Work Text:

There was an image of a blackboard on the screen, with a picture of Nene pointing at it. The text on the board read as: “For those new to this: Kamome: Unsolved Casefiles cover real world mysteries around the neighborhood. We don’t do a lot of them because they’re harder to justify going into town for and we all have parents. Also, they’re depressing, and we’re already have to fend off school, so.”

The screen cut back to the table;

“Today we’re covering an international mystery, in light of recent events. And also Patreon. But mostly, Nene-chan,” Amane was typing with one hand on a laptop in front of him, the other flipping through the documents Nene wasn’t holding, “We’ve put links down in the description so you can draw your own conclusions. The usual disclaimers we put here apply.”

 “Jokes aside, please be respectful, guys,” Kou popped in from the side, Mitsuba adjusting the lens a bit to capture him a bit more, “These are real cases, with real people. Respect is utmost.”

Amane was looking up at Mitsuba, who was mouthing, “Kou knows what utmost means?”

Kou stuck his tongue out at Mitsuba. Amane coughed behind his folder. Nene rolled her eyes, but there was a suspicious curve to the edges of her mouth.

Nene cleared her throat, the camera adjusting, the lights dimming just until the cold spotlight was the only source of light. It swung with the smallest of creaks, casting moving shadows over the hosts.

Amane smiled, and both Mitsuba and Kou felt a shudder crawl down their spines, “Two years ago, three students had disappeared from the district, between the times of six to six-fifteen AM at the northernmost road leading to the train station.”

The screen changed from the usual live-action to their animated informational slideshows, showing three blacked out icons to represent the missing students, and below, their names.

“Nanahime, Sakura. Natsuhiko, Hyuuga, and,” his voice didn’t even hitch, hadn’t the slightest dip, but behind the animatics, Nene held Amane’s hand under the table. Kou frowned, hands tightening on his sleeves, and Mitsuba, beside him, blurred the footage on purpose to make sure there was never going to be even half a quarter of a chance that anyone would see the face their friend made as he said the following name, “Yugi, Tsukasa.”

He took a deep breath, but found words piling behind his teeth, unwilling. Nene smiled at him, and gently took the file he was holding with the hand that wasn’t intertwined with his, “There had been only one witness to the events that could have led to the disappearance. Visiting them, and I repeat, they want to remain anonymous, we started to get a clearer picture than from just the usual reports.”

She opened the files, spread them out in neat order, and said, "So, let's start with the background."

Notes:

a short, cut out segment from a potential episode on Kamome: Unsolved. it was supposed to be on the real serial killer episode, but i didn't really think their parents would let them investigate a man who killed and defiled children's corpses, so.
