Work Text:
It was the first time that Bakugou had been over since the storm. Even if Midoriya had finally confessed his love for the boy, it was no surprise that he hadn’t really been in a relationship before. Even when Uraraka had asked him out, he had declined, kicking himself at first. He did like her, but, well… there was always someone else in his heart, and that just wasn’t fair to her.
Absentmindedly picking up a replica of his affection, Midoriya found himself fondly eying the Bakugou plusie that he kept at his bedside. It’s tiny angry facial expression, didn’t quite capture the heat from the original, but it was enough to bring a smile that crinkled the freckles on his cheek. Pulling the plushie closer, the forest haired boy couldn’t stop the giddy electricity that went through him as he kicked his legs in the air, still unable to believe it.
[Suddenly, his nose was wet and warm as he exited the hallway. Leaping back in surprise, jade gems looked up in shock to see Bakugou laughing heartedly, “I guess it’s a good thing I fucking love you, too, shitty nerd-” he paused to chuckle, “You really have shitty timing though.”
“You-” he couldn’t believe it, “You really mean it?”
Bakugou sputtered, clearly offended, “No! Not at all! I walked through the pouring fucking rain, after a long ass mission, with your favorite fucking food, because I hate your stupid fucking guts!”
Midoriya giggled, looking off to the side cheekily, “Well, when you put it like that…”]
When the door rattled on its hinges under the assault of some furious knocking, the Pro jumped up, blushing under the smack in the face that reality brought. He was a grown ass man- a Pro Hero at that, acting like a middleschool girl with her first crush… but, coming face to face with Plushugou once more, and remembering Bakugou- his boyfriend-’s expression telling him to put away the plushie…
Well, who could blame him for being happy?
After another round of knocking, however, Midoriya snapped out of his energetic burst and rushed to the door, holding Plushugou just a little bit tighter in his excitement. Bounding down the hallway, the Pro smoothed out the rumples in his pants as he exited the hallway.
Unable to keep the smile off of his face, the boy opened the door to see a pissed off blond tapping his foot impatiently. Biceps bulging from where they tried to escape from the thin black cotton shirt, painfully sculpted pectorals puffed out in annoyance; there was no denying the man in the doorway was Pro Hero: Ground Zero, aka Bakugou Katsuki- Midoriya’s amazing boyfriend!
“Really, Deku? Really?” the blond demanded, stepping in forcefully, not that Midoriya minded though. However, just as the scatterbrained Hero was about to respond, his hotheaded partner spoke up again, “Not only were you late to the door, you just HAD to bring this stupid fake!” Bakugou accused, bending down to poke at Plushugou’s tiny, synthetic face.
Giggling, Midoriya stepped back to find a good enough place to put the stuffed toy down and return to his so-totally-jealous boyfriend, “I’m sorry, Kacchan, I forgot how much you hated my poor plushie~” he teased, eyeing the easily ticked boy.
“I just don’t understand why you need a shitty fake when I’m clearly right fucking here!” Bakugou snapped as if his words had any heat to them whatsoever, “Stupid bastard gets to spend every night here, so why does he have to take up MY limited time?” the blonde grumbled as if his boyfriend couldn’t hear him.
Midoriya only laughed even harder, setting the plush down and turning around with open arms, “I’m sorry, Kacchan, would you like to cuddle?” Expecting a ‘no,’ the freckled boy was expecting to find his arms smacked down, but they weren’t; instead, Bakugou just stepped forward, pressing his nose against the other Hero’s firm chest. Admittedly, emerald gems watered a bit as Midoriya threw his arms around his slightly smaller- but no less strong- boyfriend’s frame. A part of him still couldn’t believe it.
From then on, really, it became a habit of Bakugou’s to be jealous of his plush self…
The second time it happened was purely by accident. His boyfriend had offered to cook a nice dinner on their day off, and Midoriya had forgotten about how he had left Plushugou out on the table. After spotting it on the way to follow Bakugou’s call for him, the innocent Hero had picked it up as a reminder before walking over to listen to his beloved boyfriend bitch about how unorganized his kitchen was.
Bakugou whipped around, mouth open to scold his boyfriend’s messy tendencies when he immediately made eye contact with Plushugou. Something unreadable crossed his face as the blond did something that he had NEVER done before. Bakugou put down his cooking utensils, and /left the stove alone in the middle of cooking/; he only did that when it was an emergency mission or something drastic- even then he cut the stove off.
Not this time.
The blond dropped everything he was doing and booked it towards Midoriya like he was after a villain, but… couldn’t run for some reason.
Squinting his eyes shut and gritting his teeth, prepared for a punch or something- maybe he had told Bakugou that he had a vital ingredient and he didn’t? Perhaps Bakugou had seen one of his latest fights where he was being reckless again? Was it because he hadn’t contacted his mom during the week? Racking his brain, Midoriya steadied himself, one leg back as he braced for an impact… that never came… Instead, Bakugou ripped Plushugou from his arms, practically buried him in the counter, then threw himself into Midoriya’s arms again before grumbling about the fact that he couldn’t find the utensil he needed.
Completely taken aback, it took the Pro almost a whole minute to even realize what Bakugou was saying to begin with.
“It’s, uh-” he took a hesitant step forward, to which his boyfriend didn’t move. Freezing again, Midoriya almost panicked at the action. Unsure of what the temperamental blond wanted, he decided to just scoop Bakugou up, holding his legs as the Hero clung to him like a child almost. When the blond didn’t fight and only rested his head on Midoriya’s shoulder, the broader male took that as an okay and carried his boyfriend to where the utensil he needed was. Sheepishly slinging the extra apron around him, he backed up to the stove, so that Bakugou could still cook while he clung, even if his movements were limited by his partner’s bulk.
They stayed like that until the food was done, with Bakugou resting his chin on his boyfriend’s shoulder, arms barely moving as they wrapped around his expansive chest. The blond had bulked up quite a bit since high school, yet so had Midoriya- thankfully not as much as All Might or Endeavor had, but Bakugou could just barely overlap his hands when his arms were fully wrapped around the male. He was certainly impressive; it was something that scarlet eyes had admired for ages. It was secretly and often from afar, but they both had admired each other for a long while before the storm hit.
“Shit’s done-” Bakugou had grumbled with almost a pout to his voice, like he didn’t want his boyfriend to put him down, and the fact that the food was done was some sort of tragedy.
The third time- or fourth if you counted the night of the thunderstorm- Midoriya wanted to test something. Despite how often they had visited each other, the couple- although they rarely called themselves by that term, preferring the ambiguous “partners”- they had never fallen asleep in each other’s arms since that first night they had gotten together.
Admittedly, Bakugou and Midoriya danced around each other for a while in their relationship. It was awkward, after years of pining, to finally be able to accept their feelings were mutual. Because of that, showing their emotions was difficult. Not to mention, they couldn’t really go on dates outside because of the public, and could only visibly hang out when they were with friends. The only problem was that all of their friends were huge gossips. They couldn’t be trusted with a white lie, let alone the truth. It didn’t help that they had spent most of their time previously fighting for one reason or another in a roundabout way of complimenting and boosting each other up.
It was only reasonable that Midoriya bring Plushugou to their “date night” movie on the couch as an experiment. With their rare displays of affection, the tiny Hero plushie had already been a part of half of them- which irked Midoriya; after pining for so much of his life unable to reach out to the love of his life, he could count the times they had hugged on two hands. In truth, they were both scared of overstepping the other’s boundaries, but didn’t want to force the other to fold to their demands of affection.
Aka they were both touch starved idiots constantly looking for an opportunity without making it weird.
That was why Bakugou got so fucking mad whenever he saw Plushugou happily- angrily, actually, since he was a plushie and had a single facial expression- lodged between Midoriya’s sculpted arms or heavenly chest; that could be Bakugou! That should be Bakugou!
Naturally when that little shit showed up at one of their rarer date nights, the blond was pissed.
Midoriya sat on the other side of the couch like they always did, with a “comforting” gap between them most of the time, but, this time, there was a pop of blond fluff poking out from below his blanket. As the buff Hero adjusted himself, wiggling into the stupid All Might blanket he had wrapped around his insanely broad shoulders, suddenly everything was clear. Plushugou was looking back at him, but Midoriya’s eyes didn’t even flicker over to where his actual boyfriend was sitting across from him on the stupid couch- RESPECTING HIS DISTANCE. No, those stupidly beautiful emerald gems were focused on the screen turning colors with the lighthearted previews as they flashed across his creamy, freckled face.
In a flash, Bakugou crossed the couch, nearly activating his Pro Hero boyfriend’s fight or flight instincts, as he pulled the plushie from his arms and through it across the room. Before Midoriya could even get a single sound from his parted lips, the blond replaced Plushugou, looking at the screen despite the slight heat he could feel tinting his cheeks.
Stealing a glance, garnet eyes caught a face nearly as vivid a hue as their own irises and a breathtaking smile brighter than the sun. With a voice barely above his own thrumming beating heart- although that was quite loud as it lay next to Bakugou’s ever deafening ears.
“You know you can hug me any time, right?” he whispered to his boyfriend, not moving his eyes from the screen in embarrassment.
“Stupid…” Bakugou had grumbled out in response, “I’m the same…”
From there, hugs became more frequent, and Midoriya was even bold enough once to give Bakugou a kiss on the cheek as a goodbye.
That, however, didn’t stop the reign of Plushugou.
The fourth time, not including the thunderstorm, was because Midoriya was having a bad day. After nearly forty eight hours of a steakout, he had to engage in heavy combat with little to no relief, backup had been running late, and he managed to defuse the entire situation before the other Pros had even gotten there. Needless to say, he was flat out exhausted and wanted nothing more than to crawl in bed and sleep for the next week…
The only problem was that the hostage was in critical condition.
He had no way of knowing that they had a victim in the basement; hell, he didn’t until some intern messed up and shot him a text asking about the victim’s status. They had gotten heavily chewed out by Bakugou later, but, the moment Midoriya caught wind of an innocent person being wrapped up in the operation, he couldn’t sleep.
Midoriya had been pacing through the house for a good two hours before Bakugou had finally gotten off work to visit him. He was still in the same three day old clothes he wore for the steak out, but with a blanket around his shoulders and Plushugou in his arms.
Unlike every other time, Bakugou walked over carefully, like Midoriya always did when comforting him. Instead, the explosive Pro gently took Plushugou from his boyfriend’s hands. The soft blond eyebrows would have raised at the notion of being set down gently for once, but, well, it was a plushie and couldn’t move nor feel. Midoriya, however, was thankful that his boyfriend wasn’t abusing his poor comfort toy, almost cracking a smile at the gentle display.
Bakugou had grabbed his boyfriend by the hands, activating his quirk just enough to keep them warm as he guided Midoriya to the couch. Unlike his way of being comforted through fights and loud commotion, the blond was quiet, coaxing Midoriya into his lap despite their size difference and just letting him lay there. Between a blanket and his personal heater boyfriend, the Hero broke down crying. He let all of his worthlessness and self hatred swell up his eyes and temporarily stain his boyfriend’s shirt.
They laid like that until both of them fell asleep- and consequently woke up with terrible back and neck pain, but…
The fifth major time it had happened was the worst, though. After finally finding comfort around each other, the partners were more open with their affections- at home at least. They still had both mutually decided not to tell the public or their friends- worried that their circle would leak it to the public, and there would be a lot of backlash about the fact they didn’t make any personal statements beforehand… It was a mess… Even so, that didn’t stop Midoriya from bringing out Plushugou as a means to tease his boyfriend whenever they were together at his house.
Arguably, it was his fault that the whole ordeal happened.
On the rare occasion that they all had a day- or usually just a time slot- off the BakuSquad, and even some of the Dekusquad sometimes, all got together for a movie. It was usually some dumb romcom or a comedy, but it was a day to relax and forget about Hero stresses. After so long of having a boyfriend to cuddle with, Midoriya was maybe a tad bit lonely as he thought about watching a movie alone again. Even squished between his friends, it didn’t have the same feeling as Bakugou in his lap or them pressed together; he couldn’t focus more on the way their hands clasped one another, fingers intertwined with no intention of letting go, or the heat rolling off of his boyfriend’s shoulder.
Midoriya might have snuck Plushugou with him after catching his beloved boyfriend cuddling it once he got out the shower. The blond was grumbling about how much more time the plush toy got to spend with his boyfriend and demanding to know what was so good about the brightly colored fabrics that made Midoriya want to hold him all the time.
Needless to say, Plushugou smelt like Bakugou, plus he was squishy and holdable for perfect movie time fun. They were supposed to be sitting on the opposite ends of the couch, so the forest haired male figured there was no harm in it being seen during the movie when the real Bakugou would see the friends between them and snap out of his desire.
There was just one thing that he specifically hadn’t taken into account.
Bakugou had been in the kitchen making snacks for the giddy dumbasses sitting around the tv. Midoriya had been rearranging his blanket on the couch beside Todoroki, shamelessly offering the empty seat to the fire quirk user so that he would have some resemblance of warmth. For a brief moment, he set the plushie on his lap to find the solution that would give him the most warmth throughout the movie, but then Bakugou and Plushugou made eye contact.
War bells chimed.
The blond set down the bowl in his hands, immediately ignoring anything that Kaminari was saying to him as he strode forward calmly. Midoriya felt the plushie being picked up from his lap, assuming that Sero or Ashido was going to make fun of him for his hero merch. Instead, he heard the faint trump of Plushugou hitting the table, and suddenly, a warmth was upon him. Bakugou basically straddled his lap, pressing his face against his boyfriend’s chest as he boxed the other’s thighs in with his calves. As the blond wrapped his arms around the broad male, Midoriya was completely trapped.
Red tipped the edges of Bakugou’s ears as he scooted closer as if he were trying to fuse himself to Midoriya. Both males were unbearably embarrassed when the entire room erupted into cackles. Todoroki’s eyebrows raised as he realized what he was unfolding in front of him.
“I can move over if you’d like-” he offered unhelpfully, with a dumb smirk on his face, but he was already giving the two room.
If Bakugou weren’t slowly becoming more and more content between his boyfriend’s pecs, he would have looked over to glare at the heterochromatic male, but neither of them moved until the lights were out and the movie was playing, when no one was watching. However, it was a nice feeling; enjoying each other’s company around their friends, curled up beneath the same blanket stealing small kisses and laughing at the screen with their friends around them.
They had to face hell after that for hiding their relationship status from the crew, and, of course, everyone was sending them congratulations. Both boys were thanking the fact that they had accidentally slipped up to their mothers in the week before the get together or they really would have had to face hell.
Arguably, though, the worst mistake they made was Midoriya’s fault.
It had been a busy week for the both of them as the crunch neared its peak; their Agency was working on a new line of merch for an upcoming anniversary, and the two Heroes had to work long hours doing paperwork and sitting at meetings until finally, they were able to showcase their work to the public. Even if it was just another Hero Expo, their lineup was important to the showcase.
Which meant that they were in front of hundreds- if not thousands- of people. Their fans were ready for even the most subtle of things, but no one was ready for what had actually happened.
Bakugou was the first one to go out on stage, seeing as Midoriya had been helping the staff haul boxes. The blond, whilst waiting for his boyfriend to show up, just so happened to pick up a line of Deku plushies, not unlike Plushugou. For a moment, the entire crowd faded away; it was just him and Plushdoriya as he squished the fuzzy freckled cheeks. Honestly, Bakugou was starting to understand just why Midoriya had invested in one to begin with.
Suddenly, it was taken from his hands, but, before Bakugou could get mad at the fucker who took it, he looked down to see that the Plushdoriya was replaced by… his actual boyfriend. Midoriya didn’t even think twice when doing it, either; he was so trained by the idea of him holding Plushugou when he wanted cuddles from his boyfriend that seeing Bakugou holding his merch clearly meant that he wanted attention.
In front of an entire audience, Pro Hero: Deku took a plushie (of himself no less) from the arms of his Hero partner: Ground Zero, and plopped his head right between the blond’s undoubtedly volatile hands like it was the most natural thing for him.
Of course, Midoriya immediately regretted it, flushing vibrantly the moment he met Bakugou’s gaze, but the explosive Hero pinched and stretched his cheeks, cackling mercilessly at his boyfriend’s stupidity. Despite all of the cameras clicking and fans shouting, they stayed like that for a few moments, just looking into each other’s eyes. Both of them held the position, with Bakugou laughing and Midoriya pouting; neither of them dared to move.
“It’s your fault-” Midoriya grumbled.
“It’s my fuckin fault?”
“It’s all your fault-”
“Well, then I guess this is my fault, too,” Bakugou teased, leaning forward and pulling his face closer until his stupidly tall boyfriend wasn’t hunched over like the letter C as he pressed a tender kiss to Midoriya’s lips. With his hands right where he wanted them, the explosive blond held his boyfriend like a glass masterpiece, smiling sincerely, although it was now hidden behind a mop of green hair.
Of course, they had a lot of questions to answer after that, and the two received a bit of backlash; but they were happy together, from then until forever.
