Work Text:

"The boss's been real catty lately. Who know's what'll set him off."

Nishida's words echoed inside Kiryu's brain as if it were a cave devoid of life. It was all he could think about. He trusted Majima-san, of course he did, but there was an inkling he couldn't quite shake that something about this interaction would be different from all the other before somehow. Of course, Kiryu was leaving the mainland for Okinawa for good, nothing about saying a goodbye so permanent was bound to be normal.
Ascending in the elevator for the last of what seemed like not nearly enough times in proportion to his days spent in Kamurocho, he began to recount the memories of times he spent with Date-san, with Yuya and Kazuki, with Haruka...with Majima.
Kiryu arrived at the open-air rooftop, a picturesque image in the distance, in front of him; cropped black hair, the back of a snakeskin jacket and leather trousers, few shades lighter than his hair. He could tell Majima had noticed his arrival but didn't turn to face him in favour of watching the stars overhead. Kiryu pored over the Kanto skyline speckled with red lights from cellphone towers, apartments and offices with their lights still on. A home to the salaryman working late hours - surely envious of the leisure granted to the two men suspended above the city.
Kiryu prepared himself via a deep inhalation. Nervous, he ambled towards Majima's back, a dark hannya peeking playfully out from behind the serpent skin as he leant against the railings. "I heard yer bailin' on Kamuro for good." Majima was the first to break the silence. Kiryu smirked internally. 'confrontational as ever' he thought. Though, the older man's eyes were still glued to the stars. It was then that Kiryu realised he knew more of Majima's quirks than he had originally thought. His secret softness, as Nishida warned, the way he would avoid eye contact if he could, his exaggeratedly lax gait.
"I'm afraid so...but that's exactly why i'm here."
Kiryu had gotten the elder's attention now.
"Eh?"
If Kiryu said any more, this farewell wouldn't last much longer. For years of solidarity, Majima was worth much more than a curt goodbye.
"I'm grateful," he stalled, noticing he was losing the other man's interest.
"Kiryu chan, just tell me what yer up here for, I got things to be doin'" He relaxed his wrist, pulling his cigarette languidly around in circles.
Kiryu could tell he had nothing to he doing, and that what he said was a lie.
"You...you're upset. You're upset im leaving."
Kiryu thought out loud, inching closer to Majima, invading his personal space.
He got up from perching by the ledge and turned fully around to face Kiryu now.
"Ya gone mad? 'course I am, 'course I'm gonna miss ya..." he pinched the bridge of his nose "I can't say sappy shit like this, ya know me, I can't!" his voice dropped octaves "You know so bad I wanna thank ya, fer all ya done Kiryu-chan."
Kiryu was unsure how to feel. Beneath his eyes he felt heat creeping up, telling Majima the truth. Though he'd never heard him say until now, Kiryu had always known the mad dog had appreciated him, but the way his voice dropped and the tenderness in his voice couldn't help but confirm there was something deeper there.
The two were leaning against the railings, side by side now, both unsure of how to continue. As if he heard Kiryu's silent plea for guidance, a leather-clad hand jutted out to knock Kiryu's when he realised the hand was holding a half-finished cigarette.
"Well?"
Kiryu was unsure of what this gesture meant but snatched the cigarette and put it to his lips anyway.
Something about this particular cigarette made Kiryu believe it was the best he'd had in his life.
He parted with it, and Majima took a drag.
"That yer first kiss?" He teased.
It was quite possible that not a single person in the world knew what Majima thought and how he calculated his movements. He was so complex and difficult to read - Kiryu had said so himself - but as mysterious as the mad dog was nothing could have prepared him for this moment.
Kiryu moved himself from beside Majima and glided his hands underneath the elder's jacket, caressing his sides. Majima hissed, and his breath hitched, but he did not object. Kiryu lowered his head so that his mouth was inches away from Majima's ear. "Goro..." He rumbled "Thank you. Please, let me say goodbye to you the way you deserve."
Majima's eyelashes fluttered against the younger man's cheek, feeling each other's warmth the two became locked in a desperate embrace, each of them making an effort not to cry. This is the difference Kiryu had wanted, he knew this meeting would be unique for them but not in the way he could have imagined.
"Before I go," Kiryu cupped his hand to the cheek of the man in front of him, stroking gently with his calloused thumb. "I'm glad I got to see you."
