Summary:

Izuku Midoriya, or Deku, lives in a superhero society, where almost everyone has a special ability, but that's not the only way it's different from ours; there are also soulmates and Partner Quirks. Not everyone has a quirk of their own, but it's incredibly rare not to have one at all. Izuku has a Partner Quirk, but not one of his own, being originally Quirkless. He is given a great power called One for All by the most famous hero (who also happens to be the symbol of peace, All Might! This is how Izuku became the number one hero.

Chapter Text

Izuku was Quirkless; he knew it, and so did his soulmate, whoever they were. He knew his soulmate was not because he had a Partner Quirk. It was a mix of fire and ice, each coming from half of his body; ice came from his right and fire from his left. Both were surprisingly powerful so one could only imagine how powerful his soulmate’s original Quirk is. Even though Izuku never had a Quirk of his own, he dreamed of becoming a hero, those dreams were nearly crushed at age four when a doctor told him he would never have a Quirk of his own. Not understanding Partner Quirks yet, all he needed were those words to crush his dreams, almost entirely. When he got his Partner Quirk, he rubbed it in the doctor’s face thinking it was his own until he understood what Partner Quirks were. Once he understood, he was upset, but overall thrilled to have a Quirk at all, so he took it. He still held out hope that he would eventually develop a Quirk (he didn’t know just how right he would be).

Over the years he’s taken notes and trained his Partner Quirk to become more powerful, and, as a result, developed a mutation. His hair is half green and half silver and his eyes half green and half grey. He doesn’t know how, but at age 6, his eyes and hair suddenly changed into what they are now; the doctors, fortunately, said it was nothing to worry about, simply a loss of melanin in his hair and iris causing them to change color. His mom had said she had a soulmate Quirk, but never said what it was; he’s never seen her use it.

On his way to school, Izuku hears of a scene where someone with a monster Quirk stands on top of the main train station in the city. He rushes to the scene, bumping into way to many people on the way but, hey, he’s Izuku it happens, and sees the villain creating chaos near where a large group has formed and Izuku faintly hears someone say the villain tried to steal someone’s purse, then went berserk when he was cornered. Many villains these days chose to use their Quirks this way, mainly to intimidate, when cornered like this one, they tend to lash out; it’s only human nature.

The villain knocks over one of the train support beams that was holding up the wires for the train and it falls near the group, screams sound from the crowd as people curl up to protect themselves, but before it can injure anyone, the Hero Death Arms comes out of seemingly nowhere, as many heroes tend to do, and catches the beam. A water barrier appears in front of the people, created by the rescue specialist Hero Backdraft to keep the civilians safe.

As Izuku makes his way to the front of the crowd and asks who’s fighting, another hero appears, this one newer and younger than the other two; Kamui Woods, a man seemingly made out of wood with the ability to grow branches on his limbs at will.

“The young and talented rising star!” Izuku said excitedly.

“You were the one asking, but you gave a perfect commentary kid,” said a man with a mutation Quirk next to Izuku. “You’re a fanboy aren’t you?” Izuku blushes and turns his head away sputtering with embarrassment.

Kamui uses his extending tree arms to swing around the villain, landing with some flare in the station roof and begins to ready an attack that has Izuku vibrating in his boots. “There! His special move!”

“Show us something flashy, tree-man!” said the same man from before.

“Pre-emptive… binding… lacquered chain prison!” Izuku shouts along with Kamui.

The words are barely out of his mouth when a very large lady comes out of nowhere shouting, “Canyon Canon!” and knocks the villain Kamui was about to defeat off the station to everyone’s amazement and confusion. A couple men with cameras get in Izuku’s way as he tries to figure out what just happened, he finally processes the skintight outfit the hero sports and consciously averts his eyes. As she bends over the villain to apprehend him, she said, “Today is the day of my debut. My name is Mt. Lady. Pleasure to make your ass-quaintance.”

Izuku goes through his bag for his hero notebook as the crowd cheers for the new rookie hero. Izuku takes notes on the day’s proceedings, muttering to himself, as the police arrive on the scene and take the villain into custody after the news channels present a couple pictures with Mt. Lady standing near the monster.

“Hey wait, you’re taking notes? You want to be a hero?” says the man from earlier with a smile. “That’s great! You can do it!”

Izuku turns around to the man slightly stunned, then smiles when the words process in his mind. “Yes, I’ll do my best!” The man smiled again and left Izuku to his notebook.

Izuku finally makes his way to school after all the excitement that happened that morning, surprisingly not late to his first class. He enters his classroom to find almost everyone already there chattering away, including his childhood friend-turned-bully Bakugou Katsuki whom he calls Kaachan, a silly childhood nickname the bicolor haired boy had come up with when they were barely 5 years old that the blonde hates with a passion, but the only way Izuku could get back at his terrorizor.

After the final students filter in, the teacher enters the classroom and all of the students sit down at their desks and become silent. “Since you're in your third year, it’s time for you to start thinking seriously about your future,” said their teacher, looking as bored as most of the students feel. “I’ll pass out handouts for your future plans, but… you’re all… pretty much planning to go into the hero course right?” He throws the handouts into the air (because, do they really have any purpose if everyone wants to do the same thing with their lives) and everyone shows off their Quirks (some both and some only one) as they cheer, even Izuku who has created a small snowflake in his right hand and a small flame in his left, but doesn’t cheer, even as he softly smiles as he thinks of his soulmate. “Yes, yes, you all have wonderful Quirks! But using your powers at school is against the rules!” the teacher scolds lightly as the students slowly stop using their Quirks.

“Sensei! Don’t dump us all in the same group. I’m not gonna be stuck at the bottom with all these rejects,” said Bakugou cockily, leaning back in his chair as always.

“That was uncalled for Katsuki!” shouts basically the whole class, fuming, as the rest shout in agreement, angry looks on everyone’s faces.

“You should all shut up like the extras you are!” Bakugou said in response, an arrogant smile appearing on his face.

“Oh, if I remember correctly, you want to go to U.A. High, correct Bakugou?” the teacher said.

The class breaks out into murmurs of amazement saying things like, “U.A.?”, “That international school?” as Izuku sits in discomfort and slight apprehension, predicting the outcome of this sentence.

“That’s exactly why you guys are just extras!” Bakugou said, referring to their amazement. He stands on his desk and continues, “I aced the mock test. I’m the only one in this school who could possibly get into U.A. I’ll definitely surpass All Might and become the top Hero. My name’ll be inscribed on the list of top earners!”

“Oh yeah, Midoriya wanted to go to U.A., too, right?” the teacher said, interrupting Bakugou.

Izuku shrinks more into himself as Bakugou freezes and the whole class turn to look at him and start laughing.

“Huh, Midoriya, no way!” said one classmate, wiping a tear from his eye.

“You can’t get into the hero course with a small Partner Quirk and studying.”

“Th-they got rid of that rule. There’s no precedent-” Izuku is cut off by Bakugou setting off an explosion on top of his desk. He jumped back onto the ground to avoid the explosion injuring him as his right arm covered itself in ice and moved to cover his face.

“Hey, Deku,” Izuku looked back up at Bakugou from behind his arm. “You’re lower than these rejects! You’re basically Quirkless!” Bakugou said, literally fuming. “How can you even stand in the same ring as me?”

“No, wait, Kaachan!” Izuku said backing up to the wall, the ice moving from his forearm to half way up his bicep. “It’s not like I’m trying to compete with you or anything! Believe me! It’s just, it’s been my goal ever since I was little; and well, I guess I won’t know unless I try.”

“Whatddya mean, ‘unless I try?!’” Bakugou said, fuming again. “Are you taking the test for fun?! What the hell can you do? You’re pretty much Quirkless! You only have a weak Partner Quirk! Look, your ice can’t even go to your other side!” Izuku looks down at his shoes, dejectedly as the ice melts on his arm, having been a fairly thin layer. He tries not to hear the rest of his classmates laughing at him.

The rest of the school day goes on as normal after the teacher manages to get the class back to order. A little after 3:30, school ends and the students get to go home for the day. The students chatter as they leave the room together. Izuku closes his hero journal and unlocks his phone and opens a new page on his browser to see the fight from that morning all over the news.. “I wanna hurry up and go home so I can write it down in my notebook,” Izuku said out loud, but still under his breath as he puts his cracked phone in his pocket. He would ask his mother to get it fixed or possibly get a new one, but he didn’t want to make her spend more than she needed. Sure, they got money from a father he barely remembered, but he knew she didn’t want to use it if she didn’t need to and he didn’t want to force her.

He goes to put his notebook in his bag only for it to be grabbed out of his hand by Bakugou. “We’re not done talking yet, Deku,” he said as he waves it back and forth in his hand.

“Katsuki, what’s that?” said one of Bakugou’s goons, the long haired one, as they came up behind him. He turned the notebook so the writing on the notebook was visible to them. “Huh? ‘Hero Analysis for the Future’? Seriously? Does that say part 13?” he said laughing.

“Midoriya,” the other goon said in a nasty tone.

“I-It’s fine, isn’t it? Just give it back!” Izuku said anxiously, reaching for the notebook.

Bakugou puts the notebook between his hands and sets off an explosion, damaging the notebook. “That’s mean,” Izuku said. Bakugou then throws the notebook out the window. “What?!” Izuku looks past his former friend and at the window, his heart beating a mile a minute.

Bakugou looks up at Izuku. “Most top-string heroes have stories about them from their school days.” Bakugou said as Izuku shakes in disbelief. “I want the shine of being called the only student to make it to U.A. from this mediocre junior high school. I mean, I’m a perfectionist.”

“He’s so petty,” Izuku hears one of the goons say as Bakugou puts his hand on Izuku’s right shoulder, his tone disapproving. Well, that means the goon is slightly on his side(?).

“So anyway,” Bakugou continues, smoke rising from Izuku’s shoulder where Bakugou’s hardened hand was applying pressure, most likely purposefully putting the hand on his ice side, “don’t apply to U.A., nerd.” Izuku slowly turns his gaze from where it had fallen to his shoulder to look Bakugou in the face.

The group begins to leave as Izuku continues to shake. ‘Come on,’ Izuku thinks, ‘you could at least say something back.’

“Don’t say that,” one of the goons says in response to Bakugou as their footsteps get further away. “He’s pathetic. He still can’t face reality.”

Bakugou’s footsteps stop. “If you want to be a hero so badly, there’s a quick way to do it. Believe that you’ll be born with your own Quirk in your next life and take a last chance dive of the roof!”

Izuku finally turns towards the small group, about to voice his thoughts for once, when small explosions go off around Bakugou’s palm. “What?” He said, shooting Izuku a warning look and Izuku’s words died in his mouth. Damn his cowardice.

The group finally leaves and Izuku, after gathering his thoughts and anxiety, makes his way down to the general area Bakugou threw his notebook out the window. He searches the ground for the notebook while berating Bakugou for not thinking before he spoke and acted. He finally sees his notebook in a small pod next to the school with 3 koi fish seemingly nibbling on the paper and cover. “That’s not fish food, stupid,” Izuku said to the fish. “That's my notebook,” Izuku said, slightly crestfallen as he picks the book from the water. ‘Stupid’ Izuku berates, whether Bakugou or himself, he’s not exactly sure. ‘Stupid Bastard.’

Izuku makes his way home, much less cheerful than when the day started. He makes it to a small overpass and tries to give himself a small pep talk. ‘You decided back then, didn’t you? That’s right, don’t worry about what other people think! Hold your head up high and plunge forward!’ He walks under the overpass with a laugh similar to that of All Might, who Izuku greatly admires (he was the Number 1 Hero, who didn’t admire him). He hears a weird noise behind him which makes him stop laughing and look over his shoulder. He sees a large green slime mass appear from somewhere Izuku didn’t see and stands in shock of the mass-no villain.

“A medium sized invisibility cloak,” he hears the villain say. The villain then lunges at Izuku, but he can't get away fast enough. The villain jumps on him, causing him to drop the notebook, and starts to shove green slime down his throat which is making it increasingly harder to breathe. “Don’t worry, I’m just going to take over your body. Calm down, it’ll only hurt for about 45 seconds. You’ll feel better soon.”

Izuku instinctively tries to pull the goo from his throat using his hands only for his efforts to be futile. “You can’t grab me, I’m fluid!” said the villain; thanks for stating the obvious! “Thanks for your help, you’re my hero. I didn’t think that had come to this city.” He unintentionally activates his left side and burns the villain attacking him, causing them to let out a pain filled yelp. Izuku starts to fight back harder as his hand gets warmer. The smile started smoking and the villain yelped again and he could suddenly breathe more freely, but this was today, so of course Izuku’s luck ran out eventually. The slime got 10x harder to fight against and restrained his hands. “Look kid, I wanted to make this easier, but you gave me no choice.” His breath got cut off completely and he tried to kick at the villain, both sides of his quirk activating on his hands and feet, to no avail.

Izuku’s struggles grow weaker as he is kept from breathing and his body loses strength. ‘I’m dying… Am I dying?’ Izuku thinks. He shouts for someone to help him in his thoughts, even though he knows no one will come. He looks at his notebook, which had been opened to the page where he drew his own hero suit similar to All Might's look. Izuku hears a commotion, but can’t describe it as his vision grows blurry and dark spots fill his vision with alarming speeds. He feels weightless for a moment as he sees a flash of white, yellow, and skin before he passes out.

Izuku wakes up to someone patting his cheek repeatedly and sees All Might standing above him-wait, ALL MIGHT?! “Oh, good!” All Might said cheerfully. Izuku’s grey-green eyes widen as he swiftly backpedals, not believing what is standing in front of him. “I’m glad you’re ok! Sorry about you getting caught up in my villain fighting. I usually don’t make mistakes like this, but I was high in spirits on my day off in a new place.” All Might laughs as Izuku continues to sit there in complete shock, his mouth opening and closing like a fish as he struggles to form words, his tongue seemingly paralyzed. “But, you were a big help, thanks!” All Might holds up a cola [Author thinks it should be pop, but that’s because author is from the Midwest :P] bottle full of what appears to be the slime monster that had nearly killed Izuku earlier. An ache came from his throat as he thought of it. Another cola bottle sits snugly in his pants’ pocket.

Izuku stares, still in shock that the Number One Hero is standing right in front of him before realizing he should probably get an autograph, it was one of his goals in life. “Oh, right. An a-autograph. Where should I-” Izuku stutters, looking for something All Might can sign. He spots his notebook a few feet in front of him-his notebook! The perfect thing to get an autograph in! “In that notebook-” he said, grabbing it and flipping to a page he knew to be empty, only to find there was already a large signature taking up 2 pages. Izuku bows repeatedly, stuttering through a thank you as All Might put the bottle in his pants’ pockets.

“Well, I need to take this guy to the police. See you on the other side of the screen!” All Might said as he stretched, getting ready to take his leave.

“Wait, already?” Izuku said dejectedly, the smile that had formed slipping off his face.

“Pros are constantly fighting enemies and time.” All Might said as he continued stretching his legs. Izuku’s mind rushes with questions as the Number One Hero begins to take off. “Well then, I’m counting on you for continued support!”

Izuku, who had grabbed onto his leg at the last second, was also blasted into the air, just barely holding on as the wind ripped past and through him. “Let go of me!” All Might said, attempting to gently push Izuku off after realizing his presence. “Your fanaticism is too much!” His voice was barely audible to Izuku, revealing the force of the winds All Might produced.

“If I… let go now… I’ll… I’ll die,” Izuku said, wind making it difficult to speak properly.

All Might stops trying to pry off Izuku. “That’s true.”

“I… have… a lot of things… I want to ask you directly!” Izuku struggles to say, the skin of his lips flapping in the wind.

“Ok, ok! I get it, so close your eyes and mouth!” Izuku does as he’s told and buries his face in the Hero’s leg as All Might grabs the back of Izuku’s backpack and jacket trying to keep him from falling.

The two land on the top of a building that could be a news station and Izuku gets on his hands and knees on the ground, probably traumatized from the experience. “Th-That was scary,” admits Izuku, his voice shaking with leftover adrenaline.

“Good grief,” All Might said, back turned to Izuku, his tone conveying how exasperated he was. “I’m sure if you talk to the people downstairs. They’ll let you down. Seriously, I’m outta time so I really must go.”

“Wait- um-” Izuku starts to say.

“No! I will not wait!” All Might said as he walked towards the railing of the roof.

“But--” Izuku remembers the doctor telling him to give up when he didn’t develop an Original Quirk. He retracts the hand he had held out to grab All Might again. The voices of those who doubted him cross his mind and he impulsively shouts to All Might, “Even if I only have a Partner Quirk, can I still be a hero?” All Might stops in his tracks, his head tilted slightly in Izuku’s direction. “Can someone with only a Partner Quirk and nothing else be like you?” He shouts as he squeezes his eyes closed, his body coiled tight.

Chapter Text

Izuku stood with his eyes closed, hopeful that All Might’s response was going to be positive; something he wanted to hear. “It might have been because I don’t have an Original Quirk,” Izuku said, “but I’m always made fun of… Maybe that’s why… I don’t know… But I think saving people is really cool. Saving people with a fearless smile. I want to be the greatest hero, like you…!” Izuku looked back up at All Might, only to trail off at what he saw.

In front of him stood a skeletal man in a white shirt and green cargo pants, the same outfit All Might had been wearing just a second ago. His hair was the same color, but in a completely different style than before; the main thing Izuku noticed, though, was that he no longer wore a smile. In its place, was a very hopeless face, a smile nowhere to be seen, which is what ultimately made Izuku scream in disbelief.

“Y-Y-You’re deflating…!” Izuku looks around for the real All Might, to no avail. The muscular man was nowhere in sight. “Wait, up until now… huh? Fake? A fake?! You’re so skinny!”

“I am All Migh-” the presumed fake gets cut off by an alarming amount of blood coming from his mouth.

Izuku screams again. “No way!”

“You know how those guys at the pool are constantly flexing and posturing? It’s like that.”

“No way!” Izuku said once again, still in disbelief. “I-It can’t be… All Might is fearless… he saves everyone with a smile… he’s the greatest…”
The man sighs. “A fearless smile, huh?” He sits against the railing, the simple action appearing to take way more effort than usually needed. “Now that you’ve seen me like this, young man, make sure you don’t write about it online, even accidentally.” The man pulls up his shirt to show a mess of smaller scars around a large angry red burn like scar on his left side. “It’s an injury I got from an enemy attack five years ago. Half my respiratory organs were destroyed, and I lost my whole stomach. I’ve become emaciated from the repeated surgeries and the aftereffects. Right now I can only do hero work for about 3 hours a day.” He lowered his shirt to again cover the scars, surgical and otherwise.

“That can’t be…” Izuku said quietly. “Five years ago… was that when you fought Toxic Chainsaw?”

“You’re well informed,” praises All Might with a hint of humor in his voice. “But a punk like that couldn’t defeat me! This fight was not made public to the world. I asked that it not be made public. I will save people with a smile! The Symbol of Peace cannot be daunted by evil. I smile to show the pressure of heroes, and to trick the fear inside me.” Izuku was shocked; the hero, thought to be fearless, was afraid, probably every time he fought a villain. “Pros are always risking their lives. I cannot simply say, ‘You can become a hero, even without power of your own.’ Partner Quirks are much too weak.”

Izuku could practically hear his heart shatter in his chest. The person he wanted to hear good news from the most, told him to give up, just like that doctor did when he was 4 after he was told he was never going to receive an Original Quirk. To a 4 year old, a partner Quirk wasn't enough; he’d wanted the real thing more. Hell, he still did. “I see…”

All Might stood. “If you want to help others, then you could also become a police officer. They’re often teased because they get villains delivered right to their doorstep, but that is also a fine occupation,” All Might said as he walked away. He stops at the door to the roof. “It’s not bad to dream. But you also have to consider what’s realistic, young man.” He leaves Izuku on the roof, closing the door behind him.

Izuku stands there, still in shock, not moving a muscle. All Might, the person Izuku had looked up to since he was so young, had just told him that his dream was unachievable and he should give it up. He felt like crying. He couldn’t… ‘That wasn’t All Might,’ he tries to tell himself. ‘All Might would have said that I could be a hero, Original Quirk or not.’ ‘But that’s not what he said, Izuku,’ a different, meaner voice said, one that’d been with him since that infamous doctor’s visit. ‘He said to give up, Just like everyone else; maybe we actually should this time. Take up Bakugou’s suggestion to take a dive off the school roof, or any roof.’ His thoughts continued to spiral until a sudden explosion sounded in the distance loud enough to bring him back to reality. Smoke shot up from the site in a large cloud, large enough to probably be seen for miles.

His sadness was overcome by excitement to see what hero would be on the scene. “A villain? What hero will go to the scene?” His mood was dampened again when he remembered what All Might had said. He just shouldn’t go. It wasn’t going to do anything for him, since he was never going to be a hero.

Izuku started to make his way home, reading through his notebook, contradicting everything he had ever written in it. The voices of those who had ridiculed him for wanting to be a hero without a Quirk practically deafening him with their ridicule. The worst thing was that he believed them. Bakugou, his goons, the doctor, and even All Might’s voices flashed through his mind. He sighed. ‘Even a top Pro said it,’ he thought as he started to tear up. ‘Don’t cry! You knew, didn’t you? The reality. You knew, that’s while you were trying to desperately. You were averting your eyes, not looking at reality.’ An explosion sounded closer than the first. He looked up from where he had been feeling sorry for himself only to see that, out of habit, he had made his way to where the first explosion sounded from.

He made his way across the street, standing at the back of the crowd on his toes, trying to see what happened. He got a shock when he realized that it was the slime villain from earlier in the middle of the Tatooin shopping district, most of which was on fire. ‘Why’s that guy here? Did they get away from All Might?’ He tried to figure out a way the smile villain had been able to get away from All Might (which was probably not too hard in his skinny form) when it struck him. On the roof after Izuku had grabbed onto All Might, the bottles hadn’t been in his pockets! ‘Did he drop it? If he did… then it’s my fault…’ He stood in immense shock and guilt, feeling responsible for the whole mess. ‘Now look at what you've done, you waste of a Partner Quirk.’

“Why aren’t the heroes doing anything?” The voice of one of the young men standing in front of him shocked him out of his sorry state and while he stopped spiraling, the guilt remained.

“They can’t. Apparently the villain caught a junior high schooler. It’s been like that for a while,” another man responded.

Izuku tuned back into the scene to see if he could catch a glimpse of the kid that happened to be his age or close to it. ‘Caught…? It’s been like that for a while? How can they bear that suffocation? I thought I’d die after a few seconds. Wow…’

“Hey, isn’t that the villain All Might was chasing earlier?” a man near Izuku realized. Just like that, murmurs broke out, all of the people watching the scene tore their eyes away from the chaos to look for the Number 1 Hero, not seeing him anywhere. One question was on everyone’s mind; where was All Might? Why was he not there?

‘It’s all my fault…! He can’t do anything! He can’t catch that guy. All we can do is wait for a hero with a suitable Quirk, even a Partner Quirk would be hel-’ Izuku’s thoughts trailed off. His Partner Quirk! He had fought the slime villain earlier, while not very successful, he had managed to at least hold it off for a few seconds! If he could get close enough. He began forming a plan in his head when he finally caught a glimpse of the kid the villain had caught.It was only the upper half, but he could have sworn he had seen it somewhere. That hair color and style seemed so familiar, why couldn’t he place it?

Then the kid opened his eyes. Before he could register anything else, he was running to Bakugou’s aide; no plan, possibly no backup, just instinct.

“Idiot, stop!” he vaguely heard one of the heroes shout at him.

‘Why did I run out? What am I doing? Why?!’

“Die in an explosion!” the villain shouts, thrusting one of its hands at him (well, Bakugou’s hands).

‘What do I do? What do I do at a time like this?!’ He then remembers one of the attack styles he had written down in his notebook while taking notes on Kamui Woods and throws his unzipped backpack at the villain, causing it to be caught off guard as the materials inside hit them in multiple places across the face, including the eyes. “Kaachan!” he shouts as he gets to the villain. He puts his right hand to the slime and starts to freeze it solid, his left side slightly heated so he could break it, but not hot enough that it would melt instantly. His left hand bruised as he hit the iced slime with all his might, the ice cracking, but not yet breaking.

“Why are you here?!” Bakugou yells at him, most likely shocked that the ‘Quirkless loser’ had run to his aide and made an ice wall in front of him as he banged his hand against it.

“My legs moved on their own! I was coming up with a plan to help and I don’t know why I moved before I had one!” Izuku started to tear up, from fear or the ash in the air, he wasn’t sure. He then smiled at Bakugou, trying to imitate All Might. “You looked like you were asking for help…” The villain moved back to where Izuku couldn't touch him and got ready to strike, slime forming into large sections around him.

Izuku’s life up to that point flashed before his eyes as he tried to cover his head with his arms, ice forming on his right in a thicker shield than earlier that morning and coming up to cover his face, when the explosion happened. “I really am pathetic,” a familiar booming voice said as Izuku moves his arms from in front of his face, ice receding, and opens his eyes to see All Might standing above him. “Even though I admonished you, I wasn’t putting what I said into practice!” All Might tugged his arm out of the slime villain’s grasp from where it had been stuck and grabbed Bakugou’s jacket, dragging him to relative safety. “Pros are always risking their lives!” he said, blood shooting from his mouth and creating a waterfall down his chin.
“All Might!” the slime villain shouts, fear clear in his voice.

The villain goes to attack All Might, but the fight is already won as All Might shouted, “DETROIT SMASH!!!” The wind pressure causes the villain to come apart, slime flying in every direction, freeing Bakugou from the villain’s grasp, and creating a mini tornado that was strong enough to pick up everything not nailed down and put out all of the fires that Bakugou had started trying to free himself. Mt. Lady had formed a barrier around the bystanders with her arms and the rest of the heroes had huddled together, each holding onto something stable as to not get sucked up into the mini tornado formed by the punch. Izuku grabbed onto All Might’s leg again, but even tighter than earlier that afternoon.

Izuku, slightly out of it due to excess adrenaline, only registered that it had started raining and not much else for a good couple of minutes. The next little while went by in a blur. The heroes collected the rest of the slime and safely handed it over to the police in multiple containers so that the villain wouldn’t reform on route.

“Jeez, there’s a limit to how reckless you can be,” Death Arms scolded. “There was absolutely no reason to put yourself in danger!” Izuku got an equally bad scolding by Kamui Woods and Death Arms, while Bakugou was praised by the heroes for sticking it out.

Eventually, Izuku was allowed to go home, he looked for All Might to give an apology, but stopped in his tracks when he saw All Might was giving an interview. Deciding not to interrupt and just leave a message on his website, Izuku started on his way home.

When he was nearly there, he heard a shout from behind him. “Deku!”

Izuku turned and saw the last person he expected to be running at him almost full sprint, but with the nickname, he should have expected it. “Kaachan?” he whispered in disbelief.

Bakugou stood there panting for a moment before he spoke. “I never asked for your help! And you didn’t help me! Got it?! I was fine by myself. You’re just a Quirkless failure playing with a full deck!
Don’t think you can look down on me! Are you trying to make me owe you?! Don’t look down on me!” With that said, he turned and sulk-walked back in the direction he came from, hands in his pockets and hunched over like seemingly embarrassed. Izuku guessed that was the only ‘thanks’ he was getting so he accepted it.
Izuku turned back around to continue his walk home, when All Might, fully muscular, suddenly appeared out from another street in front of Izuku shouting, “I am here!”

“A-All Might?” Izuku stuttered in shock. “What are you doing here? You were surrounded by reporters until just now…”

All Might laughed. “Getting away from them was a piece of cake! Why? Because I am All Migh-” he cut off as he turned into the small man while blood shot out of his mouth. Izuku screamed as All
Might coughed for a brief second and wiped his chin. “Young man, I come with thanks, a correction, and a suggestion. If you hadn't been there, if you hadn’t told me about your life, I would have turned into a guy in a bodysuit who was all talk. Thank you.”

“That can't be,” Izuku responded, head tilted down in shame, “it was my fault in the first place. I got in the way of your work, and I said all those impertinent things even though I’m Quirkless…”
“That’s right. It was because none other than the timid, Quirkless you at the scene, that I was able to act.” Izuku looked up in shock. “Top heroes have stories about them from their school days. Most of their stories have one thing in common; their bodies moved before they had the chance to think.” Izuku looked down as tears started to form in his grey-green eyes, for some reason remembering his mother’s apology to him. “That was true for you too, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah,” Izuku responded, tears flowing in a steady stream down his cheeks and fell to his knees.

Then, All Might said the words that he hoped his mom would say instead of an apology. “You can become a hero.” And with those words, coming out of his childhood idol’s mouth, brought forth the
sobs he’s been trying to hide.

Chapter Text

“Inherit your power?” Izuku said looking up after composing himself, tears still streaming down his freckled cheeks and slightly drooling.

All Might laughs. “What’s with that face? That was just a suggestion. The real show starts after this.” He takes a few steps towards Izuku and raises his hand, index finger pointed. “Listen, young man. You need to decide whether or not you will accept my power!” he said, blood shooting from his mouth and finger pointed straight at Izuku.

‘Wh-What is All Might saying?’ Izuku asks himself.

“I’m talking about my power, young man,” All Might said, as though answering Izuku’s unspoken question. “The tabloids call it ‘superhuman strength’ and a ‘boost,’ and I constantly dodged the question during interviews with a funny joke. Because the symbol of Peace had to be a natural born hero. But young man, I will tell you the truth.” Izuku looks on in wonderment, as he too had believed the Symbol of Peace, his role model and idol, All Might, had been a natural born hero; someone born with an incredible Quirk they had full control over. Was his impression wrong? “My Quirk was passed down to me, like a sacred torch.”

“It was passed on to you?” Izuku said in wonder. Passed down? That didn’t seem possible; and now he wanted to give it to Izuku? The person everyone saw as useless because he didn’t have a Quirk of his own?

“That’s right. And next, it’s your turn.”

“W-Wait! Wait a moment,” Izuku interrupted. “It’s true your Quirk is something highly debated, as one of the world’s greatest mysteries. So much that not a day goes by that I don’t see someone talking about it online. But, well, I don’t really understand…” Izuku begins muttering to himself, a habit he picked up at a young age and was pretty sure was never going away; well, that and apparently annoying Bakugou to no end, but at this point he was willing to take whatever victory he could.

“You always start with denial, huh?” All Might said, interrupting his muttering with and exasperated tone. “Nonsense!” Izuku looks up in shock at the English exclamation, breaking out of his trance. “I may have a lot of secrets, but I don’t lie. The power to transfer power, that is the Quirk I inherited. I was crowned ‘One for All.’ I believe my soulmate also gained the ability soon after I did.”
“One for All…” Izuku parroted in awe, his lower jaw practically detached from his skull.

“That’s right. One person cultivates the power and passes it onto another person who cultivates the power and passes it on. It is the crystallization of this power that spins together the voices of those who need help with a courageous heart.”

Izuku’s bicolored eyes shined with tears once again. “Why are you… Why are you giving me something so great?”
“I have been looking for a successor. And then, I thought it would be all right for you to inherit it. You are just a Quirkless hero fanboy, but you were more heroic than anyone else back there!” Izuku
nearly started to cry again. All Might hit himself in the forehead, as though face palming at Izuku’s reaction. “Nevermind! Well, it’s up to you though. What’ll you do?”

Izuku’s fingers clutched that fabric of his pants so hard, his knuckles nearly turned white. He sat there for about 30 seconds, debating whether or not to take the offer before wiping his eyes with his jacket sleeve. “I’ll do it!”

“An immediate response? That’s what I thought you’d say! But it was no easy task to achieve this power.” After that, All Might let Izuku home with instructions to go to Dagoba beach where he began training his body to be ready for One for All by moving all the trash from an area of the sandy shore, starting his 10 months of Hell on Earth. After nearly overworking himself (and his Partner Quirk per All Might’s insistence) 2 months before the U.A. entrance exam, he finally was able to remove all the trash from the beach (more than specified, might he add), using his right side to move the heavier objects he couldn’t lift, much to All Might’s approval. ‘A hero should not be judged by his Original Quirk alone. If he has a Partner Quirk, he shouldn’t be ashamed to use it, and if he doesn’t, oh well!’ he had said and Izuku had immediately thought of Endeavor who, when asked if he had a Partner Quirk and what it was, said he had one then explained he couldn’t use it due to his fire (which everyone doubted, because well, he was Endeavor, he was never really great at interviews… or any media appearance really) .

The night before the exam, he woke up extra early to go to the beach and move the straggling pieces of garbage into a large pile; he finished everything before 6 am. He then makes his way to the top of the pile, facing the ocean and screaming in victory, having finished his training and becoming a vessel for One for All as the sun rose.

Izuku falls from his pile due to exhaustion, landing safely in All Might’s muscled arms. “Good work,” All Might said proudly.

“All Might… I did it…” Izuku said tiredly. “I did it!”

“Yeah, you surprised me, you entertainer! Teenagers are amazing! Here, take a look.” Izuku lifts his head to see a picture of himself 10 months earlier, much skinnier and less muscular than he is now with tears leaking from his eyes. “It’s you, 10 months ago. You did good. You really did! The mirage of it is finally just visible, but you have certainly become a suitable vessel!”
“I feel like I’m cheating…” Izuku admits. “You did this for me… I’m too blessed.” Izuku begins to cry tears of joy at the memory of the past 10 months.
“We’ll have to fix those leaky eyes of yours!” All Might jokes(?). “Now, it’s time for the award ceremony, Izuku Midoriya!”

“Yes, sir!”

All Might pulls out a strand of hair from his iconic ‘V’ shaped hairstyle. “This is something I was once told: ‘Something that you receive because you’re lucky, and something you are given because you are recognized, are different in essence.’ Take that to heart. This is power you earned because of your own effort.”

Izuku stood strong, ready for the power that All Might possessed to be handed over to him. All Might brought the hand that was holding the hair closer. “Eat this.”
“Huh?” What? He had to eat hair to gain the power? That seemed a bit off…

“It doesn’t really matter what it is as long as you take in part of my DNA,” All Might said, scratching the back of his neck, embarrassed.

“It’s too different from what I imagined!”

“Now! There's no time! You’ll be late for the exam!”

Chapter Text

Shoto made his way to U.A. High to take the entrance exam (where he was expected to break his father’s record), which was still required even though he was already getting in based on recommendations. He passed through the front gate of the school, following the other students to the hall where one of the teachers would explain the exam (not that his father hadn’t already drilled it into him the night before after trying to awaken his Partner Quirk for the thousandth time). He had already decided that he was only going to use his right side, left side too much like his father’s and Partner Quirk nonexistent, much to the annoyance of his father. ‘I will not accept the fact that my son has no Partner Quirk!’ he had said to the doctor. ‘He is my masterpiece! For him to have a Quirkless soulmate is just unacceptable!’

Shoto had already come to accept the fact that his soulmate was going to be Quirkless; he didn’t care. If he found them, he would love them regardless of nationality, gender, race, ethnicity, or religion, unlike his father who only married his soulmate for her Quirk; who married her just to create children capable of overcoming All Might.

Shoto marched up the stairs and went through the correct door (after a small interruption from another examinee) before finding his seat in the large theater looking room and waited for whoever was giving the instructions to start.

The main lights went out and were replaced with ones that looked similar to spotlights lining the stage. The hero Preset Mic moved to stand at the podium at the center front and began what Shoto assumes was his version of an explanation. “For all you examinee listeners tuning in, welcome to my show today! Everybody say ‘hey!’” The auditorium remained silent as Shoto had expected. “What a refined response,” Present Mic said in embarrassment. “Then I’ll quickly present the rundown on the practical exam! Are you ready? Yeah!” More silence. “As it said in the application requirement, you listeners will be conducting 10 minute mock urban battles after this.” The screen behind the hero changed from the U.A. logo to a green sign saying you are here, followed by the letters A-G of the English alphabet. “You can bring whatever you want with you. After the presentation, you’ll head to the specified battle station, okay?” Shoto looked at his exam ticket which had his examinee number as well as the mock battle letter on it; he was in center B. “Okay?!” Present Mic said again as more silence meets his explanation.

He could kind of see how his dad found the hero annoying, but found the hero’s radio show entertaining himself. “Three types of faux villains are stationed in each battle center.” Three? There were 4 on the printout they were given. Why only 3 now? “You earn points for each of them based on their level of difficulty. Your goal, dear listeners, is to use your Quirks to earn points by immobilizing the faux villains. Of course attacking other examinees and any other unheroic acts are prohibited!”

“May I ask a question?” an examinee a couple rows down from Shoto asks.

“Okay!”

“On the printout there are 4 different types of villains,” the examinee said, voicing Shoto’s earlier thoughts. “If it is a misprint, then U.A., the most prominent school in Japan, should be ashamed of this foolish mistake. We examinee’s are here in this place because we wish to be modeled into exemplary heroes,” the student continued.

‘That one’s bold. I like him,’ thought Shoto. ‘Probably be annoying as a soulmate, though.’ A girl sitting next to him facepalmed. ‘Well, there you go.’

“In addition, you over there with the curly hair—” Shoto looks back to see a green-and-grey-haired kid--wait, green and grey? That was similar to Shoto’s hair! He had heard that hair could turn white early due to damage to pigment cells; did this guy have his right and left sides? “You’ve been muttering this whole time. It’s distracting. If you’re here on a pleasure trip, then you should leave immediately.” Well, there goes any respect he may have had. Insult Shoto’s potential soulmate, you don’t deserve his respect.

“I’m sorry…” stuttered curly hair as people laughed. Oh, Shoto wanted to make them hurt, Mr. Pretentious most of all.

“Okay, okay, examinee number 7111. Thanks for the great message.” The final robot appeared on the screen as Shoto turned and tried to pay attention, which seemed impossible as he just kept focusing on his potential soulmate’s multicolored hair. “The fourth type of villain is worth zero points. That guy’s an obstacle so to speak. There’s one in every battle center—an obstacle that will go crazy in narrow spaces. It’s not impossible to defeat, but there’s no reason to defeat it either. I recommend that you listeners try to avoid it.”

“Thank you very much!” said examinee 7111 as he finally sat down with a respectful bow. “Sorry for the interruption!”

“That’s all from me! Finally I’ll give you listeners a present—the school motto! The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: ‘A true hero is someone who overcomes life’s misfortunes.’ Go beyond. Plus Ultra!” A fancy graphic appeared on the screen with the words, ‘Plus Ultra’ on it surrounded by bright colors. “Now, everyone, good luck suffering!”

As the students left the hall, Shoto tried to find his soulmate among the crowd, searching for bicolored hair, but to no avail. As they arrived at the battle center, the students were in awe of the sixe. The center itself looked like a full city inside an area slightly smaller than the school building. Shoto was slightly impressed by the fact that they had 7 of them. He continued to look for his soulmate when he saw him walking weirdly in the direction of a girl trying to focus. He steeled his nerves, puffed out his chest, held his head high, and started walking over to his maybe-soulmate. When he was half way there, the student with… jets on his calves(?) walked over to his presumed soulmate and put a hand on his shoulder, making the boy jump and turn around quickly.

Oh hell no. Shoto continued in the same direction, determination painting his features. He heard people nearby the pair say something about being lucky not to have another rival. ‘My soulmate might be Quirkless, but if he’s here, he’s gonna kick your ass.’

Shoto continued to make his way to the pair when Present Mic distracted him. “Okay, start!” Everyone stood in place in confusion. “What’s wrong, there’s no countdown in real fights! Run, run! The die has already been cast you know!” Before he could even finish talking, Shoto was already running towards the large brown doors that had been opened.

He started by taking down as many 3 point robots as he could find, getting the 1 and 2 point ones when he saw them. He kept as close to his soulmate as possible, only letting him out of sight when he spotted an easy robot; he also watched as his soulmate used his ice Quirk to take down a 3 point robot. So that was his soulmate, then; he’d only used his right to form the ice and take down the robot.

After a couple minutes of cheering for his soulmate (who still only had 3 points) and killing robots himself, the cement of the streets suddenly cracked as a huge robot came out of the ground. ‘This is the zero pointer?! That one should be worth at least 50!’ The large robot was heading straight for his soulmate and the people surrounding. He had to do something; but what?

The robot punched the ground, interrupting Shoto’s train of thought and causing a huge dust cloud coupled with strong enough winds that everyone close enough got blasted back a few inches. Naturally, people started running away from the giant robot of death; Shoto only ran when he saw his soulmate leave in front of him. As he ran, his soulmate started trailing behind, but was still running so Shoto didn’t slow his step. Suddenly, the sound of metal being crushed and a large ‘BOOM’ came from behind him, so loud that it had to be the giant robot of certain death. He looked behind him and saw a multicolored head plummeting towards the ground, one arm obviously broken and possibly his ankles too, arm flopping around as he made his descent. He recognized the hair almost immediately and skidded to a halt from his sprint. Shoto began sprinting in the robot’s direction, ice already forming beneath his foot, when a girl slapped his soulmate in the face from a piece of the robot that appeared to be floating. The slap did something as his soulmate stopped descending at a speed that would surely kill him and stopped about an inch off the ground. The girl put her hands together and his soulmate fell to the ground, injured from his stunt, but very much alive. If Shoto ever saw her again, he would have to thank her after he made sure his soulmate was okay. He pushed himself to go even faster as the other testees made their way to the scene of the robot’s destruction, his soulmate seemingly crawling away from the hunk of metal behind him.

The alarm that must have signified the end of their test sounded loudly through the mock city, loud enough that the people in the other sections must have heard it as well. His soulmate ceased his crawling and put his forehead on the cement paving the fake streets. Wait, Shoto had only seen the boy take down one 3 pointer robot in the whole time Shoto had kept his eyes on him. If his soulmate failed to take out any other robots, he would only have 3 points, not enough to get him into U.A. Shoto jumped down from the roof he had been stationed on and froze at the sound of crying. His heart broke.

An old woman started shooing others aside as she passed through the crowd, giving candy to a couple kids as she went. Shoto recognized her as Recovery Girl, a hero his father had forced him to memorize; well, his father had forced him to memorize all of the U.A. staff, but that wasn’t the point. The healing hero pressed a kiss to his head and the bones in his arms and ankles shifted back into place with ease.

The testees were eventually ushered out of the city, Shoto often glancing around him in the crowd to see if he could spot his soulmate; he never saw the green and white of his soulmate’s hair.

At dinner later that night, a glass he had been drinking water out of shattered in his hand sending his older sister, Fuyumi, into a fit at the thought her younger brother was injured (if Natsuo was there he'd probably also freak out, but that's not the point). After assuring her he was fine and finishing his meal, he retired to his room where he tried to replicate the occurrence that had happened earlier that evening. After many cases of trial and error, he eventually figured out how to summon the power that had broken his water glass, but minorly spraining his finger in the process; it was healed after only a day in a splint.

A week later, Shoto got his results in the form of a video containing All Might telling him he got a large amount of hero points (more than his father, at least), and some rescue points as well for rushing to his soulmate’s (wow he really needed to learn the boy’s name) need and staying near him the whole time. How they noticed he was watching over his soulmate, he had no idea; he didn’t question it too much, U.A. was known for their observation. He was also told that All Might would be the newest faculty member at U.A. High, much to Shoto’s excitement.

Many people would expect Shoto’s favorite hero to be his father when, in reality, All Might had always been his favorite. He even had an All Might pullover he had bought out of spite with no intention of wearing, but had quickly become his favorite because damn it, the thing was comfortable. Probably the coziest piece of clothing he ever owned, but one he could only wear in secret and when his father was absent or the article of clothing would be ash in seconds. It always made him think of his mother and how she would watch All Might on the news with him before she- no, that was his father’s fault, NOT his mother’s.

Shoto was going to U.A., and based on the point system, hopefully, so was his soulmate after destroying the giant robot of death that would have hurt many people if not dealt with. That night, he slept in his All Might hoodie, father be damned, and though of his mother.

Chapter Text

The night after his acceptance letter came, All Might contacted him telling him to go to Dagoba beach after sunset; for what he wasn’t sure.

When he got to the beach, he began to cry tears of joy as he processed he was going to U.A. “All Might!”

Blood spewed from his mouth in surprise. “All Might, who’s that?!”

“All Might?” said a man inside of a pavilion at the edge of the beach that had been unearthed when Izuku cleaned it.

“No way! Where?” said a female voice.

“Repeat after me, ‘I had the wrong person,’” All Might said in a quieter, panicked tone.

“Oh, sorry I had the wrong person!” Izuku shouted, also panicked after realizing he had nearly given All Might’s secret away.

“Aw, what?” the girl said, disappointed.

“I was hoping to see him,” said the guy.

Both All Might and Izuku breathed a sigh of relief at the dodged topic, All Might’s secret protected. All Might raised his hand for a high five. “Congrats on getting accepted!”

“Th-Th-Thank you very much!” Izuku stuttered out, returning the high five.

“Just so you know, I didn’t tell the school about my connections to you. You’re the type that would think that’s cheating, right? I wasn’t one of the judges.”

“Th-Thank you for your concern!” Izuku said, bowing low. “But I was surprised to find out that you would be a teacher at U.A. So that’s why you can here, huh? I mean, your agency is in Roppongi in Minata, Tokyo at--”

“Stop that!” All Might interrupted. “I couldn’t tell anyone before the school announced it. I just happened to be offered a job at U.A. when I was searching for a successor.”

It made sense to Izuku; he was going to give one of the students his Quirk, but gave it to him instead. An unworthy user. “My body basically broke with one kick and one punch of One for All. I can’t control it at all.”

“That can’t be helped. It’s like if you asked a person who suddenly grew a tail to do a trick, they wouldn’t even be able to control it.”

“Wait, did you know that would happen?!” Izuku exclaimed, shocked and slightly offended.

“Well, there wasn’t any time… and it turned out alright… it turned out ‘all might!’” Izuku stared, shocked and unamused at the pun. All Might cleared his throat and continued, “right now you're either at 100 or 0 percent. But once you can control it, you’ll be able to adjust to what your body can handle.” All Might picks up two cans that were laying in the sand.

“Control?!”

“The more you train a vessel, the more you’ll be able to move the power freely.” The cans became crushed by the large, strong grasp of All Might’s muscular form. “Like this.”

“Wait, is that All Might?!” said the guy at the pavilion, turning back towards them

“No way! When did he get here?!” said the girl.

“Let’s go, young Midoriya,” said All Might, rushing in the opposite direction of the pavilion, Izuku hurriedly following after him. “The flame I passed on to you is still small, but in the future it will be exposed to wind and rain and it will grow even bigger. And then, I will slowly become weak and disappear, and I will finish my job. Yeah, that’s deep!”

Izuku spent the next 3 weeks training until it was finally April, his first day at U.A. High, and his mother was just as worried as usual. “Izuku do you have tissue?”

“Yes.” Izuku replies, not looking up from where he’d been tying his shoelaces.

“And your handkerchief. What about your handkerchief? Your hanky?”

“I have it! I’m going to be late. I have to hurry.”

“Izuku!”

“What is it?”

His mother’s eyes had a sheen of tears over them. “You’re really cool.”

Izuku stood for a moment, then grinned full force at his mother and stepped out the door. With that, he was off to U.A., the school of his dreams. He makes his way to the classroom door, after getting lost at least 3 times, labeled ‘1-A’ and stood in shock for a moment at how tall the door is. He could easily fit 2 more hims on his shoulders and still go through the door without trouble. He opens the door, praying he’s not in the same class as Bakugou or the guy from the entrance exam.

“Don’t put your feet on the desk!” said the guy from the exam to Bakugou. Wow, he really has rotten luck, doesn’t he?

“Huh?” Bakugou replies cockily, his uniform in its usual state of mess.

“Don’t you think that’s rude to the U.A. upperclassmen and the people that made the desk?”

“Nope, what junior high did you go to, you side character?”

“I attended Somei Private Academy. My name is Tenya Iida.”

“Somei, you’re a damn elite, huh? Looks like I’ll have fun crushing you.”

“‘Crushing?’ That’s cruel. Do you really aim to be a hero?” A girl with short black hair and green eyes behind circular glasses began to say something to him when both Iida and Bakugou turned to look over at Izuku, catching him off guard and cutting her off. “You’re…” the whole class, who had been watching Bakugou and Iida argue turned to look at him.

“Oh, um…”

“Good morning!” said Iida, walking over to him. “I am from Somei Private Academy. My name is--”

“I heard! I’m Izuku Midoriya. Nice to meet you Iida.”

“Midoriya, you realized there was something more to the practical exam, didn’t you?” Izuku looks at Iida in confusion. “I had no idea… I misjudged you! I hate to admit it, but you are better than me.” The same girl rolled her eyes behind Iida.

“Oh, that curly hair, you’re the weird one!” he heard from behind him. He turned to see the nice girl that had helped him standing there. “You passed just like Present Mic said! Of course you did, your punch was amazing!”

“Oh, well, um it was thanks to you going to speak to him directly that I, uh…” he stuttered out as the girl mock punched the air.

“Huh? How did you know that?”

“Oh, uh, that’s because-- ” she interrupted him, her attention span apparently being quite small

“I wonder if today’s just the entrance ceremony and orientation? I wonder what our teacher’s like? Are you nervous?”

“Go somewhere else if you want to play at being friends,” said a tired voice from behind the nice girl. He looked down to see a man with shaggy black hair, stubble, and tired eyes in what appeared to be a sleeping bag. “This is the hero course.” The man drank something from a squeezable pouch.

The class remained silent in shock as the man stood up and unzipped the sleeping bag all the way, stepping out as he spoke. “It took 8 seconds before you were quiet. Time is limited, you kids are not rational enough.” Izuku stood in shock. He’d never seen a hero so wiped out before. He turned to look at the whole class. “I’m your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Nice to meet you.” The whole class gasped in shock. Their teacher?! No way he was their teacher! “It’s kind of sudden, but put this on and go out to the field.” He pulled a blue jumpsuit looking piece of clothing that had white stripes forming the letters U and A on it from his sleeping bag.

Everyone stood still for a moment before filing out of the room and to the locker rooms to change into the new pieces of clothing. They made their way out to what seemed to be a pitcher's mound where the teacher told them what they would be doing that day.

“A Quirk assessment test?” the class parroted.

“What about the entrance ceremony? The orientation?” said the nice girl who’s name he learned was Uraraka.

“If you’re going to become a hero, you don’t have time for leisurely events. U.A.’s selling point is how unrestricted it’s school traditions are. That’s also how the teachers run their classes. You guys have been doing these since junior high too, right? Physical fitness tests where you weren’t allowed to use your Quirks. The country still uses averages taken from results from students not using their Quirks. It’s not rational. Well, it’s the Ministry of Education procrastinating.” He turned to look at Bakugou. “Bakugou, you finished top of the practical exam, right?” Bakugou looked at the teacher, confused. “In junior high, what was your best result for the softball throw?”

“67 meters.”

“Then, try doing it with your Quirk.” Bakugou moved over to the circle the teacher specified. “You can do whatever you want as long as you stay in the circle. Hurry up. Give it all you’ve got.”

Bakugou stretched his arm and took the correct stance, then he pitched while setting off an explosion and screaming, “Die!” He heard one of his classmates sharply inhale near him, but was too mesmerized to look.

“Know your own maximum first.” The device in the teacher’s hand beeped. “That is the most rational way to form the foundation of a hero.” The teacher lifted the device for the whole class to see. In clear numbering, it said 705.2 meters; that was how far Bakugou’s blast went.

The whole class gasped in shock. “705 meters? Seriously?” said one of Izuku’s classmates; a boy with blonde and black hair who’s name might be Kaminari

“What’s this, it looks like fun!” said the one with pink skin. Mina, if he remembered correctly.

“We can use our Quirks as much as we want! As expected from the hero course!” said the one with weird elbows. Sero maybe?

“‘It looks fun’, huh?” the teacher interrupted. “You have 3 years to become a hero. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time? All right…” A creepy smile formed on his tired face. “Whoever comes in last in all 8 tests will be judged to have no potential and will be punished with expulsion.”

“Huh?!” the whole class screamed. Izuku started to panic. Sure, he had a surprisingly powerful Partner Quirk, but didn’t have control over One for All yet! Oh, he was going to be expelled.

“We’re free to do what we want about the circumstances of our students.” The teacher lifted his hair from his eyes so the students could see the slightly crazed look they held. “Welcome to U.A.’s hero course!”

“Last place will be expelled? But it’s only the first day!” shouted Uraraka. “No, even if it wasn’t the first day of school, it would still be unfair!”

“Natural disasters, big accidents, and selfish villains. Calamities whose time of place can’t be predicted. Japan is covered with unfairness. Heroes are the ones who reverse those situations. If you wanted to talk with your friends after school at McDonalds after school, too bad. For the next 3 years, U.A. will do all it can to give you one hardship over after another. Go beyond. Plus Ultra. Overcome it with all that you’ve got.” The whole class started to prepare themselves.

The tests were everything that they’d already done in junior high. 50 meter dash, for which he used his ice to slide across and his fire to propel him across. Making his time was just over 5 seconds. The second test was grip strength, which he didn’t do terribly in. The third test was the standing long jump which he used his fire for, but still did pretty bad; Uraraka did very well, using a combination of her 2 Quirks as she would later tell him, her Zero Gravity and Frog Quirk. The fourth test was repeated side steps which he also did pretty poorly in.

The fifth test was the one he had been dreading; the ball throw test. Everyone who went before him got amazing scores; Uraraka even got infinity! He began to panic. It wasn’t something he could get good at really quickly, especially having such little control over One for All. Then it was finally his turn. He debated what his game plan would be, deciding to go with a fire blast, coupled with One for All. Man was he happy he was ambidextrous.

He stood for a moment, replaying words of encouragement he’d gotten from people close to him, and got ready to pitch. He took his stance, swung his arm back, activated both Quirks, and released only for the ball to go 46 meters, 20 meters less than Bakugou’s without his Quirk.

His mind began to whirl, confusion fueling its spiral. “I was definitely trying to use it just now…” he said in confusion.

“I erased your Quirk,” he heard the teacher say. He looked over to see the teacher with red eyes, his hair defying gravity, and the scarf that sat around his neck spread out like the tentacles of an octopus. “The entrance exam was obviously not rationally enough. Even a kid like you was accepted.”

“You erased my Quirk?” Izuku looked closer at the man and saw yellow goggles hanging from his neck that only a certain hero wore. “Those goggles… I see! You can erase people’s Quirks with your Quirk just by looking at them. The Erasure Hero: EraserHead!”

“Eraser? I don’t know him,” said one of Izuku’s classmates.

“I’ve heard of him. He’s an underground hero.” said another.

“From what I can tell, you can’t control your Quirk, can you?” said EraserHead, narrowing his eyes. “Do you intend to become incapacitated again and have someone save you?”

“Th-That’s not my intention--”

The man grabbed him and brought him closer using his scarf. “Whatever your intention, I’m saying that’s what those around you will be forced to do. In the past, there was an aggressively passionate hero who saved over a thousand people by himself and created a legend. Even if you have the same ridiculous valor, you’ll be decked and turn into a useless doll after saving one person. Izuku Midoriya, with your power, you can’t become a hero.” The class stood in shock as EraserHead released Izuku and closed his eyes. “I’ve returned your Quirk. You have two turns for the ball throw. Hurry up and get it over with.” He walked back towards the class.

Izuku retrieved that ball and stood inside the circle. He muttered to himself as he tried to decide what to do. When he had, he took his stance. He swung his arm, beginning the necessary motions to release the ball, and activated One for All and his fire at the very last point of contact, possibly spraining his finger, but making the ball go 707 meters. Nearly 2 whole meters more than Bakugou. Had he used his right, it could have one further, but he didn’t have a fire Quirk on that side.

“Mr. Aizawa,” he said, turning around, “I can still move!”

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed! I've noticed that the most editing needs to be done on the scenes where the kids use their Quirks, so not much was changed this chapter apart from fixing some inconsistencies. Anyway, see ya'll next chapter!

Chapter Text

“He got over 700 meters?!” said one of Izuku’s classmates.

“Finally, a hero-like record!” said Uraraka.

“His finger is swollen! There was the entrance exam too. He has a strange Quirk…” observed Iida.

“It’s not very stylish,” commented the one with the navel laser whose name Izuku couldn’t remember.

Bakugou set off an explosion in his hand (intentional or not, Izuku isn’t sure) and begins to run at Izuku. “Hey!” he shouts. “Tell me what’s going on Izuku you bastard!” Izuku gets ready to defend himself, ice forming on his palm and backing away swiftly, but just as Bakugou reaches him, he gets pulled back with Mr. Aizawa’s scarf.. “What the…? These clothes are hard…!”

“They’re weapons for capture out of carbon fiber woven together with metal wire made of a special alloy,” explains Mr. Aizawa. “Jeez… Don’t keep making me use my Quirk over and over. I have dry eye.”

‘It’s such a waste when his quirk is so amazing,’ Izuku thinks.

“We’re wasting time. Whoever’s next can get ready.”

Izuku runs away from Bakugou and towards the rest of the class, Uraraka moves towards him as soon as he gets close enough. “Is your finger ok?”

“Oh, yeah,” he replies, slightly embarrassed.

After everyone finishes the ball toss (which Izuku didn’t pay much attention to except when one student used a Quirk very similar to Bakugou’s, much to his surprise, and another who used a Quirk similar to his own-- wait, could that be…), they move on to sit ups, then the seated toe touch, and finally, the long distance run (which he used his Ice Quirk for half the time) which he managed to pass all of them with pretty average scores.

Finally, it was time to see the results. “Okay, I’ll quickly tell you the results. The total is simply the marks you got from each test. It’s a waste of time to explain verbally, so I’ll just show you the results.” He pressed a button on the device he was holding, and the results appeared.

In first place was Yaoyorozu, then Todoroki, then Bakugou, then Iida, all the way down to him in 20th place where he was--wait, there were 21 students in the class, he hadn’t come in last! He smiled lightly to himself and looked towards Uraraka who smiled back at him, happy he was staying. Instead of him, a very small boy standing toward the middle of the group of students named Mineta started crying; he had come in last and so, was being expelled by their homeroom teacher. “By the way, I was lying about the expulsion. It was a rational deception to draw out the upper limits of your Quirks,” said Mr. Aizawa.

“What?!” shouted the whole class, Mineta’s being the loudest.

“Of course that was a lie,” said Yaoyorozu, who came in first place and seemed to have a similar Quirk feature to the girl standing near Mineta. “It should’ve been obvious if you had just thought it through.” The whole class looked at her with slight annoyance, none of the other students having noticed anything.

“That was a little nerve racking, huh?” said Sero said.

“I’ll take up the challenge anytime!” said another in response; the one who had red hair and had used an ability very similar to Bakugou’s for some of the tests (Kiri…shima?).

“With that, we’re done here,” said their teacher, beginning to walk away. “There are handouts with the curriculum and stuff in the classroom, so when you get back, look over them.” Izuku, along with the rest of the class, breathed a sigh of relief that the day was over (Mineta’s again being the loudest). “Midoriya,” said Mr. Aizawa as he stopped in front of him, handing him a sheet of paper. “Have the old lady fix you up in the nurse’s office. Tomorrow will be packed with even more rigorous tests. Prepare yourself.”

After changing into his uniform, he made his way to the nurse’s office where Recovery Girl healed his finger, gave him a piece Pez from a Kamui Woods shaped dispenser, and scolded him on being careful with his Quirk. He made his way back to class drowsily to find the classroom mostly deserted except for a few students who were gathering their things and talking amongst themselves. He entered, gathered his things, and left without a word to anyone.

He sleepily made his way to the main courtyard where he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder. He turned to find Iida and another of his classmates, the one with black hair and green eyes. Her other features included full lips, freckles covering her face, and a slim, yet slightly muscular frame. “Iida!” he said, not knowing his other classmate’s name.

“Is your finger healed?” asked the girl. “I’m Suki, by the way. Suki Yagami. I’m Iida’s soulmate.” It was then that Izuku noticed the small boosters, similar to Iida’s on her calves, just a bit smaller.

“Oh! Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, and, yeah my finger is just fine, thanks to Recovery Girl!” he replied awkwardly. Looks like he still couldn’t talk to girls.

They began to make their way to the gates of the school, Suki apologizing for Iida that morning, saying he had been like that since they met in junior high. “I was really taken in by Mr. Aizawa,” said Iida, interrupting their conversation. “Even i thought ‘this is the best of the best’ and such. I didn’t think a teacher would encourage us with a lie.”

“Hey you tw-- oh! Three! Going to the station?” shouted Uraraka from behind them. “Wait for me!”

“You’re the infinity girl,” stated Iida bluntly.

“I’m Ochaco Uraraka! Um, you’re Tenya Iida, Suki Yagami, and Deku Midoriya, right?”

“Deku?!” exclaimed Izuku in surprise.

“But during the fitness tests, the boy named Bakugou said ‘Deku you bastard,’ right?”

“Uh… Izuku is my real name, but Deku is what Kaachan calls me to make fun of me…” he explains sheepishly.

“An insult?” Iida said.

“Oh is that right? Sorry!” Uraraka apologizes. “But Deku sounds like the Japanese word for ‘You can do it,’ so I kind of like it!”

“I agree! That has a much better meaning than what Bakugou must have thought of,” said Suki.

“I’m Deku, then!” said Izuku, blushing and caught off guard by the two girls complimenting him.

“You’re accepting it too easily! Wasn’t that an insult?”

“It’s like a Copernican Revolution,” said Izuku, still blushing.

“Co-pe?” Uraraka asks in confusion.

They all walk to the train station together, conversing happily and even managing to make Iida crack a smile when Suki made a joke she learned from her parents that made the other two nearly cry with laughter, continuing to smile even after the laughter stopped.

The next day, they arrived in the classroom to find that some of the students had actually found their soulmates within the class. Bakugou was being bothered by the red haired boy who spotted Izuku and formally introduced himself as Kirishima, Bakugou’s soulmate. Izuku was honestly surprised he hadn’t noticed it earlier since he’d known Bakugou for so long. Not only that, Yaoyorozu, who asked politely that everyone call her Momo, was actually Jirou’s soulmate as Izuku predicted. What he didn’t predict was Tokoyami and Shoji being soulmates, and neither did anyone else, for that matter; apparently no one had noticed Tokoyami’s extra limbs. There was also Ojiro and Toru who everyone expected as Ojiro was translucent. Even Uraraka had found her soulmate in a girl named Asui
Tsuyu! The rest of the class despaired over not having found their soulmates yet, most having little to no Partner Quirk.

Everyone then pointed him to his assumed soulmate; a quiet boy with bicolored hair and eyes who was said to have the same Quirk as him. He began to walk over to his soulmate, intending to introduce himself when the bell rang overhead, making him hold that though. Before he sat down, he looked behind him and caught his supposed soulmate’s eye, a pulling feeling coming from within him. He only broke out of his trance after he heard Iida yelling at one of their classmates. Before he faced the front, he looked back to catch one last glance at his soulmate only to find him staring straight back. Flustered, Izuku sat down and faced forwards, trying to ignore the feeling of eyes burning into his back.
The first class of the day was English taught by Present Mic. At first, everyone was confused as to why such a normal subject was being taught at U.A., the best Hero school in the country, but Present Mic explained that they still had to teach certain subjects or they could get shut down. Suki actually got banned from answering the questions after Present Mic learned her parents were American, and was therefore fluent in English; even her accent when she spoke Japanese and English was similar to Americans. After their morning classes, they had lunch in the school’s cafeteria where the food was reasonably priced enough that the average student could afford it. In the afternoon, they had hero basic training, where All Might burst through the door to the classroom.

“I am coming through the door like a normal person!” All Might shouted, not quite like a normal person, but awesome all the same, dressed in his silver age hero costume.

The whole class broke into murmurs of excitement due to having All Might as a teacher; some didn’t believe he was even a teacher in the first place.

“I teach hero basic training,” he explained. “It is a subject where you train in different ways to learn the basics of being a hero. You’ll take the most units of this subject! Let’s get right into it! So, what we’ll do today is Combat Training!” he said, pulling out a white card that said battle and showing it to the class.

“Combat training?” Izuku said in apprehension. He hadn’t been able to use One for All properly yet, not having adequate time to train and only had his Partner Quirk completely under control.

“And to go with that are these!” Compartments from the wall opened up and cases with numbers 1-21 lined the insides. Everyone cheered, their voices filled with excitement. “Costumes made based on your Quirk registrations and the requests you sent in before school started. After you get changed, gather in Ground Beta.”

Everyone grabbed their own case based on their seating arrangement and made their way to the locker rooms provided where they changed into their costumes. They then walked to the mock city, complimenting each other’s costumes. Izuku, being who he is, raced down the tunnel to where everyone was chatting waiting for the training to begin. [yes, author did say chatting. Author is old at heart.]

“Oh, Deku!” Uraraka noticed him first and looked away from where she had been fiddling with her costume.

“Oh, Uraraka!” he said, flustered as he looked at her costume, consciously keeping his eyes at her eye level.

“That looks cool!” she said, complimenting the jumpsuit his mother had made for him. “Really down to earth. I should have written what I wanted… Mine ended up being a skintight bodysuit. It’s embarrassing…” And indeed, the black and pink bodysuit was very tight, showing off curves Izuku tried not to notice.

“The hero course is the best,” said Mineta from next to Izuku, wearing a purple jumpsuit with a small white egg looking bottom, startling Izuku as he spoke.

Izuku notices All Might looking at his costume, comparing it to him. “So obvious,” he said, quiet enough so that only Izuku heard him and promptly blushed, thankfully out of sight due to his mask.

“Now it’s time for combat training!” All Might shouted after gathering the students.

“Sir!” the armoured person, who Izuku now recognized as Iida said, startling half the people near him as he spoke. “This is the battle center from the entrance exam, so will we be conducting urban battles again?”

“No, we’re going to move ahead 2 steps! Most of the time, fighting villains takes place outside, but if you look at the total numbers, atrocious villains appear inside at a higher rate. Imprisonment, house arrest, backroom deals--In this society filled with heroes, truly intelligent heroes hide in the shadows. For this class, you’ll be split into villains and heroes and fight 2-on-2 indoor battles. And yes, I am aware that there are not 20 students in this class, so one of the teams will randomly be given a third member.”

“Without basic training?” asked Asui, Uraraka’s soulmate.

“This is a real battle to understand those basics! However, the key this time is that there’s no robot you can just beat up.”

“How will wins and losses be determined?” asked Momo who was barely covered up at all.

“Can we beat them up anyway?” asked Bakugou who looked like the embodiment of an explosion.

“Will the punishment be expulsion like with Mr. Aizawa?” asked Uraraka, uttering what half the class was thinking.
“How will the teams be split up?” asked Iida, Suki hitting him on the arm lightly and muttering something along the lines of ‘he’ll get to that’. Her costume appeared to be similar to civilian clothes; a tight red cropped turtleneck, a black choker with a heart pendant, a blue/purple leather jacket, heavy black cargo pants, and combat boots. He’d have to ask her about her choices later

“Isn’t this cape crazy?” asked Aoyama, causing a couple people to send strange looks his way as he flashed his purple cape that sat draped over the back of his suit of knight inspired armour.

All Might, looking annoyed, answered, “I’ll answer all your questions!” He pulled out a small paper booklet similar to a script from somewhere in his costume and opened it. “Now listen here, the situation is that the villains have hidden a nuclear weapon somewhere in their hideout. The heroes are trying to dispose of that. The heroes need to either capture the villains or get the nuclear weapon back in the allotted time. The villains need to protect the nuclear weapon for the whole time or capture the heroes.”

‘This feels like a very American scenario,’ Izuku thought to himself.

“Teams and opponents will be determined by drawing lots!” said All Might, holding up a box with the word ‘lots’ written on it.

“They’re being decided so haphazardly?” Iida protested from the inside of his helmet.

“Pros often have to create makeshift teams with heroes from other agencies, so maybe that’s why?” Izuku theorized.

“I see. The discernment to look ahead… Please excuse my rudeness!” Iida said, bowing at a 90 degree angle.

“It’s fine. Let’s do this quickly!”

They proceeded to draw lots, Team A being Izuku and Uraraka, Team B being Shoji and Shoto Todoroki, Team C was Mineta and Momo, Team D was Bakugou and Iida (the latter shifting in what looked like anxiousness), Team E was Mina and Aoyama, Team F was Sato and Koji, Team G was Kaminari and Jirou, Team H was Tokoyami and Asui, Team I happened to be Ojiro and Toru, a team that no one expected, and finally, Team J was Kirishima and Sero. Suki, being the only one that hadn’t been pulled from the lots, was put on Momo and Mineta’s team after a random pick from the lots box.

“Wow, it must be fate! I’m counting on you!” said Uraraka, making Izuku forget how to speak properly even though his soulmate was standing in the same area as him.

All Might brought out 2 more boxes, Hero and Villain having been written on each box respectively. “The first teams to fight will be…” he said as he swished around the team letters. “These guys!” He pulled the letter A from the hero box and D from the villain box. “Team A will be the heroes and Team D will be the villains. Everyone else, head towards the monitor room.”

“Yes, sir!”

The students all moved to the monitor room except for the two teams made up of Izuku and Uraraka vs. Iida and Bakugou respectively. Izuku glanced over to Bakugou to see him glaring back at him with determined eyes seemingly lit a-flame. He looked away, calmed his nerves slightly, then looked back with the same determination, the hot headed blonde flinching at the intensity before settling back into a glare.

“Villain team, go in first and seat up! In 5 minutes, the hero team will break in and the battle will start!”

“Yes, sir!”

“Young Iida, young Bakugou,” All Might said as the team entered the building, “learn to think from the perspective of the villains. This is pretty close to a real battle. Go all out, don’t be afraid to get hurt. If things go too far, I will stop it.”

The villain team entered the building after getting their capture tape from All Might along with the building’s floor plan to memorize so they didn’t get lost.

“It’s a lot of work to memorize the building’s floor plan. But All Might’s the same as he is when he’s on TV. Unlike Mr. Aizawa, it looks like there’s no punishment, so we can relax--you’re not relaxed at all!” Uraraka pointed out as she looked over at him.

“Well, it’s because we’re up against Kaachan, and there’s Iida too, so I feel like I need to be on guard…” Izuku explained.

“I see. Bakugou’s the one who makes fun of you, right?”

Izuku looked down dejectedly. “He’s amazing. He’s a piece of work, but his goal, his confidence, his physical strength, and his Quirk are way more amazing than mine.” He stands. “But that’s why right
now, I don’t want… to lose.”

“A fated battle between men huh?” Uraraka said, slightly amused.

“Oh, sorry. This isn’t your problem, Uraraka.”

“It is! We’re a team, aren’t we? Let’s do our best!” Izuku nodded with a smile at the encouragement, fist pumping the air.

“Now, let’s start the indoor person-to-person combat training with Teams A and D!” said All Might’s voice through a speaker as a horn went off.

They gathered their gear together and entered the building through one of the windows, successfully infiltrating the building.

“We infiltrated successfully!” Uraraka exclaimed cheerfully.

“There’s a lot of blind spots, so let’s be careful.” Izuku said in response.

They continued through the building, peeking around corners when they came upon a new hallway and keeping close together as to not be separated. It took a while until they spotted someone from the other team. Of course, with Izuku’s luck, that person just so happened to be Bakugou. He made a move as they came to a 3 way intersection within the hallway, trying to set off an explosion right where Izuku’s head was, but he luckily moved out of the way in time, but the shockwave blew off the left side of his mask and the ice wall he instinctively put up shattered. “Uraraka, are you alright?” he asked, concerned.

“Yeah, thanks.” She noticed the missing half of his mask and little scrapes all over his face and her face shifted to concern. “Deku?”

“It’s just a scratch.” That was thanks to the wall. It could have been a lot worse without it.

Bakugou cleared the cloud of smoke with his hand, an intimidating look on his face. “Come Deku, don’t dodge.”

“I figured you’d come for me first,” he said in lieu of a reply.

Bakugou began to run at them, ready to attack again. “I won’t do so much damage that this gets stopped, but I’m gonna get close!” Izuku ran at Bakugou at the same time, grabbing onto his arm and screaming as he flipped him to the ground.

“Wow! He’s like a martial arts master!” exclaimed Uraraka, a smile audible in her voice.

Bakugou sat up. “Kaachan, you usually start with a big right swing.” Izuku explained, panting as Bakugou was heavier than he appeared. “How much do you think I’ve been watching you? I wrote an analysis for all heroes I thought were amazing in my notebook. In the notebook you blew up and threw away.” He looked up at Bakugou. “My Deku isn’t going to mean useless. Kaachan, my Deku means ‘you can do it!’”

“Deku,” Kaachan said menacingly. “Even though you’re scared…” Explosions went off in his right hand as his temper rose. “That’s what I hate about you!”

Chapter Text

Bakugou advanced on Izuku, then stopped and stood still for a moment, pressing a hand to his ear. “Just shut up and defend,” Bakugou said, possibly talking to Iida. “I’m really angry right now!” He took his hand off the earpiece and began advancing.

He set off an explosion in his hand, moving forward, aiming a kick at Izuku. “Uraraka, go!” he called. He saw her run off in the opposite direction and out of the line of fire.

“Looking away? You must be sure of yourself!” Bakugou taunted as Izuku started to wind the capture tape around the leg Bakugou had lashed out with, copying their homeroom teacher’s own moves. He predicted that Bakugou would swing again with his right hand as he grew impatient, and low and behold, he did with an explosion ready, which Izuku dodged once again, putting up another ice wall which got unfortunately shattered. He saw Bakugou prepare to launch at him and ran away, in the opposite direction of Uraraka. “Come back here Deku!” called Bakugou from behind him. He disappeared into one of the many branching hallways before Bakugou could round the corner and kept running, trying to come up with a plan as he realized close combat wasn’t going to work anymore.

“Hey! You tricked me, didn’t you?!” he heard Bakugou call from somewhere in the maze of hallways. “Was it fun tricking me all this time?! Huh?! You’ve got a flashy Quirk there, don’t you?! Try and get me with it!” The sound of explosions going off in the distance reached Izuku’s ears. “Cause I’m better than you!”

Once Izuku figured he had gotten far away enough from Bakugou, he crouched, leaning against a wall to rest and catch his breath. He came up with a plan to win. It was obvious Bakugou and Iida weren’t working with each other, so all Izuku had to do was continue to avoid Bakugou and make it to where Iida and the bomb were and capture it with Uraraka’s help. That is, assuming he could beat Bakugou in the first place. He could, he was sure of it (not really). He just had to be careful of his palms.

“Where are you?!” he heard Bakugou yell. “You damn nerd!” Sorry Bakugou, but Izuku of the past lied when he said he wouldn’t compete with you, because that's what Izuku of the present was going to do.

“Deku,” Uraraka’s voice said through his earpiece.

“Uraraka, how’s it going?”

“Iida found me, sorry! Right how he’s--” she was cut off by what sounded like Iida evil laughing excessively.

“Where are you?”

“The middle of the fifth floor.”

“Almost directly above me!” Realizing that they were running out of time, Izuku stood, ready to make his way to the fifth floor and help out Uraraka, when he heard a noise behind him. He turned and saw Bakugou standing there with a frown on his face.

“They’re loaded,” he said in lieu of greeting.

“Kaachan,” Izuku said back.

“Why won’t you use your Quirk? Are you saying that you can win even if you don’t use it?” The frown turned into a grazed grin, an expression that didn’t belong on Bakugou’s face. “Are you underestimating me, Deku?”

Realizing he had no other choice, he turned and faced Bakugou, capture tape ready in his hands. “I’m not scared of you anymore!” he said, trying to be fearless.

Bakugou’s expression turned angry for a moment before he regained his cocky demeanor. He pointed the grenade shaped gauntlet on his right hand at Izuku. “With all your stalking, you probably already know, but my Quirk, Explosion, lets me secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat from the sweat glands of the palms of my hands and make it explode.” Of course Izuku already knew this. But, if Bakugou knew that he knew that, why was he restating it? The blonde pulled back the pin-like objects on his gauntlet, making a smaller pin appear and got into a stable stance. Izuku didn’t like where this was going. “If they made this the way that I asked, then these gauntlets will store the nitroglycerin inside the, and…” he cut off and began to pull out the pin slowly, the white hot of an explosion beginning to appear on the inside of the grenade.

“Young Bakugou, stop!” All Might’s voice said. “Are you trying to kill him?!”

“If I don’t hit him, he won’t die!” Bakugou refuted.

He pulled the pin out fully, causing a huge explosion to rock the hallway they were in, tearing up the concrete of the building. Izuku put his hand up to protect his face, another ice wall coming up in front of him, instinct taking over in the near death experience, and was pushed back by the force of the explosion, his wall again shattering even while being stronger than the previous two he had used. He landed on his back, panting heavily as he tried to regulate his breathing. “Young man! Young Midoriya!” he heard All Might’s voice call, unable to respond due to having basically no air in his lungs.

“Is that… even allowed?” Izuku asked himself as he finally regained his breath.

A laugh sounded in the smoke as Bakugou emerged from his destruction. “Wow… The more that’s stored in these gauntlets, the stronger the blast.” His left gauntlet made the same sound as the right before he used it. “Come on, use your Quirk, Deku…” Izuku sat, shaking with adrenaline and fear as Bakugou crouched to his face level, a crazed look in his eyes and an insane smile on his face. “I’ll force you to surrender even if you’re at full strength” When he saw that Izuku wasn’t going to move, he changed tactics. “Hey, hey. What’s wrong Deku? I didn’t hit you, so you can still move, can’t you? Come here and get me!” All Might’s voice came through the speakers littered through the building, interrupting and temporarily distracting Bakugou.
Izuku lifted a hand to his ear. “Uraraka! What’s the situation?”

“Deku!” Uraraka responded, sounding relieved. They came up with a plan as All Might scolded Bakugou for being rash, his voice dripping with disappointment and concern.

“Go to the pillar by the windows! Over and out!”

“Fine then!” Bakugou shouted, anger apparent in his words (like every single time he spoke). “Let’s fight it out with our fists!” Bakugou launched at him, ready to attack. Izuku took his stance and realized there was no hope even trying to dodge. He readied a counterattack and timed it so that he punched out what Bakugou was about to fire at him. What he didn’t expect was Bakugou to come up behind him, setting off an explosion into his back. Izuku yelled out in pain as the explosion hit. “Look, here I come! It’s your favorite right swing!” The swing hit his right elbow with a hardened hand and Izuku again cried out in pain. Bakugou grabbed onto his elbow, using his explosions to swing around. “Deku! You are below me!” He threw Izuku into the ground, similar to how Izuku did to Bakugou in the beginning of the fight. Izuku’s vision started growing blurry as he realized he wasn’t even being given time to think.

He had no other choice.

He ran to the wall of windows that Bakugou miraculously hadn’t blown up yet and stood in front of it as Bakugou advanced towards him. “Why won’t you use your Quirk? Are you underestimating me?!”

“No…”

“I swear you’ve been like this ever since we were kids… Have you been underestimating me since then, you bastard?!”

“That’s not it… You’re--You're an amazing person, so that’s why I want to beat you!” If possible, Bakugou became even angrier. “I want to win and surpass you, you idiot!”

“Don't look at me like that you damn nerd!” Explosions went off in Bakugou’s hands.

They began running at each other, each with the intention of winning. When they got close enough, Izuku activated One for All and Bakugou readied an explosion, both with their right hands.

“Both of you, sto--” All Might’s voice began.

“Let’s go Uraraka!”

“Okay!” her voice responded through his earpiece.

He and Bakugou got closer and he moved his fist to punch up at the ceiling, the wind pressure making it easier for Uraraka to lift the pillar he had specified while Bakugou set off his explosion with his right hand, Izuku blocking it, but burning his forearm in the process. They both fell to the ground on their feet as Iida’s shout of “the weapon!” echoed through the hole Izuku had made in the middle of the building.

“That’s what… From the start, you were… You are underestimating me, aren’t you?!” Bakugou was beyond enraged, failing in both his goals for the match.

“I wasn’t… going to use it…” Izuku said from where he stood, right fist raised. “Because I can’t use it… because my body can’t handle the impact…” He caught a glimpse of Bakugou’s surprised and angry face through his blurry vision. “Mr. Aizawa said so too… but… this was all… I could think… of…” He fell to the ground and passed out as All Might announced the hero team’s win.

Notes:

Also, I love Bakugou, but DAMN does this boy have anger issues... I guess I could attribute that to his mom, but it's just a lot. Some one get the boy a therapist...

Anyway, the school year is almost over so hopefully I'll be able to start writing the second season! I'm excited and nervous at the same time because, well... the second season is like double the episodes the first season is, but I'm excited for some Iida centric chapters with the Stain arc! I only just realized why his name is Stain... wow.

As always, ya'll are amazing and I love you all!

Chapter Text

The matches went on for the rest of the day, changing locations every time so the hero teams couldn’t get used to the building. After Team A and D’s destructive battle, Team B and I went against each other, Shoji and Shoto being the heroes and Ojiro and the girl whose name he was struggling to remember being the villains.

While Shoto had warmed up somewhat to his classmates, he was still cold to them, not considering them friends yet. Him and his teammate looked over the floor plan as the villain team set up, not saying much to each other and making sure they had all of their materials.

“Now, let’s start the second indoor person-to-person training match!” said All Might as a horn sounded.
Shoji went inside first, using his Original and Partner Quirks to scout out the other team. Shoto entered as a mouth appeared on the end of one of his arms. “One in the hall on the north side of the fourth floor. The other is somewhere on the same floor,” Shoji broke down. Shoto theorized the one with invisibility as their Original Quirk (Totoro?) was fully invisible. “They’re barefoot.” That proved his theory, then. “The invisible one is coming to ambush and capture us, huh?” said a different arm. Honestly, that was kind of creepy.

“Go outside. It’s dangerous,” Shoto said as he passed, feeling a little bad for being rude. “I’m sure our opponents intend to fight a defensive battle…” He activated his right side and put his hand on the wall, keeping his foot in place as ice streamed from both limbs. “... but it does not matter to me,” he finished his sentence and sent the ice to cover the whole building, including everything inside, as his teammate exited the building.

He made his way towards the room where Shoji had said the teammates were, ice making cracking sounds as he walked atop it. He found the room quickly, seeing Ojiro standing, his feet stuck in the ice, readying a fighting stance as he neared. “You can move if you want, but the skin on the bottom of your feet will come off so you won’t be at your best.” He passed the translucent man and made his way to the fake bomb, pressing his left hand against it.

“Hero team wins!” All Might announced.

He used his left side to the bare minimum, melting the ice with heat causing hot water to drip from the ceiling and walls, but no fire present, shocking his other classmates. “Sorry,” he offered. “The difference in our ability was too great.” He walked past the two, making his way out of the building and passing a shocked Shoji as he made his way to the observation room. He observed Bakugou from a distance, who still seemed mad he hadn’t won his match.

After being named the MVP for the match, the third match Teams (J and H) were sent to the third building and given time for preparations. Kirishima and Sero being the villains and Asui and Tokoyami being the heroes. The fourth match saw Teams G and C against each other, Momo, Mineta, and Suki being the villains and Jirou and Kaminari being the heroes. Mineta was extremely perverted, glancing at his teammates’ figures so often that both girls nearly hit him multiple times. The fourth match had Teams F and E with Sato and Koji (the latter seeming reluctant to fight) as the villains and
Mina and Aoyama as the heroes.

After all the matches had come to a conclusion, they were ushered to the exit door where they all congratulated each other on their matches, cheering up those who didn’t win. All Might blew a whistle, gathering all the student’s attention. “Good work everybody!” he praised. “We didn’t have any major injuries aside from Young Midoriya, either! You guys took this seriously! You all did a good job for your first training!”

“To have such a proper class after Mr. Aizawa’s class… is kind of anti-climactic,” confessed Asui, the class nodding along in agreement.

“We’re free to have proper classes, as well! Well then, I must review the results with Young Midoriya! Change and… return to the classroom!” he said as he sped away, his voice growing fainter as he got further away.

“All Might’s amazing!” Kaminari stated.

“Why is he in such a hurry?” observed Ojiro, who, in Shoto’s perspective, had a good point. Why was he in such a hurry?

“So cool,” the disgusting grape said.

~~~~~~
Izuku woke up in a comfortable bed with weird feelings in both his arms. When he opened his eyes, he noticed his left arm had an IV drip attached at the elbow and the right was encased in a cast. As he remembered what happened, he started to feel useless until he spotted a clock of the wall across from his bed. It was late afternoon already? That couldn’t be right, he was just at training! Recovery Girl’s kind face appeared above his suddenly enough to startle Izuku, flinching slightly where he lay. “Are you awake?” she asked kindly.
After another small check up, he was sent home, told to take it easy for the night to let his body rest and return to the office tomorrow.
He walked back to the classroom as the sun set, realizing he had missed all of his afternoon classes, becoming paranoid that his homeroom teacher would wrap him up in his scarf as he had done on the first day.
He got to the class and opened the door, not hearing the chatter from within as he was trapped in his thoughts. He was shocked out of them when he saw Kirishima look at him, having noticed the door open. “Oh, Midoriya’s here!” Izuku stood in shock for a moment. “Good work! Man, I don’t know what you were saying during the match, but you were fired up!”
“I can’t believe you fought evenly with Bakugou, who came in first during the entrance exam!” said Sero from where all his classmates had gathered around him.
“You did a good job dodging!” praised Mina.
“You guys did that in the first match, so we had to give it our all, too!” Sato added.
“You were far from elegant, but--”
“You did a good job dodging!” Mina repeated enthusiastically, interrupting Aoyama.
“We’re going over training right now!”
He pointed to each person gathered around the door, each introducing themselves even though he already knew from attendance that morning, the only extra thing he had to remember was calling Tsuyu ‘Tsu’ instead of her full name. Mineta even popped out of the crowd, and Izuku was told just how terribly he did during the training.
“Tokoyami!” Iida said, making Izuku turn towards him and his chopping motions. “That desk is not a chair. Get off immediately!”
“It’s not a big deal, is it?” Jirou rebutted, shocking Iida.
“What’s with those hands, anyway?” Ojiro asked, referring to his chopping motions.
“You people… I cannot condone the actions that disrespect the desks,” Iida said, doing the hand thing Ojiro had been asking about, “the great men and women who are now our upperclassmen once used!”
“You’re too loud,” Tokoyami said.
‘Iida never wavers, does he?’
Kaminari came through the other classroom door, Suki and Uraraka trailing after him. “So, Uraraka, you want to grab a bi--”
“Deku!” Suki shouted, interrupting Kaminari as she noticed him, making the other boy look discouraged.
“Wait, Deku, she didn’t heal your injuries?” Uraraka said, worried.
“Oh, it’s only because of how much stamina I have, and…” He looked over at Bakugou’s empty desk and trailed off. “More importantly, Uraraka…Where’s Kaachan?”
“We all tried to stop him, but he went home just now without saying anything.”
He ran through the school, hoping to catch Bakugou before he left the campus. He sped down the stairs, through hallways, and past classrooms, before he made it to the front entrance, where he saw Bakugou only a few yards past the threshold.
“Kaachan! Kaachan!”
With the second shout, he turned his head slightly. “What?” he said, shocking Izuku by how hostile his tone was.
Izuku hesitated. One for All was a secret not even his mom knew about. Was this really a wise idea? “There’s one thing I feel like I have to tell you. My Quirk is something I received from someone else."
“Huh?” Bakugou turned to him in disbelief, anger, and shock.
“I can’t say who I got it from, though! I won’t say… But it’s like a story out of comic books, except it’s true. On top of that, I still can't control it properly. It’s just a borrowed power I haven’t made my own yet. That’s why… I tried to beat you without using it. But in the end, I couldn’t win and had to rely on it. I’ve still got a long way to go, that’s why… One day, I will make this Quirk my own and beat you with my own power.” He looked up from where he had been looking at the pavement to see Bakugou shaking in anger. He was shocked at himself; he had just come to tell him it was not a trick and said all of that? What had come over him?
“What the hell was that? ‘Borrowed power?’ You’re talking nonsense. What are you trying to do, make me out to be a fool more than you already have? Huh? What are you trying to say? Today I lost to you, that’s all it was. As I watched the ice guy, I thought, ‘I can't beat him!’ Damn it! I ended up agreeing with what the ponytail girl said! Damn it!” Bakugou looked up at him and Izuku was surprised to see tears in his eyes. “Hey, you too, Deku, I’m just getting started! You hear?! Here, I will become number one!” Bakugou turned and began to walk away. “You won’t beat me again, you bastard!”
Izuku stood for a second, then nearly fainted as he lost his fearless persona.
“There he is!” said a voice from behind him. “Young Bakugou!” All Might ran up to Bakugou and put his hands on his shoulders. “Just so you know, pride is important! You definitely have the abilities needed to become a pro. You still have a lot of--”
“Let go of me, All Might. I can’t walk.” All Might looked down at Bakugou in surprise. “I’ll be the hero who surpasses even you without you telling me!”
“Huh? Oh, right.” All Might let go of Bakugou’s shoulders and he walked away.
As he walked away, All Might turned to Izuku. “Young Midoriya, what were you talking about with Young Bakugou?”
“Um, we were… uh.”
“Hm… I’m so curious, why don’t you tell me in detail?”
“Um, actually…” He told All Might about the conversation, apologizing profusely to the hero who simply asked him to never do it again.
Let me know if there's any grammar mistakes or inconsistencies!
Chapter Text
Izuku made his way to school the next day, reading up on All Might’s successes one the train, only to find the gates of U.A. being bombarded by the media as he tried to pass through unnoticed. “Hey, you!” one of the reporters said, getting in his face with a microphone. “How are All Might’s classes?”
“Um,” he stuttered as he tried to coke up with an excuse. “Excuse me, I have to go to the nurse’s office!” He ran away from the reporters and cameras and made his way to Recovery Girl’s office. As he walked back to class, a loud horn sounded and the famed ‘U.A. Barrier’ went up around the campus walls, keeping the reporters out. He got to class before the bell rang and took his seat, taking note that Bakugou was at his desk. He got distracted from his observations conversing with Uraraka, Iida, and Suki until class started, Suki telling the story of how she had to drag Iida away from the reporters when his statement to them got too long and boring, making the 2 not involved in the story laugh while Iida looked slightly embarrassed.
When the bell rang, everyone took their seats and their homeroom teacher entered the classroom. “Good work on yesterday’s combat training,” he unexpectedly praised. “I saw the videos and results. Bakugou,” the adressed student looked up, “you’re talented, so don’t act like a kid.”
“I know," the student replied snarkly.
“And Midoriya,” Izuku snapped his head up and looked towards the tired man. “You settled it by breaking your arm again, huh? You can’t keep saying you can’t help it because you can’t control your Quirk. I don’t like saying the same thing over and over. As long as you fix the control issue, there’s a lot you can do.” Izuku looked up at their teacher, smiling at the praise. “Feel a sense of urgency, Midoriya.”
“Yes, sir!”
He looked back towards the class. “Sorry about the late notice, but today I’ll have you…” The class sat in apprehension, praying it wasn’t another one of Mr. Aizawa’s tests. “…decide on a class representative.” The class deflated with relief. Finally, a normal school activity for once!
“I want to be class rep. Pick me!” shouted Kirishima.
“Me too!” Kaminari said.
“I would like to do it too,” Jirou said.
“It’s a job made for m--”
“I’ll be the leader!” Mina interrupted.
“My manifesto is that girls’ skirts be 30 cm above the knee!” said the short pervert sitting behind him, who Izuku was beginning to not like. [A/N: for some reason I have just refused to type ‘Mineta.’ I couldn’t possible conceive why]
The classroom was chaos, everyone giving reasons as to why they should be class rep.
“Silence, please!” Iida yelled. “It is a job with the serious responsibility of leading others! It is not a job for just anyone who wants to do it. It is a calling that requires the trust of those around you. If we want to use democracy to decide the leader, then we should hold an election to choose one!” he suggested, even though his hand was raised the highest.
“Why did you suggest that?” Kaminari asked.
“We haven’t known each other for that long, so how can we have trust or anything?” Asui pointed out.
“If that’s the case, then everyone will just vote for themselves…” Kirishima agreed.
“Don’t you think that’s precisely why whoever receives multiple votes here can truly be considered the person most suitable?” He turned to Mr. Aizawa who had slipped into a yellow sleeping bag and zipped it up. “What do you think, Mr. Aizawa?”
“I don’t care as long as you decide before homeroom is over.” He plopped down on the floor and went to presumably sleep.
“Thank you very much!” Iida responded.
They voted, and at the end, Momo had 2 while Izuku had 3, much to his surprise. He didn’t think anyone other than himself would vote for, well… him. “I got 3 votes?” he said in shock.
“Why Deku? Who voted for him?!” shouted Bakugou in anger.
“Well it’s better than voting for you,” Sero answered, making a couple students laugh into their hands.
“What did you say?!” Bakugou shouted.
Eventually, Mr. Aizawa woke from his nap and announced the winners. “Then, the class rep will be Midoriya, and the deputy class rep will be Yaoyorozu.”
“S-S-Seriously?!” Izuku said in surprise.
“How vexing…” Momo replied with a thoughtful look.
“That might not be too bad,” Asui observed.
“After all that’s said and done, Midoriya can be pretty fired up anyway,” Kirishima complemented(?). “And Yaoyorozu was pretty cool when we were going over battle results!”
After the elections, they had their morning classes which went by pretty uneventfully.
When the bell rang for lunch, the students piled out of the classroom and into the hallway, racing to the already packed cafeteria.
“Wow, there’s a lot of people here today!” Uraraka observed.
“That’s because everyone in the hero course, support course, and management course meet in the same place,” Iida explained to her.
They each went to a different counter, paying for the food they wanted before sitting down and starting their meals. “The rice is so delicious!” Uraraka commented.
Izuku stared at his food, not yet eating. “Even though I’ve been selected as class rep, I don’t know if I'm qualified for it.
“You are,” Suki and Uraraka reassured.
“It’ll be fine,” Iida comforted. “Your courage and judgement in critical moments make you worth following. That’s why I voted for you.”
“That was you?!” Izuku said in shock.
“But didn’t you want to be class rep too, Iida?” Uraraka pointed out. “I mean, you’ve got glasses and everything.”
“Wanting to do it and being suitable for it are 2 different issues. I merely did what I judged to be correct.”
“Merely?” Uraraka and Izuku said in shock.
“You don’t usually use that word,” Suki pointed out with a teasing smirk before shoveling another spoonful of rice into her mouth. Iida stuttered for a moment, looking for a response to the jap but coming up empty handed.
“I’ve been thinking, are you a rich boy, Iida?” Uraraka said, making Iida become flustered as Suki snickered around the rice in her mouth.
“I tried to change how I talk because I didn’t want to be called that.” Iida explained with a slight sigh. Izuku and Uraraka looked on in amazement as Suki just continued eating, stuffing yet another spoonful of rice into her mouth. “Yes, my family have been heroes for generations. I’m the second son.”
“What?! Wow!” said the two.
“You know the turbo hero, Ingenium?”
“Of course!” Izuku responded enthusiastically. “He’s a really popular hero who has 65 sidekicks working at his agency in Tokyo!” Realization hit Izuku like a bus - nope, scratch that - like a tanker going well over the speed limit. His eyes widened and his mouth fell open. “Don’t tell me…”
“He’s my elder brother!” Iida said proudly.
“He’s also really nice in real life!” Suki said, only to be ignored.
“He’s telling us straight out!” Uraraka said in awe.
“That’s amazing!” Izuku said with the same enthusiasm as Uraraka.
“He is a likeable hero who honors the rules and leads people. I set my sights on becoming a hero because I want to be like my brother. However, I think it is too soon for me to lead others. Unlike me, Midoriya realized the point of the practical portion of the entrance exam. So, he is most suitable for the job.” He looked up at the two, shocked when he saw their full attention was on him.
“This might be the first time I’ve seen you smile, Iida!” Uraraka observed.
“What, really? I smile!” Iida protested.
“Yes, but not often,” Suki said, teasing smirk back on her face, causing Iida to almost pout.
“About the entrance exam…” Izuku started, planning to tell him he didn’t notice anything when a loud alarm rang throughout the whole school, making everyone pause their conversations and look around the room.
“There has been a level 3 security breach,” said an automated voice, the upperclassmens’ faces turning shocked and worried. “All students, please evacuate outside promptly.”
“What’s ‘level 3 security’?” Iida asked the upperclassmen sitting beside him.
“It means someone’s trespassing on the school grounds!” the student answered. “I’ve never seen anything like this in the 3 years I’ve been here. You should hurry, too!” Then promptly ran towards the exit, following an ever growing crowd of people. The four looked at each other before doing the same.
They entered the hallway leading to the exit, but were quickly surrounded on all sides and smushed together by panicking students, everyone pushing each other and others getting smushed face first into walls as they all scurried to make it out of the building at the same time.
“Ow…” Uraraka says as multiple people bump into her. “What’s going on all of the sudden?”
“As expected of the best of the best! People react quickly in a crisis!” Iida says in admiration, voice straining as he gets pushed around.
“They’re so quick it’s causing a panic!” Izuku says in response. “Oh, shoot!” He and Suki get pulled away from their friends by pushing students.
“Midoriya/Deku! Suki!” Iida and Uraraka said simultaneously (Iida being more enthusiastic when it came to his soulmate).
Iida makes his way to the window, wanting to see who trespassed on the grounds, causing this chaos. When he got to the window, he was shocked to see it was the press that caused the panic. Damn reporters. “Everyone, calm dow--” He got cut off as someone pushed his cheek into the window.
“Everyone, stop! Slow down! Slow down!” said Kaminari and Kirishima, following Iida’s lead and trying to stand their ground and slow the ever growing crowd of students, only to get swept away by the panicking mob (one person however slowing down as they responded to the two first years, however snapping out of it quickly).
Uraraka’s scream sounded from somewhere close to him, and he turned in that direction, still pressed against the window. “Uraraka!” he shouted once he saw her.
“Iida!” she shouted back.
He moved towards her, keeping close to the window so as to not get lost in the chaos. He came up with a plan as he moved closer little by little. “Uraraka!” He reached her and held out his hand, much to her confusion. “Make me float, Uraraka!” She reached her hand towards his and swiped at it, missing the first time and connecting the second.
He floated above the crowd, losing his glasses in the process as he looked for a place to deliver his message. He spotted an exit sign above the large doorway and pulled up the bottoms of his pants to activate his engines when he felt himself get pushed prematurely. He looked around and saw Suki, her arms outstretched and glasses sitting atop her head, seemingly pulling him towards her and her position directly under the exit sign. When he got close enough for them to be audible to each other, he shouted, “Push me towards the sign! I need to get on top of it!” She looked at him with confusion apparent on her face, but did as he asked anyway and pushed him towards the sign where he stood, right hand holding onto the pipe above his head in order to maintain balance.
“Everyone, everything’s fine!” Iida shouted, causing everyone to look at him, Izuku in awe of his plan. “It’s just the media! There is nothing to panic about. Everything’s fine! This is U.A.! Let us act in a way befitting the best of the best!” Everyone began calming down, even more of their tension releasing as police sirens sounded from outside. Izuku watched as Suki got Iida down using her Quirk and made his way over to them, Uraraka on his heels as she released Iida from her Quirk.
They made their way back to class after the teachers gave the all clear where they were to decide the other class officers. Mr. Aizawa called him and Momo to the front of the class to begin, much to Izuku’s dread; he wasn’t very good with public speaking. “Come on, class rep. Start,” Momo prompted.
“N-Now let us decide the other class officers…” Izuku said anxiously. “But first, can I say something?” Momo looked at him with a confused noise, but nodded regardless. “I think… that Tenya Iida should be class rep, after all! He was able to get everyone’s attention in such a cool way. I think it would be best for Iida to do it.” Iida looked at him, appreciation and mild surprise visible in his eyes.
“I’m good with that, too,” Kirishima agreed. “Midoriya’s saying it and it’s true that Iida was a big help at the cafeteria today.”
“Yeah, he looked like the kind of person on the exit signs, didn’t he?” Kaminari said, also agreeing with Izuku.
“You’re wasting time,” the (previously) sleeping man interrupted, causing half of the class to jump out of their seats. “I don’t care what you do, just hurry up and do it.”
Iida stood. “If the class rep had nominated me, then it cannot be helped. From this day forth, I, Tenya Iida, promise to do my best to carry out the duties of class representative.”
“We’re counting on you, Emergency Exit!” said Kirishima, teasing him with the nickname though it made Iida smile.
Iida sat after the other roles were decided and Mr. Aizawa took his place at the podium. “For today’s Hero Basic Training, it’s turned into a class with three instructors, All Might me, and one more person.” [sorry for the strange grammar of that sentence, it’s just what the subs said he was saying.]
The students made sounds of confusion. “Excuse me! What’ll we be doing?” Sero asked after a couple seconds of silence, startling some of the students around him.
Mr. Aizawa produced a white flash card with the word ‘rescue’ printed on it from somewhere on his person. “Disasters, shipwrecks, and everything in between. It’s rescue training.”
The whole class made noises of excitement. Rescue training. That sounded fun!
“Hey, I'm not done,” the tired man at the front of the room interrupted. “You can decide if you want to wear your costume or not this time.” He pushed a button on a remote in his hand and some of the spots in the wall ejected to reveal their costumes. “Because there are probably costumes that limit your abilities, too. The training will be taking place off-campus so we’re taking a bus. That is all. Start getting ready.”
The students grabbed their respective costumes and went down to the locker rooms to change, everyone once again complimenting each other’s costumes. As they made their way to the front of the building, a bus pulled up, but the door did not yet open, waiting for every student to exit the main school building
“Deku! Oh, you’re wearing your P.E. clothes,” Uraraka said as she noticed what he was wearing.
“They got ripped up during combat training, so I’m waiting for the support company to fix it,” he explained.
Iida blew the whistle he was given by Mr. Aizawa. “Class 1-A gather round! Form 2 lines by your student numbers in order to make boarding the bus go smoothly!”
They made their way onto the bus, but Iida’s plan was derailed when he noticed the bus had an open concept, so everyone pretty much sat wherever they wanted. Iida sat down and immediately started sulking that his boarding strategy didn’t pan out while the other students quietly laughed to themselves. Suki sat down next to Iida, placing a hand on his shoulder as she comforted him, seemingly holding back even more laughter.
“I say whatever comes to mind. Midoriya,” Asui said to him suddenly, making him tune back into the conversation at hand.
“Yes, Asui?” he replied, slightly panicked.
“Call me ‘Tsu’.”
“R-Right.”
“Your Quirk is like All Might’s.”
“Y-Y-You think so?” he said, even more panicked than before. “But I’m, uh…”
“Wait a sec, Tsu, All Might doesn’t get hurt when he uses his. They just kind of look the same.” Izuku breathed a sigh of relief, mentally thanking and praising Kirishima. “But it’s nice having a simple augmenting type Quirk. You can do lots of flashy stuff! My hardening’s good against others, but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like much. My explosion Quirk on the other hand is a pretty manly one, pretty glad I got it from my soulmate.” Izuku noted the quick glances he kept making in Bakugou’s direction, the blonde seemingly wholly uninterested in the red head.
“I think it’s cool!” Izuku reassured. “It’s a Quirk that you can definitely pass as a pro’s!”
“A pro’s huh? But you have to think about popularity as a hero, too, you know.”
“My navel-laser is pro-level in both flashiness and strength,” Aoyama boasted.
“But it’s not great that it gives you a stomachache,” added Mina, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder, the comment making him deflate slightly.
“Well, if you’re talking about flashy and strong, it’s gotta be Todoroki or Bakugou, huh?” Bakugou looked over and scoffed, then continued looking out the window as Todoroki kept his eyes closed, seemingly asleep (or, most likely, just ignoring them- wait, was he turned slightly in Izuku’s direction?).
“Bakugou’s always mad, so he doesn’t seem like he’ll be popular, though,” Asui said, shocking Izuku and making Bakugou mad.
“What the hell! You wanna fight!” Bakugou stood, jostling Jirou, who had been seated next to him, in the process, an annoyed look crossing her face.
“See?” Asui said, pointing at him and proving her point.
“We haven’t known each other for that long, so it’s amazing that everyone knows his personality is already crap seeped in sewage,” Kaminari added, seemingly fearless in Izuku’s opinion.
“What’s with that vocabulary, bastard?! I’ll kill you!” Izuku sat in shock at the fact that it wasn’t him, but Bakugou getting teased for once by his classmates. U.A. was definitely something different.
“We’re here. Stop messing around,” their teacher announced, stopping Bakugou’s stream of curses at Kaminari who kept moving out of range of Bakugou’s hands.
They got to the big dome like structure where a person in what looked like a spacesuit waited by the doors. “Everyone, I have been waiting for you,” said the Space Hero, 13.
The class made noises of excitement, Suki and Uraraka fangirling beside him, practically vibrating where they stood. “Let’s go inside without delay.”
“Looking forward to working with you!” the class responded with varying levels of excitement.
They walked up the stairs and through the enormous blue double doors into the massive building. Inside, there were different bubbles of color; the whole thing looked like Universal Studios Japan. “Shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, etc. It is a training ground I made with different types of accidents and disasters. It’s called the ‘Unforeseen Simulation Joint,’ or USJ for short.” Huh, so it is like the USJ.
“13, where’s All Might? He said he would meet us here,” Mr. Aizawa said, getting closer to 13 so not the whole class heard.
“About that, it looks like he did too much hero work on the way here and ran out of time,” the hero said, holding up 3 fingers. “So, he’s resting in the lounge.”
“That’s the height of irrationality. It can’t be helped. Shall we begin?”
The class turned their attention towards 13. “Let’s see… Before we begin, let me say 1… er, 2, or 3… or… 4… 5… 6… 7…” the class became dejected as the number kept increasing. “Everyone, I am sure you are aware of my Quirk, Black Hole. I can suck up anything and turn it to dust.”
“You’ve been able to use that Quirk to save people from all kinds of disasters, right?” said Izuku excitedly.
“Yes, but it is a power that can kill easily.” The class made a noise of surprise. “Some of you also have Quirks like that, right? In a superhuman society, personal Quirks have been certified and stringently regulated, so that doesn’t seem to be a problem at first glance. However, please do not forget that there are many Quirks that can easily kill with one wrong step. With Aizawa’s physical fitness test, you found out the possibilities of your own hidden powers, and with All Might’s person-to-person combat training, I think you experienced the danger of others using their powers against others. This class is a fresh start. You shall learn how to use your Quirks to save people’s lives. You do not have powers so that you can harm others. That was all. Thank you for listening,” the space hero finished with a bow.
The class cheered, complementing 13 on the wonderful speech.
“All right. Then first--” Electricity danced over the lights, making them go out and interrupting Aizawa. “Gather together and don’t move!” The students looked away from the lights and towards their teacher. “13, protect the students!”
“What’s that?” Kirishima asked, making all of the students look at the black mass in front of the fountain where a… man was standing? People with many different Quirks started pouring out of the mass, dozens at a time. “Is this like the entrance exam where the lesson’s already started?”
Izuku took a step forward. “Don’t move!” their teacher said, his tone no longer sleepy, but completely serious. The man put on his yellow goggles, making Izuku nervous. The man had never done that in front of them before. “Those are villains.” The students made different noises of surprise and concern as more and more villains came out of the mass.
It was then they realized, they wouldn’t be rescuing others, they would have to be rescuing themselves.
Notes:
And the USJ arc begins! Man, was this one a bitch to edit. Made myself cringe a couple of times tbh. Also, does anyone know what 13's pronouns are? I had no idea so I tried to avoid them but one like was increasingly difficult to write because I didn't have the right words to word with
Anyway, fun fact, I used to not like Momo. I know, sacrilege, but it's true. I thought she was pretty rude but DAMN am I glad I was proven wrong; she's now one of my favorite characters, don't worry :)
Love all of you!
~Moose<3
P.S. there was a hint to Kaminari's soulmate in this chapter did you catch it?
P.P.S. this is also the longest chapter to date (edited and unedited) with 3666 words. pretty pogchamp tbh (tell me your youtube/twitch history without telling me your recent youtube/twitch history lol)
Chapter Text
“The trespassing the other day was the work of these scumbags after all, huh?” Mr. Aizawa deducted, assessing the villains and their Quirks. He grabbed onto his scarf, which moved out into a tentacle-like form surrounding his body.
“What? Villains? There’s no way they could get into a hero school!” Kirishima exclaimed.
“Mr. Aizawa, what about the trespasser sensors?” Momo asked, surprisingly calm.
“We definitely have them… but…” 13 trailed off.
“Did they only appear here, or around the whole school?” Shoto observed. “Either way, if the sensors are not responding, that means they have someone with a Quirk that can do that. An isolated area separated from the main campus during a time when a class was supposed to be here. They might be fools, but they’re not dumb. This surprise attack was carefully planned with some sort of goal in mind.” The class became even more unsettled, not really comforted by his observations.
“13, start the evacuation. Try calling the school,” Mr. Aizawa ordered. “These villains even had something to counteract the sensors. It’s possible someone with a radio-waves-type power is interfering. Kaminari, you try contacting the school with your Quirk, too.”
“Yessir,” Kaminari said, putting a hand to the ear communicator on his right ear.
“What about you, sir? Will you fight by yourself?” Izuku asked, concerned for his teacher. “With that many, even if you can erase their Quirks… EraserHead’s style is capturing after erasing the enemy’s Quirk. A frontal battle is…”
“You can't be a hero with just one trick,” the hero said, turning to Izuku. “13, I’m leaving it to you.” He ran at the villains. Izuku watched as he took down 3 villains with minimal effort after erasing their Quirks. He punched another, bigger one with 4 arms and a blue, rock like body, swinging him around with his capture weapon and dodging a punch by another villain, kicking him towards two other villains, the large blue one landing on top of the 3.
Izuku stood in amazement at their teachers' abilities as the rest of the class rushed towards the door to the facility. “This is no time for analysis!” Iida shouted. “Hurry up and take shelter!” Suki ran to him and grabbed his arm, dragging him away from the battle and towards the door, Iida slightly ahead of them.
The black mass suddenly appeared in front of them, seemingly coming out of the ground. “I won’t let you,” it said. “Nice to meet you. We are the League of Villains. It may be presumptuous of us, but we have invited ourselves into the home of the heroes, U.A. High School, in order to have the symbol of peace, All Might, take his last breath.” The class became slightly confused. They wanted to kill All Might? Why? “I believe All Might should have been here, has there been some kind of change? Well, that is neither here nor there. This is the part I am to play.”
Bakugou and Kirishima launched themselves at the villain with a shout, attempting to take him down. Both had an explosion ready in one hand and a hardened limb as the other. The explosions went off, causing smoke to envelop the group. “Did you consider that you’d get beaten by us before you did it?” Kirishima said, seemingly having spent too much time with Bakugou.
The smoke cleared from around the group slightly and Izuku could see the villain through what was left. He stood in shock for a moment, surprised that the explosion had done nothing to the villain. “Oh dear, that’s dangerous. That’s right. Even if you are students, you are excellent golden eggs.”
“No. Move away you two!” shouted 13.
“My job is to scatter you all and torture you to death!” The black mass surrounded the class, making it difficult to see and stay standing with the force pushing on them.
Izuku closed his eyes for a moment and reopened them to a feeling of weightlessness before wind rushing into his face took over and a sizable body of water steadily grew larger underneath him. He screamed for a moment before clearing his head of panic enough to take a large breath of air, readying himself as he crashed into the surface. Swimming towards the surface with a clearer head on account of the cold water, he realized that the villain’s Quirk must have been something similar to a warp. He was close enough to the surface that he would see some details of the roof when a villain that looked similar to a shark came out of nowhere, causing Izuku to scream and lose the air he had been holding. The villain opened his mouth as he got closer, probably to eat him, when Asui, also coming out of seemingly nowhere, landed on the villain’s cheek, moving his mouth away from Izuku. “Midoriya!” she exclaimed. She wrapped him in her tongue and jumped off the villain like a, well,
frog, sending him deeper into the water where he was no longer a threat, for the time being that is.
He landed on the boat, her tongue letting him go when he touched solid land, he caught his breath and watched as Mineta [A/N: oh, so I did type his name a couple of times. Tbh I wasn’t sure if I had or not] was deposited less gently on the boat (probably deserving it), Asui following soon afterwards. “Thanks, Asui,” Izuku said in gratitude.
“Call me ‘Tsu’,” she replied.
“T-Tsu, thanks!” he stuttered, embarrassed having forgotten to call her the correct name again.
“This has turned into a bad situation, though.”
“Yeah. What the villain said earlier… They knew U.A.’s schedule! Looking at the big picture, those guys must have set up the media intrusion the other day to get information. They were waiting to
pounce, just as Shoto said.”
“But, but--It’s not like they can kill All Might!” Mineta said. “Once All Might comes, he’ll pound those guys!”
“Mineta,” Tsu interrupted. “Don’t you think they’re trying so hard because they have a way to kill him? Guys that strong said they would torture us to death, you know.” [A/N: again, sorry about the grammar here, this is what the subs said.] Mineta stood silent in fear as she continued to speak. “I wonder if we’ll be able to hold out until All Might arrives… Even if All Might comes, I wonder if we’ll make it out in one piece…”
“M-M-Midoriya! What the heck is that?!” Mineta complains, seeming extremely afraid.
“You bastard, I’ll kill you!” said a voice in the water. They turned and saw multiple villains in the water, surrounding the boat and their escape.
“AHHHH! There’s a ton of them!”
“If those guys…” Tsu and Mineta turned back towards him, “have a way to defeat All Might, then right now, we should be stopping whatever they’re planning. By fighting and winning!”
“What do you mean fight?! Are you stupid?! These guys might kill All Might, right? You’re contradicting yourself, Midoriya! The best plan would be to sit tight and wait for the U.A. heroes to come and save us, of course!”
“Mineta, those guys down there are clearly assuming we’ll fight in the water, right?”
“Are you ignoring me?!”
“Does that mean they knew what the facilities were before they gathered people?” Tsu observed.
“Yeah. For people who gathered information so meticulously, there’s something strange. They sent you, Tsu, to the shipwreck zone.”
“What about it?!”
“This means, in other words, that the villains probably don’t know what our Quirks are.”
“That’s true. If they knew I was a frog, then they probably would have sent me to that fire zone, over there.”
“They probably separated us because they didn’t know our Quirks. So, they planned to overpower us with numbers. We have inferior numbers and less experience; our only hope lies in the fact our opponents have no idea what our Quirks are.” He paused for a second before realising something. “The enemy isn’t trying to climb the boat, that supports my hypothesis! But that probably means they aren’t underestimating us, either.”
“I’ll tell you more about my Quirk,” Tsu offered. At his nod, she elaborated, “I can jump high, stick to walls, and stick my tongue out to about 20 meters. I can also spit on my stomach and wash it and secrete toxic mucus that actually just sting a little. The last 2 are pretty useless, so you can probably forget about them. My Partner Quirk is the same as Uraraka’s Original one, though I’m not entirely sure how it’ll help here.”
“I already kind of knew, but you’re really strong. I have strength, but once I use it, I’m pretty much out of commission. It’s like a double-edged sword. My Partner Quirk seems to be the same as Todoroki’s, the only thing I could possibly do is freeze the water, but I don’t see how that’ll work. They’ll just break out of it if they’re already partly out of the water.”
“My Quirk lets these stick super tight. Depending on how I’m feeling, they can even stick the whole day. They grow back after I pull them off. But if I pull off too much, I end up bleeding. They don’t stick to me; they just bounce off.” Izuku stared at Mineta, expecting more to come out of his Quirk, or for him to have an awesome Partner Quirk of some kind, but for a few moments, there was nothing but silence. “That’s why I said we should just wait quietly! My Quirk is totally unfit for battle!”
“Th-That’s not it!” It kind of was, but Izuku wasn’t going to say that out loud, in front of Mineta no less. “It’s an amazing Quirk, so we should think of a way to use it--” A large water hand smashed into the boat, splitting it in two.
“I’m getting impatient. Let’s end this quickly!”
“What power… The ship’s broken,” Tsu said matter of factly, still surprisingly calm.
Mineta ran over to the railing of the ship. “You can’t give up!” Izuku encouraged. He started throwing his balls off the side, screaming in fear. “What are you doing?!” Izuku looked over the side. “The enemy will figure out your Quirk--”
The villains were trying to get the purple balls away from them without touching them, scared as they didn’t know what the balls could do.
“That’s true…” Mineta said, still afraid.
“Mineta, did you really enter U.A. to become a hero?”
“Shut up! It’s weirder not to be scared right now! We were only in junior high a little while ago! Who thought we would be almost killed right after starting school?! I wish I could have at least touched Yaoyorozu’s boobs first!” Izuku brushed off the last comment, still disgusted by the small grape.
“When the enemy becomes certain of victory, that will be our chance. All Might said so before on TV,” Izuku said.
“What...?”
“This is the only way… to win!” He turned and looked back at the other two students. He put one foot on the railing and screamed like Bakugou.
“You’re serious, Midoriya?!” Mineta shouted as Izuku jumped off the boat.
“Die!” he screamed at the villains, channeling his former friend. He put his left arm out in front of him, his thumb and middle finger ready to strike. He activated One for All in those 2 fingers. “Delaware
smash!” He made a motion as though flicking a fly, breaking his glove, and causing the wind pressure to move the water and propel him back into the air. “Tsu, Mineta!” he felt her tongue wrap around his waist.
He heard Mineta scream and watched as he threw his purple balls into the water, making the villains stick together as they were dragged underwater by the current after which, Izuku shot ice at the water to freeze a box around the area where the villains went under. The villains, for them at least, were out of commission.
Notes:
I have nothing so say really except Mineta can go to hell. Thank you and good night/day.
“I had a bowel movement this morning, so those things will stick all day!” Mineta said as he was dragged by Tsu out of the deep part of the water.
“We were lucky that was all of them,” Izuku admitted, his fingers hurting, most definitely sprained. “I took a huge gamble. Normally, they would’ve kept some people underwater in reserve. I was trying to keep my composure, but I couldn’t stay calm--”
“Midoriya, stop that. It’s scary,” Tsu said, interrupting Izuku’s muttering. He really had to get a hold on that. “Rather than reflecting back, shouldn’t we think about what to do next?”
“You’re right. We should make getting help our top priority. It would be best to follow the shore and avoid the plaza as we head towards the exit.”
“That’s true. Mr. Aizawa has drawn a large number of villains to the plaza.” As if to prove her point, shouts and clouds of dust emerged from where their teacher was fighting the villains, just barely visible to their eyes. A loud shout followed soon after; huh, did someone in the crowd have a Quirk similar to Present Mic?
“Of course, Mr. Aizawa is trying to suppress them… but I think he overexerted himself by jumping into that crowd of villains to protect us,” Izuku said, causing his companions to look over at him.
“Wait, Midoriya, don’t tell me you…” Mineta said, concerned they were going to fight again. “Stupid, stupid, stupid!”
“I’m not thinking of doing anything that’ll get in his way,” Izuku reassured. “But if we can just find an opening and lessen Mr. Aizawa’s load, even a little…”
They swam towards where the said man was fighting, keeping as low as possible as to not be seen and dragged into the fight, making Mr. Aizawa focus on more things besides defeating the large group of villains and staying alive. “Hey, Midoriya, we’re just here to see how things are going, okay?”
“I know. We’ll run away the instant something seems dangerous.”
They watched as Mr. Aizawa took out multiple villains, a good number already down for the count. He used his capture weapon to swing above the villains and restrain them, knocking them out with brute force, a loud noise coming from his direction every little so often. No, he couldn’t be… unless…
A creepy looking villain with hands attached to his whole upper body and dressed completely in black rushed at their teacher, attempting to attack. The hero smashed his elbow into the villain’s chest, they brightened as he took out-- the villain had grabbed onto Mr. Aizawa’s elbow, holding it just centimeters away from his chest where it would have hit. The students watched in shock as his elbow started to crumble, first his jumpsuit, then his skin, the muscles in his elbow becoming visible as the layers above turned seemingly into dust.
He pushed away from the villain, the skin around the visible muscle cracked as if it was an old stone building. He took down one villain only to be surrounded by 3 more, outnumbered and at a disadvantage. He looked at the black clothed villain, who appeared to be saying something before taking out the 3 lesser villains, using their own Quirks against them. He turned back to the hand villain; Quirk active as a large monster approached behind him. Its brain was visible, eyes going almost directly into its brain, it’s skin an extremely dark purple with red gashes scattered all over; it also had a bird-like beak with razor sharp teeth lining the inside of its mouth. The villain said something the students couldn’t hear, and the hero turned to look at it before the monster attacked, ripping off his glasses, cracking them in half and causing blood to fly through the air.
The students stood in shock as they watched their teacher get pummeled, head smashed into the ground over and over again. When the monster finally finished, it held Mr. Aizawa up (sort of) by his right forearm, the other hand forcing his left shoulder into the ground. It then roared, sounding like a dying animal.
It broke the man’s right arm, red liquid sliding from his elbow, to his finger, and, finally, the floor. The villain continued to stand there, seemingly talking to their teacher with words they couldn’t hear.
It broke his other arm as Aizawa used his Quirk, seemingly trying to prevent that outcome. It picked up his head and slammed his face into the ground.
“M-M-Midoriya I can’t take it anymore,” Mineta said, his voice shaking in fear and muffled from where his hands were pressing over it. “I’m sure you must be having second thoughts too, right?” Izuku just continued to stand in shock, unable to move or do anything other than stare.
The warp villain appeared beside the main one. They seemed to have a small conversation based on the unintelligible talking sounds that were audible from their position. The warp villain must have said something to upset the black clothed man, as he started to scratch at his neck; they also caught the tail end of his sentence. “… crushed you to pieces.” The voice was raspy, barely audible even with the raised voice. It was also angry, so something definitely happened they didn’t plan for. “… let’s go home,” said the voice again, still barely audible, but clear enough.
“They’re going home?” Mineta asked hopefully. “Did he say they’re going home?”
“That’s what I heard,” Tsu responded.
“All right! We’re saved!” Mineta said, joyfully.
“Yes, but…” Tsu trailed off, sounding a bit uncomfortable; Izuku didn’t have to turn to figure out what was happening. He heard a splash and the sounds of someone struggling underwater. “I have a bad feeling about this, Midoriya.”
“Yeah. For them to simply retreat after doing all this…”
The villain stilled for a moment, then rushed over to the water’s edge before anyone could react. “…as the symbol of peace!” His hand reached towards Tsu’s head and Izuku had a flashback of what happened to their teacher’s elbow. She would turn to dust. He turned and seemingly moved with the hand, watching as it got closer and closer to his classmate’s head. Mineta, who had surfaced at this point, was watching in identical horror as the villain touched Tsu’s head. Nothing happened for a few seconds before the villain sighed. “Damn it. You really are so cool… EraserHead.” Izuku looked past the villain and saw Aizawa with his head up, eyes glowing red and hair floating as he stared at the villain in front of him. He also watched as the monster slammed his teacher’s already bloody face back into the ground.
Izuku jumped out of the water, One for All activating in his right arm as he charged at the villain that had tried to turn his classmate to dust. “Let go of her!” His punch caused a shockwave wave to form, the remaining villains on their feet falling over, and shaking the building so hard, the glass from every single light in the USJ shattered. After a second, he realized his arm wasn’t sprained, it didn’t hurt even a little bit! Had he found a way to control it? He looked up with a slight smile only for it to be wiped away when he found the monster standing there. It didn’t even look like his smash had any effect at all! He pulled his fist away as he realized what this thing was meant to do. This was the thing that they had to kill All Might. It wasn’t a device or group of people, it was this; this monster was meant to be All Might’s doom.
“You move well,” the villain complimented. “Your ‘smash’—are you a follower of All Might’s? Oh well, I’m done with you.” The monster grabbed his arm and used it’s other to ready a strike; not to maim, but to kill. He watched out of his periphery as Tsu pushed the villain’s arm away, attempting to grab him with her tongue, only for him to reach out to both her and Mineta, not planning on letting either live.
The door to the building exploded open, causing both villains to stop in their tracks leaving a space for Tsu to grab him out of the monster’s grip to relative safety. Out of the dust cloud, they heard loud footsteps and a stomp before the person spoke. “It’s fine now.” Izuku’s chest swelled with hope and a dumb grin spread across his face. “I am here!” All Might didn’t have his usual smile, a frown replacing the usually joyous look he had with one of pure rage, causing the still conscious villains that could see All Might to find a place to hide.
“All Might!” Mineta shouted in joy. The man in question threw away the jacket he had been holding.
“All… Might…” Izuku repeated in fascination, grin still decorating his face.
“Oh, we’re getting a ‘continue’…” said the villain as he looked at the symbol for peace.
Notes:
Also, have I said I hate Mineta? I need to find a way to get rid of him... please leave suggestions!
(P.S. They don't know who Shigaraki is if that wasn't obvious)
(P.P.S. No, he will not use his Partner Quirk yet... at least not that I've planned)
Edit: I didn't plan on focusing on EraserMic so much initially, but I'm going to because conspiracy theorist Todoroki needs to appear at some point in this series (is that canon, or something people have brought up so much that I think it's canon?)
Chapter 12: Episode 12: All Might
Episode 12!! Woopee!! Anyway, as an apology for not being able to post a little while ago, here you go!!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Izuku watched as the hero made his way into the facility, seemingly saying something Izuku couldn’t hear from such a distance. He ripped off his tie, his mouth still turned down into a furious frown instead of a hopeful smile. The hero threw his jacket to the side as none of the villains moved to attack, fear and awe of the Number One Hero influencing their desicions. He jumped and, like the speed of light, he made it over to a villain that seemed to be giving orders, punching the man in the face, knocking him out. He mowed through the villains, grabbing Aizawa as he went, carrying him gently with an arm under his back and another under his knees.
Before Izuku knew it, he was grabbed and yanked from the water, All Might knocking off the hand from the villain’s face. The villain felt around for the hand, holding him own to his face as he seemingly had a mental breakdown before putting the severed hand back into place. Wait, did he just call the hand father?
“Everyone, go to the entrance. I’m leaving Aizawa to you. He’s unconscious, hurry!”
The students gathered Aizawa as carefully as possible, Izuku grabbing his arms, Mineta grabbing his legs, or shins rather, and Tsu supporting what she could. “All Might, you can’t. That brain villain took One fo-” He glanced back at Tsu and Mineta. “He took a punch that didn’t break my arm, but he didn’t even twitch. He’s gonna be-”
“Young Midoriya,” All Might interrupted his rambling. “It’s fine now.” All Might turned to him with a smile and a peace sign formed with his fingers near his left eye. Izuku nodded and the three, holding their injured teacher, began towards the entrance. They watched as their other teacher punched the monster time and time again only for it to have no effect. The blue haired villain appeared to say something, causing All Might to suplex the villain straight into the concrete floor causing it to crack and dust to fly in every direction.
“How did he make a suplex look like an explosion?” Mineta said, amazed. “All Might’s on a whole nother level!”
“Even though he’s a rookie teacher who can’t teach without using his notes.” Ok, he had to agree with Tsu there. He looked back at the fight and became slightly dejected as he realized there was no way they could help All Might at the moment. They had to get their injured teacher to safety.
His eyes widened and his heart skipped a beat as he realized something; All Might was at his limit. The news, 13 holding up 3 fingers, it all made sense. He didn’t have much time left in his hero form and they had a way to kill him when he ran out of time. He turned back to the dust rising from the ground, hearing his classmates cheer on All Might as his mouth was kept shut by another realization; All Might was at his limit, that much he already knew, but Izuku was the only one walking and uninjured that knew what could happen. That he could turn into a small, weak, sickly man with only a puff of smoke; one that could be easily killed.
The dust cleared, only for the students to see the monster was halfway through a warp gate, nails digging into the skin on All Might’s torso and drawing blood, All Might’s arm still wrapped around it’s stomach. The blue haired villain stood where he was, appearing to boast as the warp villain appeared next to him. All Might let go of the monster and tried to pry its hands off his torso as the bloodstain got larger. They both started sinking into the warp, the warp gate closing in on the hero.
“Tsu,” Izuku said suddenly.
“What is it, Midoriya?”
“Trade places with me carrying Mr. Aizawa.”
“Ok, but why?” As soon as he was relieved of his responsibility, he began running towards All Might, no plan in mind, just determination to save his mentor. Yells sounded from behind him as a warp opened in front of him when he got close enough. Was this it? Had he failed? Was he going to die? Disappear forever? His hand was about to go through when an explosion moved the villain away from him. Bakugou had an angry look on his face, not looking at Izuku as he spoke.
“Move! You’re in the way, Deku!” He grabbed the villain’s armor and slammed him into the ground.
Ice came out of seemingly nowhere and trapped the villain in place. Turning, Izuku saw it was Shoto Todoroki, his face in it’s usual deadpan, that had created the ice. “All I heard was that you are here to kill All Might.” The hero jumped out of the monster’s grip, landing next to Shoto and clutching the injury on his side.
Kirishima then came out of nowhere, going for the head villain [or should I say hand villain? Huh? Ok, I’ll stop.] but missing as he swiped at his head. Izuku stood for a moment, shocked at the appearance of the three others before wiping his teary eyes and staring determinedly at the blue haired villain, the monster still trapped in the warp and Bakugou still holding down the warp villain.
“Kurogiri, our exit and entrance has been overcome. We’re in a pinch.” Izuku filed away the name in the back of his mind.
“You careless bastard. You’re just what I thought you’d be. Only certain parts of you can turn into a misty warp gate. The fog covered your actual body, right? If you were completely made of mist and physical attacks couldn’t touch you, then you wouldn’t have said ‘that was close’ when we attacked you.” Izuku stood in shock as he took in and agreed with Bakugou’s analysis [Ok, so maybe he’s not only a hothead, I’ll admit it]. The villain moved, but was stopped by Bakugou setting off smaller explosions from his hand on the armor. “Don't move! If I feel like you’re moving suspiciously, then I’ll blow you up!”
“His behavior isn’t really hero like…” Kirishima acknowledged and Izuku had to agree with him, but was also thankful because then the warp gates wouldn’t be much of a threat.
“In addition to capturing them, they’re almost all uninjured. Kids these days are amazing. They make the League of Villains look bad.” The blue haired villain turned towards the monster. “Nomu,” he prompted.
The Nomu moved, pulling it’s head out of the same warp as it’s lower body, its right arm and leg snapping off with the shattering ice, but still moving. The students stood in awe as the Nomu’s leg and arm were quickly replaced with the respective limb in seconds. Izuku faintly heard All Might say something about shock absorption and the villain say something about super regeneration, tuning it out as he stared in shock. After the conversation seemed like it was over, the students took fighting stances.
“First, we need to get our gate back.” The students made noises of confusion and tensed, waiting for an attack. “Go, Nomu.” A great wind pushed them all back and a cloud of dust formed near a barrier, cutting off 2 parts of the building. Izuku realized the Nomu had been going for Bakugou, calling his name and looking around, he saw Bakugou on the ground next to him. “Kaachan! You dodged, that’s amazing!”
“No, shut up, scum!”
“Then how…?”
“Then that was…”
They all looked back towards the dust, cleared just enough to see All Might standing there, arms crossed protectively and sleeves becoming short rather than long. As they had been. “All Might!” Izuku shouted, becoming even more worried about the hero.
All Might coughed and Izuku thought he saw blood dripping from his mouth. “Do you not know how to hold back?”
“It was to rescue my companions, I had no choice. I mean earlier that… that weird looking one,” Izuku tensed, “he was about to punch me with everything he had, you know. Violence for the sake of others makes it admirable. Isn’t that right, hero? You know what, All Might? I’m angry! I’m angry at this world that categorizes those same acts as heroic or villainous, deciding what’s good and what’s bad. ‘Symbol of Peace’? Ha. You’re just a device to repress violence. Violence only breeds violence. The world will know this once we kill you!” [Ok, is it bad that I kind of see his point? I’ll talk more about it in the notes, but he has a point.]
“That’s preposterous. The eyes of a white collar criminal like you burn silently. You just want to enjoy this yourself, don’t you, you liar?”
“It’s 3 against 5,” Shoto supplied.
“Kaachan already exposed the fog’s weakness!” Izuku added.
“These guys are crazy, but if we back up All Might, we can push them back!” Kirishima said while activating his Original Quirk.
“No!” All Might said in response. “Run away.”
“You would’ve been in trouble if I hadn’t done anything, right?”
“That was a different story Young Todoroki, thanks. But it’s fine! Just watch as a pro gives it everything he’s got.”
“All Might, you’re bleeding! Besides time’s--” Izuku cut himself off. All Might turned back to him slightly and gave him a thumbs up, then turned back and prepared for a fight.
“Nomu, Kurogiri, get him. I’ll deal with the children.” The blue haired villain turned and faced them. “Now, let’s clear this and go home.” The villain began charging at them and they took defensive stances.
“Hey, we’ve got to do this after all!” Kirishima supplied.
A sudden wind formed as the Nomu and All Might rushed towards each other, increasing tenfold as they punched at the same time, causing everyone but the two fighting to get pushed back. Izuku tried to get his footing, his classmates having the same problem. “A head-on fistfight?” Izuku observed.
“W-Wow…”
All Might was punching the Nomu with all his might, his wound continuing to bleed through his shirt (only the undershirt surviving, the button up one having been obliterated during the fight). He made the monster fly with every punch, sending him across the dome and blocking at the same time. Izuku then realized, wind from the dight blowing in his face, that All Might was using more than 100% of his power.
Eventually, All Might slammed the Nomu into the concrete floor, making the monster bounce at the force of the hit. He punched the monster with all his might, making it go through the ceiling, leaving a huge hole in its place and shaking the whole building so hard the other students scattered throughout the USJ must have felt it.
The students stood in shock , Kirishima even making a comment that it seemed like a comic book. The dust cleared and there stood All Might, shirt in tatters and still in his post punch position. “I really have gotten weaker… In my prime, 5 hits would have been enough. But it took more than 300 hits.” He turned to leave, but was stopped by the other villains. “Now villains, I’m sure we’d all like to end this as soon as possible.”
Notes:
Ok, from that A/N: I see Shigaraki's point a little bit. The modern BNHA government is working on principles and rules from a seemingly older government from when basically no one had a Quirk. Also, he's right about All Might being just a repression tool. I mean, look at what happens after he retires in later season! Also, I've read the manga and things go down hill! Get rid of All Might, get rid of the suppression system.
Also, the Quirk categorization is shit, like you don't get to decide how a person uses their Quirk. Take Shinsou for instance! He has a 'villain like Quirk' and he's at U.A! So ya, definitely some flaws in the government.
Chapter Text
The black clad villain shook in anger, pissed that they didn’t win. He scratched at the right side of his neck.
“What’s wrong? You’re not coming? You said you’d ‘clear’ this or something, right? Come and get me if you can.” The villain took a step back, whether in fear or something else entirely, Izuku wasn’t sure.
“All… Might…” Bakugou said in wonder.
“As expected, it looks like there is no need for us to fight.” Shoto supplied.
Izuku stood, just looking All Might over. “Midoriya! We should get out of here now! It’ll be worse if we end up getting taken hostage instead!” Izuku continued to look All Might over, realizing that the hero was bluffing. If he even tried to fight, he would revert back into his weaker form, unable to use his Quirk.
“Well, what’s wrong?” The villains hesitated as All Might continued his bluff.
The villain, who had stopped scratching at his neck, had continued, only this time, his nails deformed the skin on both sides of his neck and not just the right side. “If only I had Nomu… that guy would have been able to go up against him without thinking about anything!” The warp villain said something to the main villain, making him stop scratching his neck, but leaving red irritated skin in place of the nails. They seemed to form a plan as the other villains got back on their feet.
They ran at All Might, and before Izuku knew it, he was in the air, having jumped when he noticed the hero struggling to maintain his form, even though he sprained both legs in the process. He aimed for the warp villain, having launched himself in the direction of his armour. He prepared a punch, but before he could connect, the hand of the blue haired villain appeared in front of his face, waiting to turn him to dust.
A gunshot rang out and the villain’s hand moved away from him as Izuku fell to the ground. “Are they here?” The sound of more gunshots followed, as if answering All Might’s question.
“Sorry everyone!” the principal's voice said causing everyone to look in that direction. “Sorry we’re late! I gathered all who were immediately available.”
“I, Tenya Iida, class 1-A representative, have now returned!” Iida left? Had he gotten the teachers? It took a look towards the door to confirm that, yes, Iida had gotten the teachers. Midnight, Snipe, Present Mic (who looked unusually anxious), Cementos, and Ectoplasm were there amongst many others. The villains that had woken up had reacted quickly, moving to attack the heroes that had come. The immediate threats were quickly taken out by Ectoplasm and Present Mic, the other teachers moving to all corners of the USJ to take out the villains spread throughout the building.
The blue haired villain backed towards the warp villain, but was shot in each arm and leg before he could escape with more bullets being fired into the warp. The villain nearly escaped, only his head and tops of his shoulders peeking out from the black void, before beginning to be sucked up by something. Izuku looked and saw that something was 13’s Quirk. The villain submerged completely inside the void before they both disappeared, Black Hole deactivating soon after.
Izuku lay there, making small noises at the pain he felt in his ankles and finger (just now returning after adrenaline had wiped the pain clean), trying to stand. “I wasn’t able to do anything…”
“That’s not true.” Izuku looked up at All Might, the hero half in his muscular form, the other in his weaker form. “If it weren’t for those few seconds you bought me, I would’ve been killed. You saved me again.”
“All Might…” Izuku started to cry. “I’m so glad… you’re ok…”
“Midoriya!” Kirishima was running towards him and All Might
“Oh, Kirishima?”
“Are you ok?”
Izuku looked quickly between All Might and Kirishima. “Kirishima wai—” A cement wall went up between Kirishima and injured student with his mentor.
“We want to make sure all the students are safe, so please gather in front of the gate. We will deal with the injured here.”
“That makes sense, roger that.” A second of only footsteps pass. “Hey! He said to gather in front of the gate!”
All Might and Izuku deflated, the older finally falling into a sitting position. “Thanks, you saved me Cementos.”
“I am a fan of yours, too. Let’s get you to the nurse’s office while keeping you hidden. But man, you act reckless every time, huh?”
“If I didn’t act recklessly, I would have been killed. That was how strong the enemy was.”
In a bar somewhere in Kamino, a singular person sat in apprehension, gloves over his hands, only covering the first 3 fingers, and black face mask covering the lower half of his face. He sat on one for the bar stools, not doing anything, just sitting there. He’d been there for about an hour, sometimes getting up to pace around the small area of the bar, but staying within the same general area. He had on a black button up with a white tie, the shirt tucked into black slacks held up by a belt, with white shoes and gloves, a green jacket with purple fur lining the collar sitting on the stool next to him. His hair was dark brown, worn in a short style with golden eyes visible above the black mask.
A warp opened behind him so suddenly, he had taken off his right glove and prepared to attack, only to stop short when he saw who was being dropped through. A body completely dressed in black, blue hair, and covered in hands was dropped on the floor, “Tomura!” shouted the man.
“Kai… I thought you said you weren’t joining us,” the villain said, pain present in his voice, but a gleeful tone was able to be heard.
“What happened? Are you ok?” Kai saw the bullet holes in each arm and leg.
“I’ll be fine, I just need to get these treated. We lost completely… We even lost Nomu! All the underlings were defeated in an instant. Those kids were strong…” Kai maneuvered Tomura so he was leaning against his chest, taking stock of how bad his injuries were. “The Symbol of Peace was healthy… You were wrong, Master!” Kai shot his head over to the screen his soulmate was looking at, displaying the words ‘Sound Only’ as a deep voice came through the speakers.
“No, I was not. We just weren’t prepared enough. Yes, we underestimated them. It’s good that we did it under that cheap ‘League of Villains’ name. By the way, what about master and my joint creation, Nomu?”
“He was not retrieved?” a deeper voice that had chills shooting up Kai’s spine said.
“He was blown away.”
“What?!” Kai curled around Tomura more protectively instinctually at the hostile voice. relaxing his grip slightly when his soulmate made a noise of discomfort.
“More precisely, without coordinates to his precise location. [Yes, the subs say the same word twice in one sentence. Yes, some of the grammar in this story is weird, blame the subtitles.] I could not find him, even with my warp. I did not have time for that.”
“After all, we did make him as powerful as All Might!” said the first voice in an annoyed tone.
“Well, I suppose it cannot be helped. That’s unfortunate.”
“Power… That’s right, there was one child who was as fast as All Might.”
“Oh?”
“If he hadn’t gotten into the way, we may have been able to kill All Might.” Tomura clenched his hand on Kai’s leg, the latter letting out a small noise of pain that made the villain move his hand to the ground, making annoyed sounds the whole time, though the brunett knew they weren’t directed at him.
“Of course, you have your regrets, but this was not a futile excuse. Gather the elite. Take all the time you need. We cannot move freely, which is why we need a symbol, like you. Tomura Shigaraki,
next time show the world that you are to be feared!”
Tomura gave the screen a determined look as it turned black, Kai helping him to his feet and guiding him to the room in back decorated to be a bedroom for the young villain. He gave encouragement to the blue haired man as he was patched up.
Iida looked around his classmates to find the person he was worried about the most. He of course asked each classmate if they were alright, moving on to the next classmate after he got explicit confirmation that they were. The only people that seemed to be injured were Midoriya with All Might (who were sent to Recovery Girl) and Aizawa with 13 who were sent to the hospital for potentially life threatening injuries.
He continued weaving through the students and police that had arrived and eventually, the person that he was looking for came out of the USJ. Behind Tokoyami, Koji, and Present Mic (the former being nearly squished to death by Shoji), the hero Power Loader [took me way longer than it should have to find out his name] came out of the building with Ojiro and Suki behind him, both unharmed except for some small scratches, bruises, and soot staining their whole bodies. Iida rushed forward, trapping his soulmate in a nearly crushing hug, fully aware of the surprised, yet relieved stares his classmates were shooting at his back. Eventually, they were all called to gather in a group so that they could be sure every student was accounted for, Iida not letting go of Suki’s hand.
The detective who had introduced himself as Detective Tsukauchi counted all of them as they stood in their group. “…16, 17, 18, 19, 20. Other than the boy whose legs were seriously injured, everyone else seems unharmed.” They were dismissed and gathered into little groups to hear what everyone had done to stay alive. Before they began speaking, Uraraka ran over and caught Suki in a bear hug, making Iida laugh as they nearly toppled to the ground. Uraraka told Suki about Iida’s heroics and the former told the others about how she and Ojiro had survived using hit and run tactics to keep the villains confused in the fire zone. Aoyama went around seeing if people were interested in where he went, only to tell Tsu that it was a secret.
“Let’s have the students return to their classroom now. We won’t be questioning them right away, anyway, right?”
“Detective, what about Mr. Aizawa?” Tsu voiced their thoughts. The detective pulled out his phone and played a recording of what the doctor had said in terms to their teacher’s condition.
“Comminuted fractures in both arms and a facial fracture. Fortunately, there seems to be no serious brain damage. However, his orbital floor had been broken into small pieces, and his eyes may suffer from its aftereffects.” The students stood shocked for a moment, praying their teacher could still use his Quirk after this.
“That’s what he said.”
“No…”
“What about 13?” Mina asked, voicing the concerns of the class.
“13 has been treated, The laceration from the back to upper arm was bad, but 13 will survive.” The class breathed a joint sigh of relief. “All Might will also survive. Recovery Girl’s healing is enough to treat him. So he’s in the nurse’s office.”
“Deku?” Uraraka and Suki said loudly, catching the man’s attention.
“What about Midoriya?” Iida added.
“Midori… Oh, treatment in the nurse’s office for him too.”
Again, the class relaxed. “Oh, good…”
“Now, go back to your classroom.”
“Ok.” With that, they got back onto the bus and drove back to the main campus, happy to get away from the building.
Izuku and All Might were escorted to the nurse’s office and were healed by sunset, laying on the beds to recover their energy, All Might’s feet hanging off the end of his because, well, he was an adult
and the beds were made for school students. “Because of the situation this time, I can’t really scold you…”
“I’m not sure… but I think I might have shortened the time limit of my hero form again. I hope I still have at least an hour.”
“All Might…” Izuku said in response to the depressed tone in his mentor’s voice.
“Well, it can’t be helped. These things happen.”
The door to the room slid open. “Excuse me. All Might, it’s been a while.”
“Tsukauchi! You’re here too?”
“All Might! Is it alright to show that form?” Izuku asked, sitting up and panicking ever so slightly (ok, a lot).
“Yeah, it’s fine. Why? Because he’s Naomasa Tsukauchi, my best friend in the force.”
“What’s with that introduction? Sorry to the chase, but All Might, can you give me details about the villa—”
“Wait! Please, wait! More importantly, are all the students ok? What about Aizawa—EraserHead—and 13?”
“Other than that boy only a few students had light injuries, and the 2 teachers are in stable condition for now.” Both males on the bed gave a sigh of relief. “If you 3 heroes had not risked your lives, then the students would not have survived.”
“You’re wrong about one thing, Tsukauchi, the students also fought and risked their lives. Have there ever been any first years that have faced a real fight so soon, survived and learned the fear and world of the adults? The villains did something dumb. This class is strong, and they will become strong heroes. I am certain of that.” All Might looked over at him and smiled, giving a thumbs up to which Izuku smiled and nodded in response. Izuku turned to continue looking at the sunset, the encouragement making him happy.
Izuku spent the rest of the daylight hours in the nurse’s office, changing into his uniform and beginning to head home. He got to the front of the school and saw Uraraka, Suki and Iida waiting for him by the gate. “Deku!” Uraraka shouted in delight. They walked to the train station together, saying their goodbyes and getting on different trains. Izuku got home and ate dinner with his doting mother, then went to bed, dreaming of a future he couldn’t wait for.
Notes:
(I would again like to apologize if Suki seems like a Mary Sue, please let me know if I need to change anything)
Okay, so, school started for me about 2 weeks ago and I've had a hell of a lot of work to do, so I haven't been able to write season 2 yet, but I plan to get on that soon!
Also, did anyone predict Shigaraki's soulmate? This ship has been in my mind since I started this story!
(I was thinking about making an Instagram for this story... should I?)
Sorry, way too much talking for an ending A/N. Hope you enjoyed it! Look out for that bonus chapter!
Chapter 14: Bonus Chapter: The Race for Teacher: A Tenya Iida Special
Summary:
BONUS CHAPTER
Notes:
Heyo! Here's the bonus chapter I promised! I tried to get it out earlier, but there have been some Jewish holidays that I was observing and so this got pushed back a smidge! Anyway, enjoy this chapter and the creative liberties I took!
Chapter Text
Shoji, Sato, Iida, and Sero stood in front of the villain, only about a foot behind 13 while Mina and Uraraka stood protected behind them. Shoji used his Dupli Arms and Dark Shadow Quirks to observe and search the building for their other classmates, a slow process that put everyone still standing by the doors on edge.
“Shoji, is everyone here?” Iida asked, scared for his friends and soulmate.
“Everyone is scattered, but they’re all in the building.” The students deflated, relieved their classmates were still in the building, but quickly retensed, facing down the villain in front of them who had scattered their classmates in the first place.
“Damn it… physical attacks can’t hit him, and he can warp things,” Sero observed. “His Quirk is the worst!” Everyone present had to agree.
“Class rep!” 13 said suddenly.
“Yes?”
“I entrust this duty to you; run to the school and tell them about what is happening here. The alarms are not sounding and our phones don’t have signals. The alarm system is made based on infrared rays. Even though EraserHead’s erasing people's Quirks left and right, they are still not working, which means they must have someone with an interference Quirk who hid right when they arrived. It would be faster for you to run than for us to find that person.”
“But it would be a disgrace as a class rep to leave everyone behind--”
“Go, Emergency Exit!” Sato said. “If you can get outside, there are alarms. That’s why these guys are only doing this inside, right?”
“As long as you go outside, these guys won’t follow you!” Sero added. “Blow away this fog with your legs!”
“Use your Quirk to save others!” 13 added on.
“I can totally support you like I did in the cafeteria!” Uraraka said enthusiastically. “I will! Please class rep!”
Iida’s face turned determined as he activated his boosters and got into his running stance. “Even if you have no other choice, are there really idiots who talk about their plans in front of the enemy?!”
“We did it because it doesn’t really matter if we’re found out!” 13 activated Black Hole, starting to turn the villain to dust.
“Black Hole, which sucks up everything and turns it to dust. I see, that’s an outstanding Quirk. However, 13, you are a hero who saves people from disasters. As expected, your battlefield experience is less than half of that of a normal hero.” The villain opened a warp gate behind the space hero, turning Black Hole against its user. The back of the spacesuit broke off, turning to dust along with some of 13’s actual body.
Black Hole stopped turning 13 to dust. “H-He got me…” 13 said, somewhat struggling to speak as the students looked on in horror.
“13!” Mina shouted, concerned for the teacher.
“Iida, run!” Sato shouted. “Hurry!”
Iida began to object, but 13’s voice echoed through his head. He started up his engines, and took off running while shouting, “damn it!” He made it only a few feet before a warp gate opened up in front of him. He began to skid to a stop to change his direction when Shoji grabbed the villain and told Iida to keep going. He began to run again, faster than before, making his way to the large doors that were frustratingly far away.
While he was deciding what to do with the door-should he kick it down? Could he kick it down? - a shadow cast over him and the ground he was running on. “You’re impertinent, four eyes. Be gone!” The black mass that could warp him anywhere on the planet surrounded him. He closed his eyes as he kept running, praying he made it to the doors before he was sent somewhere potentially deadly.
Suddenly, the black mass was gone from around him, he looked back to see the villain floating in the air. “Go, Iida!” Uraraka’s voice shouted. So, she had made it float. He’d have to thank her for that when this was over. He finally made it to the doors, using his muscles and Partner Quirk to pry them open so that he could go get the teachers. Once they were open enough, he sped out of the USJ, boosting his engines to get to the main campus faster.
He took the road the bus had gone down, trying to keep the main school building in his eyesight the whole time. He passed All Might on his way to the school heading in the same direction as the USJ. The hero landed in front of him, asking why he wasn’t with his classmates. Iida explained the villains, 13’s injuries, Aizawa fighting the villains, and his classmates scattering. All Might took off again soon after he mentioned he wasn’t sure of the students' states.
Once he got to the entrance, he slowed down his boosters but continued going fast as he raced towards the teachers’ lounge, nearly mowing over several upperclassmen as he went, but still, shouting apologies over his shoulder, kept moving.
Once he made it to the lounge, he knocked on the door rapidly, praying for one of the teachers to come and open it quickly as he panted, catching his breath so he could explain the situation properly. His prayers were answered when, after about a minute of knocking (or had it only been about 30 seconds?), Present Mic opened the door, seemingly shocked at his presence, but friendly, nevertheless. “What’s up listener?” he said cheerfully, seeming misplaced in the current situation.
“Villains… USJ… 13 injured… students… scattered…” he panted out, still trying to catch his breath.
Present Mic’s laid back face and posture immediately turned serious, guiding Iida into the lounge as he finally regained his breath. “Okay, I’m going to need you to explain what happened clearly so we can understand the situation.”
And so, Iida did. He told them how the League of Villains appearing just before they’d even started their rescue training, he told them about Aizawa fighting off the villains (to which Present Mic asked if he knew Aizawa’s status; he did not, and Mic deflated a bit at that news, much to Iida’s suspicion, he’s gonna have to look into that). He told them about the warp villain that had scattered his class all throughout the USJ, and he told them about 13 getting injured. Immediately after he had finished, the teachers in the room (Present Mic, Snipe, and Midnight) gathered their gear and weapons and went the same way All Might had, Iida trailing close behind as they gathered more of the staff as they continued through the front of the school.
They got onto a bus similar to the one that had gotten them there in the first place, only this time, the atmosphere was much dire and tense and the bus was going much faster, possibly illegally over the speed limit, but Iida could care less. He had classmates and a soulmate back at the USJ to worry about. Calls were made to the police and Hero Commission. Heroes like Vlad King, Cementos, and Ectoplasm, amongst others.
Once they finally made it to the USJ, the heroes wasted no time breaking down the huge blue doors (something Iida wished he could have done earlier) and making their presence known as Snipe took out the villains that seemed like the biggest threats to the students with deadly accuracy.
“Sorry everyone,” the mouse-or-something-principle said. “Sorry we’re late! I gathered all who were immediately available.”
“Iida!” he heard Uraraka shout in joy.
“I, Tenya Iida, class 1-A representative, have now returned!”
