Work Text:
The morning started like any other morning, Tsuyu’s alarm went off, she got out of bed and ready to leave her room to go downstairs to shower and clean up for the day. Grabbing her toiletries and heading out the door. Except once she opened her door it moved something that was in front of it out in the hallway. Opening her door more she looked to see what the object was, seeing a small package down on the floor.
Bending down to pick up the package and inspect, not finding anything saying who it was from and what it was, or anything written on it at all, just tape holding the top closed. Standing back up she brought the box into her room and sat down on her bed. Examining the package again before she then started opening it, curious as to what was inside.
The froggy girl was surprised to find jello molds inside, along with a jello mix of a flavor she was quite fond of. Along with the jello things, there was a note that appeared to be typed instead of handwritten, most likely to prevent her from possibly knowing who gave her the package based on the handwriting.
‘Jello’ there,
Excuse me for the pun, but you make my heart ‘jiggle’
If I wasn’t being such a ‘Jello’-belly I’d tell you this in person
-Secret Admirer
After reading the love note, Tsuyu set the items back in the box for now along with the note and set the package aside for later use and returned on her way downstairs to get ready for the day. Once she got downstairs to the commons, she began making her way over to the bathroom to shower, only to be stopped on the way there by Ashido who had been chatting with Yaoyorozu.
“Hey hey hey! Tsu! I heard someone left a box in front of your door! Who was it from was it a secret admirer~” The bubbly pink girl asked, quite curious about the box Tsuyu had received.
“I’m sorry Tsuyu, I only briefly mentioned it to her, I didn’t think much of it myself. Sorry to disturb you while you’re trying to get ready, we’ll let you get to it.” Yaoyorozu apologized, taking notice of the toiletries Tsuyu had with her and assumed she was on her way to shower. Ashido however was still curious about the package Tsuyu received.
“Oh come on Yao-momo! I just wanna know who gave her something and what it was!” Ashido complained, insisting on getting the information out of Tsuyu.
“Kero, Maybe later sometime after I take a shower Ashido. I might want to ask you about stuff.” Tsuyu responded, looking as if she was thinking about something with her head slightly tilted and a tipping a finger against her mouth.
Satisfied with the idea that Tsuyu might talk about the package later, Ashido stopped her badgering and let the froggy girl get back to what she came downstairs to do. Entering the bathing area and taking a morning shower, thinking about the package while she was in there.
When she was all done and dried off, she reentered the commons room, not seeing Yaoyorozu or Ashido anymore, but instead, Sero and Mineta were sitting at a table having some breakfast and chatting about who knows what. Tsuyu walked by the table they were sitting at on her way to the elevator, she swore she could almost feel Mineta’s eyes on her as she walked.
“Hey Tsu! How about inviting me next time maybe?” The small boy called out as Tsuyu was walking away, causing Tsuyu to frown and begin to turn around to give Mineta a piece of her mind. Only, Sero seemed to have beaten her to it, she had turned around just in time to witness Sero slapping a piece of his tape on the smaller boy’s mouth and giving Mineta a dirty look.
“Not cool dude, leave the girls alone you can’t just say things like that!” Sero scolded, displeased with Mineta’s remark towards Tsuyu. “Sorry about that Tsuyu, you can continue on now, unless you’d like to come slap him or something first I guess.” Sero suggested, causing Mineta to whip his head to look at Sero, trying to object but his words muffled by the tape over his mouth.
Tsuyu shook her head, “I think I’m good, you appear to have things under control, I’ll just be on my way.” The froggy girl responded, turning back around and once again walking towards the elevator, hearing what sounded like Sero dispensing more tape and an audible slap as she went on her way. Glancing back over at them she noticed Mineta now had Sero’s tape over his eyes and Sero looking at the small boy with a disapproving look.
Tsuyu got on the elevator and returned to her floor, walking down the hall to her room and walking in, setting her toiletries where they went and was about to go lay on her bed when she saw a certain pink acidic girl sitting there already.
The green haired girl glanced over at where she had left the box and saw that it looked to be untouched. “Ashido? What are you doing in here?” Tsuyu asked, giving the other girl a questioning look with a tilt of her head.
“I’m here to talk duhh! So who was the box from! Is it from a secret admirer?! Or is it a gift from a boyfriend you’ve been keeping secret from us? Heehee.” The pink haired teen inquired, quite curious about the box Tsuyu received still, she should have figured that’s why Ashido was here. She didn’t really appreciate the bubbly girl entering her room while she was out without her knowledge or permission, but they could talk about that later, Tsuyu did want to talk to someone about the gift and might as well kill two birds with one stone and get Ashido off her back about it a the same time.
“It is addressed from a secret admirer, Kero,” Tsuyu answered, grabbing the package and sitting next to Ashido on the bed with it. “But the thing is, I’m fairly certain I know who it’s from.” The frog girl admitted, she was almost positive she knew who had left her the gift, the only thing stopping her from being one hundred percent positive was one factor that could prove her whole theory on who it is wrong.
“Oh?! You know who? Tell me I wanna know! How do you know?” Ashido excitedly asked many questions to Tsuyu, wanting answers and information.
“Kero, just something about the box gives it away to me. But I’m still not sure it’s them.” Tsuyu stated, looking down at the box, wondering if her guess was right, it all lined up in her head but she couldn’t be a hundred percent positive yet.
Meanwhile Ashido looked at the box in Tsuyu’s lap as well, examining it from afar when something seemed to click in her mind. “Oh! Ah hah! He finally went and did something!” the pink girl suddenly exclaimed with a large grin on her face, leaving Tsuyu confused.
“What do you mean? You know who did this?” Tsuyu asked, wondering if Ashido would be able to confirm the identity of the secret admirer for her. On the other hand, she could just go up to the person she thought it was and ask them herself, but also it sounded like the pink girl knew of someone that had a crush on Tsuyu.
“I might have an idea of who it is, I’ll admit I did have another reason for trying to find out who gave you the gift, other than just being curious about your love life. I was kinda also checking for a friend of mine.” Ashido admitted, revealing her true reason for being so intrusive.
At this point Tsuyu considered asking which of Ashido’s friends had a crush on her, but if the answer was someone other than who Tsuyu suspected, and it did turn out that was who gave her the package. She wasn’t sure how she would feel knowing of two people that possibly were interested in her. She would feel bad accepting one’s feelings and break the other’s heart, but would feel bad for accepting neither of them as well. That and then things could get awkward between the three of them as well.
In the end, Tsuyu decided not to further question Ashido about the identity of the person that the pink girl knew had a crush on her. She was going to confront who she thought it was instead, and see how things turned out from there. Ashido and the froggy girl chatted for a bit longer before Ashido eventually left, leaving Tsuyu alone with the package again.
Examining the box once more, Tsuyu nodded to herself. If her secret admirer claimed to be too much of a yellow belly, or ‘jello belly’ as their note said, then Tsuyu would take it into her own hands to initiate trying a relationship together.
Setting the box aside once again, she stood up and left her room again, heading back down to the commons to see if a certain someone was still there. Once getting down there, she didn’t see any signs of who she was looking for. No one seemed to be in the commons at the moment. Walking over to the elevator of the boys side of the dorm she went up to the fifth floor.
Walking down the hall of the fifth floor, she stopped outside the door of the person who she was looking for. Stopping for a moment before she knocked on the door, did she even know what she was going to say? What if her guess was wrong?
Tsuyu shook her head, she was going to do this now, she wasn’t going to put it off. Knocking on the door she awaited a response. A minute passed in silence, she knocked again, still nothing. Maybe he wasn’t in his room? Maybe he’d left the dorms or was hanging in someone else’s room.
Walking away, Tsuyu went around in search of him, asking various classmates if they had seen him and no one was able to give his current whereabouts. Going about the rest of her day she kept an eye out still, looking for him so she could confront him about the package left in front of her room that morning. But there was no sign of him all day, leaving Tsuyu to go to bed for the night with her mission of finding him uncompleted. The froggy girl would have to try again the next day, where they would have classes, so he couldn’t hide from her then.
The next morning she got up and got ready for class like usual, heading down to eat breakfast at some point, still not seeing him anywhere as she ate and finished getting ready for class. Getting to class somewhat early she saw he wasn’t there yet and sat at her desk and watched the doors, waiting for him to come in.
It was almost time for class to start and he still hadn’t walked in the door, but the rest of his normal group of friends had already by now. Leaning forwards a bit she poked Ashido’s shoulder to get her attention, causing the pink girl to look back at Tsuyu.
“Need something Tsu?” Ashido asked, looking at the frog girl curiously.
“Where’s Sero?”
The acidic girl looked over at Sero’s empty seat, puffing her cheeks out slightly. “What does he think he’s doing?!” She said, sounding slightly annoyed, looking back to Tsuyu. “I don't know where he is myself, but I’m sure he’ll be here eventually, if not I’ll find him and if he’s not sick or something I’ll drag him here myself.”
Soon class was set to begin and there was still no sign of Sero. Tsuyu looked ahead towards the front of the class waiting for it to begin, when just before class was set to begin Sero made it in the classroom and to his seat just in time, leaving no time for Tsuyu to get up and talk to him.
Sitting there listening to Aizawa speak as class began, Tsuyu was getting frustrated not being able to talk this out with Sero, did he know she suspected that he was the one to give her the gifts and now he was avoiding her? If so this further proved to her that he was probably her secret admirer.
Getting out a piece of paper, Tsuyu wrote a message on it,
Were you the one who left a package outside of my room yesterday?
She wrote on the piece of paper, folding it up. Waiting for Aizawa to turn around and when he did she gently poked Kirishima, handing him the paper and pointing at Sero who was still looking forwards, oblivious to Kirishima and Tsuyu’s interaction.
Kirishima grinned and gave her a nod, leaning over to put the paper on Sero’s desk, giving the black haired boy a thumbs up and he went back to paying attention to class.
Sero looked at Kirishima and then the piece of paper confused, having not quite read it yet as he glanced around the classroom wondering who it was from as Kirishima hadn’t informed him. Reading the paper his face immediately went from confusion to shock and panic as he realized what the paper was and who it was from.
Tsuyu watched as Sero seemed to stare at the paper nervously, now she was positive he was the culprit behind the gift. Glancing over back at him, she noticed him now writing on the paper, she then went back to paying attention to class, waiting for Kirishima to hopefully pass back Sero’s response.
Shortly after, the paper was returned to her desk by Kirishima, who seemed more than eager to help in their communicating, having a grin on his face the whole time whenever she looked at him. Looking at the note that was passed back to her, she read Sero’s response.
How did you know!? Did Ashido tell you?!
Having read the reply, Tsuyu wrote out her next words.
No, she didn’t tell me. The tape on the package made it obvious that you at least had some part in it. It looked quite similar to the tape you produce.
Looking up to make sure she wouldn’t be seen, she folded it up and passed the paper back to Kirishima who promptly passed it to Sero, who quickly read Tsuyu’s reply and began writing again on the paper.
Not too much longer later, the paper was given back to her by Kirishima, she would have to thank him for constantly doing this later.
Ah frick, I didn’t think my tape would give it away. I thought for sure Ashido had told you when she told me you might know who gave you it.
Tsuyu wrote a response to Sero’s latest, and was about to hand it over back to Kirishima when a new hand came and grabbed it from behind her. Turning back slightly to see it was Iida that had grabbed it, his seat being right behind hers, and he set the paper off to the side, looking at Tsuyu rather cross that she was passing notes instead of paying attention.
Tsuyu guessed that was the end of their communications for now. Looking over past Kirishima and at Sero who had watched it happen, she gave a shrug his way and turned back to the front of class, she would have to continue their conversation later after classes.
The rest of the day was uneventful, just a normal school day except for Sero looking nervous when Tsuyu would look his way, they hadn’t gotten a chance to talk between classes or during lunch. Tsuyu didn’t mind, she would prefer it to be afterwards when they would have more time and wouldn’t have to worry about classes.
Once the school day was fully done and the frog girl was able to return to the dorms, she pulled out her phone, she had wanted to tell Sero to meet up with her afterwards but she didn’t get the chance before he seemed to have disappeared. Instead she pulled up the conversation between Sero and herself, they mostly talked in person but sometimes they would chat via texts.
-Let’s continue talking, more privately this time (Thanks Iida). Meet me in my room when you have the chance?
She sent the message and then headed up to her room if he didn’t come soon she would go searching for him again. Despite not showing it on her face as she made her way up to her room, she was eager to talk with him.
She hadn’t considered going out with the taping student before, but at the same time she hadn’t really considered going out with anyone during her time at U.A, the thought hadn’t crossed her mind really.
But she wasn’t against the idea, and Sero was a nice guy, they got along well, so why not give it a chance? She hadn’t wanted to tell him that she accepted his feelings over notes or text, she preferred for it to happen in person.
The green hair girl sat in her room and waited, checking her phone to see if he had seen the message yet and noticed it said he had read it, no response but she would have to wait and see if he showed up. If he didn’t she wouldn’t be leaving this unsettled, she would go search for him if she had to, for now though she would sit and wait and give him time to show up on his own.
When over an hour had passed and Sero still hadn’t shown up, Tsuyu stood up from her bed and went over to the door, planning on leaving the room to begin her search for him.
However, before she could do just that, she opened her door to see someone standing there, looking up to see it was Sero, who looked surprised and nervous. Glad that she didn’t have to go searching for him now, she gave a reassuring smile his way.
“There you are, I was wondering when you’d show up, I was about to come find you myself, why don't you come in so we can talk kero?” the frog girl said, stepping back to allow him room to enter.
The black haired teen stood in the hall for a moment, seeming to still be trying to snap out of his surprise at Tsuyu opening the door. Judging based on his reactions Tsuyu guessed he had been there for awhile debating whether to come in or not, maybe he hadn’t been she couldn’t be certain, but she had a good guess that had been what happened.
Once he finally entered the room she closed the door behind them and went and sat back over on her bed, with the box on the bed next to her, then looking up at Sero. When she looked at him, Sero looked away slightly, taking one hand to rub the back of his neck nervously.
“So my tape is really what gave it away? I didn’t think my tape would be that recognizable, or that you would even notice it.” Sero asked curiously. “Ashido really didn’t tell you?”
Tsuyu shook her head, “Ashido didn’t tell me at all kero. Though she did slightly help me be more sure of my answer when she was extremely curious about who the box was from and admitted she was checking for a friend. Though that still could have been anyone and for all I knew whoever had given me the gifts had run out of tape or something and asked you for some kero.” Tsuyu admitted, she hadn’t been sure even up to the point of giving him the first note, she was glad to have gotten it right on the first guess though.
“Ah that’s true, that’s true… so uh… You wanted to t-talk about it?” Sero asked, nervous of what Tsuyu might want to say to him, fearing rejection.
The green haired frog girl nodded in response, “I’d like to give us a chance if you really are interested, you’re a nice guy and someone I wouldn’t mind spending the rest of my life with kero.”
Sero had listened as she had spoke, a smile coming to his face as he heard Tsuyu accept his feelings. “R-really?! Th-that’s great of course I’m interested!I think you’re a wonderful person to hang around and chat with! I would love to give us being a couple a shot!” he excitedly said with a hint of nervousness still in his voice, yet still smiling.
After a few moments of nothing more being said, Sero rubbed his neck nervously again, “But uh, what now? I-is that it? I didn’t think I’d get this far, I didn’t plan this far ahead.” he quickly spouted out, unsure of what to do next.
Tsuyu shrugged and reached into the box, pulling out one of the jello mix boxes and one of the jello molds.
“Jello time?”
Sero gave her another smile, nodding his head.
“Y-yeah haha, jello time sounds good to me.”
Tsuyu smiled and quickly stood up from her bed with jello and mold in one hand. Grabbing one of Sero’s hands to start pulling him towards the door, “Jello time! Kero” she happily said, excited for jello and to make it with her new partner.
“Haha yeah, jello time!” Sero exclaimed back as he was practically dragged out of the room, off to the dorm’s kitchen to make jello with his new partner. He hadn’t thought he would make it this far in a million years, but here he was, being dragged by his small frog girl to go make jello.
Life was great.
