Chapter Text
“And lucky you, Korekiyo!” Monokuma bounced forward when the wheel landed on a rocketship, “You get to sleep with our very own astronaut! Wellllllll, share a bed with anyway, I don’t know if he’ll let you, you know, sleep with him. But the rooms are soundproof, so if you wanna tie him up, nobody will know!”
“I’ve no interest in raping Kaito,” Korekiyo sighed, stifling a yawn behind his hand. He was a bit worried about this arrangement, Kaito seemed occasionally uncomfortable around him, and he didn’t need Monokuma giving him more things to worry about.
For his part, Kaito barely registered the innuendo, he was stuck on that he’d have to share a room. He couldn’t hide his coughing all night, it was worse when he laid down anyway, and he’d started wetting the bed again. He’d done it as a child, any time he was stressed, and the killing game put his stress response into overdrive.
“Well, do whatever you want!” Monokuma laughed, “I think you’ll be in for a wet night, regardless. Have fun, boys!”
Korekiyo blinked once, uncertain what that would refer to, but assumed it would become clear in time. “Alright, Kaito, let us retire for the evening, hm?” He glanced at his temporary roommate, saddened to find him looking quite troubled.
“Wha-?” Kaito shook his head, bringing his mind back to the situation that was actively happening, as opposed to what would be in an hour or so, “Right, yeah. Let’s go to bed.”
They walked to their assigned room in a tenuous silence, each rather preoccupied. The room was laid out simply, a bed in between two wardrobes, one for each of their clothes, and a table at the foot of the bed. Their pajamas had been laid out already, a long, black nightgown for Korekiyo, complete with a soft mask for sleeping in, and space themed pajama pants for Kaito, with a big, white diaper sitting right on top.
Kaito dove for it, trying to hide the diaper under his jacket before Korekiyo saw, though he knew it was likely a futile effort.
Korekiyo raised an eyebrow, debating with himself over how to handle that. He was interested, of course, that was unexpected, though made Monokuma’s comment seem to make sense, but he didn’t know exactly what to make of it. And he didn’t know what the kindest thing to do would be either. Pretend he hadn’t seen? Assure him that he wouldn’t tell? He glanced at Kaito’s face. His expression was panicked, which made the decision, he couldn’t let him worry about this all night.
“Kaito?” he ventured softly, crossing the room to his own pajamas.
“Yeah, alright, you saw! Say whatever you want!” Kaito’s worry came out in an angry defense, his voice rose and he stared at Korekiyo defiantly, clenching his fists.
“Are you going to hit me?” Korekiyo’s voice held no anxiety, merely curiosity, and he began unwinding the bandages from his hands.
“I- wha-?” Kaito stuttered, confused by the question, “No! I mean, yeah, if you make me! What?!”
Korekiyo smiled, “I’ll endeavor not to make you hit me, I suppose. But anyway, you don’t need to worry. I’ve nothing to say about your provided attire, either to you or to anyone else.” He folded the bandages and set them to the side, then sat on the bed to unlace his boots.
“Good!” Kaito nodded, voice still inappropriately forceful, “It’s- I- It’s not-” he seemed to deflate, sitting down on the other side of the bed. He could keep up a shouting match, but Korekiyo wasn’t giving him one, and the soft acceptance was almost more embarrassing than if he’d made fun of him. “I know it’s weird, I don’t know what’s going on.”
“Oh?” Korekiyo invited him to continue, placing his shoes by the bed and taking off his hat.
“Yeah, this hasn’t happened for years! I just- like, out of nowhere. I woke up soaked and then the Monokubs showed up and Monophanie got me a box of these,” he held up the diaper, “And I threw out the sheets, I didn’t wanna wear one, but it happened the next night… It’s been every night, so I’m just wearing it, but like, I don’t know why this is happening…”
“I would assume it’s because we’re in a situation wherein our lives are at risk, people handle that stress differently… And this is certainly not unheard of,” Korekiyo shrugged, “It’s nothing to worry about. Nice of them to provide protection, it certainly makes clean up easier, hm?” He rose and unbuttoned his uniform.
“Y-you’re just okay with that?” Kaito blinked at him, “You’re acting like this is normal…”
“Hmm, “normal” … I suppose, it is. Or rather, normal doesn’t enter into my thoughts. This happens to some people sometimes. There’s no need for any sort of value judgment, is there? You can’t help it,” he stepped out of his clothes, folded them, then pulled on the nightgown.
“I- actually, why are you in a dress?” Kaito was momentarily distracted.
“It’s a nightgown,” Korekiyo turned his back to change masks, “I’m uncertain as to why I’m to sleep in this, but I suppose it makes as much sense as any other garment. It’s comfortable enough.”
“But you’re a guy???” Kaito laughed, wondering how he’d missed the obvious.
“Is that how you see me?” Korekiyo shrugged, “Well, guys sometimes wear nightgowns then, don’t they? Just as they sometimes wear diapers. Speaking of, you should change, the evening announcement will be playing in a few minutes.”
“... I- I guess. I don’t think heroes do though,” he sighed and shrugged out of his jacket.
“Quite the contrary,” Korekiyo shook his head, “A hero is someone we want to emulate, yes? Thus someone who is comfortable wearing what they require would be a good one, don’t you think? We wouldn’t want people feeling ashamed of things they can’t change and a hero leads by example.”
Kaito smiled in spite of himself, quickly kicking off his shoes, then dropping his pants and underwear, “You’re right! Nobody should feel bad about needing diapers, so I won’t either! I’ll show people to be proud of themselves!” he pulled the diaper on, for the first time without a wave of shame, then added the pajama pants on top. “Thanks, Kiyo,” he pulled back the blanket and laid down.
Korekiyo smiled fondly, “Of course, happy to be of assistance. You’re always quite inspiring.” He climbed into bed beside him.
