Work Text:

Hizashi sang along with the songs on the radio, loud and clear. He had a fucking beautiful voice. At least Shouta thought so. He leaned back, just listening to the blonde sing. They were going to the arcade, it was summer and they were alive, and they were young, so shouldn't they just have some fun while they could? At least, that's what Hizashi had said after dragging Shota out of bed this morning, forcing him away from his nest of blankets and pillows and his cat. Honestly, he had been avoiding hanging out with Hizashi. Shouta didn't know how to feel around his best friend anymore. Things had changed since that day, since Hizashi had cried onto his shoulder and Shouta had let him. They had just laid there for hours and hours, and while nothing was weirder, it was certainly more intimate. More intense. More...just more. The city passed outside, blurring together under the hot yellow sun and the cerulean sky.

"We're here!" Hizashi sang once the car stopped, turning it off and unbuckling. He bounced out of the car, dressed in shorts that showed off his long legs, a tank top that was pure white with a black cat on top. They couldn't have mismatched any worse if they had planned it, Aizawa dressed in black jeans and a gray hoodie that hid him like a cloak. But here they were...together...friends.

Shouta let himself get dragged out of the car, following his friend. They paid for two buckets of coins and made their way to the games. First up was a fighting game, and they chose their usual characters.

"I'm so going to kick your ass!" Hizashi laughed.

"Oh don't count on it!" Shouta responded, a grin on his face.

Several minutes later, Hizashi was whining as the screen displayed his loss. Shouta laughed and grabbed his tickets, walking around. They saw a claw machine and Shouta wasted a couple minutes trying to win a cat he liked.

After a bit he gave up, sighing as he made his way to the bathroom. When he came back, Hizashi looked like a cat who had gotten into the cream, a huge Cheshire grin on his face.

"Aizawa! Look!" He held up a soft looking kitty toy. It was pink and white with big eyes.

"Oh, cool. Is it for your sister?"

"No, silly! Its for you! I couldn't grab the black one, but I hope you like this one anyhow!" He smiled.

Shouta felt his heart start to beat insanely fast as he blinked, taking the soft kitten. It was a little toy, cheap in the making but fraught with emotions. Hizashi had paid heaven only knows and worked for ten minutes to get him this silly little toy. Shouta held the toy against his chest, looking up at his taller friend.

"I- thank you..." He swallowed thickly, his heart going nuts in his chest. What was this, was he having a heart attack? Anxiety? Sudden manifestation of a quirk that made his heart speed up? Or...was it..?

"Don't mention it! Come on!" Hizashi smiled, glowing like a motherfucking star in this dirty, cheap, overcrowded arcade.

They played game after game, wack-a-mole, Pac-Man, even Cooking With Hello Kitty. Hizashi had humored him with that last one. They wasted the summer day away, the sunlight outside turning into stars. The only sign of the changing time was that neon lights flickered on inside of the dark store. Shouta felt hot, but he didn't take off his hoodie. They finally used their last coins on a game of Dance Dance revolution. When the music started, they both followed the beat. And as Shouta looked over, he felt his heart squeeze. Hizashi looked fucking beautiful. Blue-pink-green-white light from the screen of the game danced on his face. He was sweaty and laughing, he was dancing perfectly with the avatar. Shouta paused and stood there, missing every move and just staring at Hizashi dance. He looked like a star coming down to earth

"Hah! Are you even trying Ai-" Hizashi cut himself off and looked over at his dark-haired friend. Shouta looked absolutely star-struck, his eyes staring and his lips ever so slightly parted. He paused, a blush burning its way onto his cheeks at the sight. There was no mistaking it, Shouta looked like a man in love. Hizashi felt his heart squeeze and ache at the idea that the boy he had loved almost since they met loved him right back.

"YOU WIN!" The game announced, Hizashi's avatar dancing on screen while Shouta's shook its head in shame. The noise startled them, shaking the two of them out of their revere. It spat out the cheap red tickets and they silently made their way over to the prize counter, the pimple-faced kid working at the counter looking up from his phone to help them.

Hizashi used his tickets to get a CD to a band he liked. Shouta used his to buy a cat bracelet, and they stepped out of the over-heated arcade into the cool summer night. There were no stars out, the light pollution from the city keeping them from seeing any. Yamada made no moves to pull out his keys, and Shouta made no moves to get into the car. They stared at one another, cheeks flushed warm red from the heat of the arcade and...more.

  "Shouta-"

  "Yamada-"

They stared at one another for a few more moments, if only to memorize this moment. Shouta hadn't realized that Yamada had pinned him against the wall. Didn't realize that they were so close. All he could see was Yamada, his electrifyingly green eyes, his soft pink lips. He smelt like sweat and body spray, and Shouta could've gotten drunk off the scent. Yamada slowly reached up and caressed his cheek, and Shouta let himself lean into the touch

The kiss came as a surprise to both of them. Shouta closed his eyes and wrapped his arms tight around the other. It was warm and sweet and safe, it was chaste, as innocent as their thoughts were not. Under that dark, dark sky, neon washing over them like heaven, they kissed without thinking, falling into it as easy as breathing. There were no stars, so he wished on Yamada that he felt this way forever
