Notes:

Day 2: Flying.

Work Text:

To say Dabi was exhausted would be an understatement. Since Shigaraki left to who the fuck knew where after his fight against Re Destro, Dabi took over his position temporarily. All those fucking idiots came to him with their questions and problems and what Dabi was the worst at was dealing with other’s whiny complaints.

He knew – yes, he knew – that to persuade them to fight alongside with the league, he had to show compassion and be helpful, but there were times he didn’t want to do anything more than blow their faces off. Furthermore, there was a thing that made everything worse. All right, not a thing, but a person – and Dabi was heading to his meeting place with said person at 11 PM after a long and shitty day.

As soon as he pushed the roof’s door open, he spotted him out. He was standing with his back towards him, watching the city lights. Dabi had to hold back a snort. What kind of idiot behaves so recklessly when they had to meet a wanted criminal?

”Before lecturing me about my behavior, I knew you were coming since you crossed the road,” the hero said and Dabi growled. The crossroad was ten minutes away from their meeting place. Hawks’ wings twitched because of the sound and the man turned around. ”You look like as if you haven’t slept for days.”

”If only one day can make me look like that, I have a long way ahead of me-” Dabi said sarcastically. Hawks turned around and crossed his arms in front of his chest, raising one of his eyebrows. Dabi groaned, running his fingers through his hair. He knew the other wouldn’t drop the topic. ”Just had a shitty day.”

”You need some stress relief,” Hawks stated and Dabi rolled his eyes.

”If you haven’t realized yet, I cannot just go in a pub and drink myself into obviousness.” Hawks chuckled, which made Dabi’s heart skip a beat.

”Who said anything about drinking?” He asked, then turned his back towards Dabi once more, but sent him a look over his shoulder. ”Come. Grab my shoulders.”

”E-excuse me?!” Dabi asked as if the other was crazy. Hawks sighed and his feathers fluffed up in annoyance. For a brief moment, Dabi thought it was adorable.

”If I wanted to kill you, you’d be already dead,” Hawks said matter-of-factly, which pissed Dabi off. ”Now, come on!”

Dabi frowned, but walked up at him eventually. Instead of grabbing his shoulders, however, he wrapped his arms around his middle section. It didn’t bother the other much, considering the fact that in the next moment, the ground disappeared from under Dabi’s feet and he was falling.

WHAT THE FUCK?!” He was all, but shirked as Hawks stretched out his wings and they stopped their free fall. ”Say one reason why I should not kill you!” Dabi shouted because of the sound of the wind and Hawks winced, the sound being so near to his ear.

”If I die, you die,” he said – fuck, why he had to be right -”Now, stop being a whiny bitch and open your eyes already!”

Till then, Dabi didn’t even realize his eyes were tightly shut. He had to fight against the unwillingness of opening them, but when he did, his eyes widened because of the sight below him.

Seeing the city from up there was as if the buildings were different kinds of germs given the different colors of lights they were lit with. Hearing his gasp, Hawks turned his head back with a smirk ghosting on his lips.

”Don’t say anything,” Dabi warned and Hawks only shrugged, but the smirk never disappeared. They took a turn to the right and curiosity bloomed in Dabi’s chest. ”Where are we going?”

”To my place,” Hawks announced, without looking at him. ”You may not drink in public, but this doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a few.”

”Are you really that delusional?” Dabi asked with amusement.

Hawks looked back at him once again and his smirk was on full display and outmost taunting.

”You see, one of the few advantages of being a hero is that you can afford to have more than one apartment.”
