It begins during the orphans' escape scene.

Note 2: I do not own the Seraph of the End series nor its characters.

Chapter Text

They could only watch as Ferid slaughtered all of the orphans, and no matter how much he begged, Mika could not do anything.

“Please, I beg you! Stop….” His voice trailing off as tears fell from desperation.

Blood stained the grand chamber. It didn’t matter how bright the chamber was, but what was once stainless, now tainted with the red liquid.

“Ah~. Only you two left, huh? Well then, let’s have some more fuuun~, shall we?”

“Yuu-chan, you go escape. I’ll buy you the time.”

“What? No! You can’t do th…” Yuu tried to muster out only to be cut off by the blond boy beside him.

“It’s okay Yuu. We’re family. I’ll happily die so you could live.” With that said, Mika charged forward to meet the vampire noble, gun in hand.

“No, wait! MIKAA!” Yuu could only watch as the noble quickly disarmed the blond’s weapon and stabbed Mika’s chest with his arm.

“Oh, Mika! How noble of you to do such a thing!.” Ferid chimed with glee.

Yuu rushed forward and grabbed the gun that was flung aside.

“How dare you do this!” Yuu said as he pulled the trigger.

BANG! The gunshot echoed through the chamber, surely drawing attention from other vampires in the underground city.

Ferid fell straight forward like a statue that was being torn down during a revolt.

Mika fell to the floor, bleeding heavily and clinging on to dear life. Mika could feel his blood pouring out and slowly losing consciousness.

“Yuu…. you need to go…” Mika said with a solemn tone, baring being able to speak.

“I can’t just leave you behind like this! You’re my family, Mika. I can’t go on without you.” Yuu said as tears fell down his face.

Mika was happy that Yuu finally called him “family” for once. The boy had always been stubborn, pushing the other orphans away. It was too bad that the other orphans, especially Akane wasn’t here to hear this.

“Just go!... I don’t think I’ll make it anyway. I’d die happy to know that you made it out alive. Something no one else has been able to achieve. Live for me...” Mika muttered with his remaining breaths.

Footsteps could be heard from afar in the grand chamber. Yuu knew what was coming. He wiped his tears, looked back one final time, and ran.

He ran and ran and ran, without looking back once. He held his eyes shut, thinking about everything that just happened, hoping that it was all just a dream.

The air suddenly became cold, so cold that the livestock clothing that were provided could no longer contain his warmth and he was slowly freezing.

Snow fluttered through the sky, with the landscape covered in a white blanket. Yuu couldn’t believe it, taking in the world he had not seen in years. Yuu looked up at the sky.

The blue sky, the same color as Mika’s eyes, Yuu wondered.

“Never thought I’d see this sky again, but it sure is beautiful.” He said to himself with a slight smile on his face.

Notes:

It's slightly different in some ways, but the main divergence will occur in the next chapter.
