1. Music.
Sometimes, it’s hard for Jungkook to point out where music ends and Namjoon begins or vice versa, because his love for one has been growing simultaneously as his love for the other, both so strongly intertwined that he can’t think of music without Namjoon or Namjoon without music.
Talks about future plans and solo careers are nothing but frightening for him, he’s not ready yet, and how could he be? If his happiness in life started with Namjoon, how could it possibly not end with him?
2. Getaways.
Getting to see so many places around the world in such a short time should be a blessing for Namjoon, but instead it’s like a curse, running from one to the other when his mind is so exhausted that he only gets to hold on to very specific memories, not having enough free time to truly absorb the beauty around him. That’s why, when they finally get a weekend off, instead of travelling to a remote location, he just brings Jungkook along with him to pay a short visit to his family.
Picking apples with his father, being teased by his mother for whatever reason just to embarrass him in front of his boyfriend, eating cake that was prepared by the aforementioned boyfriend and sister while laughing and singing IU songs, confirming once again that Jungkook can do anything, even getting Monie to voluntarily go to Namjoon, and being able to hold Jungkook’s hand during a late-night stroll around the block, those were all moments he could actually savor.
3. First meetings.
Jungkook had never intended it to go that way, and he was teased because of it during a certain period of his life, so much that during the first few months as a trainee he tried to avoid looking at Namjoon’s legs at all, which was really difficult to do because he always wore shorts to dance practice and a lot of attention was brought to his legs due to his lack of coordination back then.
Nowadays, as he looks back, he doesn’t regret his choice of words. Sure, it wasn’t the most eloquent thing he could have come up with, but he was starstruck, and frankly, after all these years, as he sees Namjoon walking out of the room with fresh hickies all over his thighs, he thinks if he went back in time he’d probably end up saying the exact same thing.
4. Fake dating.
One thing Namjoon is grateful for is that the company is not outright opposed to members dating each other, but he understands that having not one but two couples in the same group is a little stressful for everyone, which is why they’ve had to agree to all sorts of things in a conjoint effort to conceal their relationships and keep everyone away from bad press. As the leader, Namjoon has taken this very seriously, making sure to never give Jungkook a preferential treatment in public, or to chalk it up to him being the spoiled maknae in case he accidentally does. Jungkook and the other couple have a different way to conceal things, though, one that not only avoids suspicion but that provides enjoyment for the fandom as well as themselves.
It’s a game they like to call “Who is Jungkook’s boyfriend today?” Like in a treasure hunt, they leave ‘clues’ for fans to pick up (sometimes he’ll take a selca with Jimin where they’re wearing matching rings, or he’ll write an ambiguous sentence a few minutes after Taehyung posts something). This decoy love triangle allows Jimin and Taehyung to be as openly affectionate as they want without suspicions (in the public’s mind, they are rivals after all) and Namjoon really doesn’t mind the fake dating ruse as long as it guarantees them the privacy to keep being Jungkook’s real boyfriend.
5. Anniversaries.
Jungkook didn’t forget it. Really, he’s bad at remembering exact dates but he didn’t forget their anniversary, it’s just that even a year later he’s still bad at telling Namjoon how he makes him feel, so he just gave him a quick kiss and a mumbled ‘happy anniversary’ in the morning before being absorbed by the day’s hectic schedule. Namjoon smiled and said it right back, so that means he didn’t forget it either but he wasn’t feeling particularly eloquent before sunrise. Jungkook had made a gift, a little scrapbook with pictures and things that were meaningful for both of them, but he planned to give it to him at the end of the day, preferably after everyone else went to sleep.
Mono is still trending since yesterday because of course, it was its anniversary, too, so Namjoon is still receiving congratulations for it, and no one else appears to remember the other event they’re supposed to be celebrating, for Jungkook doesn’t get congratulations from anyone. That is, until they’re all finally having dinner and Jimin suddenly gasps audibly before covering his mouth, and then proceeds to whisper something in Taehyung’s ear, who also gasps and passes on the message to Hoseok, who stands up and yells “Happy anniversary!!!” and suddenly Jungkook is squished against Namjoon in the middle of an impromptu group hug, and Yoongi, of all people, starts chanting for them to kiss.
Everyone else joins in on the chants, loudly, until Namjoon throws his hands up in defeat before using them to softly cup Jungkook’s face. They can’t kiss like this, because Jungkook is laughing so much he’s mostly teeth and Namjoon is trembling because they’re not the PDA type, so they just press their foreheads together until they manage to calm down enough for a little peck, which is somehow good enough for hollering Yoongi.
“I promise to give you a proper one after you listen to your gift.” Namjoon whispers.
“Okay.” Jungkook laughs again. “Wait, listen?”
6. Confessions.
One of the things about being with Jungkook that is completely different from Namjoon’s past relationships is that instead of running out of things to say or notice, the passing of time only seems to give him more things to discover and love about him, and more confidence to admit to things he already loved before. The warm, fuzzy feeling he gets when Jungkook smiles shyly at his compliments will never get old, so he does it again and again, spontaneously confessing his long-lasting, ever-growing love without any reason.
He’s glad for not holding back on anything he’s wanted to say during the first years of their relationship, because now that they’ll be apart for around 2 years, he’s going to have to save his everyday confessions deep in his heart until they meet again.
7. Learning a hobby together.
Considering how often Jungkook tends to pick up and then abandon hobbies and habits, he never expected golfing, of all things, to be one that he would stick to for so long. It started after Namjoon returned from his military service, when he was almost desperately looking for excuses to spend time with him, so he tried to pick up his hobbies, only to realize that he didn’t really have enough patience or clarity of mind to enjoy caring for bonsai or reading in silence for hours, regardless of the fact that he loved how happy and peaceful Namjoon looked when he did.
Then, he tried getting Namjoon into his hobbies, but even though he did enjoy exercising and playing video games, those activities left him exhausted instead of energized like they did for Jungkook, so it wasn’t a very practical way to spend time together. Namjoon told him they would always have music, but music is not a hobby for either of them, it’s what their hearts are made of; when he asked why he was so obsessed with sharing a hobby, Jungkook didn’t have a clear answer, but he somehow felt as if the foundation of their relationship depended on it. They had been apart for way too long and he wanted to bond over something besides music, wanted something that linked them together in a special way, something that was only theirs, as corny as that was.
So, they tried to learn new things together, from fishing to pottery to Mahjong. Jungkook was great at everything but he got bored fast, while Namjoon went through the motions but he wasn’t really happy doing them, until they stumbled upon an indoors golf simulator by accident, and… for the second time in his life, Jungkook had an “Ah, this is it!” moment.
Golfing is not the kind of thing that can be done perfectly in one try, so there are constant, small corrections needed to achieve excellence, which is the perfect formula to make Jungkook stick to something; and it’s a physical activity that requires clearing the mind and being in complete awareness of the whole body, which works as a perfect detox for Namjoon. It was made even better once they started going to actual fields so Namjoon could absorb all of the green-ness and they could have little picnics and little stolen kisses when no one was around, and now that they’ve been practicing for a few months, Namjoon finally admits that it’s a good thing to have something that’s only theirs.
Jungkook’s need to spend alone time with Namjoon is satisfied for now, but he knows it’s only a matter of time before he’ll want to jump to something else – most likely something greater and preferably even more binding.
And something uniquely theirs.
