Notes:

So this idea came into my mind and I can't seem to be free from it hence this post. It's been a while since I've written anything so I hope I still have it in me. I have a clear idea on where I want this story to go but putting it in writing isn't always easy so I hope all of you will be patient with me. Enjoy~

Chapter Text

Barely awake and bleary-eyed, dread washes over you as the familiar tone from your mobile woke you from your much needed slumber.

'What now…?'

You’ve set-up that specific ringtone to alert you that whoever or whatever was on the other line would be none other than work. You cursed under your breath knowing that nothing ever good came from hearing that ringtone. Groaning in defeat, you reached over your night stand with an outstretched arm to the offending device.

Blinking at the screen, you glanced over the time. It showed that it was in the early hour of 10 minutes past-two. You sighed deeply.

“Hello? [Name] speaking.” you said picking-up the call.

“[Last Name]-san! Thank God!” the person on the other line answered ecstatically. “We need your help. Could you come in?”

“Eh?” was your only reply not fully grasping the situation whilst yawning.

“There’s a villainous attack in the city and we need all the help we can get! Please…” the person on the other line pleaded, stress and worry evident in their tone.

You sit yourself up on your bed and rubbed your eyes awake. You took the television remote on your other hand to turn in on. In it, you saw the news of the devastation of the city and the unaccounted for casualties.

“Understood. I’ll be there as soon as I can.” you answered before ending the call.

You stood up and stretched your limbs while taking a deep breath.

‘Another day in the battlefield…’ you thought as you readied yourself, grabbing your work clothes in the closet and rushing your morning routine.

Once done, you took your work and emergency bags. With your keys on hand, you headed out of your apartment rushing to your workplace wishing for the best.

--------------------------------------------------------

To say that the site before you was chaotic was an understatement. There were people rushing in and about the area, some crying their eyes out, others were panicking, while others were severely injured that could hardly grasp their situation. Amidst the confusion were your colleagues doing their best to be level-headed and calm, a much needed attitude in such turmoil.

You spot the familiar silhouette of your superior and made your way to her to receive instructions.

Your supervisor turned towards you with an exhausted smile on her face upon hearing your approach.

“[Last Name]-san thank you for coming. We’re almost done triaging.” She says as she put yet another coloured ribbon on to a patient sitting by the wall. “The code team could use your help though…” she pointed to the other side of the area where a group of people were attending to some of the more severely injured people.

You nod and made your way to the team bracing yourself for the worst.

“[Last Name]-chan!” you were called enthusiastically by your co-worker and you wave back in response. The other people in the team turned towards you at your approach. Some were familiar to you and you nodded towards them in greeting.

“I’m [Last Name] [Name]. CCU Nurse. Anything I could help you with?” you introduced.

--------------------------------------------------------

“There.” You said to yourself while wiping the sweat from your forehead as you finished rechecking the well-being of your stabilized patient.

“He’s good to go to the O.R.” you relayed to the team as the final preparations for the patient transport were being done.

In the last few hours, your team had attended to different patients. One had gone to Severe Respiratory Distress that intubation was imminent. One had gone to hypovolemic shock due to massive blood loss that securing an IV line was such a feat in itself. While your recent one had multiple trauma hence the need for operation.

Amidst the disarray you reached into your bag to grab some energy and chocolate bars and shared your rations to your colleagues. Something easy to eat and disposed of is an essential to your workplace because you never know when you’ll be given the luxury to actually have a proper bite to fill your stomach especially in such a hectic environment. Your colleagues thanked you for your consideration and foresight as they shared the supply amongst themselves.

“[Last Name]-san!” you heard your name being called out by your supervisor.

You raised an eyebrow confused but put your hand up to catch her attention.

“Things are already settling. We’ll handle it from here.” she said to you.

“Okay.” You replied with a weak smile.

'I can finally go back home and rest' you thought while stretching your limbs thankful that your task was already done.

“You're needed upstairs.” She continued.

Or so you thought…

You faced her, expression unreadable. You honestly were exhausted to the bone. You got the call for help less than eight hours since your last shift and you weren’t sure if you’ll be productive anymore.

“But we’re expecting another patient to come in an hour” the code fellow, Amamiya-sensei, butted in clearly not pleased. The blue-haired male stood beside you while taking a bite from the energy bar you provided.

“Just because the amount of patients are dwindling down doesn’t mean you should sever our manpower.” He said as a frown form on his face.

You could feel some eyes being directed towards your direction due to the commotion.

“You don’t have to worry; I’ll be replacing her with one of the Emergent Nurses available.” Your supervisor motioned for someone to approach. In came a very jovial female nurse giggling and all.

“Hello Amamiya-sensei” she addresses the doctor sweetly with a blush painting her face.

The said doctor groaned. “Please don't leave me with someone like her...” He whispered to you while trying to maintain a professional face.

“Come on. Give her a chance.” You replied.

“I need someone competent, not someone who’ll swoon over whatever I say. Damn it” he continued your quiet exchange.

You somewhat sympathize the doctor. He was young and attractive so it wasn’t uncommon for some people to act like love-sick teenagers in his presence. He was constantly being teased by people in and out of his department and it has taken a toll on him.

“Oh please. I wasn’t even supposed to be here. I’m sure you could manage Mr. Good-looking” You snickered under your breath.

“Maybe if you agree to be my girlfriend then they’ll probably leave me alone” he countered with a playful smirk on his face.

“As if that’ll solve your problem. I’d rather not deal with your admirers” you respond as you try your best to not roll your eyes as the said nurse neared.

“[Last Name]-san you are to report to the lobby. A team would brief you there” your supervisor said to you while ushering you out of the Emergency Department.

“Amamiya-sensei this is…” were the last words you heard as you make your way out to the lobby not bothering to look back. The sooner you finish whatever task you had to do, the sooner you’d get back home.

--------------------------------------------------------

You approach a group of medical personnel discussing with a group of police and heroes.

“Uhmm… Excuse me…” you interrupted. “I’m [Last Name] [Name]. I was asked to go here for another assignment…” you said unsure of the tense atmosphere.

“Ah [Last Name]-san” your CCU director called within the group. “We’ll be heading up to the roof.”

You followed the group into the lift to head towards the rooftop. Upon reaching your destination the head of each respective department faced your group.

“We are expecting the arrival of a VIP” the director started. “The medical and security personnel in this group will be kept to a minimum to avoid any information leaks. You are all expected to not disclose this person’s identity nor stay here.”

It was unfair.

This person has the hospital in their beck and call while most of the people were suffering. The teams downstairs were overflowing with patients with a minimum of 8-10 patient ratio and here comes a person who has a whole team of medical professionals for themselves. Talk about imbalance. You fight the urge to scoff.

You looked around your group counting the number of medical personnel to be less than ten even if you included the director but none were of the same profession as you. Your heart beat faster as realisation hit you.

“Uhmm… Excuse me sir but I don’t see any other nurse here…” you pointed out.

“Ah yes. We’ve confirmed that the VIP isn’t in any life-threatening condition but still needs to be monitored for a while. You’ll be the private duty nurse in the duration of the VIP’s stay.” the director explained as you fight the urge not to visibly frown.

'Isn't in any life-threatening condition? Then what the hell am I still doing here!?' you thought irately.

'Are they expecting me to be in this VIP’s beck and call 24/7 then!?’ you huffed.

You weren’t given anytime to argue as a helicopter approached the landing a few feet away from your group.

“Okay team!” the director called out approaching the vehicle.

They place the patient on a stretcher securing him while the emergency response team endorses the patient’s status.

“Patient is a 29-year old male with an episode Supraventricular Tachycardia lasting for 2 minutes, unprompted and resolved spontaneously. Vital signs remained stable throughout the duration of care. Blood pressure ranges from 120-110/80mmHg. Heart rate around 80s, regular in rhythm. No recurrence of arrhythmia or irregularities noted. Denies discomfort, dizziness or dyspnoea. Noted laceration on right forearm around half centimetre deep…” the endorsement continued as your team wheel the patient to a private suite.

You looked over the patient to assess him. You could see his fair skin despite the dirt covering most of it. There weren’t any indication that he has any internal bleeding so you were thankful for that. You also took notice of his attire which was awfully familiar as you’ve seen it countless of times in the television.

“Excuse me sir but do you feel any pain, dizziness, or difficulty in breathing?” you asked just to make sure.

“No. I feel fine” he replied.

“Do you know the date today or where you are right now?” you asked trying to gauge his coherence and he answered your query correctly.

“Could you please state your name then?” you asked as you look over his face after inspecting his body for any more injuries.

You were then greeted with the most hypnotizing set of eyes.

Todoroki Shoto.” was his reply.

Notes:

So... Thoughts?

Sorry for the slow build up. I promise there will be a lot more interaction in the upcoming chapters.
And for those who are confused by the medical jargons, you could simply skip it. It'll be lessen in the following chapters so don't worry.

FYI:
*Supraventricular Tachycardia - is an abnormality where the heart beats at an unusually fast rate. It's not usually life-threatening and may happen with/without any triggering factors (may occur due to stress, caffeine/alcohol intake and such).

*Additional Note:
Amamiya-sensei's image is something like THIS (if any of you are wondering...)
