the man with the evil eyes

Summary:

"She sniffs, and changing the subject, she says, 'What can I call you, then?'

He raises an eyebrow, 'Sorry?'

Zelda rolls her eyes, 'I’ll respect that you don’t want to tell me who you are, but the least you can do is give me a name to call you. I can’t keep saying 'Tall Gerudo Hunk' in my head every time I talk to you.'"

(Zelda and Ganon officially meet.)

Notes:

EDIT- Nov. 2020: I edited a bit of this work. I always think my work can be better, and this (and the next work) was something that I wasn't proud of. Nothing about the storyline is changed! But I fixed a couple of key components like the setting actually being near Hyrule Castle instead of... the desert lmao. The work being in chapters also bothered me, so I changed it. Sorry if you read the OG version, this is a little different and I'm sorry if that upsets or bothers you. I really believe this is a lot better if that's any consolation? ANYWAYS! Enjoy I love you all I hope this brings you HAPPINESS IN SOME WAY :-)))))))))

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“The green entity,” Zelda starts, anxious to finally have answers to all of her questions, “What is it? Who is it? What does it want with my friend, the man who was with me?”

The man raises an eyebrow. “That wasn’t one question,” he mutters. Loud enough so Zelda can hear him (even though she already could, the brat), he says, “Even after years of… let’s call it ‘research’, I haven’t gotten to the bottom of what exactly it is. The tech in there was Sheikah, good eye, but the Shiekah have little to do with the Hand itself. They thought their tech would be used for good, as far as I know.”

The tall man gathers up the sword from the ground and begins sharpening it once more, “It’s unfortunate, how their intellect and good will were used for… not-so-good purposes, but that’s life, I guess.”

The Princess-- No, The Queen , plops down on the log beside him. (She still needs to get used to the title. She never thought she would be brandishing it this early in life.) “That’s horrible,” she says softly. The Sheikah have always been benevolent and kind, especially to the Royal Family, even at their worst. Their technology used for evil, used for a horrible gain was almost unfathomable. If it was used for malicious purposes, Zelda thinks it might have been stolen. The Yiga Clan…?

The man shifts out of the corner of her eye and clears his throat, “Yeah, it’s not great.”

Zelda contemplates quietly. This man knows something.

“You got another question in that brain of yours?”

“The… entity. The Hand, you called it? You never really answered that question, did you?” she asks, moving on.

“I did,” The Gerudo man replies, voice an octave higher than usual, “I told you that I don’t know anything about it. That’s answering your question.”

Zelda narrows her eyes, “You know something, don’t you? You said you’ve conducted ‘research’, did you not?”

“Yes,” he says, “I have conducted research and my research does not accurately describe what the hell that thing actually is.”

Zelda sighs and she digs the palm of her hand into her eyes to get rid of some of the sleepiness still in her. “Okay, fine. I guess I’ll have to figure that one out.”

The man continues sharpening his blade.

A few moments of silence erupt between them until Zelda has another thought, “What about the skeleton that awoke, who was that, or what was that?”

The man shakes his head, “Not sure about that one either.”

Zelda’s frustration builds, “The Gerudo writing?”

He cocks his head a little, “I didn’t get a good look at it, but I did see some words. They don’t really make sense all together. One said “Hylia”, another one said “Doom”, and I’m pretty sure one said “Cucco”, but I could’ve read it wrong.”

There’s a moment of quiet as Zelda processes his words, and then she erupts into sunny giggles. She could feel the frustration bubbling up inside her burst and some stress leave her. When she finally calms down enough to speak, she says, “I don’t know, it could be true.”

Her giggles die down completely. Zelda really doesn’t want to, but she’s desperately curious, so she casually says, “I didn’t know the male Gerudo was born this century, yet.”

The scratching of the blade slows. The man finally looks at Zelda, “Yeah, because… you were fighting the Calamity, right? Thank you, by the way. It couldn’t have been easy, especially for an entire century.”

She waves off his sincere gratitude with grace, “I did what I had to do for Hyrule. You know what’s funny, though?” Her gaze settles off in the distance.

The man hums, “What’s that?”

She looks him in the eyes and smiles sadly, “I hardly remember it.”

She doesn’t know why she’s telling him this, to be honest. She barely told Link about her experiences within the Sanctum, but the truth is, she never wanted him to know. He already carries too much guilt, too many burdens. But this man is warm . He feels safe and secure and honest. She feels the need to open up to him, for some unknown reason. Logically, she shouldn’t trust anyone purely based on feelings, but instincts are instincts, and she’s had a long week.

She shakes her head, “I’m a scientist, you know. I’ve talked to other brilliant scientists about it, and we’ve come to the conclusion that… my mind is blocking it, so that I may live my life without…” She shakes her head again, more forcefully, as if trying to shake a missing puzzle piece into place, “...without becoming insane, I suppose. To live my life without those awful memories.”

“But you remember some of it?”

Zelda nods.

“I’m sorry,” the man replies. He doesn’t seem to pity her, and he does seem to believe her, and she is grateful.

She sniffs, and changing the subject she says, “What can I call you, then?”

He raises an eyebrow, “Sorry?”

Zelda rolls her eyes, “I’ll respect that you don’t want to tell me who you are, but the least you can do is give me a name to call you. I can’t keep saying “Tall Gerudo Hunk” in my head every time I talk to you.”

His eyes brighten and he grins, before he throws his head back to laugh. It’s booming, all-encompassing, and all Zelda can do is stare.

It’s quite beautiful.

As giggles still wrack his frame, he says, “I gotta say, I’ve never heard that one before. ‘Tall Gerudo Hunk’?”

“It’s logical! You’re tall, you’re a Gerudo, and… you might be… considered vaguely hunk-like to some people,” Zelda reasons, playfully.

The man’s smile dies as he thinks about her question. The contemplative look suggests he might be lying when he eventually answers, but she doesn’t mind. She understands the weight of a name, hers being Queen Zelda of Hyrule Kingdom. But she’s never had to be in a situation that requires a new name or a new face. She thinks she understands, nonetheless.

It takes a few minutes before he sighs and turns his entire body to face her instead of the fire. His eyes are open and unguarded. He’s… scared.

She doesn’t know what’s happening.

“I want to help you. With this task, with this person who has corrupted your friend, but in doing so, I have to be… honest and upfront towards you, yeah?”

She nods, unsure. “If you’re going to be helping me, then yes, I agree.”

“I want to tell you everything, because I haven’t been as honest as I probably should have been. But I need to know that you’ll listen. Can you promise me that you’ll listen, first?” He looks imploringly at Zelda. Desperate.

Her heart beats faster in her chest, “I promise. I will listen. What do you think I’ll do?”

He smiles sadly, “I don’t know.”

She doesn’t know what that means, so she keeps silent, waiting for him to start speaking.

The Gerudo man sighs deeply. He’s concentrating on what he’s going to say, as well as mustering up the courage to say it.

She understands. She lets him take his time once more.

Soon, he starts softly speaking. Everything around them seems quiet, as if they too were hearing his story.

“Years ago, I was the Chief of the Gerudo. It was who I was born to be, and it was what I was going to die doing. I loved every minute of it. I loved my people, I loved helping them. But unfortunately, in those times, everyone truly despised the Gerudo. The Goron, the Zora, Hylians. They thought we couldn’t be trusted, that we were dirty, that we could never succeed in building a thriving society. A group took it upon themselves to… eradicate the Gerudo race. They were constantly fighting against us, against our desire to become better. Once, they took me as a prisoner in hopes to weaken the Gerudo, but my people were strong.”

Zelda was already feeling nauseous. Her mind races to connect the dots, but she can’t. When was the last time the Gerudo had a male chief? Who was the last male Gerudo? Could this all have happened in the last one hundred years? No… this is a cultural, a societal construct, engraved into the minds of ignorant people. This couldn’t have happened in a hundred years. For hundreds of years already , all people see the Gerudo as a part of the Kingdom, general stereotypes and prejudices aside. She would have known if there was massive hatred against them. Urbosa was one of her dearest friends. She would’ve known.

She doesn’t know if she’s ready for any more of this story.

The Chief continues, “Because my people were strong and unflinchingly brave, there was no way these people could steal, hurt, or take over the Gerudo Tribe without a fight. I thought they’d let me go once they realized. But instead, they handed me over to this…  group. They were organized. Had masks. Never spoke, even when all I did was try to make them angry. To this day, I still don’t know what they were called, but they had connections to the Yiga Clan or, in fact, maybe they are the Yiga Clan.”

Zelda couldn’t help but to interrupt. Gerudo Tribe ? “Sorry, when was this? The history I’ve learned about Hyrule went back only hundreds of years, and there hasn’t been a male Gerudo Chief in all that time.”

The man just looks at his hands.

She blinks. “Oh,” she says.

“It’ll all make sense after, I swear.”

He starts again.

“They… made me do things. Lots of things I didn’t want to do. And that Hand thing is part of it, too. Over the past however many years, I’ve hurt people. And… killed people and destroyed so many lives. You see, I have this-- this sort of power. They manipulated me, and tortured me, and used me,” he says, words full of spite and malice. His hands turn white from where he’s gripping the handle of the sword.

He takes a moment to calm, and then continues with an air of desperation, “I can never, ever go back and do things differently, and I know that, but you have no idea how badly I wish I could. You have to know that, Princess Zelda, I wish I could, I’d do anything to do so, but I can’t and I’m so, so sorry .”

During his plea, Zelda stiffens terribly where she’s sitting, as if waiting for the other shoe to drop. He’s apologizing. He’s apologizing to her. What should he be apologizing for? Her breathing quickens as her mind comes up with hundreds of answers, but only one sticks out the most.

But that can’t be…

But he’s…

Her mind jumps from place to place, face to face, eyes to eyes to eyes to eyes, and sees him everywhere, all the time, waiting to kill her.

The man with the evil eyes stares at her in grief and anguish. She cannot hold her inquiry any longer. She has to know.

Zelda whispers, “Tell me your name.”

The Gerudo man takes one last deep breath, and all the while, still maintains eye contact with Zelda, like she’ll disappear or break her promise if his eyes stray somewhere else.

“My name is Ganondorf, previous Chief of the Gerudo, and for thousands of years, I have had the Power of the Triforce that was gifted to me exploited to do horrible, evil things. And I want to help you save Link.”

Zelda is slowly moving away from Ganondorf just to put some space in between them. She didn’t realize how close she was sitting until she knew who he was.

He keeps going anyways, but with his eyes directed towards the rock that was sharpening his sword instead of Zelda (thank Hylia), “I understand that it may take time for you to… decide on what to do, but I sincerely hope that you believe me.”

It seems like he’s done, but he continues for one last time, “I want to make this right. Even though that may not have been me, my decisions, or my actions, I find myself wanting to apologize and pay for what I’ve done.”

He finally ends his speech.

Not for the first time today, she ends up speechless, and not in a good way.

“I-…” she ends up replying.

He nods and stands up taking his things with him, “I’ll be gone for a few hours, then. I’ll be back with breakfast, and maybe a new set of clothes.” He gestures to the ill-fitting pieces of cloth too tight for his frame and huffs out a weak laugh. It fails to break the tension.

Ganondorf clears his throat awkwardly and gathers his things, “See you soon, Princess. And… I’m sorry.”

He leaves.

And Zelda’s still sitting there, eyes and body still faced towards where Ganon was sitting, trying to process everything.

+

She knows that she’s basically a “reincarnated” version of herself. She wouldn’t have known if she didn’t bear the Triforce of Wisdom on her hand, but she does. Hylia blessed her with this curse of knowledge. She has always been plagued with memories and nightmares of previous lives where Ganon was still destroying Hyrule in attempts to gain the other pieces of the Triforce, making him unstoppable.

But… it wasn't Ganon in the first place, if everything he told her was true. It was someone or something else.

But how can she believe him? Truly, how can she? Lifetime after lifetime of horror. Could she separate the victim and the abuser in her mind?

But if he is who he says he is…

Literally thousands of years of misery and fighting in wars that needn’t happen has been ingrained in her. The name “Ganondorf” still spreads a bitter chill down her spine and a crawling feeling in her stomach. Her instincts tell her to run, to fight, to do anything

After he told her who he really was, all she could hear as she stared into his eyes was the voice of a little girl gasping and whispering, “That’s the man with the evil eyes !”

And his eyes were evil, then. But they’re just tired now. And maybe a bit regretful. And kind. And playful. They did joke around a bit there, didn’t they?

Oh Hylia, this is going to be hard isn’t it? Thousands of years of conditioning can’t change overnight, but it already seems to be happening. His eyes aren’t full of malice like all those years before. His laugh wasn’t menacing, it wasn’t mocking. It was full of life and joy.

This man isn’t the Ganondorf that she’s known all these years. This man was warm, and she actually felt safe with him.

She can’t program her brain into not shivering when she hears his name. It will take time, and she has to accept that. So does he.

Zelda sighs, feeling unprepared to face the man again, but she no longer wishes to think about this. So, she thinks about Link.

She thinks about him for a while, taking in and reviewing all of the information from the incident. She didn’t have time in the moment to assess all she saw, but now, she can go through and process it, one thing at a time.

And as a scientist, she needs to write down her observations. Where’s her journal?

She looks around and finally notices her surroundings. The castle, pure and white, can be seen in the distance. There’s a small lake close to the campfire, and across the lake, ruins. She thinks they might be near a stable. The sun’s peeks over the horizon, creating a beautiful orange-yellow color for the sky. Birds are chirping.

She takes a moment to simply breathe.

But soon her thoughts wander, and her peace breaks. She looks around to see if the man thought to grab her things. Her bag is leaning against a log, neatly.

She grabs her research journal and starts writing.

Ganon wasn’t sure how things would turn out, to be honest.

When he woke up from his… sleep, he was confused, but… well, confused.

He hadn’t had a single personal thought in all of his years imprisoned, and the process of even thinking was slowly coming back to him.

Then he heard a scream. And then another.

And Ganon had to do something. Instinct took over, and when he hears a cry out for help, he answers it. So he did.

Ganon relearning how to swing his right arm, lead to the boy flung to the other side of the room, lead to Ganon almost using his Power, lead to the boy fleeing, lead to Ganon grabbing the girl and getting the fuck out of there.

Lead to… well, wherever the fuck they are now.

+

As Ganon looks back, Link-- or Corrupted Link, he should specify, never was defeated . He fled as soon as the Triforce on Ganon’s hand brightened.

What a wuss.

Ganon sighs as he looks at the still unconscious Princess of Hyrule. The clothes he borrowed from a Hylian are way too small, almost indecent, but it’s better than nothing. He doesn’t want the girl to wake up and the first thing she sees is Ganon’s--

Well. Anyways.

It was hard trying to blend in and not be noticed as a Gerudo. He had to borrow Princess Zelda’s cloak, and it was also ridiculously small (what is with it with these Hylians…), but it would have to do. Thankfully, it was nighttime, so the dark would assist him.

A Gerudo woman drinking outside was beautiful, but so vastly different from what he remembers all those years ago.

(But so familiar at the same time…)

That’s to be expected though, he realizes. Nothing’s going to be the same here on out, and he has to familiarize himself on all of the changes. Not a lot has changed technology-wise (in daily life), for which he’s grateful for, but a lot has changed culturally.

The thing he’s most excited about are the weaponry. They’re so different from when Ganon was chief, he’s excited to try them out. Sure, he could use his Power of the Triforce, but what fun would that be? Fighting in hand-to-hand combat is always more honorable than using something the other opponent doesn’t have.

As he walks from the stable, armed with what he came there for, a stern voice from behind him calls out to him, “Hey, you!”

He only turns around halfway, making sure most of his face is covered. He’s surprised to see the woman drinking talking to him. He gives her a gruff, “What?”

More of a statement than a question.

She smirks and huffs out a quick laugh, “Defensive, are we?”

“What?” He repeats, tone blank.

She narrows her eyes and stands up, walking up to him until she’s a few feet away. “You stole that shield and sword.”

He clenches his jaw. Fuck. “Yes.”

“Steal from the wrong person, in front of the wrong Gerudo, you’ll get your ass kicked,” she says, amused. And slightly drunk.

He’s silent for a few seconds before replying with a simple, “I know.”

“Good thing the guy was a piece of shit,” she slurs, a wide grin stretches across her face.

He remains silent. Hopefully, she’ll lose interest soon. But this is Ganon, the man with the worst luck in the history of the world, so that obviously doesn’t happen.

She cocks her head. Slowly she takes a few more steps towards him, “You know… I’ve never met a Hylian taller than me…”

His eyes widen and he walks away swiftly, but measured. He never should have interacted with her in the first place. What did his mother always say? Never lie to Gerudo women. You will never get away with it.

“Sav’orq!” she calls out, cheerfully, turning away to enjoy her drinks once more.

“Sav’orr,” he replies instinctively. He stops dead in his tracks, and so does his heart. Curse the manners that were ingrained into his psyche the day he could talk.

After his brief paralysis, he briskly walks away once more. The woman doesn’t call back to him. There’s no reason to believe that she heard him. He was turned away, and his voice was low. He was alright.

Hylia, never talk to Gerudo women if you’re hiding something.

Of course it’s not “morally correct” to stereotype, but he knows what Gerudo women are capable of. He grew up with six sisters of his own and a mother, and quite literally every person in his life were women. He’s lucky to have such influential people in his life, but boy, did they know exactly what he was hiding, when he was hiding it.

Seeing that woman, hearing her accent, and feeling that warm “Sav’orq” wash over him makes him long for his family. Every minute, the weight of the realization that he’ll never see them again gets heavier and heavier. The trek back to the girl gets harder as the panic slowly and silently wracks through his body.

He’ll get through it.

He has to.

Oh, God, they probably thought he was the one torturing and destroying Hyrule all of those years. They probably thought he abandoned them. They thought he was so power hungry and filled with greed that he didn’t need his family anymore-- Oh God… Oh, Hylia--

The thought brings him to his knees. His shoulders shake as this unwanted awareness makes a home in his mind. Eyes wide and tearful, he thinks.

His mother probably thought he was a monster. His sisters, his teachers, his soldiers...

He doesn’t get back up for a while.

+

He finally gets back to the campsite. The moon is setting and soon it’ll be morning.

He’ll have to get breakfast.

But first, wait for the Princess to wake up.

He grabs his new sword and a rock, and gets to sharpening his blade.

+

After he reveals himself to the Princess, he’s not sure how he feels.

He left both to give them time to think about things and for him to get breakfast for them, because apparently, he’s nothing if not a good host, even if the Princess tries to kill him when he gets back. He won’t stop her, if that’s her wish.

He sells a couple of dull weapons from the Bokoblins he defeated for a couple of rupees, and buys them a few fruits from the scrawny fellow with the bag as twice as big as him. He also splurges for a Hearty Durian they can split.

No one notices him, even with the sun barely up. The woman from the night before no longer takes residence on the outside table. He tries to shake off the feeling of being watched.

When he gets back, he sees the Princess wide awake and furiously writing in her notebook.

Oh Hylia, give him strength for this conversation.

+++

Ganon was bracing himself the second his eyes set on the camp. He saw the Princess-- Queen, sorry, sitting there bending over her research journal, a writing utensil in her hand, furiously writing away. She looks determined. A little fierce.

There’s no use in delaying the inevitable, and his Vaba taught him better than to run away from his problems.

So, he saunters in there with his head held high, and his loud voice ringing out, “Your Majesty! Your humble servant has brought you only the finest of breakfasts, just for you.”

She jumps at his boisterous greeting, and only stares at him as he walks to the open fire. He regrets his brash entrance, but it was needed. If he approached her quietly, she might have been more afraid. He turns his back to her, allowing her to do anything to him without his defense if she felt the need. He doesn’t think she will, but she has taken down the embodiment of the Triforce of Power multiple times before, so… he’s a big enough man to admit that he’s a bit terrified of the small woman.

Zelda understands the greeting and Ganon’s body language as soon as she sees it. He and Link are similar in that way: using their actions to speak louder than their words.

They’d be good friends, she thinks.

As he rambles on about how Hearty Durian is a delicacy from where he’s from, she stands up and walks towards him. She makes sure that he can see her from her peripheral vision, and sits down by the fire.

She’s absolutely terrified, but she has to do this.

Ganon sees her sit by the fire in his peripheral vision as he’s chopping up Hearty Durian and rambles on about the fruit. His mother would’ve slapped him upside the head if she ever saw him treat a Vai like this, but he has no control over his mouth at the moment.

He’s absolutely terrified, but he has to do this.

He goes silent at the same time as his hands do, and with nothing for him left to say, he starts, “Princess, I-”

But at the same time, the Queen starts, as well, “You see--”

They stop.

Ganon is the first one to speak this time, “Please, Your Majesty.”

Zelda nods her head in thanks, and all she says is, “I understand.”

The man looks at her in disbelief, “You… you what?”

A smile creeps on her face. “I understand,” is patiently repeated.

It feels as if a weight is taken off of his shoulders, one that’s been there for seemingly centuries, and he can finally breathe.

“You… understand?” he breathes.

Zelda nods firmly, once. “I understand your predicament. You are not the evil that tormented me for centuries.”

Ganon huffs out a relieved laugh, “Oh my. Oh, wow. I didn’t-- I didn’t expect you to…” He shakes his head, something not entirely clicking with him. “But why? Why… are you so understanding? I… don’t really know if I would be…”

Zelda has to think for a moment. How does she explain something like this?

After a few moments, she slowly begins, still trying to come up with the right words as she goes. “Do… you ever remember a person, or rather, a little girl calling you ‘The man with the evil eyes?’”

Caught off guard, Ganon replies with a baffled, “I-I don’t remember much about my previous lives, if that’s what you’re talking about… I think it’s a lot like how you don’t remember much about fighting… the Calamity in the Castle. Your mind is saving you from reliving the most painful memories. I have a lot, I guess.”

She nods, assuming so, but he gets a faraway look as soon as she gets ready to start speaking again.

“Actually… that is very familiar… ‘The man with the evil eyes…’ I hear… a little girl saying it?” He looks up, questioning.

Zelda nods, “Well, that little girl was me. Centuries ago, your possessor fought us when we were children, just seven or eight years old. I called you ‘the man with the evil eyes’, because your eyes, they were so cold… but filled with so much emotion.

Ganon swallows. He doesn’t like hearing what he did, or what the thing who wore his person did as him. It makes him feel itchy, like there’s something under his skin that he needs to cut out as soon as possible.

“But the emotion was nothing but anger and hate . I’ve never seen anything like it. Right before the Calamity, I had nightmare after nightmare about those eyes for weeks at a time… I believe now that perhaps the little girl that I was, was trying to warn me, or maybe the Goddess herself trying to send a message. Whatever it may have been, I wish I had listened to it sooner.”

The Queen says the last part with bitterness. She breathes in deeply and continues.

“When I saw you, a voice in my head hissed at me: ‘It’s the Man with the Evil Eyes! Get away from him! He’ll hurt you!’ I paid no attention to it, I had far too many questions, but when you revealed yourself, I began to wonder: Why did I ignore it? I’m usually confident in trusting my instincts, and my instincts were apparently screaming at me to leave, to run, to never look back, but… I didn’t.

And I think I know why.”

Ganon’s heart drops. He has nothing to hide, he knows he has nothing to hide. So, why does it feel like she’s about to uncover a deep dark secret about him?

Zelda smiles, “Those weren’t my instincts. That was the memory of a traumatized little girl, trying her best to protect me. My true instincts told me you weren’t a bad man. Your eyes aren’t evil, they’re… human. They aren’t angry or hateful, they’re sad, and kind, and maybe a little tired,” she half-laughs. “And warm. But not evil. I ignored the voice because I could see what was in front of me was far from evil.”

The almost 9’2 man with a tough physique, menacing tattoos, and scars all over his body, tears up at Queen Zelda’s testimony. He sniffs pitifully, trying to maintain some of his dignity. “You have no idea how much that means to me, Your Majesty,” his voice breaks in the middle of his sentence. He refuses to break eye contact, though.

Zelda, now slightly on edge from the overwhelming emotions coming from the man, says, “Yes, well, it’s what I believe.” With no reply from the other man, she deems this a time to say, “I’m not comfortable with you just yet, you must understand. I know it isn’t you who has tormented me and my dearest friend all these years, but you still wear the same face, speak with the same voice, and wield the same power. Please, don’t expect me to be a perfect ally.”

Ganon nods hastily and wipes his tears, “Yes, yes, of course, I totally understand. If it’ll make you feel better, you can call me Gee, or anything else you’d like. My sisters used to call me Noni. Dorrah used to call me ‘Dorf-Dorf’, but only because I hated it growing up. But I won’t mind if you call me that.”

Zelda giggles at the last nickname, “Thank you for understanding.”

Ganon grins. The joy and relief he feels is astronomical. Gaze straying away from Zelda, he nods to her journal, “What are you writing in there? If you don’t mind me asking.”

Zelda sighs, now crestfallen, “I’m gathering as much information as I can remember about that cave about that thing that possessed Link… and… you I suppose…” Her eyes brighten and she looks up, “Do you know anything about it?!”

“Uh, no, not a lot. But I have a few guesses why they took Link and let me go.”

Delighted, Zelda exclaims, “Oh, how wonderful! I can barely remember a thing, let alone theorize sufficiently why he was chosen. You’ll be a big help!” She grabs her journal as well as her pencil and flips through the pages.

Ganon can’t help but to appreciate all of the details already written, “Woah…”

The Queen of Hyrule, who finally found her place in her journal, murmurs, “What?”

“That’s just a lot of… smart stuff,” the Gerudo trails off.

Zelda smiles proudly, “Well, I’m kind of a genius, you know.”

“I wholeheartedly believe that, Queen Zelda.” Wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom, indeed.

She waves her hand and bashfully looks away, “Please, we’ve known each other for millenium, call me Zelda.”
