Chapter Text
The students of class 1A always got to school 15 minutes early. Living in the dorms, they had no reason not to be. That, and the last time someone was late, Aizawa had them run manmakers until they all puked from exertion. Nobody wanted a repeat of that, so they had made a pact to always be a little early.
It was nice, because it gave them some time to get settled in their homeroom and hang out for a little before the grueling classes of the hero course began.
It also meant that Midoriya got pulled aside by All Might a lot before class.
It was becoming a fairly common occurrence. They would just be hanging out in their homeroom, then All Might would stick his head through the door and say that he needs to talk to Young Midoriya about something. Nobody really questioned it. Since the start, there had been an obvious connection between the two, even if no one was quite sure what it was. But it had happened three days in a row now, and the class was getting curious.
"I wonder what they're talking about," said Ashido after Midoriya left their class once again to go discuss something with All Might.
"Maybe it's about his quirk?" Kirishima suggested. "Their quirks are very similar. Maybe he's giving him pointers so he won't break his bones."
"But he stopped doing that months ago," Sero pointed out.
"Maybe that's why? All Might's secret training sessions have helped him? And they're secret so we won't get jealous."
"I still think Midoriya is All Might's secret love child."
Everyone turned to Todoroki in shock.
Uraraka burst out laughing. "You... what? Secret love child?" she sputtered between breaths.
"Yes. I asked him about it at the sports festival and he denied it, but maybe he just isn't aware."
If it was even possible, Uraraka laughed harder, doubling over. "I can't even..."
"I can see where he gets the idea, kero," said Tsuyu. "Their quirks are very similar, and All Might definitely treats him like a son. He ruffles his hair."
Iida frowned. "I don't think hair ruffling is a certain indication of Dadding. Anyways, we should not be gossiping about our classmates and teachers, despite how curious their relationship is."
"Iida admitted it's curious!" Ashido exclaimed.
"That's what you took from that? It's interesting, not that you should respect privacy?"
"Yes!"
Iida rubbed his eyes. "I don't get paid enough for this."
Kaminari frowned. "But you don't get paid?"
"Exactly."
"Well, I for one, am very interested in what exactly happens in All Might's secret tutor sessions," Ashido declared. "Even if it's just quirk counseling! I wanna know!"
"You just want to gossip," said Tsuyu bluntly.
"Well, yeah!"
"Hey, Bakugo, do you have any ideas?" asked Kirishima. Bakugo was sitting at his desk, uncharacteristically silent, especially since the conversation concerned Deku. "Do you know what's up between All Might and Midoriya?"
"Ooh, yeah! You went to middle school together, right?" Hagakure chimed in. Soon enough there was a small crowd around Bakugo's desk, desperate for answers.
"I know that it's none of your damn business," Bakugo snarled.
"Aw, c'mon man! You must know more than that!" Once again, class 1A was in awe of Kirishima's power. It took a special type of person to push Bakugo without immediately getting blown up.
Bakugo rolled his eyes. "Yeah, it's about the nerd's quirk. Now fuck off, I need to grab something." He got up, shouldered through his classmates, and left.
"What was that about?" Kaminari wondered.
"He knows something, he has to know something!" exclaimed Hagakure.
"He's bad at avoiding conversations," Tsuyu remarked.
"But hey, now we know it's about Deku's quirk!"
"Aw, yess!!"
The class broke out into chatter as they started theorizing about what exactly that entailed.
"Everyone shut up!"
The class turned to see Jirou, eyes closed and brow furrowed in concentration, one ear jack plugged into the wall. "I found them, now be quiet so I can listen."
"Can you play it out loud?" asked Kaminari.
"Yeah, your speaker has an aux jack, right? Pass it over. Quietly."
"Jirou! Kaminari! You should not be eavesdropping on private conversations!" Iida scolded, chopping the air with his hands.
"And you shouldn't be committing vigilantism," Jirou retorted.
"That was private information!"
Jirou simply raised an eyebrow, the universal symbol for 'what are you gonna do about it?'. Iida slumped, defeated.
"Vigilantism?" Uraraka questioned.
"Later," Jirou promised as Midoriya's conversation started playing out loud.
"I know I'm getting the hang of the strength aspect of One for All, but I'm worried about these new quirks. I could've really hurt someone with Blackwhip, since it manifested so suddenly. I don't want to use it if I can't control it."
"I understand, my boy." Todoroki gave a smug smirk at the familiar term. "This is new to me too. One for All is such a multi-faceted quirk. It appears that it manifests differently for each user."
"Right... that's why you were able to use 100% right away but I couldn't... and probably why I'm unlocking all these new quirks and you didn't... it remains the same quirk at its core, but each user uses it differently... what about your master? How did she use it?"
"I didn't know my master for long. I know she had a quirk before One for All, but I didn't see it in action enough to know how it affected it. From the little I know of her, she was able to use the strength augmentation, but not as much as I could."
"Which makes sense because it gets stronger with each user...From what the past users have told me, her quirk should be laying dormant in One for All right now... but that doesn't help the problem of my lack of control."
"I wouldn't worry about it too much, my boy. You can't expect it to come instinctively. The fact that you've come this far with One for All in just a year shows that you're a fast enough learner to get these quirks under control before they become a problem."
"Yeah... I guess you're right. I guess I just keep comparing myself to Kacchan and the others, which isn't fair to me. They've had over a decade longer to get used to their quirks than I-"
A door crashed open in the background.
"DEKU! Your shitty classmates are onto you!"
"They're your classmates too, Kacchan."
"Whatever! They're getting suspicious about All Might's kidnapping and your little 'talks' that happen every second goddamn day. You need to be more subtle, old man. They started asking me about it, and I didn't want to fucking lie so I just left."
"Okay. We'll talk about this later, more subtly. It's almost time for homeroom, so you two should head back to class. Thank you for alerting us, Young Bakugo."
"Tch. I know this is important to you. I'm not a total asshole."
"You've come a long way, Kacchan."
"WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!"
Jirou unplugged her ear jack and opened her eyes. She looked at her classmates, who were all frozen in the same look of shock.
Finally, Uraraka spoke.
"What the fuck."
