Work Text:

Eri was awoken by a sour scent. It invaded her nose and made her crunch it up in discomfort. She blinked her eyes open and groaned, rubbing the sleep out of them. She climbed out of her bed and sniffed the air, trying to find out if the unpleasant smell could be connected to someone she knew.

Being an omega meant that she was sensitive when it came to smells and could even tell a person’s emotions from them. Her dad was the one who explained it to her when she asked him one night why he smelled like burnt caramel. Apparently, that’s how Aizawa smelled when he was extremely tired.

After a few more sniffs, her eyes widened as she recognized the smell of lavender under the scent of rotten soil – an oblivious sign of someone being in a really sour mood.

She opened the door and tiptoed out of her room, then took her way towards the common area of the teacher’s longue. On peeking in the room, she immediately spotted out the person she was searching for.

”Toshi?” She whispered only loud enough for the other to hear. The boy snapped his head up and Eri could see the bangs under his eyes and how red they were.

”Did I wake you up?” The boy asked while Eri walked in the room. ”Sorry for that.”

”Nah, I came out to drink a glass of water!” Eri said and the boy raised one of his eyebrows. He knew how good the little girl’s nose was and even he could smell his own disgusting scent – let alone someone with as good of a nose as Eri. ”All right, yes!” She said, pouting which made the older chuckle.

”I’m fine, don’t worry,” he tried to reassure her, which attempt - needless to say - didn’t work.

”What’s wrong, Toshi?” Eri asked, looking up at him with wide, ruby eyes.

Shinsou’s inner alpha was practically screaming at him. Distressing an omega was something an alpha could never do and he knew that with lying, he would definitely commit that crime. He took a deep breath and rubbed the back of his head. Eri was still looking at him, waiting patiently.

”I am just worried because of the joint training tomorrow,” he said and Eri cocked her head, waiting for a more specific explanation. She knew there was more to that than only too much excitement. ”What if I’ll play the villain too well? What if all those people were right?”

Eri knew it was a kind of rhetorical question, but it still broke her heart. Hitoshi gave out a surprised noise as she climbed in his lap, but Eri only threw her arms around his neck and nuzzled her nose to his scent glands. She knew that act usually helped calming alphas down and from the small growl and the way the boy wrapped his arms around her little frame, she knew she was on the right path.

As soon as she felt the scent of bad feelings leaving the other’s body and lavender taking over once again, she let out a small purr of contentment. The boy meant a lot to her. To be honest, he was the most important to her in their pack – if three people could be considered as a pack that is.

”You shouldn’t care about what those bullies had said,” Eri said as she loosened her hold around the other’s neck, just to lean their foreheads together. ”Daddy always says that bullies are never right and he wouldn’t train you if he thought you’d turn out a villain. His job is to catch them after all!”

”Thanks, sis!” Shinsou said, rubbing their noses together, which made Eri giggle.

The purple haired boy closed his eyes and let his ear savour the noise. Because of his quirk, he had practically been isolated from everyone around him and having someone so close, who didn’t show fear or had any prejudice against him was a dream come true.

He lay down on the sofa with Eri still being close to him. The little girl grabbed two fistfuls of his T-shirt and in the next moment, she was out like a light. Shinsou closed his own eyes with a sigh as well. Tomorrow, he had to show everything he had learned during those few months – he wanted to get in the hero course more than anything after all.
