Work Text:

Yoongi watches Seokjin arrange the flowers that he brought home, pale blue sweater hanging off his pretty pale shoulders. His soft humming is a lullaby as Yoongi lazes on the thick soft rug that sinks under his weight.

"We can have a couch, for guests or whatever," Seokjin had told him when they were shopping for furniture. "But I want a rug in the middle of the apartment. I like floors better."

So when Seokjin was busy fussing over kitchen things, Yoongi snuck off. "Toilet, babe."

"Shh!" He scolded, lips curving up.

"Your smile is unconvincing," he replied, ducking when Seokjin brandishes a fry pan at him.

He chose the warmest, thickest rug he could find because he doesn't fancy lying on the cold floor. White, because Seokjin would like how it contrasts with the dark wood of their floor. He thinks he might have gone a bit overboard with the size, because it covers the whole of the living room and would extend into the kitchen if not for the walls. It was expensive and Seokjin was just fondly exasperated.

It's worth it because there are more things to do on a huge rug than just sitting and lying on it. Yoongi smirks at the thought, rolling over to hide it, inhaling the smell of the vanilla sanitiser Seokjin sprays on it every month as if it could erase those thoughts. Something settles next to him and then a kiss lands on the back of his head.

"Hey," Yoongi mumbles, turning onto his side and Seokjin's there, propped up on his elbows and staring.

Seokjin wriggles his way into Yoongi's arms and Yoongi grins. "Sometimes I feel like you should be the one holding me."

"No thanks, I like this way better." Seokjin mumbles into his neck. "Thank you for the flowers."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

They lie there for a while, just silence and the sound of their breathing. Seokjin eventually starts humming another song that Yoongi had been working on and Yoongi shushes him. "No, quiet, listen."

"Hm?" Seokjin pulls away just barely so that he can look at Yoongi and Yoongi puts a finger to his lips. Seokjin gives it to him, just lies back and lets the quiet sink in.

"Sometimes it's too quiet," Seokjin says, and Yoongi shakes his head.

"Can't you hear our breathing?"

"I guess," Seokjin says dubiously, and Yoongi looks at him, his lips curved in the way that Yoongi has learnt to read as 'Okay, whatever'. Yoongi snorts, sits up and pulls Seokjin up.

"I guess that's why you're not a music producer," Yoongi says, brushing Seokjin's fringe straight, messed up from when he had presses his face into Yoongi's shirt. "Let's go out, have dinner."

"More like I'm not such a romanticist as you are," Seokjin replies, picking up Yoongi's hat and dropping it hapharzardly on his head before he goes off to get their phones.

"I thought you liked romantic things," Yoongi says, as they walk down to the bus stop.

"I do," Seokjin agrees, and Yoongi squints at Seokjin who just rolls his eyes. "Yes, I like you too."

"Good," Yoongi says, grinning, and Seokjin shoves at his shoulder.

After dinner, and ice cream that included obnoxious selcas sent to the group chat with all their friends, Yoongi finds himself dragged into a pet shop that is miraculously open at nine pm.

"Hey, cutie," Seokjin coos at the panting puppy that paws at the glass that separates them both. "Isn't she cute, Yoongi-ah?"

"Yeah," Yoongi says. He squats down next to Seokjin, watches the way the puppy's eyes dart to him before refocusing on Seokjin. Meowing catches his attention instead, and he wanders off, stopping right in front of the french doors that prevents the kittens from escaping.

"It's a golden retriever," Seokjin calls, unafraid of his volume because there is no one in a pet shop at nine pm. "I really wanted goldens when I was younger, but Mum only wanted a small dog."

Yoongi makes a noise in reply, curious about the bright blue eyed cat with dark paws and dark ears that jumps up on the tower to look at him.

"Can we get her, Yoongi?"

Yoongi doesn't register the words at first, tapping the glass and seeing the way the kitten pats the exact same spot back. He stares at the pink paw before he turns. "Wait, what?"

"She's so cute though," Seokjin mumbles, the puppy already in his arms as he plays with the small floppy ears. The puppy fusses, lapping at Seokjin's fingers. "Can't we? We discussed it before."

"I..." Yoongi says, helpless as Seokjin shoves the puppy into his arms. "Hey, buddy."

The puppy pants at him, eyes unblinking as it paws at his shoulder. "I guess you're cute, huh," Yoongi comments, the eyes a little reminiscent of Seokjin's when Yoongi glances at his boyfriend's hopeful eyes. He gets an idea, and brings the puppy to the glass window where the kitten is sitting. The kitten was cleaning its paws, looking up when Yoongi gently bumps the puppy's nose to the glass. "Do you like her, kitten?"

The kitten sinks down, head tilted as it stares at the oblivious puppy. The kitten pats the glass again, tail raising high in the air.

"Oh, Ragdolls are very friendly to dogs, so I wouldn't be surprised if he does," the shop assistant pipes up, and Yoongi looks over, skeptical. The shop assistant quails, sliding back behind the cashier.

"He does though," Seokjin says, peering at the kitten. "You're pretty, huh. Ragdoll is cute breed name."

The kitten miaows and Seokjin lets out a small chuckle. "Figures that you'd like cats while I like dogs."

"What can I say, opposites attract," Yoongi murmurs lowly, stroking the puppy's small snout. "Okay, I guess."

"Really?"

"Yeah, you really want her," Yoongi says, jiggling the puppy, who just pants louder. He crosses over to the racks of dog beds, already considering what they would need. "She'd be nice company when you're gone on your trips."

"I could say the same to you," Seokjin says. "Could I see the kitten?"

"Of course," The shop assistant responds instantly, slding the french doors open and lifting the kitten into Seokjin's arms.

"What?" Yoongi asks, glancing up from where he was deciding between pink or black.

"What?" Seokjin says, tickling the kitten's chin.

"Is this 'let's turn our apartment into a zoo' day?"

"No, this is 'Seokjin thinks a puppy and kitten would be nice' day." Seokjin replies. "You obviously like him, and we're getting a puppy already, we might as well."

"You spoil me," Yoongi says jokingly and Seokjin smiles, squeezing Yoongi's wrist for a millisecond before going to the counter.

"I love you," is what Seokjin whispers in Yoongi's ear when the shop assistant rings up everything they need. Yoongi steps on Seokjin's foot, grin wide as the kitten miaows at him again.

"They are a little representative of us, huh?"

"Who's the romanticist here," Yoongi says, when they are back in their apartment, sitting on the rug and leaning against the unused couch with the TV on low. They are watching how the puppy and kitten interact, both a little cautious and Seokjin pokes Yoongi.

"Still you."

"I deserve a kiss for being the best boyfriend ever then," Yoongi says slyly, flinching when he earns another poke. "People kill for a romantic partner, you know."

"Yeah, yeah." Seokjin says. Yoongi gets tugged in by the collar anyway. It's always nice to kiss Seokjin, not just because he loves him but Seokjin always kisses slow, regardless of the situation and Yoongi likes that. The careful way Seokjin tugs on bottom lip with his teeth, how his hand presses on the small of Yoongi's back to pull him closer so that Yoongi can wrap his arms around Seokjin's neck. They fall fully onto the rug and Seokjin laughs into the kiss, Yoongi replying by kissing him harder.

Seokjin jerks abruptly, forehead bumping into Yoongi's.

"Oh god, sorry," Seokjin says, immediately pressing a kiss onto Yoongi's forehead where they hit each other. "Just-"

He rolls over, and they both peer at the puppy who sits there, continuing to nose at Seokjin's foot and the kitten miaows from its bed in the corner.

"Do you think we can teach them not to come onto the rug?" Yoongi asks, and Seokjin glances at him.

"Why?"

"I was having a good time, excuse you," Yoongi says to the puppy, who looks at him with what Yoongi thinks is mock innocence. He looks at the kitten. "You too, you brat, couldn't you have stopped her?"

Seokjin scoffs, wriggling his fingers at the puppy. "Haru, come here."

"Haru?" Yoongi asks, watching how the puppy toddles over. "She likes the name."

"Of course she does, why would she not like it, it's Yoongi's song, isn't it?" Seokjin coos at the puppy, and Yoongi flops down on Seokjin's lap before Haru can make it. "Hey!"

"I'm more important than that dog, and I have right over Haru, since she's named after my song," Yoongi says. Seokjin laughs, relenting and he pets Yoongi's hair with one hand, Haru with the other.

"What are you going to name him then?"

Yoongi turns over, looks at the kitten napping in the corner. He closes his eyes, thinking as Seokjin runs his fingers through his hair. "Jinshim."

"Why?" Seokjin asks, and Yoongi smiles.

"Because sometimes I call you Jin, you're in my heart and I sincerely love you."

"Gross, Min Yoongi."

Days when Yoongi decides to run around the house shouting the most cringe-inducing, most romantic compliments he can think of, Seokjin chasing him in an attempt to shut him up, cheeks flushing with embarrassment at the thought of the neighbours hearing them, now with the addition of skidding past Haru and Jinshim who follow in excitement before they crash together onto the rug, he thinks that happiness with Seokjin, will be every day, forever.

Notes:

shimjang =심장 = heart, Jinshim = 진심 = sincere, Jinshim's name is therefore a pun on Jin's name
