Chapter Text

July was truly a punishing month for attorneys and anyone that had to wear a suit throughout the day. It's been so hot during the last week that Apollo didn't know he would survive until the end of summer.

And to make things worse, he could only count on a fan in the Wright Anything Agency, once Mr. Wright has made it clear his cost-cutting plan included the use of the AC.

Apollo was drinking what was probably the 30th glass of cold water that day while he went through some files of his last trial. He was setting everything up when he realized something important was missing.

Oh, no. No. Please, no.

Prosecutor Gavin has forgotten to sign one of the papers of their last trial, and Apollo couldn't let this go. But if his signature was missing, that could only mean one thing: he had to go to the prosecutor's office and ask him to sign it. This or ask him to go all the way to the Wright Anything Agency. He'd have to see him, nevertheless.

The defense attorney let out a long sigh. This wasn't the first time Gavin did this, it was almost like he wanted to meet Apollo every now and then outside court. His cheeks felt hotter, and he tried to shake that thought away. There's no way Gavin did that on purpose.

He looked at the clock: almost 2 p.m.

Well, time to pay Klavier Gavin a visit.

The prosecutor's office was dealing with a very rare and inconvenient problem that week. The building had ACs in almost every single office, so going through the summer or any other season had never been an issue for the prosecutors.

Until that day.

The whole system of the building started malfunctioning that morning and the maintenance service was still struggling to find out the source of the problem. The employees were all growing tired of the whole situation, as the heat only made everything worse. Meetings, going through files and reports, phone calls, everything was harder to do when the hot weather took control and they started sweating profusely and their bodies felt like melting.

Klavier opened his wide windows and took off his jacket. He rolled up the sleeves of his black shirt and opened one more button of it.

Nothing seemed to work.

A glass of cold water was his best friend at that point, and it actually helped a lot, but he couldn't stand the amount of sweating on his neck. He went through his drawers to look for a hair tie, maybe it could work.

He found a purple one, and adjusted his long and silky blond hair with his hands, tying it up on a ponytail. He looked at himself in the mirror and smiled. It was actually a very nice and lovely hairstyle, it suited him quite well. He felt relieved, refreshed, and gorgeous. God, how has he never thought about that before?

But work was far from over, so back to it. He sat on his chair and continued to write one of his many reports for the week. When he was finally concentrated, his phone rang. He groaned slightly at it.

"Yes?"

"Mr. Gavin, Mr. Justice is here to see you. May I let him in?" asked the secretary.

Klavier smiled through the phone.

"Sure, ja, no problem." The prosecutor tried his best to keep professional.

"Please, go on, Mr. Justice, and forgive us once again for the inconvenience with the AC today," the secretary turned to Apollo after hanging up the phone.

"It's fine, really. Thank you," he responded and headed to Klavier's office.

He knocked on the door twice and waited for the prosecutor to give him permission to enter.

"Come in."

When he entered the room, he was ready to say "excuse me", but the words never left his mouth. As soon as he laid his eyes on Klavier, he felt his heart skip a beat. The prosecutor looked at him expectantly, with his beautiful blue eyes and a small smile on his lips.

Apollo couldn't help but stare at this new image of Klavier Gavin. The rolled up sleeves, his chest more exposed than normal, and his hair. God, prosecutor Gavin with a ponytail was something Apollo never imagined he would see someday, but there he was. His bangs were gently messed, and the ponytail reached his shoulder, touching it. It was so delicate and hot at the same time, it was perfect.

"Herr Forehead? Is everything okay? Here, have some water, you look dizzy," he offered Apollo a glass of water, taking him out of his trance.

"I'm sorry! I just… yes, it's been hard today, hasn't it? Thank you, prosecutor Gavin!" he said quickly and accepted the glass of water. His heart was beating so fast right now and Klavier was even closer, it was hard to think properly.

Klavier made a face at him and held back a chuckle. The defense attorney seemed uneasy, nervous for some reason. It was cute as hell.

"So… I'm sorry for the whole situation here today. They're trying to fix it, but there's no progress yet, as you can see. But, well, nothing we can do about it, ja?" Klavier smiled at him and got back to his chair.

"It's fine. I mean, not that I enjoy the heat, but you don't have to apologize. It's been ridiculously hot back in the office, too. I might faint anytime soon," he chuckled, and Klavier followed him. God, this heat is really getting into him, because he is feeling dizzy by the simple sound of Gavin's laughter.

"Then take a seat, please. I don't want my favorite defense attorney to pass out like this," he said before he could even think, but he kept smiling.

He was always smiling around Apollo.

Apollo felt something funny on his stomach, and took a seat across from Klavier, but couldn't really look directly at him. When he looked down at his briefcase, he remembered why he came all the way to the prosecutor's office.

"Ah! I need you to sign this, prosecutor Gavin!" Apollo opened the briefcase and took out a file, putting it on Klavier's desk.

"Oh, I see. I forgot to sign again, ja?" he said, chuckling. "I'll do it right away, give me a second."

While the prosecutor read the paper before signing it, Apollo got distracted by his beautiful image. He could see his collarbone and a glimpse of his chest that glowed with sweat. His arms were slim, but toned and beautiful. His skin was flawless as always, his blue eyes so vivid and bright at the sunlight that invaded the whole room.

But his hair, oh his hair. The defense attorney had never seen him going for that hairstyle before, and couldn't take his eyes off it. It gave him this summer vibe, it was cute, stylish and sexy at the same time. It suited him so well. Summer did have its perks, after all.

"Here, all done. Need anything else?" Klavier asked.

Apollo blinked a few times, trying to collect his thoughts. "Thank you, prosecutor Gavin! No, that's all I needed," he responded.

"Are you sure? You seem anxious."

"Me? No, I'm fine! Absolutely fine. It's just that I couldn't help but notice that your hair is…"

Beautiful.

"Different," he chose to say.

"Oh. Well, I was sweating like crazy earlier, so I figured it'd be nice to tie it up. Is it weird?"

"No! I mean, no," he was having a hard time trying not to look like he absolutely loved it. "It suits you, really."

Klavier looked at him surprised, but pleased. "Thank you, Herr Forehead," he leaned in with both hands under his chin and elbows on his desk. "Your compliments always surprise me."

He smiled genuinely at him, and Apollo melted. But he couldn't let it show. It wasn't like Klavier Gavin, the rockstar prosecutor would be so flattered with Apollo Justice complimenting him. He is pretty used to all sorts of compliments, anyway.

"As if," the defense attorney rolled his eyes and cracked a smile.

"What, don't believe me?" Klavier looked astonished.

"Why would my compliments surprise you? You hear tons of it from everyone every time," he shrugged, packing his things and standing up to leave.

"But yours are pretty uncommon. It's a different thing entirely," he made a pause, as if collecting some guts to continue, "it means a lot," he confessed, looking at Apollo with a gentle smile.

The brunette didn't know what to say, his heart was racing. So he tried to manage the situation as best as possible, and without showing how embarrassed he actually was.

"I'm sorry, but that won't work, prosecutor Gavin. We are still facing each other tomorrow in court, and that won't make me go easier on you," he said, trying to smirk.

Klavier chuckled and leaned back on his chair. He couldn't stop smiling. "Oh, no, I would never, your defense is way too strong for that, Herr Forehead. At this point, I know exactly who I'm dealing with."

Apollo could feel himself blush, his face getting hotter.

"You'd better do. See you tomorrow, prosecutor Gavin," he managed to say.

"See you tomorrow," Klavier stated, already excited to see him again the next day.

He watched the defense attorney close the door and leave. He was so impossibly cute Klavier couldn't help himself. He sighed and looked through the window, wondering if he will ever be able to tell Apollo how he really felt towards him.

The chief prosecutor Miles Edgeworth observed as Apollo left Klavier's office, thinking that it must've been the 4th time he's seen the defense attorney there in the last weeks. He was intrigued, the prosecutor's office was barely a place for defense attorneys, after all. He decided to clarify his doubts for good.

Miles knocked on the door. "Mr. Gavin, may I come in?"

"Sure. Please, come in," Klavier declared.

As he entered the room, he was surprised by the prosecutor's style. "I see you've… adapted yourself due to this terrible heat, Mr. Gavin," he declared, but it didn't sound like a verbal warning, just a surprised statement.

"I guess I do look different with my hair tied up, don't I?" he chuckled.

"It's quite different, yes, but I believe it's in fact appropriate considering the current situation."

Klavier was pretty used to the way his boss complimented him, so he just smiled and nodded.

"Is everything all right?" Gavin questioned, curious about the sudden visit.

"This is actually what I was about to ask you, Mr. Gavin." He closed the door and stood next to it. "May I ask why Apollo Justice has been coming here lately? It's been quite frequently, to be honest." His expression was serious, as always, but his voice was soft, curious. Like a concerned father.

Klavier blushed, which was a strong evidence for Miles. Apparently, prosecutors falling for defense attorneys was common in this office.

"It's just that I've forgotten to sign some papers, so Herr Justice has brought them to me to get my signature. It's a total professional issue."

"Are you sure? Because as I previously stated, it's been frequent, Mr. Gavin." Miles lifted up one eyebrow at him.

Klavier gulped. "Too much work, maybe my memory is failing a bit," he lied, chuckling nervously.

"It seems like a different thing entirely, though. I have no objections to Mr. Justice coming here, he's a noble man, according to what I've seen since I married Wright. But if you're trying to get his attention by pretending to forget to sign some papers, I suggest you attempt a different approach." Miles smirked, letting Klavier speechless.

You can't fool Miles Edgeworth. He is a prodigy, chief prosecutor, master of logic, and he's married to Phoenix Wright. He knows what is like falling for your courtroom rival.

Klavier should've known better than trying to dodge his cross-examination. He sighed, embarrassed.

"I don't know," he confessed. "We're on good terms, we help each other, but sometimes I can't figure him out."

"Has he ever scolded you for not signing the papers?"

Klavier had never thought about it, but he was confused with that question. "No, not a single time."

The look on Miles' eyes was soft, and he smiled slightly. "Then I believe you will figure him out, Mr. Gavin. Now, if you excuse me, I have to get back to work," he declared, and nodded before leaving the room.

Klavier just nodded back, still puzzled by this whole conversation. He sighed, playing with his hair and humming whatever song that came to mind.

Apollo has never scolded him for not signing the papers. He actually didn't seem to bother coming all the way to Klavier's office just to get it done. And he looked impressed with Klavier's ponytail earlier. Maybe it caused a good impression, he even complimented the prosecutor.

Does he even like my hair?

My hair…

Another kind of approach, huh? What if…

Then something clicked in his mind.
