Summary
Yugi's life had always been pretty normal. The only thing not quite normal were his missing memories of two of his high school years. And maybe the fact that he could read hieroglyphs as if they were written in his native language. And there was the issue that he never looked quite like himself on these old recordings of his tournament duels.
Either way, all of this was still pretty damn normal compared to suddenly being separated from his study group, finding himself in the middle of the desert, only to get abducted by slave traders, just because he touched some pendant! When he took the gamble of trusting that strangely familiar Yami, he had hoped to not end up in an even worse situation, true, but he also hadn't expected to find a lost bond and a love so deep it left him feeling stunned and breathless.
Or: Yugi suffers from severe separation trauma caused by Atem leaving after their ceremonial duel, making him forget all about his other self. Unrelated to that, he finds himself transported to and enslaved in Ancient Egypt. But as always, Atem has his back. And turns his life around entirely.

And Atem is somewhere way outside of his home city, alone, and is completely and utterly lost. Enter a boy with the eyes of the skies, feels for the lost boy and decides to help him. And while their travel together was short lived, Atem finds comfort from this boy named Seto. In turn, Seto finds himself drawn to protect this strange boy who might not be all that he seems. An incident occurs where someone tries to kill Atem, and Seto protects him. This leads to a chain of events where Seto earns himself a place in the court as priest, while Bakura slinks away with greater thirst for revenge.
In the future, the pharaoh's spirit starts to experience occasional episodes where he tends to wander while his brain is completely shut off from the outside world. And somehow his rival, Seto Kaiba, is the one who crosses his path each time this happens? It happens enough that Kaiba recognizes an extreme reaction to PTSD and changes his approach completely to ease Yami Yugi out of his episode. Things get complicated when their memories returned, and after the Ceremonial Duel.
