Teach Me Something New

Summary:

Erasermic Week, day 6 : Admiration

Hizashi's quirk is strong. Really strong. It was the reason he had been accepted into UA highschool, after all, and he prided himself on being one of the strongest in class 1-A.
That is, until he fights a peculiar raven haired boy from general studies at the sport's festival.

Work Text:

He had seen the boy during the race, and in the cavalry battle as well. Black hair framed his face, and he seemed to have an uncaring attitude towards all this. Hizashi had never seen him before, so he could only assume that the boy was in general studies. But, that didn't change the fact that the raven — Aizawa Shouta was his name — was his opponent for the quarter-finals. The blond was confident in his abilities. Even if this kid had beaten his classmates, there was no way in hell he was going to beat Hizashi. So, when the buzzer signaled the start of the match, the blond went with his signature move. Well, signature move was a bit of an overstatement, since he was just yelling at the raven using his quirk. It was meant to make his ears ring, disorienting him long enough for Hizashi to shove him out of the ring.

It wasn't hard to imagine his surprise when nothing happened.

There was no sound coming out of his throat as he tried to activate his quirk, making him freeze. What..? How was that possible? Was there something- Hizashi didn't get to finish that thought, the raven haired boy suddenly in his space and punching him in the jaw. The blond reeled back, managing to block the second blow and jump back. For a moment, he could see Aizawa's eyes glowing red, his hair seeming to float above him before it fell back down.

“What's wrong?” The boy asked in a disinterested tone, even as a sort of smirk crossed over his face. “I thought you were that voice quirk kid. Aren't you going to scream at me or whatever?” Aizawa raised a hand, crooking his finger at the blond tauntingly. “Come on then, Yamada. Show me what you've got.”

That pissed Hizashi off. He was supposed to be one of the best in class 1-A, and he was here getting his ass kicked by a general studies kid? Where was the logic in that? So, instead of responding, he geared himself up for another yell. And, once again, nothing came out. But at least this time he was expecting the attack, managing to see that Aizawa's hair was up once again, his eyes glowing a bright shade of red.

It was once he stopped himself from skidding to far that Hizashi noticed exactly how close he was to the edge of the ring. He was going to have to go on the offensive soon, or he would be done for. Then again, he wasn't very well versed in physical combat, so he would probably just end up embarrassing himself... Not that he had much choice in the matter as Aizawa ran towards him again. Now that he'd noticed it, it was obvious when the change occurred in the raven haired boy. They were almost simultaneous with one another.

Hizashi decided it was now or never, running towards Aizawa as well. The raven didn't seem to be thrown off by that at all, throwing a punch that the blond hardly managed to dodge. He threw a punch of his own, but Aizawa just ducked under it, kicking him square in the gut and sending him out of the ring and to the floor below. Giving a little groan, he pushed himself up onto his elbows and rubbed at his head.

“Jeez, talk about pathetic.” Hizashi heard from above him, and looked up to see the raven looking down at him from the stadium platform. “I thought you kids from the hero course were supposed to be strong or something? Kinda sucks that you guys don't know basic defense techniques alongside training your quirks.” Aizawa gave a sigh, before turning and walking out of sight.

It was humiliating, being talked down to like that. But then again, it wasn't like he didn't deserve it... What he couldn't figure out, was why his quirk hadn't worked when he'd tried to use it.

“I'm not here to make friends.”

Those words stuck in blond's head when the raven haired boy first said them. Aizawa had won the sports festival over a month ago and, after the internships, had been transferred to the hero course last week. And of course, he'd been put in Hizashi's class. Not that he really minded all that much anymore...

It was weird, the fluttering feeling in his chest that always popped up whenever he thought about the raven haired boy. Hizashi wasn't quite sure what it was, but he didn't feel it for anyone else in the class. At first, he'd thought that was Aizawa's quirk, making people feel funny somehow, but then he learned about his 'erasure'. The quirk was kinda cool actually, as the raven could erase the quirks of whoever he looked at, within a few limits.

The raven couldn't erase mutant quirks, or quirks that were always passively active, but transformation or emitter type quirks like his own were fair game. In addition to that, it seemed like his quirk gave him some problems with his eyes as well, as he carried around eye drops and would use them regularly. Then again, Hizashi wasn't one to talk about drawbacks, since his own quirk could seriously damage his ears if he wasn't careful, not to mention the motion-sickness like symptoms he'd get if he used too high of a frequency.

In fact, the blond was partially deaf in one ear due to his quirk, which was probably why he didn't hear Aizawa trying to talk to him until he got a punch in the shoulder. “Ow, that hurt!” He said, a little louder than necessary, but the raven either didn't notice or didn't care. “Sorry, I didn't hear you. What's up?” Hizashi's voice was cheerful, forever stuck in an upbeat tone.

“I was asking if you were doing anything later.” The raven clarified, reaching up and rubbing the back of his neck. “I'm practicing something new, and I need someone to test it on.” He muttered, and Hizashi felt that feeling in his chest once again. “If you're doing something, that's fine, I'll just-”

“No, it's cool!” The blond interrupted him, giving a little shrug. “I don't got anything going on today, so I'd be happy to help out listener!” Hizashi gave Aizawa a grin, only to see him roll his eyes and start off towards the training rooms. “Awww, c'mon Aizawa. Not even a smile? You're so boring.”

The raven didn't answer, and the walk to the training rooms ended up being a very boring one. Way too quiet for Hizashi's tastes. But, luckily, it was also short. They walked into the training room, and Aizawa took off his backpack. The blond did the same, only to pause when he saw the other boy take out what looked like a ball of cloth.

“What's that scarf for?” He asked, genuinely confused as Aizawa slipped it on. “It's not that cold in here, is it?”

The raven just rolled his eyes at him again. “It's not a scarf, moron. It's a cloth made of a steel wire alloy and it's woven with carbon nanofibers. At least, that's what the guy at the support department told me.” He explained, taking one end of the cloth (where he got it out of the lump of tangled cloth around his neck, Hizashi wasn't sure) and running his fingers over the cloth. “Go stand over there. I'm gonna throw this at you and try to grab you with it.”

Kinda weird, but Hizashi did as he was told. He watched as Aizawa grabbed the cloth and it came to life around him like a snake. It was mesmerizing to watch, until the raven threw one end of the cloth at him. Then, the whole thing became lifeless again, and the cloth fell just a few feet short of the blond. He just sighed, dragging it back before starting again.

This went on for a while, the raven haired boy tossing the end of the cloth at him again and again with no success. It was the time that the fabric actually managed to hit Hizashi before falling to the ground again that was the last straw. “Dammit!” Aizawa snapped, walking over and snatching up the end of the cloth before glaring at it. “Why can't I get this stupid thing right?” This surprised the blond a bit, as he'd never seen any expression on the raven's face besides disinterest and boredom.

“I mean, it can't be that easy, or you wouldn't need me for practice, right?” He asked, but Aizawa just threw him a slight glare before looking back at the cloth with a defeated expression. “Will you teach me how to fight?” Hizashi asked suddenly, making the other boy look at him with a bit of shock this time. He wasn't really paying attention to how close he was until Aizawa took a step back. “S-Sorry, it's just... You were so cool at the sports festival, so I just wanted to ask if you could show me sometime!” He gave the raven a grin, shoving his hands into his pockets as a slight heat crept up his neck.

Aizawa just stared at him for a long moment. “You're serious?” He asked the blond, sounding shocked. “You want to learn... From me?” Hizashi just gave him a nod, making the raven turn away. “Why? I'm sure there are plenty of people you could learn from.”

“Yeah, probably, but... I mean, you're one of the only people I know that knows martial arts, and I'd like to know it just in case!” Hizashi said with a grin, crossing his arms behind his head. “Like you said at the sports festival, it's kinda silly that we aren't learning it. So, will you teach me Aizawa?”

Aizawa was silent for a long while and, for a moment, the blond wondered if it had really been a good idea to ask. Then, the raven spoke. “How about this? I'll teach you some defense techniques if you help me practice with this.” He held up the gray cloth, looking at it like it had insulted him. Then, his eyes softened as he looked back at Hizashi. “Sound like a deal?”

“Perfect.” The blond answered almost too quickly, and he could feel his face starting to heat up. “Yeah, cool, sounds good listener!” He said with a grin, putting his hands back down. “How about we get back to it, yeah?” Aizawa gave a nod, turning back to his scarf with a calculating expression. Like he was trying to figure out some difficult math problem, and the scarf was the only obstacle standing in his way. It was at that exact moment that Hizashi realized...

He was in love with Aizawa Shouta...
