    Summary

Zuko was never a perfect firebender like Azula, or a skilled strategist like Uncle Iroh, or as likeable as Lu Ten. No, Zuko wasn't elegant like Mother, and she didn't move fluidly like Ty Lee or with Mai's easy dignity. She wasn't a proper lady or a proper warrior, and she never stood a chance of bending lightning.
    That was okay, though.
She had her swords. Her daggers. Her poisons.
    Her secrets.
    And ten thousand different names.

    Summary

Zuko doesn't know what would have happened if he'd stayed. Maybe his father would have humiliated him further maybe he would have changed his mind (unlikely), but whatever choice he would have made Zuko made it for him. A person can only take so much before they break after all and waking up alone and in pain was the final straw for the 13 year old boy. He's lucky he ended up where he did.
3 years after the Agni Kai that left him blind and deaf on the left side of his face Zuko lives as the adopted nephew of a small town's healer. The villagers have long stopped caring about the fire dancing over his finger tips since he's proved he only uses it to brew their medicine.
Lee has no desire to be dragged back into his father's war, but what can he do when he's the only firebender in the Earth Kingdom that the avatar he was once tasked with hunting down can hope to learn from?

    Summary

When Zuko was born, he was sick. He wasn't supposed to live. Everyone said it was Zuko's fate to die. Agni disagreed. Zuko was blessed with life. He lived, much to Ozai's dismay. When Zuko is banished, he does not look for The Avatar. He doesn't believe The Avatar is still out there. Then, while Zuko and Iroh are sailing around the South Pole, they see that brilliant light in the sky. Zuko knows, this is where his life changes.

Or: Zuko, blessed by the Sun Spirit, joins the Gaang early as they're being hunted by Azula.

Listen to his orders. Don't betray him or his Institute. Don't cause worse relationships with the downworld. Don't hurt his people and don't ever, ever think you can get away with being a traitor in his territory.
