Work Text:
It was a normal morning in the flat that Mirio and Tamaki had gotten just outside the busy Japanese cities. They had gotten this place immediately after they graduated UA. Here, they could see the sun rise from above the rolling hills every morning, and go back down behind them again in the evening. It was truly a sight to behold.
As the morning light streamed in, Tamaki’s dark eyes opened to adjust to the brightness. His anxiously harsh glare subsided and became relaxed, as it did more and more nowadays.
When he tried to get up, he found he was being restricted by something -or rather- someone. Oh. He looked across from him and noticed the still sleeping face of Mirio, inches from his own. Tamaki had to squint again, because, even while asleep, Mirio still shone brighter than any sun. He wanted to gaze at his beautiful boyfriend forever, but he knew they’d both have to be awake soon.
“Hey..” he spoke softly, but beyond audible in the dead silence, as he gently stroked a hand through Mirio’s hair.
Mirio responded with a slight groan and a huff as he started waking up from Tamaki’s ministrations. He stirred awake, his eyes opening slowly. Once his eyes were fully adjusted to the light, he saw Tamaki and gazed up at him, a goofy smile on his face.
“Hey, my Sunshine, why did you wake me up so early? You know it’s our day off, right?” Mirio gave a hearty chuckle, his voice still a little rough from sleep as he spoke.
Tamaki scoffed and rolled his eyes playfully, but there was no denying the smile on his face. He cuddled up to Mirio and leaned his head on his chest.
“I know, but that doesn’t mean we still don’t have to clean the house,” Tamaki retaliated, looking up at Mirio and poking his cheek.
In turn, Mirio groaned and collapsed against Tamaki’s side, halfway crushing him. When Tamaki tried to push Mirio off to no avail, Mirio chuckled again and just wrapped his arms around his boyfriend’s smaller frame. There was just no beating the mass of muscle that was squeezing Tamaki. Although, the hug-prison wasn’t uncomfortable.
“Ah c’mon, we have all day! Let’s just rest right now, please?” Mirio asked, showing his puppy dog eyes to try to convince Tamaki.
There was so little he could do to defy Mirio already, because he just loved him too much. But now, add on that adorable way that Mirio contorted his face, and Tamaki was rendered defenseless.
“Fine, fine, we can stay in bed, but no more than an hour,” Tamaki told him. Someone had to be the level headed one in the relationship, while the other was quite childish. And everyone already knows who the latter is, so the responsibility fell to Tamaki.
“Yay!” Mirio smiled wide and pulled Tamaki onto him gently as he laid on his back. He couldn’t help but shower every expanse of Tamaki’s exposed skin with kisses, even going over and over again, claiming to himself that he didn’t get a certain area before. The press of Mirio’s lips to Tamaki’s skin was feather light, and it caused the latter to shiver slightly. From his neck, to his face, even his hands, it seemed as if Tamaki was ticklish everywhere.
“You goof,” Tamaki chuckled out softly when he simply just couldn’t hold it in anymore, giving into the laughter that shook his small-ish frame.
Well, Mirio got what he wanted: There was nothing more sacred to him than Tamaki’s laugh, and, actually, any time that he showed he was happy. The way his eyes crinkled and the little, anxious squiggle of a line his mouth was always in, pull up on itself into a beautiful curve of a smile. There was no denying that Mirio felt like his heart would explode from his absolutely adorable boyfriend.
He couldn’t hold it back, there was just something about the pure happiness upon Tamaki’s face that made Mirio surge forward and gently place his lips on Tamaki’s own, like it was a way of him saving this moment forever. A way to know that he, out of everyone in the entire world, alone, was able to make Tamaki like this.
Tamaki couldn’t help but giggle as their lips met, tugging and pulling gently at Mirio’s as they kissed. He was getting much more brave with this whole thing lately, and he couldn’t be happier when Mirio responded with the most precious hum, and gently wrapped his arms around Tamaki’s waist, rubbing his back soothingly.
It seemed to last forever, but, at the same time, only a second, as a minute later, they had to pull apart for air. Stupid little thing called oxygen. Although, it didn’t stop there, for once Mirio had gained back enough breath so that he wasn’t panting, he held Tamaki close to him and feverishly kissed his face along every crevice, every little line that had been formed upon his face from smiling, laughing much more as of late. To anyone else, even to Tamaki himself, they may have been thought of as wrinkles. But to Mirio, they were a sign of just how much Tamaki had grown, how, somewhat, he thought, thanks to him, his boyfriend was able to rest easy, to find happiness, even. After all this time, they were finally together, and even Mirio, the happiest person you may ever meet, felt like he was experiencing true happiness for the first time in his life. It was incredible.
“Mirio... what gives?” Tamaki groaned slightly, but the smile remained and Mirio couldn’t help but kiss it quickly one last time.
“You’re just so beautiful when you smile,” Mirio replied, beaming at Tamaki, to where the latter had to squint a little to see him again.
Tamaki flushed vibrantly and buried his face into Mirio’s shoulder, wrapping his arms around his neck gently.
“You shine so brightly all the time, like the sun. You’re the beautiful one... not me,” Tamaki spoke softly, muffled by the fabric of Mirio’s shirt.
“But don’t you know? You’re brighter than the sun could ever be, so therefore you’re so much better than I am!” Mirio retorted, his voice booming with enthusiasm.
Tamaki couldn’t refute Mirio’s claim, so he stayed silent. Even after everything, he still managed to get flustered from his boyfriend’s words, but he had to admit, it wasn’t quite as stressful anymore.
After awhile of just laying there, Tamaki spoke up, “You know... it’s no use just arguing the whole time. We’ve already spent a good thirty minutes still laying down...”
Mirio nodded in reply and Tamaki decided to repay Mirio’s earlier favor. He held his boyfriend’s hand and planted little kisses all along it and Mirio’s face. There was no doubt about it now that Mirio felt like he had died and gone to heaven. Every little touch, every little kiss was electric to him, he never understood how amazing someone as anxious and shy as Tamaki was at this.
“So.. does this mean you agree with me?” Mirio spoke up a few minutes later. “That you’re so much better than me?”
“I didn’t say that!” Tamaki retorted and Mirio burst out into giggles.
Let’s just say, they weren’t able to stop arguing for long, and Mirio ended up keeping them in bed the whole day.
