“It won’t be an actual party, just a little gathering with everyone else to celebrate – pretty please, Kacchan?”

Green puppy eyes stared at Katsuki as he caressed his lover’s back, one arm wrapped around him and another holding his hands as the two cuddled close to prevent their warmth escaping from below the blanket that covered them on the couch, the TV playing silently on the background as they just talked.

Those nights were cold, colder than any other that the winter had offered yet, and the holidays were something that seemed like more a menace for Katsuki than something to be celebrated, but he wasn’t sure why – it was the first Christmas he’d prepare away from his parents, having been gifted his own little apartment by them to commemorate his graduation and with the excuse that he’d get it so that he could be close to his internship’s office, and while the prospect of having his own place excited him at first it soon turned sour when he noticed just how hard it’d be. Although he would never fully admit it, he was beyond thankful when his boyfriend Izuku offered to move in with him, hoping to relieve some of the stress he was going through.

They had been dating for little over two years, and while the beginning had been a bit rough there was future in their relationship, something everyone around them could acknowledge; it had actually been Izuku who had approached him, confessing his feelings with a face as red as a tomato and the worst stuttering Katsuki had ever heard coming from him, and while Katsuki had admitted to himself he liked his childhood friend back it took more time for him to say the same thing to Deku without making a fool out of himself. In his own terms, he was happier than ever once everything was formalized.

There were a few rules Katsuki had established before allowing Izuku to move in with him – no trash lying around in the house, the bed had to be made at all times (this one Katsuki could overlook sometimes) and no pets. It was easier to live with him than his boyfriend had anticipated, but it did get hard whenever Katsuki was in a bad mood even if Izuku already knew how to handle it.

Izuku had already brought up the subject of holding a small Christmas meeting with the rest of the class in commemoration of both Katsuki getting his own place and the holidays themselves, but Katsuki was completely opposed to it at first, complaining that it would only be a disturbance to everyone in the building and that it was pointless, but it was Izuku’s persistence what finally managed to break down his walls. That’s why that night, holding each other under a warm blanket, Katsuki decided that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t be that bad if it meant seeing the one he loved happy.

-

“You’re not really getting that for the party, are you?” a very frustrated Katsuki groaned from across the aisle; “No one’s getting fucking drunk and throwing up in my place, just letting you know.”

With a bottle of red wine on one hand and a tiny bag of plastic mistletoes on the other Izuku only laughed, knowing fully well that there wouldn’t be a chance anyone would get drunk at all, but he refrained from correcting his beau as he placed the items in their shopping cart. “You know,” he added with a big smile as he noticed the various vegetables and meat, “for someone who was quite against this happening, I feel like you’re the one that’s most involved in all of this.”

They were at the biggest mall the city had to offer – throughout the many stores they had checked there were very little things they were interested in, both checking the list they had made earlier that week but finding about less than half of what they had written down. Now, at the food section, they were finally making up their minds about what would be served for dinner, both of them wanting something more fulfilling than a simple pizza or takeout.

Katsuki only huffed at the silly comment and grabbed the cart, turning around and heading towards the decorations’ section – Izuku watched as he hurried behind him, his legs tired but his spirits as up as they could be. Everything around them felt gleeful; the decorations, the small dancing Santa’s moving from side to side to the sound of cheerful carols, and even the ugly sweaters some people were wearing gave off the vibe he loved so much.

He wished it would’ve been the same for Katsuki though.

It was then that he caught a glimpse of something he had thought about before but hadn’t really had the guts to propose it to Katsuki: holiday costumes. He let out a soft gasp and made his way over to that section of the store, only getting to hear his boyfriend’s annoyed grunt and then the cart following him. There were a lot of different themes although most of it was based around many versions of the same Christmas figure, but that didn’t stop Izuku from going up and down looking for something a couple could wear together.

“Are you really going to take the whole damn afternoon to find something?” Katsuki said with a sigh, but when Izuku turned around to look at him he saw no signs of anger, just plain boredom. “All of these are stupid, besides the fact that we never really agreed you would be getting a costume.”

“I…” started a nervous Izuku, who kept talking after making sure he had his best puppy face on; “I was actually looking for something we could wear together Kacchan, like… to stand out as the hosts of the party.” Usually the puppy face would convince Katsuki right away, but this time he only eyed Izuku for a moment before looking away, seemingly not wanting to partake in Izuku’s plan, who then grabbed his hand much to Katsuki’s surprise. “Oh, please Kacchan! I’ll do whatever I can to make it up to you if you use one too, I swear!” Once more he took a bit of time to mull over it, but after a minute or so Katsuki gave up and walked towards the shelves, his eyes scanning everything that was presented to him.

“None of this are actually worth my money,” he started, softly grabbing one of the various Santa suits. “The fabric is too thin and it could break at any given moment. It’s worthless, but if you really want them…” He kept looking for a while until he reached for something that Izuku had actually overlooked and presented him with two items on each of his hands. “Would you prefer to be a reindeer or an elf?” he asked, showing the little green pointy hat on one hand and a big, red nose with a headband with antlers on the other. Izuku was about to reply when Katsuki came closer to him, to the point where he was only two inches away from his face, his hot breath making Izuku’s face redden. “Or,” he added with a seductive grin, “you could be the Mrs Claus to my Santa?

If he had blushed before, Izuku was now full-on red from his head to his toes; he let out a nervous laugh as he grabbed the items from Katsuki’s hands and put them back on the shelves, grabbing a Santa hat before facing him again. With what little courage he could muster right then and there, he looked to the sides and placed the hat on his head as he leaned forward and pecked his lips, something that left his lover shocked and unable to say anything, his expression changing in just a second. “I’d actually quite like that last choice,” he whispered before biting his lower lip as he pulled away.

Just fucking wait until we get home, Katsuki thought with a hint of excitement.
