Work Text:

“A-Die, Baba, wake up!”

Wei Wuxian groaned as he rolled away from the insistent voice, covering his head with the blanket. He tried to ignore the giggling voice beside him as he went back to sleep.

A-Yuan couldn’t help but giggle as he saw one of his fathers hide under the blanket while the other sat up on the bed. Lan Wangji looked confused as he saw the time on the clock on the bedside table, 4:45 am.

Lan Wangji signaled for the boy to come to his side of the bed. A-Yuan quickly walked over to him. Lan Wangji grabbed his son and sat him on his lap.

“Good morning a-Yuan.” Lan Wangji said as he gave his son a kiss on the forehead. A-Yuan smiled brightly and gave the man a kiss of his own and a big hug.

“Good morning baba.” He said happily as he snuggled into his fathers’ neck.

“What are you doing awake so early?” Lan Wangji asked as he stroked his son’s hair.

“I wanted to surprise you and a-die!” A-Yuan said as he leaned back and smiled at his father.

Lan Wangji smiled at his son as he tucked his lose hair behind his ear. “Why?”

“It’s Father’s Day! Happy Father’s Day baba!” A-Yuan exclaimed happily.

Lan Wangji stared at his son in surprise. Since lockdown began, he and Wei Wuxian had barely left the house other than to shop for groceries. Luckily, their jobs allowed them to work from home and they’d been grateful for that since they had a six-year-old at home. It hadn’t been easy, but they’d all found a way to manage with it. Everything had been so wild lately that he and Wei Wuxian joked about how the days had somehow merged together and they’d been struggling to keep track of them.

Lan Wangji grabbed his phone from his bedside table and confirmed that it was indeed June 21st. He couldn’t believe he’d lost track of time to the point that he’d forgotten such a special day. The first time that he and Wei Wuxian could celebrate Father’s Day themselves after having officialized a-Yuan’s adoption only a month before.

“Baba, are you okay?” A-Yuan asked as he placed his hand on his fathers’ cheek.

Lan Wangji nodded. “I hadn’t noticed the date.”

A-Yuan giggled at the words, “Silly baba.”

Lan Wangji smiled at A-Yuan’s small mocking giggles. He quickly moved, pulling up his son’s pajama shirt and blowing raspberries on his cute little tummy.

A-Yuan giggled uncontrollably as he tried to push his father away, “S-stop b-baba!” He said through his laughs. It only worked to make Lan Wangji blow harder. A-Yuan thrashed on his lap, giggling like crazy until Lan Wangji decided to take pity on his son.

He stopped blowing raspberries on his son and instead started peppering kisses over his tummy, moving up and kissing his cute little nose, both cheeks, and his forehead. A-Yuan smiled as his giggles died down, “Mean baba.” He said with no heat in his voice.

“Thank you for the Father’s Day wishes.” Lan Wangji said as he smiled and kissed the top of his head.  “Would you like to help me make breakfast for a-die?” Lan Wangji asked.

A-Yuan quickly nodded in agreement. Lan Wangji smiled as he grabbed a-Yuan and stood up from the bed. A-Yuan put his hands around his fathers’ neck, making sure to not pull his loose hair as Lan Wangji carried him downstairs to the kitchen.

Once in the kitchen, Lan Wangji sat a-Yuan on one of the kitchen stools, “What should we make?” he asked as he opened the fridge.

A-Yuan scratched his nose with his forefinger, a habit he’d picked up from Wei Wuxian, as he thought. “Toast?”

Lan Wangji nodded, “Toast, eggs, orange juice?” He asked as he looked back at his son.

A-Yuan quickly nodded, “Perfect!”

Lan Wangji quickly grabbed the ingredients and placed them on the kitchen island. He quickly began preparing scrambled eggs for all three of them as a-Yuan watched. Once he was done, he turned around, grabbed a pan and placed it on the stove. He grabbed an empty stool and he placed it in front of the toaster.

“A-Yuan come here.” He said. The boy quickly hopped off the stool and made his way over to his father. Lan Wangji grabbed him and sat him on the stool, passing over a plate with six slices of bread. A-Yuan quickly got to work, having done this many times before, and began placing the bread slices in the toaster.

As a-Yuan prepared the toast Lan Wangji poured the egg mix into the pan, quickly preparing breakfast for all three of them. Once he was done, he looked for three plates for their breakfasts.

“Baba! The bread is done!” A-Yuan exclaimed as he stared at his father. Lan Wangji walked over to the fridge and grabbed the butter. He then opened a cabinet to get the butter knife.

“Baba, I can help with that too!” A-Yuan said as Lan Wangji walked over to him. Lan Wangji nodded at him and placed the things beside a-Yuan.

“Be careful.” Lan Wangji said. A-Yuan nodded seriously and began spreading the butter on each piece of toast. Something that took him a while since he wanted to do it right.

Lan Wangji grabbed their serving tray and placed all three plates. He then poured all three cups of orange juice and placed them on the tray too.

“Baba, I’m done!” A-Yuan said as he hopped off the stool and walked over to the sink, placing the butter knife in it.

Lan Wangji walked over to him and leaned down to place a kiss on his head, “Very good. Thank you for the help, a-Yuan.”

A-Yuan looked up at him and grinned, “You’re welcome baba!”

Lan Wangji grabbed the toast and placed it in their plates. He finished putting away all the ingredients he’d taken out and placing the dirty dishes in the sink. He’d wash them once they were done eating breakfast. Lan Wangji grabbed the serving tray and began making his way back to his room, a-Yuan walking right beside him.

As they entered the room Lan Wangji couldn’t help but smile at the sight that greeted him. His husband had uncovered himself from under the blanket and rolled over to his side of the bed. He’d managed to hug Lan Wangji’s pillow in the process. Lan Wangji quietly walked over to the bed and placed their breakfast on their bedside table. Lan Wangji looked at a-Yuan, once the boy made eye contact with him, he glanced back at Wei Wuxian. A-Yuan’s smile grew, understanding his fathers’ message.

Lan Wangji picked up a-Yuan and placed him on the empty spot beside Wei Wuxian. A-Yuan crawled over his father and sat on top of him, giggling mischievously. “A-Die! Wake up!”

Wei Wuxian groaned and placed his arm over his eyes, “Five more minutes, a-Yuan.” He grumbled out.

Lan Wangji smiled, as a-Yuan giggled even more.

“No a-Die! You have to wake up now! It’s Father’s Day!” A-Yuan exclaimed as he bounced a little bit on his father’s lap.

At those words Wei Wuxian’s eyes shot open. “What?” He asked sounding a little breathless.

“Happy Father’s Day a-Die!” A-Yuan yelled as he leaned down and hugged his father, placing kisses all over the older mans face.

Wei Wuxian quickly returned the hug, his eyes looking a bit teary. “Thank you, a-Yuan.” He said almost in a whisper.

A-Yuan sat up, “Baba and I made breakfast for you!” He exclaimed. Wei Wuxian sat up and looked at Lan Wangji. The older man smiled and sat down on the empty space beside Wei Wuxian.

“Happy Father’s Day Wei Ying.” He said happily. Wei Wuxian shook his head laughing, but Lan Wangji knew his husband well. He knew the other man was as overwhelmed as he felt. “Happy Father’s Day Lan Zhan.” He replied just as happily. Lan Wangji leaned in and gave his husband a kiss. Wei Wuxian’s hand reached up to cup Lan Wangji’s cheek, deepening the kiss.

They both separated from the kiss and gave each other a confused look before looking down at the hands in between them. A-Yuan stared at them with a pout on his face. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian looked at each other again, having a silent conversation before leaning down and peppering a-Yuan with kisses.

A-Yuan giggled as his fathers attacked him with kisses, “Stop baba! Stop a-die! Our food will get cold!”

“Ah Lan Zhan, our little boy is so smart!” Wei Wuxian said as he looked to the side, his eyes widened as he saw the serving tray. “That looks good, a-Yuan did you help baba make that?”

A-Yuan nodded as he hopped off his father’s lap and sat beside him on the bed. “I made the toast!” He said as Lan Wangji handed him his plate and fork for kids.

Wei Wuxian smiled gratefully as he took the plate Lan Wangji handed him. He quickly grabbed a slice of toast and took a big bite of it. “Mmhh, a-Yuan this toast tastes so good!”

A-Yuan smiled brightly at the compliment, grabbing a slice himself. Lan Wangji sat more comfortably beside Wei Wuxian and began eating. The three of them sat in silence as they ate. Normally Wei Wuxian would speak as they ate, making the ambiance livelier, but at that moment he was too lost in his thoughts to even begin a topic of conversation. He felt overwhelmed at the reminder that he and Lan Wangji were now fathers. Their first Father’s Day with a-Yuan after his adoption, and yet he’d forgotten all about it. He had a mix of emotions, joy and guilt.

Lan Wangji silently handed him a glass of orange juice after he was done eating his breakfast and took his plate to place it on the tray. Wei Wuxian smiled and placed a kiss on his cheek.

“Baba! I’m done too!” A-Yuan exclaimed as he proudly showed them his completely empty plate.

“And you ate it all too? Wow, or little a-Yuan is so amazing! Isn’t he Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian said as he took his sons empty plate and handed it to Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji nodded, “Mn,”he replied smiling.  He grabbed a-Yuan’s cup from the serving tray and handed it to him.

A-Yuan drank his orange juice and once he was done, handed his cup to Wei Wuxian. He then got off the bed and began walking to the door.

“A-Yuan, where are you going?” Wei Wuxian asked confused.

“It’s a surprise!” A-Yuan yelled as he hurried out of his parent’s room.

Wei Wuxian giggled at the reply and finished drinking his juice. He handed both cups to Lan Wangji who wordlessly placed them on the serving tray. Wei Wuxian grabbed his husbands’ hand.

“Lan Zhan, I’m sorry.” He said seriously as he turned to look at Lan Wangji. “With everything happening I completely forgot Father’s Day was this weekend. I feel terrible since this is our first time as fathers. I shouldn’t have forgotten, and I didn’t get you anything and I’m just so sorry, I’m the worst husband in the wo-” Wei Wuxian was cut off by Lan Wangji’s lips pressed against his own. Wei Wuxian felt his worries disappear at the familiar feeling of his husband’s lips. He couldn’t help but smile into the kiss as he felt Lan Wangji’s hand caressing his cheek. Lan Wangji broke off the kiss but remained near Wei Wuxian, pressing his forehead against Wei Wuxian’s own.

“I’m sorry too.” Lan Wangji began. “I must admit, Father’s Day also slipped my mind.”

Wei Wuxian’s eyes widened at that. “It did?” He asked in disbelief.

Lan Wangji nodded.

Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but laugh at that, head thrown back against the headboard. Lan Wangji smiled at the sight.

“Ah Lan Zhan! Can you believe us? Forgetting our own holiday. We’re a disgrace to dads all over the world.” Wei Wuxian said jokingly. Lan Wangji let out an amused puff of air.

“In our defense, it’s our first one. And we’re very bad with holidays.” Lan Wangji added as he placed a sweet kiss on Wei Wuxian’s lips.

Wei Wuxian giggled at that, “Yeah we are.” Wei Wuxian caressed Lan Wangji’s ear and leaned in closer to his ear, “I’ll make it up to you tonight.” Wei Wuxian whispered as he nibbled on Lan Wangji’s ear. The older man took in a deep breath at his words, his arm reaching around Wei Wuxian’s waist and pulling him closer. Wei Wuxian giggled, “Lan Zhan. So rough with this poor husband of yours.”

Lan Wangji turned to him and grabbed Wei Wuxian’s face with his free hand. He leaned down and kissed his husband, quickly deepening the kiss. Wei Wuxian’s arms circled around his husbands’ neck, bringing him impossibly closer to deepen the kiss even more, but before he could Lan Wangji pulled away. Wei Wuxian couldn’t help the small whine that escaped his lips.

“We’ll continue tonight.” Lan Wangji whispered as he placed a quick kiss on Wei Wuxian’s lips, making the younger man pout in disagreement.

At the sounds of footsteps coming towards their room they separated a bit and looked towards the door. A-Yuan quickly come in with something clearly hidden behind his back and climbed onto the bed, managing to crawl all the way in between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. “Happy Father’s Day!” He exclaimed as he presented something to his fathers.

Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian both stared at their son in surprise, neither of them ever expecting to receive a gift from him. Wei Wuxian took the card in his hand and brought it closer for inspection.

It was clearly a homemade card, with a drawing of three figures on the front. Wei Wuxian couldn’t help it as his eyes teared up as he stared at the drawing of him and Lan Wangji with a-Yuan in between them, the three of them holding hands. Lan Wangji’s arms tightened around Wei Wuxian’s waist. He looked up and saw that Lan Wangji had also teared up at the drawing.

“Open it! There’s more inside!” A-Yuan exclaimed, jumping slightly where he was kneeled on in between them.

Wei Wuxian quickly followed his son’s instructions and opened the card. Inside, there was a message in a-Yuan’s very familiar handwriting. The message read, “Adie Baba HAPPY FATHERS DAY I love you both veri veri much thank you for adoptin me and makin me veri veri HAPPY. I always wanted a dad wen I was in the orfanage and now I get 2 dads! Im so so luky. now I get to celebrate fathers day too! Adie baba I love you so mush! Love ayuan!”

Wei Wuxian couldn’t help the tears that streamed down his face once he finished reading the card, he looked to the side and saw that Lan Wangji was also crying.

“A-die, baba, why are you both crying? Do you hate it?” A-Yuan asked, sounding as shy and fearful as he did when he first met them when Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian first visited the orphanage.

Wei Wuxian looked at his son immediately and shook his head as he dried his tears, “No of course not. We love it so so much! A-Yuan this card is perfect!”

“Thank you so much for the card a-Yuan.” Lan Wangji said as he reached for a-Yuan, the boy immediately crawling into his father’s lap.

“Then why are you both crying?” A-Yuan asked, head tilted to the side in wonderment.

“Wei Wuxian giggled as he leaned forward and placed a kiss on a-Yuan’s forehead, “Because it makes us really happy.”

“It does?” A-Yuan asked.

Lan Wangji nodded, “It makes us extremely happy.”

A-Yuan grinned at both his fathers, “Thank you for being my a-die and my baba! I love you both!” He exclaimed happily.

Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji both hugged a-Yuan as new tears of happiness streamed down their faces. Wei Wuxian placed a kiss on top of a-Yuan’s head. “Thank you for completing our little family a-Yuan. We wouldn’t be fathers without you. We love you too.”

Notes:

So basically this was inspired by this gif I saw of yibo .
I was like I need lwj holding a-yuan like that and realized it was father's day so this is the perfect excuse to write something about that gif AND celebrate wangxian as the best dad's in the world. Anyways Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, happy father's day! You both are the best dads out there have a great fictional day!

So last year I lowkey started writing a fic for my own enjoyment of first time dads wangxian celebrating a-yuan's first christmas with them. I never finished it (tbh I probs will tho) but this fic is kind of a part of that universe (if you ignore the lockdown thing which tbh i probably will). Maybe someday I'll get to post the christmas one.

I hope you liked it! Thanks for reading!
