Kentucky Rain

Summary:

Every summer, the Joestar family gathers together for a family vacation. This time, Johnny and Gyro so graciously offer their home in Kentucky.

AKA: a cute fic about family horse riding, family bonding, and everyone being proud of Johnny’s mental progress.

Notes:

Surprise! I was finally able to write a fic that wasn’t in Giorno or Mista’s POV. I found that I really enjoy writing the Joestar/Brando family, so I wanted to continue the vacation train. A lot of them seem to be out of character, but I wanted to give them more of a family dynamic. Hope you all enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: On the Road Again.

Chapter Text

“Are you really sure you want to do this?” Gyro asked Johnny as he straightened up the house. It wasn’t nearly as large as the Joestar Manor, but it was definitely big enough to hold the majority of the family.

“We can’t keep saying no. It’s only fair.” Johnny explained.

After their bizarre Christmas vacation, they all somehow decided to get back together during the summer. One way or another, Johnny had offered his place to the family. They were always intrigued with his horse racing anyways, so he offered to give them all some lessons over the summer. They had plenty of land and it could be a good bonding experience for the family. However, he didn’t actually expect them to agree on it. Normally, they would all jump on the Miami train, not the Kentucky one. It was almost as shocking to Jotaro and Kakyoin. Which, speak of the devil, were both the first Joestar’s knocking on their front door.

“How the hell are y’all the first to get here?” Johnny shouted from the living room. He was attempting to toss the blanket on the back of the sofa, but he was failing miserably.

“I’m happy to see you too, Johnny.” Noriaki grumbled, grabbing the blanket from Johnny and tossing it on the back of the sofa. He mumbled a small “thanks” and turned to place the decorative pillows on there next.

“How was Jolyne on the ride up?” Johnny asked. Johnny was never terribly great with children, but he was more than excited to teach Jolyne how to get on a horse. He wanted to maintain his status of “coolest fake uncle”, and he was sure as hell ready to fight someone for it.

“Really fussy. She wouldn’t stop unless we turned on Finding Dory. I can only handle Ellen Degeneres for so long.” Noriaki sighed, plopping down onto the newly decorated couch. Decorating the couch seemed like such a waste of time, but Gyro insisted. He wanted it to look all fancy.

“I would have thrown her out of the moving vehicle.” Johnny teased.

“Trust me, we almost did.” Johnny heard Jotaro say. He must’ve just come in.

“Where’s Jol? I wanna see her chubby face.” Johnny asked, wheeling over to Jotaro’s side.

“She wanted to look at the horses. Gyro said he’d take her to go see Valkyrie.” Jotaro answered as he walked over to Johnny’s fridge. He opened it and immediately grabbed a beer. Johnny shot him a knowing look. Fucking kids.

___________________________

This vacation wasn’t going to be nearly as big as the last one. Nearly half the people are coming to their little ranch. The only ones that were coming was: Erina, Joseph, Caesar, Kakyoin, Jotaro, Jolyne, Dio, Giorno, and Mista. Diego and Hot Pants were already a given, considering the fact that they also own the ranch. They only lived about two minutes away, yet still on the same land. The Joestar/Brando duo could get some great things if they just worked together. The most shocking thing, however, is that Dio had agreed to come. Johnny knew it was mostly for Giorno, Diego, and Erina, but he couldn’t help but feel surprised that he would come to their strange horse outing. Jonathan, Speedwagon, and Will had some important things to do for Speedwagon’s company, and Josuke, Okuyasu, Gappy, and Yasuho were all busy in Morioh. It was upsetting to hear that they couldn’t come, but Johnny and Gyro were just glad to be able to spend time with the rest of their family.

“I’m glad y’all had the time to see us, though. It’s really nice to have the company.” Johnny admitted. He wasn’t always so open about his feelings, but he genuinely was glad that they were here.

“Well, I hope you still are glad, because you’re coming with me to get Dio, Erina, Giorno, and Guido.” Jotaro stated.

“Well fuck, when do we have to leave?” Johnny asked, a tinge of annoyance in his voice. Leave it to Jotaro to wait till the last minute to tell someone something.

“Right now. Get in the car.” Jotaro said, motioning for Johnny to follow him. He just heard Kakyoin laughing from the living room. Johnny’s guess was that this was Jotaro’s punishment, and now he was being roped into it.

“Watch the house, Nori.” Johnny called out. He didn’t turn around, but he only imagined that Noriaki gave him a small thumbs up.

“You really made him drive for 14 hours?” Johnny turned to ask. Jotaro only gripped the steering wheel tighter.

“Good Grief. I didn’t make him do anything. I kept offering to take over.” Jotaro barked.

“Hm, I guess so. I’m just surprised y’all got here before Joseph and Caesar.” Johnny said. Jotaro just snorted next to him.

“Joseph probably made Cae take like, 4,000 stops. Old man always has to piss.” Jotaro chuckled.

“Remember when he pissed in the bush while we were swimming at your house, but instead of facing away he just made direct eye contact with Dio?” Johnny laughed. The memory always brought tears to his eyes. It was magnificent. The memory had Jotaro and Johnny laughing all the way until they parked at the airport.

It had only taken around an hour to get everyone and their luggage, and they soon piled into the car.

“It smells like McDonald’s in here.” Mista said as he piled into the last row of seats. Erina and Dio took the captain seats, and Giorno and Mista were left to get in the third row.

“Jolyne wanted chicken nuggets. She wouldn’t shut up until she got her chicken nuggets. We’ve never even fed her fast food. I don’t understand where she even heard about them in the first place.” Jotaro complained as he started the engine.

“They have fantastic advertising.” Dio sighed.

“You also have Joseph babysitting her. He never cooks.” Giorno added. Johnny couldn’t help but sigh. He’s constantly offered to watch Jolyne, but Jotaro has always turned him down. He probably trusts that Caesar and Joseph would be responsible enough to give her a home cooked meal, however their schedule was always busier than his and Gyro’s. Even though they were younger, they still were successful. Being a professional jockey since childhood pays well, especially in the country. Gyro being a medical intern helps too.

“Well, if she asks for them on the way home I’ll turn her down. I don’t want her getting used to it.” Jotaro explained. Johnny could only just laugh.

“Good luck with that, buddy. She’ll probably just scream her head off till she gets it.” Jotaro glared at him, as if he was angry that Johnny was right. Jolyne was one of the only few people that could walk all over Jotaro and get away with it. Not even Noriaki could do that. It was similar to Giorno’s relationship with Dio. Johnny guessed that it was some kind of offspring bond.

“I’ll just leave her at your house forever.”

“Yeah, sure.”

___________________________

It only took about twenty minutes to get everyone settled into Gyro and Johnny’s home. It also only took about twenty minutes for the house to get real loud. Joseph and Caesar arrived while Jotaro and Johnny went to pick up the others. They were the last two guests that Johnny was waiting on. Hot Pants and Diego opted to stay on their own property and just meet up with them everyday, along with Dio, Giorno, and Mista. The sleeping arrangements in Johnny’s house are as follows:

Gyro and Johnny: normal bedroom

Jotaro and Noriaki: upstairs guest bedroom

Erina and Jolyne: downstairs guest bedroom (across the house from Gyro and Johnny)

At Diego and Hot Pants home it was:

Diego and Hot Pants: normal bedroom (upstairs)

Giorno and Mista: guest bedroom downstairs

Dio: guest bedroom downstairs

Considering both couples houses were significantly smaller than the Joestar Manor, Diego and Johnny chose to split their guests up. Besides, it made more sense for Diego to take the Brando family. They had all agreed to meet each other at the stables around noon. It gave each house the opportunity to eat breakfast, get ready, and prepare themselves to ride the horses.

However, at this moment, Johnny only wished to be at the Brando property. His house was filled with two grown Italian men screaming about spaghetti carbonara. Gyro and Caesar offered to cook together, but it only led to loud Italian cursing, and pots clanging together. It wasn’t like the kitchen was cramped, so Johnny couldn’t understand why they were arguing.

Yare Yare. Can’t they just shut up?” Jotaro sighed, pulling his cap down and reclining on the couch. He seemed pretty tired, which was understandable. They were cramped in a car for 14 hours.

“Don’t be mean.” Noriaki fussed, slapping the larger man's arm.

“You’re lucky they didn’t hear you, they would’ve sent you to bed without dinner.” Joseph complained. It sounded as though he spoke from experience.

“I’ll remember that.” Jotaro grumbled, shoving his face back into his book. This was going to be a long week.
