. Can’t you dare me to prank Bakugou again?” Sero sighed, moving to stand up once he saw Kaminari pulling out his phone. He cracked his knuckles, looking around the common room to see if he could spot the one person he was looking for. When he didn’t see Todoroki, he realized that their classmate would probably be in his dorm room, doing homework.
“It’s only fun the first few times. I’m running out of things to tell you guys to steal. It’s also a good thing he isn’t sitting in this circle right now.” Kaminari followed Sero into the halls and to the stairs. He wasn’t really sure where Sero was heading to, considering they’d already passed the fourth floor where Bakugou’s room was. “It’s not Bakugou? Really?”
“No? Why would it be him?” Sero pushed the door to the fifth floor open, passing his own bedroom before stopping in front of Todoroki’s. He looked back over at Kaminari, watching him pressing the record button. “Do I really have to do this?”
“Yes, absolutely.” Kaminari reached around Sero to knock on the door, hiding behind the frame so Todoroki couldn’t see him. Once the door opened, he made sure the camera was focused on Sero. It wasn’t a secret knowing that Sero had a crush on Todoroki, but Kaminari supposed it was cute that Sero thought he was the prettiest. “Go on.”
Sero heard Kaminari’s whisper, leaning in and quickly brushing his lips against Todoroki’s before pulling away. As soon as it was done, Sero had started to pull away, stopping when he felt a cool hand grabbing his arm. “Todoroki, I’m super sorry, it was a dare and I should’ve asked first but like, you’re the prettiest boy in our class and-”
Todoroki had leaned in, pressing his lips against Sero’s, effectively shutting him up. He didn’t mind so much, that it was a dare. It saved him from plucking up the courage to do it himself finally. After all, he’d spent the past three years almost pining over Sero. He pulled away almost as quick as he leaned in, letting go of Sero’s arm. “We can talk about it later, I’ll come to your room.”
Kaminari stopped the recording, watching Todoroki shutting the door and Sero turning back towards him. He stood up straight, putting his phone in his pocket to wave his hand in front of his best friends’ face. “Yo, dude, you good?”
“He… He kissed me back?” Sero was amazed, bringing a hand up to his mouth. He brought the other hand up to run through his hair, letting a smile settle on his face. He watched Kaminari nod, pushing past him to go back down the stairs “Alright, it’s my turn next.”
“Dude, you’re just gonna forget that the prettiest boy just kissed you back?” Kaminari followed Sero into the stairway, following him down to the common room once more. They sat back in their spots, noticing that Bakugou had decided to join them “I dared him to kiss the prettiest boy in our class, and said prettiest boy kisses him back.”
“Wait, what? Who?” Kirishima leaned forward, waving his hand in front of Sero’s face. “He’s totally stunned, wait Kami, you recorded it right? Let’s watch it.”
Kaminari unlocked his phone, giving it to Kirishima so they could watch the video he took. He sat next to Sero, bringing his hand up to poke at Sero’s cheek. “Sero, man, you gotta come outta that trance you’re in.”
“Maybe if I punch him, it’ll help.” Bakugou cracked his knuckles, a grin settling on his face as he stretched his arm slightly.
“Bakugou no, you can’t just punch him. He kissed his crush, and said crush kissed him back. This is huge.” Ashido poked at Bakugou’s cheek with a frown, watching the video finishing once Todoroki had closed the door. “I can’t believe Todoroki is the prettiest boy in our class according to Sero.”
“The problem is, everyone is pretty according to Sero. He’s never voiced his opinion on Todoroki though.” Kirishima poked lightly at Sero’s cheek, sighing when Sero didn’t budge an inch.
Sero shifted slightly, feeling his phone vibrating in his pocket. When he pulled it out, he saw a number across the top that wasn’t in his contacts. Opening the message, it wasn’t anything special just, ‘come to your room.’ “Alright, I think I’m done for today. Should go do a bit of the homework since I’m sure someone is gonna ask for it.”
“Hey you can always tell me no!” Kaminari frowned, watching Sero standing up and sliding his phone back into his pocket. “You leaving wouldn’t have anything to do with your phone would it?”
“Nope, just bored of playing now. What dare could top the one you gave me?” Sero shrugged, taking the stairs up to the fifth floor. When he entered the hallway, he saw Todoroki standing in front of his door.
“You could’ve said no if you wanted to play truth or dare longer.” Todoroki was leaning against the wall by Sero’s door, hands shoved into his pocket. “I just figured, sooner was better than later?”
“I don’t mind, I was getting bored of truth or dare anyway.” Sero gave Todoroki a smile, unlocking his door before opening it. He turned on the light, turning towards his crush before sitting in the chair at the desk. “I’m sorry it’s a little messy…”
“It’s alright, should I leave the door open?” Todoroki stepped into Sero’s room, looking around a little before letting his eyes fall on Sero. There was that smile again, the one that could take his breath away on the best days.
“You can close it if you’d like.” Sero couldn’t stop smiling, feeling almost giddy that Todoroki was standing in his room at that exact moment. He really had to thank Kaminari later for this. “That’s if you uh, wanted a little more privacy while we talked.”
Todoroki nodded, closing the door behind him. He wasn’t really sure what to do, he’d never been in someone else’s room. If he was being honest, he’d only ever stayed in his room or the common room. “I’m not… good with words.”
“I don’t think anyone is ever really good with words. Well maybe Yaomomo but, that’s Yaomomo, she’s good with almost everything.” Sero wheeled the chair closer to the bed, patting his blanket. “You can sit you know, I don’t bite.”
“I’ve never been in someone else’s room.” Todoroki walked quietly over to the bed, sitting on the edge of it. He put his hands on his own knees, looking over Sero’s shoulder towards the window. “I don’t know how these things go.”
Sero tilted his head slightly, looking at Todoroki with a soft smile. He tapped Todoroki’s hand lightly, shifting a little closer when Todoroki finally looked at him. “What things?”
“Confessions.” Todoroki felt Sero tapping his hand, the feeling sending his heart racing just slightly faster. He kept his gaze on Sero, his eyes tracing the shape of his eyes. His eyes tracing the shape of the smile. “I don’t know… how they go…”
“I wouldn’t know either.” Sero moved his hand slowly, entwining his fingers with Todoroki’s. He looked down at their hands, bringing Todoroki’s hand closer to him. “I’ve never… confessed to anyone.”
“I know.” Todoroki felt Sero’s hand in his, feeling the warmth against his skin. He glanced down at their entwined fingers, before looking back up to Sero’s smile. “I’ve been… trying to tell you for three years.”
“Three years, huh?” Sero shifted the chair, pressing his knees against Todoroki’s. He tilted his head again, watching Todoroki nod slightly. “We didn’t get very far trying to confess did we?”
“No, we didn’t.” Todoroki moved his hand slowly, bringing it up towards Sero’s face. He let it hover close to Sero’s cheek, barely brushing against it. “I don’t know how anything works… when it comes to a crush…”
Sero closed his eyes, leaning into Todoroki’s hand slowly. He felt warmth on his cheek, opening his eyes when he felt a cool breath across his lips. “If you wanted to kiss me… you could just ask.”
“Can I…?” Todoroki felt Sero nod, watching his eyes close once more. Todoroki closed his own eyes, leaning in to press their lips together softly. He felt their noses brush together, tilting his head slightly. He pulled away after a moment, feeling his face heat up when he felt Sero squeezing his hand.
“Can we… say that we’ve confessed now?” Sero opened his eyes, never letting the soft smile slip from his lips. His lips felt warm, even if Todoroki’s lips felt a little cool. He leaned forward slightly, pressing his forehead against Todoroki’s.
“Alright…” Todoroki felt a small smile settling onto his lips, moving his hand from Sero’s cheek to rest it on his shoulder. “I want to take you on a date. I really… want to try and do this properly.”
“Just say when and where.” Sero smiled a little bigger, leaning back in the chair, Todoroki’s hand brushing against his cheek again.
“I’ll hold you to that.” Todoroki laughed slightly, glancing at Sero’s face and noticing a faint blush across his cheeks. He pulled his hand from Sero’s grasp, bringing both hands to Sero’s face. “Hanta…”
Sero felt the blush darken, hearing Todoroki speak his first name softly. He felt Todoroki pulling him a little closer, closing his eyes when he felt Todoroki’s lips on his once more. Sero let his hands settle on Todoroki’s knees, tilting his head slightly. He felt Todoroki pulling away again, and he let his eyes open. “You sure know how to kiss…”
Todoroki pulled his hands away from Sero’s cheeks, one hand coming up to rub at the back of his own neck. “Movies are… very good at showing how something goes.”
“You’ve watched romance movies…” Sero laughed, leaning in to press his forehead against Todoroki’s once more. He brought his hands up to Todoroki’s face, thumbs tracing lightly across his cheeks. “I’ve never thought of you as a romance type, Shouto.”
“There’s a lot I’ve never told anyone.” Todoroki closed his eyes, feeling Sero’s warmth against his cheeks. He shifted slightly closer, his hands on the bed so he wouldn’t fall. “Hanta…”
“Hm?” Sero leaned back slightly, tilting his head to meet Todoroki’s gaze. He could see that small smile, feeling his heart warm with the sight.
“I like you.” Todoroki spoke softly, afraid to break the warm feeling of the room. He watched another small smile settle on Sero’s lips, watching the movement before glancing back up.
“I like you too, Shouto.” Sero leaned in, brushing his lips against Todoroki’s before pulling away. “We’ll figure it out together.”
"That's how you got a date? That's the shittiest story I've ever heard soysauce face." Bakugou scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "That's not even a promise for a date either, what the hell?"
"Either wait it doesn't matter to you, Bakugou, I kissed the prettiest boy in school. Now it's your turn to finally give in and do something about your pining." Sero crossed his legs under him as he sat on the ground. He leaned back slightly, hands pressing against the floor to lean on. "Why does it matter if it's not a promise for a date? So we haven't picked a day or time yet. We'll settle that later when I go to his room to study."
"Get your man Sero!" Ashido smiled, raising her fist in the air. "Bakugou's just jealous you're the first one who actually admitted his crush."
"Bakubro has a crush? On who?" Kirishima tilted his head slightly, looking over at Ashido.
"None of your business shitty hair. We're focusing on soysauce face right now. He's the one talking about how they'll talk about their date later.
"Hey now, Sero's finally taken the step of admitting it to his crush, it just so happens his crush likes him back. I'm just mad I didn't get the whole conversation on video!" Kaminari pouted feeling Ashido patting his shoulder. "Alright, end of story. Sero's gonna go on a date and we'll sit here and tease him endlessly about it.
"At least you're all supportive." Sero laughed, letting his eyes close. It felt really good, thinking about how Todoroki had confessed in return. At least he was closer to not being single. "I won't give you anything to tease me with though."
"Sure you won't. Good luck Sero!" Ashido got up, waving slightly before leaving the room with Kaminari in tow.
"Good luck bro!" Kirishima grinned, walking over and patting Sero on the shoulder. "You guys are gonna make a great couple."
Bakugou watched Kirishima leave, the room overcome with silence after the fact. "Is confessing really that fuckin' easy?"
"Nope, it's nerve-wracking but it feels good afterwards. You should tell him soon Bakugou, otherwise he'll think you don't like him." Sero opened his eyes, looking over at the blonde. "You'll feel better after you do man."
"Yeah, alright. Seems like Kirishima's the only one who doesn't realize I like him." Bakugou laughed dryly to himself, running a hand through is hair. "That sounds weird saying it out loud.
"You'll do good man, go get him." Sero grinned at him, watching Bakugou standing up. "Good luck."
"Thanks Sero... Good luck on getting that date with Todoroki." Bakugou left the room, closing the door behind him. He let a small smile settle on his face, knowing Sero was finally getting something he wanted and deserved.
