Atem Key

Summary:

After the final battle and the Pharoah's spirit released, Yugi is having nightmares. But when the spirit of an old friend visits him maybe the two that were split can be reunited as one again.

Notes:

Yes, I am a puzzleshipper, but Aziza who you'll meet is a very special friend to Atem. His best friend growing up and till he meets Yugi he hadn't met the "one" yet which is why they are together. But she realize in my later Yugioh stories that he and Yugi are meant to be but she's important both of them as their best friend/sister and she's given a great honor in a later story.

Not sure if I'll transfer those other stories here consider how much grammar checking they'll need. I'll see but those will be only one story per day considering how badly they need to be edited.

But Aziza is a very special character as her name mean "Beloved or Precious" and she is that to both Atem and Yugi for she's a very beloved and precious friend to them.

Queen Samira

On a stormy night in Domino, Japan, Yugi lay restless in bed, troubled by a tempest in his mind. He dreamed of an Egyptian labyrinth, feeling shadows closing in on him as he desperately called for his friends, especially Atem.

"Where are you?!" Yugi cried, panic in his voice.

Suddenly, the Egyptian Gods—Obelisk, Slifer, and Ra—confronted him and unleashed their powers. Yugi screamed and fell into an abyss, but just as he thought he would fall forever, a strong arm pulled him to safety.

"Yugi, you're not alone. I’m here," the comforting voice assured him.

He awoke in a dimly lit space, greeted by Dark Magician, who helped him and offered water.

"Thank you. I feel like I’m losing my mind," Yugi murmured.

"You're safe," Dark Magician replied, concern in his eyes.

From the shadows, a familiar voice emerged. "Yugi..."

His heart raced as he turned to see Atem. Overjoyed, he embraced him, feeling Atem's strong arms but noting the distance in his expression.

"I'm so glad you're here..." Yugi whispered.

Atem smiled faintly. "I’ve missed you more than you know."

They held each other until Atem pulled back. "I couldn’t rest... not without you."

Yugi nodded softly. "We’ll figure it out." But the weight of their shared pain lingered in the silence.

"The darkness... it’s not something out there," Yugi said, trembling. "It’s in here. Inside us."

Atem nodded slowly, understanding. "I’ve felt it, too. The doubt, the fear... it’s not just the world that's broken."

Tears filled Yugi’s eyes. "I can’t imagine life without you, Atem. I’m forgetting you, and it terrifies me!" He collapsed into Atem’s arms.

Atem stroked Yugi’s hair gently. "I feel torn between worlds... My soul is split in two. But we’ll face this together."

Yugi clung to him. "How do we make the pain stop?"

"I wish I had an answer," Atem replied. "But I promise, whenever you need me, say my name… and I’ll be there."

Yugi woke from the nightmare with a scream. The room shook with glass shattering as the wind rushed through the window. His cards littered the floor.

"My cards!" Yugi gasped, scrambling to gather them.

Grandpa appeared in the doorway. "Yugi, what happened? Are you okay?"

"I... OK, I don’t know, Grandpa. It felt so real," Yugi replied while brushing aside the glass.

"Go make us hot chocolate. We’ll talk," Grandpa suggested.

Yugi nodded, still dazed. Walking to the kitchen, he felt something cold in his palm—a gold key shaped like the Millennium Puzzle’s emblem. "What... is this?" he whispered.

The next day, Yugi struggled to shake off his restless night. His friends were waiting for him.

"Yugi! What’s taking so long?" Tea called.

Joey remarked, "You look like someone who escaped from hell!"

Yugi, pale with dark circles under his eyes, said, "I didn’t sleep well."

Tea frowned. "Are you sure you’re okay?"

"I’m OK," Yugi lied, forcing a smile. "Let’s go."

Exhausted, Yugi confessed, "I can’t stop thinking about Atem. It’s like a part of me is missing."

Tea tried to comfort him. "He’s in a better place now. Keep him in your heart."

Frustrated, Tristan interjected, "You can’t pretend everything’s fine! He’s gone!"

Tension built until Tea kicked Tristan in the jaw, sending him stumbling back.

Joey, eyes wide, couldn’t help but laugh. "Damn, Tea! Broadway's calling your name."

But then he froze, his face pale. Yugi and Tristen noticed.

"Joey? What's wrong?" Yugi asked, concerned.

Joey looked down, sheepish. "Uh... I might’ve... wet myself a little... in fear. Don't judge me!"

Tea approached him, her expression softening. "It’s okay, Joey. NOKe’s judging you." The awkwardness lingered as they all mourned Atem's absence.

"It’s like there’s a hole inside us," Tea said quietly.

Yugi’s eyes widened as he remembered the key Atem had given him. "Wait, I think I know something that might help..." He pulled out the golden key. "Atem said this would help when I needed him."

The group fell silent, staring at the key. "What do you think it means?" Joey asked.

Before Yugi could answer, the school bell rang. "We’re late!" Yugi said, shoving the key back in his pocket. "Let’s meet after school. I’ll tell you more then."

Later, at a smoothie shop, Tea leaned forward. "Come on, Yugi. Show us the key."

Yugi hesitated, then placed it on the table.

"That looks... important," Tristen said.

"I bet if we tried it in every keyhole in Domino, we might find something interesting," Joey joked.

The group laughed, but Yugi felt the key was tied to something greater.

As it got late, Yugi said, "I gotta go. Thanks for the smoothies, Tea!"

Joey and Tristen insisted on walking him home. When they arrived at the game shop, the lights were off, and the door locked.

"Grandpa?" Yugi called, knocking. No answer.

"Maybe he's out back?" Joey suggested, but Yugi couldn’t find his house key.

Frustrated, he muttered, "I must’ve lost it. Where's the spare—?"

Then he remembered Atem’s key. "Maybe this will work." He placed the golden key in the door, whispered Atem's name, and turned it. The door creaked open, flooding the hallway with bright light.

"What the—?" Joey started to say, but before they could react, the light enveloped them.

As the light faded, the group found themselves in a vast desert with a grand palace ahead.

"Well, this is new," Joey muttered.

"I don't understand," Tristen said, looking around. "How did we end up here?"

Tea glanced down at the key in Yugi’s hand. "It’s like we’ve stepped into Atem's world."

Suddenly, a tall, graceful figure emerged from the sunlight. Yugi’s heart skipped a beat as the woman approached. She wore a white tunic with red and gold accents, a golden circlet crown on her head, and a cloth covering her eyes.

"Welcome, beloved friends of Pharaoh Atem," she said warmly. "I am Aziza, Pharaoh’s Secret Keeper."

The group stood in stunned silence as she invited them inside. "Please, change into garments more suited for the desert. A feast awaits."

Yugi eagerly ran ahead, followed by Joey and Tristen, while Tea rolled her eyes and kept pace.

As they walked through the palace, Yugi stumbled and cut his hand on a statue of Osiris. Aziza rushed to heal him. "Are you alright?" she asked softly.

"Thank you... You’re incredible," Yugi replied, still in awe.

"I know much about Pharaoh Atem... and you, Yugi. You are important to him," Aziza said, sensing the group's discomfort. "Please, come with me."

Tea noticed Aziza’s blindness and asked, "How do you navigate like this?"

"I’ve never seen," Aziza replied. "But my memory guides me."

The group grew cautious when Aziza warned, "Be careful. There’s a scorpion nearby."

Tristen suddenly froze in fear when he spotted the creature and stumbled back, tumbling into Joey's arms.

“Whoa, easy there!” Joey exclaimed, catching him just in time.

“Yugi, you’ve got to warn me about things like that!” Tristen snapped, still shaken, as he felt a gentle tap on his head.

“Watch your step, Tristen,” Aziza’s voice echoed. “I know everything that happens around me.”

Joey grinned. “I’ve got to say, Aziza, you’ve got some serious attitude. Makes me want to take it down a peg or two.”

Tea noticed the tension. “I think she’s nervous. She respects the Pharaoh so much... maybe that’s why she acts like that.”

They eventually reached the grand throne room. Aziza bowed and announced, “Pharaoh Atem, the children are here.”

Atem looked up with a tired smile. His expression softened when he saw Yugi, who ran to him for an embrace. “I’ve missed you, Yugi,” Atem whispered.

“I missed you too, Atem,” Yugi replied, wiping away a tear.

“Come, join us. There’s a feast prepared for you,” Atem said.

Aziza led Tea to the girls' chambers while Seto and Shaded escorted Joey and Tristen for attire. Yugi, however, was surprised to be led to a chamber with a royal figure resembling his grandfather.

“Grandpa?” Yugi gasped.

“It is an honor to serve Pharaoh,” the Vizier said, bowing.

Atem then said, “I need to show you something, Yugi. You should dress the part of a king today.”

Yugi marveled at the opulence of Atem's royal chambers. “This place is amazing,” he said.

After some playful banter, the two raced toward the dining hall, laughter echoing as they accidentally knocked over two servants.

In the banquet hall, Aziza was overseeing preparations and murmured, “I hope you find happiness, Atem.”

As Yugi skidded into the room, he bumped into Aziza. She gasped, her eyes fluttering as if caught in a trance.

The group waited, concerned, as Aziza's expression shifted. “I see him,” she whispered. “A boy named Jaden. He is the future hero. Yugi, you will pass the torch to him.”

Snapping out of her trance, Aziza said, “Thank you for your apology,” sounding confused but grateful.

The feast began with everyone in elegant Egyptian attire. Joey, ever the jokester, attempted to flirt with Aziza. “Have you ever considered a date with a guy like me?” he asked playfully.

Aziza's annoyance grew, and as her body shimmered, she transformed into a sleek cheetah. “You have crossed a line, Joey!” she growled, making him panic.

Aziza chased Joey around the room, pinning him to the floor. “For someone blind, she sure knows how to hunt,” he trembled.

"Aziza!" Atem shouted, urging her to stop. She reluctantly released Joey and returned to Atem, purring. “Will you apologize?” Atem asked gently.

“Sorry, Aziza. I didn’t mean to disrespect,” Joey mumbled.

Aziza shifted back to her human form. "Just treat people with respect," she snapped.

Yugi exclaimed, “You were amazing! How do you do that?”

Blushing, Aziza replied, “I inherited talents from my parents. My mother was a priestess, and my father was a scholar.”

Atem invited Yugi to ride with him in the desert. “We’ve got beautiful new stallions,” he said. Yugi eagerly agreed while Joey and Tristen stayed to learn fighting techniques from Seto.

Aziza chose three magnificent stallions for the ride. As they galloped through the desert, Yugi laughed in exhilaration. “This is amazing!”

“Keep up, Yugi!” Aziza encouraged.

Atem teased, “Isn’t this better than driving cars?”

Yugi shot back, “I can't even drive!”

“Maybe because you still need a booster seat,” Atem smirked.
Yugi stopped and vaulted over the rock, stunned to catch up with the others racing to the oasis. “Think you can beat them there?” he asked the stallion.

The horse surged forward, and Yugi shouted, “Whoa!” as he was bucked off into the water upon arrival.

“Atem! Yugi’s panicking! Usamah's too spirited!” Aziza yelled, leaping off to help.

Atem rushed to pull Yugi from the water and handed him his cloak. “You okay? Usamah OKbe overexcited.”

“I’m fine. Aziza is amazing,” Yugi said, impressed.

Atem blushed. “What did you say?”

“She’s incredible. I can see why you like her.”

“High treason,” Atem replied, shifting the topic as Aziza approached with water.

“Thirsty? Is Yugi alright?” she asked, looking concerned.

“Do you trust me?” Atem gently cupped her face.

“With my life,” she replied.

“And Yugi?”

“I trust him like I trust you. You two are brothers,” she said. “But I know my place. I love you both, and letting things unfold naturally is best.”

“You're right. We have time,” Atem said softly.

Aziza smiled at Yugi. “You’re an amazing young man. I wish I could see the world through your eyes.”

Yugi blinked in surprise.

“Well,” Atem said, mischievously glancing at Yugi, “would you mind if Aziza kissed you?”

Yugi choked on his drink. "Why would she want to kiss me?"

Aziza laughed softly. “So I can see the world through your eyes, even for a moment.”

Yugi looked to Atem, who nodded. “Sure, if it’s okay with Atem.”

Aziza leaned in and gently kissed Yugi. He froze in surprise, and joy filled his heart. When she pulled away, her eyes shifted to a brilliant shade of bluish-purple.

“Wow, your world is incredible,” she whispered, her voice full of awe. “I can feel everything you’ve felt—your friendships, your struggles. It’s all so full of love.” She sighed and collapsed into Atem's arms.

Yugi stood in awe. "Did she just... see all of my life instantly?"

Aziza stirred, her voice faint. "It was overwhelming… your world, your heart, so full of color and life. I’d love to live in it." She smiled weakly. "Thank you, Atem. I’m glad to have met someone like Yugi."

“It’s the Key," Atem said softly. "My father gave it to me after my return to the afterlife. He told me it would grant my heart’s desire.”

Yugi listened intently as Atem recalled his father’s words: "Put this key in a lock, say my name, and knock. You will get what you desire most.”

Yugi understood the key’s more profound significance. "So, it’s a way to bring us together again?"

"Yes," Atem replied. "It’s a gift for all of us—a way to ensure we’re never truly separated."

As evening drew near, everyone thanked Atem. "This was the best day," Téa said as she enjoyed some grapes.

"Yeah, buddy! It’s great to know you’re okay," Joey said as the desert breeze ruffled his golden hair.

"Yeah, we’re happy. You have everything," Tristen remarked, stretching out on a seat.

"I don’t have anything without you all," Atem said, gazing at his people. "No objects can replace the treasure you are to me."

"The key I gave to Yugi is important. If you ever need me—just put it in a lock, say my name, and knock. It’s time for you to go home, but we can meet again soon." He and Aziza led them to a door.

"This is how you return to your world. Please come again—it was so much fun. Just don’t abuse the key’s power." Aziza kissed and hugged everyone, then handed Yugi a lock of her hair as a thank-you.

After saying goodbye to the Pharaoh, they promised to visit again. They performed the ritual, and a blinding white light engulfed them. Moments later, they stood outside the game shop where they had first left.

“OK! Did that happen? Did we take an unexpected trip to Ancient Egypt?” Joey asked, incredulous as he looked down at his regular street clothes.

“Was it just a dream, or was it real?” Tea added, running her fingers through her short hair.

Amid overlapping questions, Yugi quietly stared at the key until they heard footsteps approaching. Everyone saw Grandpa coming down the street with take-out boxes, humming to himself.

“Hello, everyone! What are you doing out in the cold? I just picked up dinner on my way home from the repair shop,” he said, puzzled.

“The door is locked. Grandpa and I lost my house key,” Yugi replied, reaching for the take-out boxes.

“Yugi! What happened?” Grandpa asked, alarmed.

“Uh, what? What’s wrong?” Yugi responded, confused.

“How did you cut your hand so badly?! Let’s get you to the emergency room!” Grandpa exclaimed as they hurried to a nearby clinic.

That night, Yugi was in his room, smiling for the first time in weeks. He found a small package on his doorstep containing Egyptian clothes from their adventure. After hanging the outfit in his closet, he went to bed.

After the nurse stitched his hand, Yugi and his friends shared their adventure with Grandpa, who advised them to keep it a secret unless necessary.

Soon, Yugi fell into a peaceful sleep. The closet door slowly opened, and a semi-transparent Atem emerged. He took Yugi's hand and sat on the bed.

“Yugi, I will always be your friend. You were more than my friend; you were my Aibou. I can’t wait for you to visit again. Good night,” Atem said softly, tucking him in.

As Atem returned to the closet, Yugi murmured, “I love you, my Aibou. Thank you for always being there.”

“See you soon, Aibou.” Atem disappeared, and Yugi rolled over to sleep.

The room was illuminated by silver moonlight, and the golden key around Yugi's neck glimmered, a reminder that time and death would not separate them.
