Chapter 1: Resentment

Chapter Text

Curly hated being a robot.

She held herself responsible for killing all those poor Mimiga many years ago. She thought she was on the side of the ones rebelling against the Doctor. No. She was their oppressor all along, and the mushroom proven to give back her memories made it clear.

It made her want to go back to the Sand Zone, where the Mimigas she once took under her wing currently reside. Except she now bears a mission in need of accomplishing, and she couldn’t get the thought of herself killing the Mimigas out of her mind.

Curly told Quote everything. At least, everything she knew. She even told him his name, which he also didn’t know about. Did he, perhaps, have amnesia too?

She continued to lie in the bed provided by the Plantation, promising that she’ll catch up with him later. For now, she needed rest. It’s been a long day, anyway.

She spent her time thinking of the time she spent without a memory of her identity. She didn’t really know how she ended up with those Mimigas, as she really only knew that she woke up there. However, the Mimigas took her as a caretaker, which was the only thing she cared about at the time.

Speaking of which, that was around the time she reunited with Quote. She remembered everything about that encounter. From the fight she had with him, to the anxiety that stirred within her when she assumed he was going to hurt the Mimiga she held in her possession. She was glad he was on her side, once he assured her that wasn’t his plan.

Curly always found herself more human than any of the other soldier robots on the Island, which made sense why she would get jumpy in Quote’s presence. Though she didn’t want to admit it (or show it in any way), she felt something for him. Apparently, it is what humans call ‘love.’ Though was it really that? She didn’t know for sure.

Despite how embarrassing it was that Quote saved her after sacrificing herself, she didn’t find it regrettable in the slightest, somehow. Was it something deep inside her that she wanted to be saved, or did she really love him? Are robots even supposed to feel love, despite feeling human?

Part of her wished that she should have died there, as she didn’t want to cause more harm to life around her as a robot. Especially the Mimiga. Despite some of the Mimiga being on good terms with her, the horrible pit in her chest refused to untighten, after all this time.

Did she really deserve to save this world, knowing this?

And how did Quote feel about this? Did he feel anything about the current state of events? Knowing his caring nature, he probably did, but he never showed it. He mainly only showed how he felt through his actions, but does that mean that he’s neutral on the subject? Has he moved on from the fact? Does he feel that he is able to redeem himself to the Mimiga? She should ask him about that next time they meet.

Curly wondered if she was the same robot she was back when the war began. Probably not, but she probably would never know. Even when she now has her memories back, there are still some gaps in the rest of her memory.

She looked about the Plantation. Mimigas, as well as enemies, were everywhere. She still didn’t feel well enough to defeat the enemies, but once she is, she’ll be able to slay said enemies and maybe catch up with Quote as she promised.

She recalled what happened a few moments ago. The Iron Bond she kept safely since forever is now in Quote’s possession, in memory of her friendship. Though maybe it will be something more? She still wasn’t sure if that was possible.

Curly stood up, tired of her thoughts going full circle. The Mimiga standing next to her warned her that it wasn't the best decision to get up right after she just got injured, but she didn’t listen. She couldn’t just idle around, as who knows when the Doctor is going to take over the world?

She took her machine gun out, shooting them at enemies whenever possible. The Mimigas paid no attention to her, refusing to tell her where she was supposed to go. She soon came across what looked to be a hideout of some sort. Someone inside asked for a password. She said the one she overheard Sue saying, and the person allowed her inside the hideout.

The first thing Curly saw was a woman sporting green hair. She looked like Kazuma, in a way. Could that be Kazuma’s mother? That would be too much of a coincidence if it was.

“Hello,” She said, walking towards Curly wearing a smile on her face. “How can I help you? Are you lost?”

“No,” Curly replied, though maybe she was, “I was just wondering if you knew how to leave this place? Do you know how to get to the Balcony, by any chance?”

The woman, apparently her name is Momorin, nodded. “Why, yes. I just took someone just like you up there.” She opened the door. “Follow me.”

Must’ve been Quote. She thought as she followed Momorin’s lead.

There stood a large rocket, the sides painted a stripe of blue. Momorin turned to Curly. “This should take you there.”

“Thank you, miss!” Curly said, enthused. This could take her to Quote in no time! And then they can save the world together.

Momorin nodded, the smile still plastered on her face.

Curly got onto the rocket, hearing its engine roar loudly to the point where every living thing in the Plantation could hear. And with that, she watched as she was hurtled upwards to her destination, watching the denizens of the Plantation grow smaller and smaller.
