Work Text:

1 | Li Xiu Ying

“Hey, did you hear? Princess Li Xiu Ying from the Ying Sect is coming here tomorrow,” Nie HuaiSang announced as he walked up to Wei WuXian with Jiang Cheng close behind.

“Eh? Really? Why?” Wei WuXian questioned, facing his two friends.

Nie HuaiSang shrugged and lifted his opened fan in front of his face. “Not sure, something about finding a husband.”

“Husband, hey?” Wei WuXian smirked and laughed when Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and smacked him in the arm.

“Don’t even think about it.”

Wei WuXian lifted his hands in defense and laughed. He knew that even if he asked the Princess would never marry someone like him. She’d probably go for someone as noble as Lan WangJi.

The thought made him chuckle, no way Lan WangJi would agree to marriage!

“Hey look! It’s Hanguang-Jun!” Nie HuaiSang said, ripping Wei WuXian out of his thoughts.

A mischievous grin formed on Wei WuXian’s face as he turned and saw the elegant Lan WangJi walking over the bridge. His posture was straight and perfect and he moved elegantly like he was floating.

Wei WuXian took a step to go run over to the boy when he was pulled back by the collar of his robes.

“Leave him alone already,” Jiang Cheng said.

Wei WuXian pouted and turned to his friend and brother. “But Jiang Cheng –“

“But nothing, can’t you see that he hates you! Just leave him alone!”

The words sent a deep pierce in his heart but he shrugged it off with a laugh and some remark. Deep down he always had a feeling that the cold boy disliked him but he never wanted to believe it. Maybe it’s because he teases to much but he can’t help it, he just loves to see the ever-stoic Hanguang-Jun all riled up.

“Anyway, I think the Princess might be asking Lan XiChen to marry her,” Nie HuaiSang said.

Jiang Cheng stiffened lightly and Wei WuXian looked at him from the corner of his eye. Knowing everything about the secret relationship his brother and the Sect Leader have.

“What makes you say that?” Jiang Cheng asked stiffly, clenching his hands into fists.

Oblivious to his behaviour, Nie HuaiSang continued, “Well think about it, he’s the Sect Leader and she’s a Princess, they’re destined to be together!”

Wei WuXian laughed and waved his hands, sending Jiang Cheng a look. “Lets not be rash, she’s probably not going to ask him.”

Nie HuaiSang hummed and shrugged. Wei WuXian looked over at his brother to see him frowning, deep in thought about something. Wei WuXian sighed, something tells him that Lan XiChen and Jiang Cheng will be having a very long, emotional talk tonight.

“You can’t marry her!” Jiang Cheng announced as he walked into Lan XiChen’s room that night.

Lan XiChen jumped from where he was getting ready for bed, in mid taking his forehead ribbon off, he looked over at his partner with wide eyes.

“Jiang Cheng? What – What are you talking about? Marry who?”

“Princess Li Xiu Ying!”

Lan XiChen frowned in confusion and placed his forehead ribbon down and walked over to his troubled partner and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Who said I was going to marry Princes Li Xiu Ying?”

Jiang Cheng crossed his arms, “Nie HuaiSang! He said that you might be the one she will ask to marry, said you two are destined to be together.”

Lan XiChen’s lips quirked up into smile as he walked closer to his boyfriend. “And who says I’m going to say yes if she does, hm? Jiang Cheng, I love you and if I’m going to marry anyone, it’ll be you.”

Jiang Cheng flushed red at the confession and his arms slowly uncrossed and he slumped against his boyfriend. “Wouldn’t you want to marry a Princess instead?”

Lan XiChen smiled and wrapped his arms around his partner. “I’d rather marry my Prince Jiang WanYin,” He whispered into his ear.

Jiang Cheng flushed more and snuggled deeper into his partner’s chest. Lan XiChen chuckled and placed a kiss on top of his head.

“Silly boy.”

Today was the day the Princess was to arrive at the Cloud Recesses. Wei WuXian was walking out of his room, trying up his long hair into ponytail when he saw Lan WangJi walking past.

He grinned and jumped off the stairs and made he way to Lan WangJi, shouting, “Lan Zhan!”

Lan WangJi turned to face the boy, his face cold and annoyed. Wei WuXian ginned at the boy.

“Lan Zhan, how are you?”

“Mm, fine,” Lan WangJi answered.

Wei WuXian grinned more and crossed his hands behind his back, walking beside the quiet male.

“Did you know that the Princess of the Ying Sect is coming today? Oh what am I saying, of course you do,” Wei WuXian laughed.

Lan WangJi said nothing and continued to walk with Wei WuXian. The mischievous boy sighed and looked up at the misty sky with a small smile on his face. Being in Lan WangJi’s presence always calmed him down and made him feel relaxed.

The two walked towards where a group of people had gathered, awaiting for the Princess’s arrival. Wei WuXian followed Lan WangJi to the front where Lan XiChen and Jiang Cheng stood.

The Lan brother’s spoke as Wei WuXian walked over to his friend.

“Did you talk to him?”

Jiang Cheng nodded, a blush threatening to cover his cheeks. “He said he wouldn’t marry her if she asked.”

Wei WuXian grinned and bumped his shoulder with Jiang Cheng’s, “I knew it.”

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and looked towards the entrance grates. Everyone paused their talking as they begun to open. The Princess with a few guards and disciples surrounding her walked into the Cloud Recesses.

People whispered as they watched her, some saying how beautiful and elegant she looked and they were right. She truly was beautiful, with long black hair braided with flowers stuck in, she held a pink fan in front of her mouth and nose and her robes were also pink with flowers embroidered at the bottom. She was a crystal jewel on her forehead that moved slightly when she walked.

Lan XiChen and Lan QiRen walked up to her to greet her. A few seniors also joined. Wei WuXian crossed his arms and stuck his hip out as he looked at the greeting. The Princess bowed respectfully and kept her fan in front of her face, but from the side you could see her red stained lips pulled into a smile.

She was introduced to a few people and disciples before they guided her to where Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng were standing. Jiang Cheng nudged his brother and told him to stand properly.

Wei WuXian smiled and fixed his posture and crossed his hands behind his back like Jiang Cheng and Lan WangJi.

“This is Young Master Jiang Cheng,” Lan XiChen greeted and the two bowed.

“Young Master Wei WuXian,” Wei WuXian smiled and gave a little bow.

When she was guided to Lan WangJi, Wei WuXian watched with amusement as her eyes widened slightly like she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The great Lan WangJi seemed to have that effect on people.

“This is my brother, Lan WangJi,” Lan XiChen said and Lan WangJi and the Princess bowed.

Li Xiu Ying was still staring at Hanguang-Jun with wide shocked eyes. Her cheeks had begun turning pink when her green eyes met Lan WangJi’s golden ones. Wei WuXian fought back a laugh.

This should be fun.

Wei WuXian was honestly expecting Lan WangJi to act coldly towards her or say for her to stop with her flirting. Yes the young Princess had begun sticking to Lan WangJi’s side and flirting with the cold male and Wei WuXian poked fun at every chance he could.

( “Lan Zhan! Looks like the Princess has become infatuated with you! Hahahaha!” )

But when Lan WangJi did nothing to stop it did Wei WuXian stop teasing and laughing. Instead he glared at the Princess from the sides as she stepped closer to him and battered her eyelashes at him.

Lan WangJi listened to what she was saying and talked back! Wei WuXian can hardly get a sentence out of him but now that some Princess has come along he suddenly has lots to say?!

Wei WuXian pouted and crossed his arms as he sulked quietly.

“I think she might actually ask Hanguang-Jun to marry her.”

Wei WuXian jumped at the sound of Nie HuaiSang’s voice and whipped his head around to face him.

“Nie HuaiSang, don’t scare me like that! And what are you talking about?”

Nie HuaiSang gave an apologetic smile and shrugged. “Well, I thought maybe she would ask Sect Leader XiChen for her hand in marriage but with how she keeps hanging around Hanguang-Jun it seems that he might be the one she will ask.”

That did not sit well with Wei WuXian and his mind flashed to something that he had said a while ago.

( “Lan Zhan is mine.” )

Wei WuXian shook his head as he looked back at Li Xiu Ying and Lan WangJi. His left eye twitched when she grabbed his arm and he made no movement to shrug her off.

( Lan Zhan is mine. )

“How can you be positive? She may like him but that doesn’t mean she’ll ask to marry him.”

Nie HuaiSang opened his fan with the flick of his wrist and held it against his mouth and nose. “Well she did come here with the intention to marry.”

Something stirred inside of Wei WuXian as he looked back at the two.

( “You’re mine.” )

2 | I Don’t Want To Third Wheel

Wei WuXian pouted as he rested his chin on his crossed arms, sprawled against the table. Its the next day and he hardly got to hang out with Lan WangJi yesterday because the Princess had been hogging him. He longed for Lan WangJi to suddenly come in and tell him to sit properly.

But that never happened. Instead, Jiang Cheng had sat next to him.

“What’s wrong?”

Wei WuXian gave a wide, forced smile that he knew his brother could see right through. “Nothing Jiang, I’m perfectly fine!”

Jiang Cheng rose an eyebrow. “Wei Ying.”

Wei WuXian sighed more and looked out the window, his blood boiling when he saw that Lan WangJi and Li Xiu Ying were together again.

( You’re mine. )

“I haven’t been able to hang out with Lan Zhan ever since she came.”

Jiang Cheng’s eyebrows rose at Wei WuXian’s bitter tone and watched his brother glare at Lan WangJi and the Princess.

“You’re jealous,” He stated.

Wei WuXian’s eyes went wide and he sat up and whipped around to face his brother. He laughed loudly and placed a hand on his chest. “Me? Jealous? No.”

“Mhm, you are.”

Wei WuXian huffed and slumped against the table again. “Okay, maybe.”

Jiang Cheng sighed and rolled his eyes. “Why don’t you just go and hang out with him then? Don’t worry about whether Li Xiu Ying is there or not.”

“I don’t want to third wheel,” Wei WuXian grumbled.

Jiang Cheng gave out a HA! “You’re Wei WuXian, you’re always the center of attention, if anyone will be third wheeling it’ll be Princess Li Xiu Ying.”

Wei WuXian pursed his lips and looked back at the two, still talking. He sighed and sat up, a smile forming on his face.

“You’re right! I’ll go and hang out with him!”

“Just don’t annoy him.”

Wei WuXian grinned, “I won’t.”

3 | Spiciness

Wei WuXian stood up from his seat and brushed off imaginary dust off his robes. Jiang Cheng watched him confidently walk over towards Lan WangJi and the Princess. Lan XiChen took a seat next to him.

“Did you talk to him?” Lan XiChen asked.

Jiang Cheng tore his eyes away from his brother to look at his boyfriend. “Yep, he’s an idiot.”

Lan XiChen chuckled and looked at the Young Master walking proudly and smiled. “This is good for him, for both of them.”

Jiang Cheng was confused on to what he was saying but just shrugged it off and turned his entire attention on Lan XiChen.

“I’m just glad it’s not you she’s all over.”

Lan XiChen laughed brightly and it made Jiang Cheng’s heart thump loudly against his chest. Lan XiChen reached for the angry boy’s hand secretly under the table and interlocked their fingers.

Jiang Cheng bit back a smile as his cheeks flushed red and his held Lan XiChen’s hand back.

“Lan Zhan!” Wei WuXian called as he made his way over to the boy.

Li Xiu Ying stopped what she was saying and frowned at being interrupted and having Lan WangJi’s attention directed away from her. The jewels on her forehead clanked together as she whipped her head towards Wei WuXian.

“Lan Zhan! Do you want to go somewhere with me?” He asked confidently but his heart was racing inside his chest.

Lan WangJi opened his mouth to respond when Li Xiu Ying interrupted and stood between him and Wei WuXian. Her hair was tied up into a black bun with two braids on either side of her head. She still wore her Sect’s pink robes with her fan in her right hand.

“He can’t, Lan WangJi was going to take me somewhere,” She said and turned to smile up at Lan WangJi.

Wei WuXian’s left eye twitched.

( Lan Zhan is mine. )

He forced a smile and looked at Lan WangJi and said, “Oh wow, I didn’t know you had plans to go somewhere with Princess Li Xiu Ying. I might as well join you, haha. Where are you going?”

Lan WangJi opened his mouth to reply again when Li Xiu Ying interrupted him again and began explaining to Wei WuXian how he was taking her to this eat in place that Wei WuXian was all to familiar with and said that he probably didn’t want to go.

Wei WuXian grinned. “I love that place, I’d love to join you!”

“But –“

“You can come,” Lan WangJi said for the first time since Wei WuXian walked over. He interrupted Li Xiu Ying’s protest and looked at Wei WuXian.

“Huh? But Hanguang-Jun –“

“Wei Ying can come,” Lan WangJi said not taking his eyes off of Wei WuXian.

( You’re mine. )

Wei WuXian grinned and was pleased to see the annoyed expression on the Princess’s face. He had won this round.

Jiang Cheng was right, Wei WuXian wasn’t the one who was going to third wheel. He sat next to Lan WangJi, he had raced to the seat before the Princess could get it and ignored Lan WangJi weird look, and had rambled on and on about something.

The Princess had been giving him glares the entire time. Lan WangJi listened carefully to what he was saying and gave his own little responses when he wasn’t in the middle of eating.

Wei WuXian had also subconsciously gotten closer to Lan WangJi and the smell of sandalwood was even stronger. He thought about moving away to give Lan WangJi some space but when he saw how Li Xiu Ying and glaring even more at him and Lan WangJi not once speaking up about it, he decided against it.

“How are the rabbits?” Wei WuXian asked.

Lan WangJi placed his chopsticks in his empty bowl and turned to him. Wei WuXian was still eating as he’s done a lo more talking than eating. He’s already been scolded twice by the boy for talking with his mouth full.

“They are fine.”

Wei WuXian smiled and used his chopsticks to stir his bowl of extra spicy soup and noodles. “That’s good, I should visit them some time.”

Lan WangJi nodded. “Mm, you should.”

The two stared into each others eyes for a while before it was broken by someone clearing their. The two boys turned their attention to the Princess.

Li Xiu Ying smiled and said, “You have rabbits? That’s so cute! Can I see them too?”

Wei WuXian stopped stirring and tightened his hold on his chopsticks. He gritted his teeth together when she looked at him smugly from the corner of her eye and continued smiling bright at Lan WangJi.

“They don’t like females!” Wei WuXian blurted out before Lan WangJi could say anything. Lan WangJi rose an eyebrow at his poor excuse and Wei WuXian changed the topic by pushing his bowl closer to Lan WangJi and picking up some soup with his spoon.

“Lan Zhan, have you tried these before? They are so good! You have to try them, here!” He offered the spoon towards Lan WangJi, his hand underneath it.

Li Xiu Ying scoffed under breath and said, “That is way too spicy! He can’t eat that! Right, Hanguang-Jun?”

Lan WangJi looked between the two before slowly opening his mouth and taking the soup into his mouth. Wei WuXian grinned at his watched Lan WangJi’s stoic face as he brought the spoon closer to him.

“Well?”

Lan WangJi’s mouth was on fire but, “It’s good.”

Wei WuXian grinned. Li Xiu Ying glared and crossed her arms across her chest.

Another point to Wei WuXian.

4 | You’re mine

“Jiang WanYin, please?” Lan XiChen outed at his boyfriend as he held the sleeve of his purple robes.

Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes and adverted his eyes away from Lan XiChen, knowing he’d crave if he saw his puppy dog eyes.

“No XiChen, if someone sees me leaving your room tomorrow morning it’s going to start some shit!”

“I don’t care, please! I want to cuddle with you,” Lan XiChen whined.

Jiang Cheng sighed and craved. He walked back into Lan XiChen’s room. Got undressed so he was only in his undergarments and climbed into bed with his satisfied boyfriend. Lan XiChen smiled brightly as he snuggled himself closer to the angry boy.

Jiang Cheng huffed but he could admit that he was somewhat happy that he craved and got to cuddle his boyfriend.

Nie HuaiSang was breaking a rule as he broke out into a full on sprint towards Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng. He was panting harshly when he approached them and rested his hands on his knees, a fan in one hand.

“Nie HuaiSang? What’s wrong?” Wei WuXian asked as he stared at his friend.

Nie HuaiSang took a deep breath and stood up tall. “Hanguang-Jun and Li Xiu Ying...”

Wei WuXian’s heart picked up in pace. “What? What about them?! Tell me!” He demanded.

“Li Xiu Ying just said she’s getting married to Hanguang-Jun,” He panted out.

Wei WuXian paled and his eyes went wide as he stared at his friend. Jiang Cheng placed a hand on his shoulder and was saying something that Wei WuXian couldn’t make out. His ears started to ring and his eyes filled with tears. He could feel Jiang Cheng shaking him.

“Ing, Wei Ying – Hey! Wei Ying!”

Wei WuXian blinked and he stared at his brother as tears fell down his face. Jiang Cheng stared at him and watched the tears flow down.

“Excuse me,” Wei WuXian muttered out and ran away from the two, ignoring Jiang Cheng’s shouts.

His heart clenched painfully as he ran and ran.

( “You’re mine.” “Lan Zhan is mine.” is what he uttered to the boy one drunken night. )

“Lan XiChen!” Jiang Cheng shouted as he walked quickly over to the boy in white.

Lan XiChen met him halfway. “He hasn’t responded to the marriage proposal and just locked himself in his room. He won’t come out or talk to anyone.”

“Wei WuXian just ran off somewhere and I don’t know where is his!”

Lan XiChen took Jiang Cheng’s hands into his and said comfortingly, “Don’t worry, I send some people to go look for hi –“

He was interrupted by a figure dressed in black and red robes rushing past him and up the stairs towards the Jingshi. Wei WuXian banged against the door.

“Lan Zhan! Open up, I need to talk to you!” He yelled.

There was no answer and Wei WuXian groaned and shouted, “Fine! I do it my way!”

He slid the door open and walked in slamming them shut behind him. Lan XiChen and Jiang Cheng both shared a look, still holding hands.

“I guess we should leave them,” Lan XiChen said and Jiang Cheng nodded.

“That’s probably wise.”

Wei WuXian was glaring at the boy in white as he sat at his desk. Lan WangJi stood up and looked at him calmly. Wei WuXian stormed towards him and grabbed the front of his robes.

“Didn’t I tell you that you were mine?!” Lan WangJi eyes widened in shock and confusion before the memories returned…

“Ah! Lan Zhan! What a pleasant surprise to see you here,” Wei WuXian laughed nervously as he stared down at the stoic boy.

Great, he was defiantly going to get punished again for trying to sneak wine into the Cloud Recesses again. Why does Lan WangJi always catch him?!

However, Lan WangJi did not say anything and just looked at the wine and then up at Wei WuXian before turning around and walking off. Wei WuXian watched in shock and was certain the male in white was going to tell someone.

But Lan WangJi just said over his shoulder, “You should go back to your room before my Uncle catches you.”

Wei WuXian blinked in shocked. He was so sure he was going to get scolded for sneaking wine into the Cloud Recesses and then getting a punishment.

He found himself calling out to the boy, “H-Hey, Lan Zhan! Wait!”

Lan WangJi stopped walking and turned back towards him. Wei WuXian jumped from the wall and held a jar of Emperors Smile.

“Wanna drink with me?”

He laughed internally as he waited for Lan WangJi stoic expression to crack. But he was shocked a third time that night.

“Mm, okay.”

“Eh? Really?”

Lan WangJi nodded.

The two made it back to Wei WuXian’s room and he poured them each a cup of wine. Wei WuXian sipped his wine and watched Lan WangJi purse his lips and pick up his own cup of wine.

Wei WuXian wanted to know how many cups it’ll take to get the great Hanguang-Jun drunk.

He stared eagerly as Lan WangJi placed the cup to his lips and drunk the whole thing. Then, he closed his eyes, furrowed his brows and tilted his head forward and fell asleep.

Wei WuXian blinked as he placed his cup down and shuffled over to the sleeping figure. Lan WangJi’s posture was still perfect and he head was titled down slightly, his eyes closed and his eyelashes fanning his cheeks.

Wei WuXian pouted and leaned back against his table and stared at Lan WangJi’s sleeping form.

“Aya! Who knew you’d fall asleep form one cup!” He chuckled and poured the wine from the jar into his mouth.

He stared at Lan WangJi’s handsome features as he drank. He breathing was even and his eyelids twitched at some points. Wei WuXian felt a smile bloom on his face. Lan WangJi was truly beautiful, he has always known this

. He was suddenly bombarded with a possessive feeling for the young boy in white and the thought of Lan WangJi being with anyone was sickening to him.

He was his and his alone.

With a pleased smile, he drunk more Emperors Smile.

Lan WangJi began to open his eyes and looked up at Wei WuXian.

“You’re awake! Welcome back!” Wei WuXian laughed.

Lan WangJi continued to stare at him. Wei WuXian narrowed his eyes slightly and said, “Lan Zhan… are you drunk?”

Lan WangJi shook his head but reached froward and caressed Wei WuXian’s cheeks with his fingers, his eyes still cold and expressionless. Wei WuXian felt his lips twitch and he started to feel tipsy.

This was going to be fun.

Wei WuXian was officially drunk as he laughed and chased Lan WangJi around the room. He never knew that Lan WangJi was so playful when he was drunk!

Wei WuXian tackled Hanguang-Jun onto the ground and giggled. Lan WangJi’s heart raced under his palm and he looked up and saw Lan WangJi’s ears turning red but kept a neutral expression.

Wei WuXian smiled and moved his face closer to Lan WangJi’s. The Jade Twin’s breath picked up at he stared into Wei WuXian’s grey eyes.

“Hey, guess what? Guess what Lan Zhan?”

“Mm?”

Wei WuXian’s lips curled into a wide grin as he said, “Lan Zhan is mine.”

Lan WangJi’s ears grew more red and Wei WuXian laughed and moved even closer and whispered.

“You’re mine,” Before placing his lips on Lan WangJi’s soft ones.

Lan WangJi could feel his ears heating up as he stared at Wei WuXian.

“You’re mine!” Wei WuXian could tell Lan WangJi had remembered.

He clenched the robes tight between his hands and said, “Please… don’t marry her – you can’ - Lan Zhan – “

“I won’t. I’m only Wei Ying’s.”

Wei WuXian breathed a laugh, “That’s right, you’re all mine and I’m all yours.”

Lan WangJi smiled and the two met into a deep kiss. Limbs wrapped around each other as they tumbled into Lan WangJi’s bed.

( “How come you let her flirt with you? Whenever I did it you always got mad or why did you say you were taking her to the place?” Wei WuXian had said, head resting on the palm of his hand and his elbow propped up on the bed. Tangled in Lan WangJi’s sheets naked.

Lan WangJi ran his fingers softly over Wei WuXian’s bare shoulder. “Because she’s a Princess, Uncle would be disappointed in me if I ignored her.”

Wei WuXian had huffed and laid his head on the pillow. “I guess you’re right.”

Lan WangJi’s lips had quirked up into a smile. )

Lan WangJi had rejected the marriage proposal the next morning. Wei WuXian had smiled smugly at the Princess and clung to his boyfriend.

Lan QiRen was fuming.

Jiang Cheng and Lan XiChen also came out as a couple on that day as well.

Lan QiRen had fainted.
