To Change the Future - The Greek Heroes

Summary:

Whenever a story is written, another universe is created, a universe where that story comes true. Aishah Dearly is chosen to travel to the Percy Jackson universe and read the Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Trials of Apollo, Magnus Chase, and Kane Chronicles books with the characters from all the series.

My first story.

Cross-posted on ff.net and Wattpad.

Notes:

AN: This is my first story. I am trying to write and update the chapters as quick as I can, but no promises. There will be an irregular posting schedule. I am British, and Percy is American, so I apologise for any mistakes. Cross-posted on ff.net and Wattpad. Hope you enjoy!

Edit: On indefinite hiatus

Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson.

Chapter 1: Rules and Introductions

Notes:

IMPORTANT
Because sometime in the future I hope to do similar stories about Doctor Who and Harry Potter, I am changing the name from Rose to Aishah, as both other fandoms have characters called Rose.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The Fates, the Nørns, and Shai, the Egyptian god of Fate, were working together to create a magical place outside of time and space. It needed many rooms, and would summon anything it was asked to. When they finished, they looked at each other, and clapped their hands sharply. With a flash of light, they disappeared, and 99 demigods, 73 gods, 23 mortals, 14 magicians, 5 satyrs, 2 elves, 2 dwarves, 2 centaurs, a cloud nymph, and a dryad arrived. After two seconds of stunned silence, a wave of noise erupted from the group. Of course, as everyone was shouting, no-one was heard, so there was no point in shouting anyway, but that didn’t occur to the gods. In the midst of the chaos, Hestia stood patiently, used to her dysfunctional family. Then, a note fluttered down from the ceiling and landed in front of her. Noticing it was addressed to her, she quickly read it. “Silence!” roared the eldest goddess, flames burning all around her. Since she was well known as the calm one, everyone was too shocked to disobey.

Once everyone was quiet, Hestia spoke, “Everyone sit down.”

They did so.

“The Fates themselves have brought us here. They sent me a note. Do not try to defy them. Do not try to harm anyone. It will not work. We are outside of time and space here, and as such can pause in our usual duties. We will be receiving another guest shortly, who will explain further.” She sat down, and seconds later, there was another flash. This time, it transported only one person. A girl, looking to be in her early teens, with shoulder length dark hair, and a rucksack on her back. The girl looked at all the gathered people, and spoke.

“Hi. My name’s Aishah Dearly. I’ve been sent from another universe. In my universe, the myths were just that: myths. Stories passed on through the generations. Made up facts, to explain that which was unknown. Now, in the 21st century, stories are being told about the myths. But each one becomes real. Another universe, unknown to all. As the ones in charge of each universe, each trio of Fates whose universe has been on the brink of destruction at least ten times in five years are informed. Each trio of Fates informed are allowed to choose one person who has read their book, or books. One person who is then tasked with helping that universe to stay on track. To change their Fate. To not be destroyed. I have been chosen to save this universe.”

“How do you plan to do that?”

“By everyone sitting down together and reading the books I’ve bought with me. So far, the author, Rick Riordan, has just finished the fifth series. When the next book is published, it will arrive here for us. We’re going to be reading them chronologically, starting with ‘Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes’. It is the sequel to ‘Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods’, but we’re not reading that, because it’s not necessary to make the future better, and gives the gods even more reasons to kill Percy for his rudeness, although they can’t do so here. Then we go on to the series ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’, carrying on with ‘Heroes of Olympus’, ‘Kane Chronicles’, ‘Demigods and Magicians’, ‘Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard’ and ‘Trials of Apollo’. The last two take place at the same time, and you’ll hear each referenced in the other.”

Again uproar. Percy, Magnus, and the Kanes were surprised that someone had named a series of books after them. Apollo was worried that he seemed to have some troubling times ahead. He didn’t like the sound of these trials. Everyone else was worried about how Aishah had said their universe had been in deadly peril ten times in five years.

Once it had calmed down a little, Aishah spoke again, “Spaced out chronologically between the books we’ll read the short stories in the extra books Rick published about the series, such as Camp Half-Blood Confidential.

“Also, there are people from several different timelines here. If you change the future, it will create a branch off the main timeline, as you cannot change the past, and therefore, cannot influence what as already happened, even if you have not lived through it yet. Sorry, people from 2011. However, you will notice the dead among you. For the duration of this reading, they will be back in their normal bodies, and you can interact with them as if they were still alive.

“The Fates are strict. As well as saving their universe, this is a massive form of entertainment for them, and they’re not going to spoil it. However, other than two rules, they’re not going to interfere, either. The rules are, first, no spoilers, but if someone from 2005 wants to know if they’re dead in 2011, come and see me. Second, no causing anyone harm that cannot be completely cured within half an hour. Yes, this includes godly healing. You physically cannot break these rules, if you wish to try, be my guest. It won’t work.

“Another thing, when you introduce yourself, don’t say any of your titles, just say what pantheon you are from, and what you are, eg. Greek demigod, or Egyptian magician. Gods, you have to guess who your children or hosts are. If you guess correctly, they will then introduce themselves with all their titles. And Percy ? All your titles, without complaint, otherwise I’ll get Thalia and Nico to say them for you.” Thalia and Nico grinned. Percy nodded rapidly. Thalia and Nico looked disappointed. “I know there are people here from the past that those from the future already have feelings for. Do not blame anyone for something they haven’t done yet, even if you know they did it in your past. I think that’s it. Shall we start with the introductions?”

They went round the room each of them introducing themselves as they had been told.

“Excellent! Now, let’s start reading. Who wants to go first?”

Chapter 2: Pizza and Jelly Beans

Sorry for the long wait. I don't really have an excuse, but hopefully I'll be a bit better now. Thank you so much to everyone who kudosed, commented and subscribed. I do try to reply to every comment I get.

Chapter Text

“Excellent! Now, let’s start reading. Who wants to go first? Percy? How about you? It’s just the introduction.”

Percy sighed, but reached for the book, opening it to the first page. As his eyes fell upon the words, his face brightened. He could read it!

Introduction

Look, I’m only in this for the pizza.

Annabeth laughed. “Of course you are, Seaweed Brain.”

The publisher was like, “Oh, you did such a good job writing about the Greek gods last year! We want you to write another book about the Ancient Greek Heroes! It’ll be so cool!”

And I was like, “Guys, I’m dyslexic. It’s hard enough for me to read books.”

Then they promised me a year’s supply of free pepperoni pizza, plus all the blue jelly beans I could eat.

“They’ve got him now,” Grover sighed.

I sold out.

Grover threw a look at Heracles, who had looked sceptical at his earlier comment. He was pointedly ignored.

I guess it’s cool. If you’re looking to fight monsters yourself, these stories might help you avoid some common mistakes - like staring Medusa in the face, or buying a used mattress from any dude named Crusty.

Grover bleated and Annabeth snorted. “Yes, please don’t. That was not fun.”

Sheepishly, Percy rubbed the back of his neck. “Sorry,” he said, and carried on reading.

But the best reason to read about the old Greek heroes is to make yourself feel better. No matter how much you think your life sucks, these guys and gals had it worse. They totally got the short end of the celestial stick.

As Percy went on, the ancient heroes were restless. None of them had exactly had a good life, but it seemed like it would get much worse.

By the way, if you don’t know me, my name is Percy Jackson. I’m a modern day demigod - the son of

Percy interrupted himself. “Didn’t you say they had to guess our parentage? So I probably shouldn’t read this out then?”

Aishah nodded.

I’ve had some bad experiences in my time, but the heroes I’m going to tell you about were the original, old-school, hard-luck cases. They boldly screwed up where no-one had screwed up before.

The unease grew.

Let’s pick twelve of them. That should be plenty. By the time you finish reading about how miserable their lives were - what with the poisonings, the betrayals, the mutilations, the murders, the psychopathic family members, and the flesh-eating barnyard animals - you should feel better about your own existence.

Some of them snorted. They doubted it.

If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what will.

So get your flaming spear. Put on your lion-skin cape. Polish your shield and make sure you’ve got arrows in your quiver. We’re going back about four thousand years

“Four thousand years! You’re from four thousand years in the future!”

Malcolm nodded at his mother. “Yeah, about that. Maybe a little less.”

to decapacitate monsters, save some kingdoms, shoot a few gods in the butt,

Zeus spluttered, but, after a look from his eldest sister, said nothing.

raid the Underworld

Hades glowered.

and steal loot from evil people.

Then, for dessert, we’ll die painful, tragic deaths.

Ready? Sweet. Let’s do this.

Leo was grinning. This was why he liked Percy: they were so similar.

Percy lowered the book, and asked, “Who’s reading next?”

Annabeth, sitting next to him, reached out and took the book out of his hands. “I am.”
