Chapter Text
Midoriya Izuku was a normal child, up until he was 4 years old. He idolized All Might, fanboyed at every chance he got, and wanted to be the next number one hero. All of this changed after his visit to the quirk doctor.
"I'm afraid he doesn't have a quirk." Dr. Tsubasa said apathetically. Izuku froze, and Inko whimpered; both Midoriya's knew that Hisashi, The Dragon, would not be happy. "T-That can't be possible," Inko whispered, "S-surely a simple toe joint can't tell if I-izuku has a quirk o-or not." She said, trying to reassure herself and her son. Inko was fighting a losing battle, and she sighed in resignation. "I-Izu, let's go..." She said shakily, taking him by the hand. Izuku hadn't said a word since the doctor broke his dreams, and followed his mom in a daze.
"Mama... is d-dad gonna be mad?" Izuku said softly as they walked out the clinic, viridian eyes shimmering with unshed tears. Inko nodded silently as they approached their apartment, unaware that this is the last time they'll ever step foot in it.
Izuku felt a sinking feeling in his chest, instincts acting up for reasons he didn't know. He felt dread for what lay in the apartment, but followed his Mum inside. Hisashi was in the living room, obviously waiting for them. "Welcome back my dear," Izuku's dad said with a sickeningly sweet tone, "Oh!" he added with false shock, "and there's my little Izuku~" his smile was deceivingly gentle, but Izuku knew better. "What quirk did you get, Fire-breathing like your father? Or telekinesis? What about a mutation?" He asked, tone light but underneath lay a steely, cold threat.
"He's q-quirkless, Hisashi..." Inko said softly, and his father's face went twisted into an outraged expression- his manipulative demeanor gone in an instant. "I will not have a quirkless, worthless, pathetic excuse for a son in my house Inko!" He yelled, smoke pouring from his lips. Inko gathered her courage, "He is not worthless or pathetic Hisashi, he is our son and nothing you do will change that!" her steely gaze and fierce love for her son, however, couldn't protect them from the fire that Hisashi roared out, setting the home alight and turning previously alive and strong Inko into a charred corpse.
Hisashi glared down at Izuku, "You will not tell anyone or else you'll end up like your mother." Izuku felt his chest tighten, he choked on sobs and smoke as what little remained of his mom was burnt into a crisp. He was truly alone, pathetic, and worthless. His breakdown stopped when he had a weird feeling in his gut, and his body shifted. His senses were enhanced and he could suddenly balance quite well for a 4 year old. He flicked his ea- wait, he can move his ears? Izuku felt two cat ears on his head, and learned that his extra sense of balance was from a soft greenish-black tail similar to a Maine coon's.
He had a quirk, but it only manifested after his mom got killed. His father was looking away at the moment, so Izuku took his chance and ran- hearing his father yell out after him in anger after a few steps. His steps were light and purposeful while Hisashi's were loud and threatening, he zig-zagged through burnt debris and leaped through a window, shattering glass as he escaped the apartment. He felt another tug in his chest and he turned to see Hisashi was tripping and kept getting held up. He messed up at every possible moment every time Izuku harnessed the feeling in his chest.. Hisashi had horrible luck. With quirk analysis being his favorite thing to do, he speculated that his quirk was related to the black cat superstition. 'An Mutation-Emitter quirk maybe? If so why do I feel like it's something more?'
Izuku was so deep in thought he didn't notice he transformed until he opened his eyes. Instead of being human, he was now a small, black cat. His ears perked when he heard sirens, and he made his getaway, no paramedic, pro-hero or police officer payed attention to the lithe feline that left the scene.
Eight years later
The child of Midoriya Inko and Midoriya Hisashi was a disappearance that no-one could explain, the case had gone cold long ago. Izuku was just fine, unknown to everyone else in Japan. He hid right under their noses. He called himself 'Akatani Mikumo' based off of Eraserhead's cats' names: Akai, Mimi, Tai, and Kumo. Kumo was his name, at least his cat form's. He learned a lot about Aizawa Shouta over the years, including the man's distaste for All Might.
He never understood why Eraserhead could rant to Present Mic and Midnight about the man and his 'stupid mistakes' until the day came. Izuku was sunbathing on a roof in his cat form, and he saw All Might and a random kid land nearby. He watched as All Might deflated into Yagi Toshinori and told his tragic backstory. He also watched as the man crushed the kid's dreams, disregarding the fact the kid mentioned he was bullied and no one supported him, while on a roof. The purple head of hair that defied gravity, eyes dull and mouth pulled down into a broken frown slowly became bitter.
Izuku stood and shifted as he watched the kid approach the edge, "Hey," he said casually, like he wasn't talking to a bitter and broken teen. The purple kid rounded on him and glared, "Here to crush my dreams too?" he practically snarled, angry tears pricked the corner of his eyes. "Uh no, here to ask about your quirk-" Izuku felt his brain fog, the lively sparkle of his eyes leaving as he was brainwashed.
Hitoshi looked at the small kid he brainwashed, feeling somewhat guilty. His quirk activated because he was emotional, but while the kid was brainwashed... "Do.. do you think anyone can be a hero regardless of their quirk or lack thereof? Even if my quirk is villainous? Tell the truth." He whispered, desperate hope shone ,barely visible, in his eyes. He watched as the kid dissolved into analysis, watching with interest.
"Well, if you train your body and mind, then yeah. If you are hoping to become the next number one hero though, that wouldn't be ideal considering your brainwashing quirk would work best as an underground hero such as my favorite hero- Eraserhead, however there is nothing stopping you from becoming a vigilante too, those who usually are beaten down for 'weak' 'useless' or 'villainous' quirks. Vigilantes are basically illegal heroes, but your quirk is amazing to begin with so you don't have to resort to that."
Well then. Hitoshi gave the stranger a light pat on the head, breaking their connection. (He also just wanted to pat the cat boy) "Sorry, I just had to be sure you wouldn't lie." He said apologetically. Izuku didn't mind, and began to do what he does best, "Wow! Is there a limit to how many people you can control? How detailed can your orders be? Can it work through technology? How does it feel to control someone? Can someone mentally fight you to break out of your hold? You'dbeanamazingundergroundheroweshouldbeundergroundheroestogether-"
Hitoshi cleared his throat, which caused Izuku to go on another spree. "Sorry I mumble a lot and ramble it'sreallyaproblemthatIneedtostop- heck sorry." Izuku coughed, "W-what's your name?" Izuku asked, "Mine's Akatani Mikumo." Hitoshi nodded, "Shinsou Hitoshi, nice to meet you." Izuku's eyes took on a mischievous glint, "Wanna be the best underground duo that prove All Might wrong?" Hitoshi and Izuku both smirked, spite motivating them to change the hero world all together.
"A-Ah! I gotta go! Do you have a way for me to contact you?" Hitoshi stuttered uncharacteristically, his foster parents were not gonna be happy. "Of course!" Izuku replied and added his contact information to Shinsou's phone. "Bye Shinsou-kun!" he called as Hitoshi left.
"Ah man, I forgot that I need to go back to Aizawa!" Izuku groaned and shifted, running to Aizawa's house before he got suspicious.
