“It’s always been you. I love you.”
Maeve kept her phone pressed against her ear long after the message finished. She rubbed her face and felt that it was wet; Maeve looked at the sky, expecting to feel rain, before she realised she was crying.
“You okay?”
Isaac sat in his chair at the entrance to his caravan, the golden light from the inside spilling out around him. Maeve quickly wiped her face and shoved her phone in her back pocket.
“Yeah, fine.”
“Who was that?”
“Otis. He left me a message.”
“Saying what?”
Maeve could feel her eyes welling up again and shook her head frustratedly. She opened her mouth to answer Isaac, but no sound came out. He sighed.
“Go after him.”
“What?”
Isaac smirked. “You heard me. Go. Maybe in other lifetime me and you could’ve been a hot ass couple, but I can see how you feel about him. Just go before you chicken out.”
Abruptly, Maeve leaned down and kissed Isaac on his forehead.
“Oh, fuck off Wiley, just go!”
She grinned and turned around.
