melt me down

Summary:

In the turbulent times of political tension sometimes you have to set aside your dislike for certain people.

Min Yoongi and Park Jimin, top students at a military academy get put together as a trainers for their friends and younger students while the experienced warriors move to the border to protect their country.

At first Jimin is sure they can handle this responsibility like adults but he quickly realizes that nothing is easy when it comes to Min Yoongi. He can't handle Yoongi and even if he can't explain why, he refuses to change his opinion on the man and his constant attempts at railing Jimin up.

But things can change quickly when you have to be very close to the very man you think you dislike.

Work Text:

Getting called in to the general’s office is never a good sign.

Jimin got the call into the office when he was taking a break from decorating for the Summer Fire Festival, enjoying late afternoon sun with a few of his friends. His friends sent him off with sympathetic smiles, promising to talk to him later to find out what he had gotten in trouble for.

It’s not so hard to get in trouble at The Academy but during his years here, Jimin managed to mostly do well and stay on the good side of every teacher and trainer. He works hard, however, he has few ideas on why he could get in trouble.

All the way to the office, Jimin chews on his bottom lip nervously. Did he do something wrong? He did fly over the tallest tower last week but they would be called in immediately if they would be in trouble and Jungkook would also be there. It was Jungkook’s idea and Jimin is just too easy to pressure into doing something. So that's probably not it. The only other thing that comes to mind are his endless fights with Min Yoongi. Sure, he has been butting heads with Min during exercises lately but that’s because Yoongi refused to practice with him even after they were paired together. So if anyone should be called in, it should be Yoongi.

Jimin knocks on the old wooden door, opening them as soon as he hears a muffled “Come in”.

As soon as he pushes the door open he has to physically stop himself from rolling his eyes when he realizes who sits inside. Yoongi doesn’t even turn around, sitting unnaturally straight in the uncomfortable chair.

“Should I wait outside?” Jimin asks, ready to close the door.

“I wanted to talk to you both,” their general says shaking his head. “Come in, sit down.”

Jimin nods, taking careful steps in. He tries to push the chair slightly away from Yoongi. The general surely didn’t miss that if the way he looks between them two with confusion is anything to go by. Yoongi is less gentle with the way he moves to the side, his chair making a horrible sound.

“Okay.” The general says, clearly confused. “As you guys might know, things between us and our neighbours are not looking too good.” Jimin furrows his eyebrows, making a small sound of acknowledgement. Usually higher ups don’t talk to students about those things.

“It’s not a secret that we are preparing for a possible war,” he continues. “I will be taking a big portion of our men's power from here to the north border, including officers who are in charge of training.”

Jimin’s heart skips a bit anxiously. His father, who's a retired officer, spoke with his mother about the growing tension and a possibility for an army draft. It’s stressful for Jimin to think about his father going to war even if he is an excellent officer with years of experience. But he isn’t scared of going to war himself. He is sure he can take on that role. In the end, that’s what he is here for, to fight for his country one day.

“I wouldn’t be able to be in charge of such a huge number of soldiers on my own, it’s impossible.” The general explains himself. “I need those men with me.”

“Then what will happen with all of us?” Yoongi asks. “Are we being sent away home?”

“I would rather go to war,” Jimin says, throwing Yoongi a nasty glance. “I don’t want to hide away.”

Yoongi tenses, his jaw setting, “I didn’t say anything about hiding, I asked a que-”

“Please,” the general pleads with a tired sigh. “You guys are not going to war, you’re not ready for that.” He rubs his temples. Both Jimin and Yoongi tense, their dragon egos visibly hurt by that comment. “There is another plan,” He looks between them. ”but seeing that you two can’t get alone even with me in the room...” He mumbles under his breath.

Jimin’s interest spikes at that, “What plan?”

The general looks at both of them with a stern eye, “With the board we made a decision to put you two, the best students of the last year, in charge of physical practice since other classes are done.” Jimin almost gasps, breath stuck in his throat.

In the corner of his eye he can see Yoongi’s mouth dropping open, his skin becoming even more pale than it already is, “We’re being put in charge?”

“Don’t be so scared,” the officer says, “You already lead practice many times.”

Jimin stutters, “But that’s different.”

The general gets up, a clear indication that the conversation is over, “The only thing that is different from any other time is that you guys,” he looks between Jimin and Yoongi, “have to get along and work together.” He raises an eyebrow at them, “We believe you will do good, it’s just training.” He shrugs. “Don’t look at me like I’m sending you off to a war on your own.”

Jimin tells his friends everything as soon as he gets back to Taehyung's and his shared room. Jungkook is also there, as expected since he follows wherever Taehyung goes. It’s an Alpha thing, even if Taehyung will deny it with blushed cheeks. Jungkook already made up his mind to court Taehyung, that’s not a secret, and he will stay protective of his chosen omega no matter at what cost. In this case Jungkook has it easy, since they were attached by their hips even before he fell in love.

They take the information with much more excitement than Jimin, who’s stomach keeps on clenching nervously.

“So what now, I have to call you officer?” Taehyung asks from his top bunk, chewing loudly on his apple.

“No,” Jimin scrunches his face before he sighs deeply. “Don’t even try doing that.”

“At least I’ll be able to go to the bathroom now.” Jungkook says from the floor, picking on a loose strand of his huge, black sweater.

Jimin chuckles at that, rolling his eyes. He can’t help but always finds Jungkook extra cute with his wavy hair flopping around, huge black hoodies and combat shoes. He really doesn't blame Taehyung for falling for him. He is all that a good alpha needs to be and way more with his gentle nature.

Jungkook might be an alpha but he is the softest looking one. Jimin remembers the first time he saw Jungkook in dragon form. They stood there completely shocked by the blackness of his scales and his hide, his huge sharp teeth. He looked nothing like the Jungkook they all knew, with bunny teeth and cute laugh.

“You pee a lot,” Taehyung points out, screaming as he gets attacked by a pillow flying his way.

“I’m just hydrated.” Jungkook screams, his face getting extremely red.

Taehyung easily takes the opportunity to tease Jungkook. It’s all good fun and more often than not they simply use it as a poor excuse to tackle each other, which is simply scenting each other without admitting to it.

They are ridiculous.

“I can’t handle you two,” Jimin whines as Jungkook starts untying his shoes to go up on the bed. “You are always like this, just kiss already.”

Jungkook raises an eyebrow at him, “Speak for yourself and your never ending sexual tension with mister Alpha Min.” Jimin sputters, raising so fast he almost hits his head on the top bed.

Taehyung pops up in Jimin’s vision, hanging down from his bed, “And stop telling us to kiss.”

“What are you talking about?!” Jimin screams, “I hate him! He is ugly! Ew!” He fake gags. “Why would you ever say there is anything sexual between me and him!” Jimin says quickly in his defence, feeling heat etching its way onto his cheeks.

“Very mature of you,” Jungkook says slowly. “We totally believe you.”

Taehyung smirks, “You are completely not jealous of any omega that comes his way.”

Jimin finds it ridiculous how easily he gets flustered whenever his friends start teasing him about his alleged feelings for Yoongi. He has no idea why he feels like this and why his face becomes so hot whenever his friends start to tease him like this. He admitted to them once that Yoongi smells kinda nice and he hasn’t had a single day of peace since then.

Jimin gets up, taking his shoes from the little shoe rack by their room door, “You know what,” He says, “I don’t have to listen to this slander. You’ll pay for it when I’ll make you two run extra kilometers.”

He leaves his friends behind, hearing their laughter even as he walks down the corridor, his shoes in his hand. He wants to scream or punch a wall, or maybe punch Yoongi’s broad chest. But first and foremost, he needs to hide from his friends because he doesn’t know how to react to those comments and how to prove his friends wrong.

Jimin doesn't like Yoongi. He finds his annoying, nothing else. Maybe a bit handsome but that’s beside the point.

”What the fuck?” Jimin whispers under his breath at the last thought, turning the corner towards the main roofed training area. At that hour it should be empty and he hopes to give a punching bag a few good blows.

He isn’t really angry with his friends, he just would rather leave than sit through another round of teasing. He has been struggling with it for a while, that weird warm feeling deep under all the anger he feels towards Yoongi. It just hits him in his guts sometimes, taking his breath away.

The first time it happened, Jimin was just minding his business, helping one omega with her posture during sword training when his eyes caught Yoongi smiling, chatting with a small group of people. At first he didn’t understand what was that quick spark he felt, brushed it off and didn’t let it distract him from his task at hand. It wasn’t until it was late at night and Taehyung was snoring lightly above him that he started to think, feeling anxiety spread through his whole body. He can’t start liking Yoongi.

The gym is dark and empty when Jimin walks in. He easily finds the light switch, quickly moving to what he came here for. He warms up after he puts on his shoes, wraps his hands and moves to the position.

The sound of fists hitting the leather bag echo around the empty space, his shoes squeaking on the floor. He is so focused that he doesn’t realize he is no longer alone. When suddenly big, veiny hands grab onto the bag, stopping it from swaying Jimin almost screams. His eyes shoot up, his body ready to fight whoever just scared the shit out of him.

“There you are.” Yoongi says when their eyes meet.

Yoongi looks at him from behind the punching bag with a lazy gaze, looking like he doesn’t want to be there. Jimin rolls his eyes before he goes back to punching the bag, this time harder, making Yoongi struggle with holding the bag in place. “You have nothing better to do?” Jimin asks, feeling anger pooling inside him.

“General Choi sent me to tell you we have to be up early in the morning for a meeting.” Yoongi says loudly and slowly.

Jimin furrows his brows, hitting the bag even harder, “I’ll be there.” He says through gritted teeth.

He thinks that the conversation is over but Yoongi doesn’t move, his hands staying firmly on the punching bag. For a second Jimin thinks about accidentally aiming at his nasty hands. He quickly shakes off that idea, trying his best to ignore Yoongi staring at him.

“You better not sleep through it.” Yoongi says suddenly after a moment of very tense silence.

Jimin grits his teeth, squeezing his fists tighter and punching the bag so hard Yoongi has to take a step back, “Get out or I’ll punch you.”

Yoongi takes his hands away but not before he mumbles something, way too quiet for Jimin to hear and it finally makes him snap.

“What did you say?” He asks, catching the bag before it can sway back right at him.

Yoongi is already halfway out of the gym. He turns around with a glint in his eyes that can mean only one thing, Jimin took the bite. Again.

“I said,” Yoongi says loudly as if Jimin couldn’t hear him from where he stands. “You can’t even lay a good punch!” He practically screams at the top of his lungs. “I would punch you once and you would run out crying!”

Jimin gasps, “You bitch!”

He takes off, running behind Yoongi. They are both equally fast, always fighting over first spot at sprints. Their loud footsteps and screams are echoing around corridors. As they run down the dorm corridors many doors open, people peeking out to see what is happening at this late hour.

Yoongi started with a small advantage but Jimin is soon stomping over his heels.

“Come back here!” Jimin screams, feeling his heart racing with pure anger. “You are such a fucking coward!”

Yoongi just laughs, speeding up.

Jimin wishes they could be outside now. Right now, looking at Yoongi’s back he wants nothing more than to burn him with his fire, “I’ll fry your bony ass!” He screeches on the top of his lungs.

“Run faster then!” Yoongi screams back, taking a sharp turn.

Jimin feels triumph as he grabs onto Yoongi’s cotton shirt. Suddenly he runs straight into Yoongi who almost falls face first into General Choi. Before Jimin or Yoongi can say anything, the general simply sends them off to their room, making sure they understand this won’t be simply forgotten.

Seeing off thousands of dragons he got used to seeing every day is dreadful. Jimin can’t swallow the deep anxiety he feels when he salutes his officers and watches them fly off into the distance to stay ahead and keep the rest who will walk with their equipment safe. Jimin remembers seeing situations like this in history books and fiction but experiencing it first hand is the scariest thing he has ever experienced thus far in his life.

Yoongi is right by his side, with a few others who are left behind to care for and manage the younger generation. Jimin doesn't feel even slightly annoyed with his partner today, trying his best to not disappoint people who put so much trust in them.

He is a bit tired, feeling emotionally drained and a bit sluggish from lack of sleep. The morning meeting felt like it would never end. They got a set of plans and rules they have to follow. To keep them both in check the general decided to leave a scribe with them, Kim Jisung whose task is to monitor them and note everything that’s happening at the training center. With every minute Jimin could feel the weight of the responsibility slowly pushing him to the ground.

The fact that people Jimin looks up to decided that he is able to be in charge of almost one hundred young soldiers is scary. Jimin always dreamed about a position like this but he had never expected he would be put in it at twenty three years old with his partner being the only alpha he always butts heads with.

Jimin and Yoongi didn’t even pay much attention to each other at the meeting, both tired and nervous. They both were doing their best to do well seeing the amount of responsibility put on their shoulders. They might be not really fond of each other but Jimin hopes they both understand this is something much bigger than their petty fights.

“We hope you guys can find friendship in this responsibility.” Said one of the officers before their departure.

Jimin will try and make this work if not for himself he will do it for the whole team that is now leaning on his and Yoongi’s rocky relationship.

Or that was the bigger person's plan for it. Not even an hour after Jimin and Yoongi are officially put in charge they have their first argument. It’s nothing big, really, a petty fight that could have been easily avoided. But it happens and it happened in the middle of the line to the food table, in front of everyone who should be now earning their respect.

Jimin’s eyes are zeroed on his favorite kind of bun, anxiously watching as the stack becomes smaller and smaller. Directly in front of him stands Yoongi, quietly picking up a portion of rice. Jimin’s heart almost sings with joy when they move and he can almost reach the last bun. That is until Yoongi reaches out for the last bun.

“Yah!” Jimin scream-whispers. “That’s mine!”

Yoongi turns around slowly, raising his eyebrow at Jimin, “I don’t see your name on it.”

“Come on,” He whines. “It’s the last one.”

Yoongi hums, a small smirk appearing on his lips, “And it’s mine.”

“No,” Jimin says stearily. “You don’t even like them.” Jimin tries to reach behind Yoongi to take the bun from the plate.

“Can you guys move? I’m starving.” Somebody down the line asks.

Yoongi grabs the bun before Jimin can, lifting it above his head, “And how do you know what I like and what I don’t like?” He asks, humming teasingly.

Automatically Jimin can feel heat coming up to his face, “Are you interested in me?” Yoongi keeps going.

Jimin rolls his eyes, trying to control his emotions, “You fucking wish.” He says it too loud, judging by the way the chatter and sounds of dishes stops instantly. “Now give me the fucking bun!”

“Then take it!” Yoongi responds in a raised voice, matching Jimin’s volume. “Or are you too short?”

“We’re the same height!” Jimin points his finger right into Yoongi’s face. “You have just weirdly long arms!”

Yoongi’s face goes red at that, “You have just weirdly small arms!” He responds childishly.

“No comebacks to that, huh?” Jimin laughs, standing on his toes to try and reach the bun. “Give it to me.”

“Then come and take it!”

Jimin grips his tray tightly with his one arm, doing his best not to spill his food, “Just give it to me!”

“Come closer and take it!”

“No, I won’t come closer!” Jimin screams back.

“Shy?!” Yoongi says mockingly.

“You stink!”

Their attention takes a loud, very fake cough. They both look to their side, at the very first table. Scribe Kim looks at them with disbelief, writing it down before he goes back to sipping on his soup.

Finally Yoongi puts the bun on Jimin’s table, walking off without a word. Jimin feels like a winner as he watches Yoongi walk between the tables with a red neck and people whispering around him.

He walks off to his own table with a smile on his face but with each step he feels more and more shy. Everyone’s eyes are back on him seeing that Yoongi disappeared somewhere at his own table.

“What happened?” Taehyung asks as soon as Jimin puts down his tray.

Jimin huffs, very aware of the many eyes turned his way, “He wanted to take the last blueberry jam bun.”

“Jimin-” Seokjin whines, rolling his eyes.

“What?! Jimin what?!” He furrows his eyebrows at the older friend. “He doesn’t even like them!”

Taehyung raises his brow, sending Seokjin a look, “No, Tae.” Seokjin says. “Leave it be.”

“What?” Jimin asks, looking between his friends.

Taehyung smirks turning to Jimin, “Maybe he wanted it for a pretty omega.”

Something ugly and dark swirls in the pit of Jimin’s stomach. He scrunches his nose, focusing on his breakfast. He takes the bun, ignoring the rest of the food and bites into it possessively, “I got it so he can go suck their ass instead.” He says with his mouth full, trying to swallow down that bitter taste he hates to feel whenever Taehyung teases him like that.

“Oh God,” Seokjin groans, “I’ll go find Namjoon. I’m tired of this and it’s only eight in the morning.”

“It’s gonna be like this for a few months now,” Taehyung laughs at the way Seokjin twists his face in pure pain. “Every day.”

“No, it won’t!” Jimin mumbles with his face full.

“War was always an option,” Jungkook says with a smile as soon as he is close enough, try full of food in his hands, looking straight at Seokjin. “Aren’t we glad we stayed behind?”

“We could always chase them, it’s never too late.” Seokjin throws over his shoulder, walking away into the direction where his boyfriend usually sits with his friends, Yoongi included.

“You guys are way too dramatic.” Jimin whines. “Of course we will be acting differently during practice.” He assures his friends. “We are adults.”

***

For the first week there isn’t anything major happening. The transition from students to full time trainers is a bit hard but they somehow manage.

Jimin keeps in mind the scribe, making sure he can’t see him roll his eyes at Yoongi every single day. Other than little passive aggressive comments and faces they try their best to stay civil, often dropping the issue before it will blow up. But something there is to fight over, Jimin and Yoongi have completely different styles and techniques in every possible discipline you could think of.

It’s not easy to ignore Yoongi’s little remarks and comments. Especially if Jimin knows there is a better way to do something, that Yoongi’s techniques are working for him but many will struggle. Yoongi has natural abilities that help him with many things in life and he simply doesn't understand that omegas and betas need to use more of their muscle power to do things that Yoongi shrugs off as easy and expects them to repeat after him with ease.

In some way Jimin doesn’t blame him, it’s not his fault he was born naturally stronger, Jungkook and Seokjin also struggle with understanding that Jimin and Taehyung are working harder for the same result. Jungkook almost hurt Taehyung more than once when they were play-fighting, especially in the human form. As dragons things are different, the rank doesn’t have any impact on your physical abilities or your size.

Jimin knows better ways for many things, often sharing his information with other omegas who train with him. He knows his body better than anyone else and he managed to figure out ways that help him build the strength he needs. This is why he is now standing next to Yoongi, not another alpha. He is on the top of the last year with Yoongi, sharing first place in grades and in battle. Because of this many omegas and betas look up to him and he always helps them with joy in his heart.

Yoongi doesn’t understand that Jimin wants to help omegas and betas. It’s easy to see that Yoongi takes his comments very personally. Jimin isn’t trying to hurt his alpha ego and he tries his best to be as nice and respectful of Yoongi as possible, even if he really wants to scream at him.

One day it had to blow up in their faces, Jimin was prepared but he didn’t realize how bad it could be once he and Yoongi blew up. They were both simmering all of this on the back burner, trying to focus on the task at hand. Maybe they shouldn't, maybe they should have met after practice every day and fist fight to let out all of their frustration. Or maybe they should talk, just like Namjoon told them after a break one day.

It’s a hot summer day and today they are supposed to practice hand to hand combat. There are many people they have to monitor, even after they split people into groups. It’s much easier for them to pay attention if the group is smaller but because of it they are spending the whole day together, practicing with every group. Jimin is very against taking a break, wanting every group to have the same experience but it’s exhausting.

Jimin is in a bad mood since their first practice with a group of older alphas. Usually groups are mixed but there are groups of highly elite alphas who look down on omegas and betas in the military. These are one of those, a whole group of assholes. Jimin tried his best to keep professional but he could see that they don’t care about his input.

One comment especially sits to him through the day. The alpha in question was not doing too well, he was making a lot of mistakes. All Jimin wanted to do was to correct his posture but the alpha only barked at him, “Alpha Min, why is an omega telling me what to do?”

Yoongi really did his best to not escalate the issue but it didn't help much. Jimin is angry since then, feeling deeply hurt and the need to prove himself. His body is screaming for a break but he doesn’t want to give those stinky alphas a reason to treat him like he is worse.

When Jimin was younger he struggled a lot, he practiced for hours to keep up with alphas his age and even some that were younger. His body was much wearer and alphas used it as a reason to punch Jimin around. Since then, Jimin is working hard to be seen as equal because even if in the society omegas and betas are the same as alphas, there are those who think otherwise.

“Maybe you should sit for a bit,” Yoongi comments when the fifth group for the day wraps up, leaving the open practice area.

Jimin chugs down half of a bottle of water, feeling sweat dripping down his body. His shirt is sticking to his body, making him feel dirty but he doesn’t want to practice without a shirt when he and Yoongi have to be so close to demonstrate. After two classes it’s no longer as awkward, they stay in their line most of the time, jumping away from each other as soon as they are done.

They are doing it the whole day without a break, since they would end this day way into the night otherwise. Yoongi himself took a small break, sat down on a bench and just watched from afar, eating a very late lunch. Jimin, on the other hand, feels the need to prove himself, to Yoongi. He is an omega but he can handle practicing all day. Yoongi never told him anything that would aim at his rank making him weaker, it’s an issue that Jimin deals with since he was little and by now he can’t help but always assume everyone has him for a weakling.

Yoongi’s comment lights up the piled up annoyance from the last few days like gasoline, setting everything off immediately.

“I don’t need a fucking break,” Jimin barks back, taking attention of new students getting ready for the training, between them Jungkook, Taehyung and Hoseok, Yoongi’s best friend.

Yoongi sighs, “Relax a bit, huh?” He says lightly, hands on his hips, sweaty white shirt showing black ink all over Yoongi’s skin. “Just sit down for a moment.”

Jimin grits his teeth, “Stop telling me what to do! Why do you think you hold any authority over me?!”

“I don’t think that!” Yoongi says calmly, rolling his eyes. “You are tired, I can see that.”

“Yeah, right! Because you care for me!” Jimin takes a step back, pushing Yoongi. “What’s the real reason?! Is it because it hurts your ego that I’m here?! You don’t like it?”

“I don’t fucking care that you’re an omega!” Yoongi barks back, pushing Jimin. “I don’t know who you think I am but you don’t know me for shit!”

“And I don’t want to know you!” Jimin screams, pushing Yoongi back. “You’re all the same!”

Yoongi growls, ”For you to be like other omegas you would have to smell nice.”

There is a collective gasp around them. Telling an omega they smell bad is one of the worst insults you could say. Alphas are not that affected by it, mainly focusing on their abilities to provide. Alphas are much more skilled than omegas, making their smell so much more important in their lives. Having a bad scent is one of the main insecurities omegas struggle with. Telling an omega that they smell bad is a form of rejection.

And even if Jimin is a strong, independent omega who fights as well as an alpha, he carries huge pride in his scent. So it hurts.

Jimin never initiated a physical fight. He can be mouthy sometimes and can be proud of his physical strength but he never used it like that. Until now.

Before the gasp is fully quiet Jimin throws himself at Yoongi, attacking him with way less skill and grace that he shows during practice. Pure anger pushes him into action. Yoongi is taken aback, completely surprised by the attack. They had been fighting for over three years but it never before got even close to being physical.

Crowd around them erupts in a loud scream, encouragement, screaming of both of their names. There are more people coming, running their way once they hear that there is a fight. It’s not often somebody is fist fighting for real, even with so much hormones between all of them.

They fall to the ground. Jimin isn't aiming at face, he isn’t that angry to hurt Yoongi like this. Yoongi quickly shakes off his initial shock, pushing Jimin off of him, sitting on top of him, catching Jimin’s wrist and pinning them on the ground.

“What happened to you?” Yoongi screams over the crowd, his eyebrows deeply furrowed.

Jimin isn’t listening, he uses his opportunity to leverage his body, shaking Yoongi off of him and getting an advantage once again. Jimin punches Yoongi in the stomach who immediately responds by tensing his muscles, making the second punch way less effective and more painful for Jimin.

Yoongi gets up before Jimin has a chance to lock him in place. Jimin is in a very bad position, on his knees while Yoongi is standing over him, eyes much darker than Jimin has ever seen before.

“You want to fight me?” Yoongi asks, panting.

“Fuck you!” Jimin screams, shooting up, tacking Yoongi back to the ground. “I hate you!” He keeps screaming. They roll around, pulling and punching each other all over their bodies.

Nobody seems to care enough to step between them and with every cheer in his favor, Jimin feels stronger.

“You fight like a toddler!” Yoongi murmurs way too close to Jimin’s ear before he pushes him away, getting up quickly.

The way Jimin immediately stutters at those words makes him even angier. He hates whenever he feels towards this man deep inside.

“Says who?” Jimin laughs humorously. “You’re so weak no omega ever will allow you to court them.”

That hurt, Jimin knew it would but he feels bitter and angry and he wants Yoongi to feel hurt. The hurt immediately is easy to see in Yoongi’s eyes before they harden, becoming sharper than Jimin has ever seen them be.

A second later there is a huge, crimson red dragon looming over him. Jimin screams, falling to the ground. Jimin looks up with his eyes blown open at the huge creature over him, a burning, hot breath that smells like fire hitting him right into his face. Yoongi’s scales are in a deep red color that falls into black in the shadows.

The only natural reaction jumps right after shock. Yoongi manages to barely fly off before Jimin screams, changing into a strong white dragon. They start to chase each other over the ground into the direction of a forest, leaving the crown of onlookers far behind.

The crowd is left behind, all Jimin can hear is the wind and Yoongi’s roars right above him. Soon they are clashing together, trying to buy one another, scratching each other scales with sharp claws.

The forest is kilometers away from The Academy on legs but with their size and strength of wings they are already flying over it. The speed in which they fly attached to one another makes the trees under them bend with the wind. Their loud roars put animals under them into full panic. There are birds flying away, the whole forest falls silent.

Jimin isn’t sure when they started to barrel down but once he realizes, it’s way too late. They are free falling and no matter how much he tries, he doesn’t have the strength to stop it. Suddenly, they hit the crowds of trees that break under their massive weights. They hit the ground all too soon.

At some point Jimin lost Yoongi from his claws but when Jimin opens his eyes he doesn’t see the powerful crimson red scales anywhere in his vision.

The impact of the fall was huge, Jimin can barely feel his left side. The forest around him doesn’t move as he lays there, slowly checking if his wings are okay. He already knows he will have the most painful bruise but even though the pulsating pain he can recognize that he had worse accidents. It leaves him feeling relieved, glad he will be able to make it back in one piece after such a fall.

He changes back to his human form, checking if his clothes are in the right place. As a human, the forest around him feels scary, the fallen tree trunks are massive, blocking his vision. The forest sounds dead, making his skin crawl with fear.

“Yoongi-ssi!” Jimin scream-whispers.

The bruise on his side is a little more painful without his dragon strength but he manages. Jimin climbs a fallen tree trunk, trying to keep his balance as he looks around the space. Just from here he can see Yoongi’s dragon form laying further into the forest.

“Hyung!” He calls for Yoongi, much louder. He gets no response which makes his heart pick up anxiously. “Fuck.” He hisses, jumping off the trunk and rushing to climb over another one, trying to get to Yoongi as soon as possible.

“This isn’t funny.” Jimin grumbles to himself as he climbs a pretty thick tree, trying to grab onto any left-over branches to lift himself.

He should have taken a break. His body is tired, he can barely hold his own weight up to lift himself and with every jump his legs shake violently. He overworked himself just to prove something he really didn’t need to prove.

“Stupid jackass,” Jimin keeps on talking to himself. “Why do I care about their dumb opinions.” Jimin is really getting mad again, this time purely at himself.

He really out did himself today, snapping at Yoongi for doing absolutely nothing, just because he is an alpha like some douchebag with fucked up views. To add to that he really picked a fight with Yoongi when they were supposed to be working on their relationship and work together. Everyone saw that, it’s impossible they didn’t, and if they somehow missed two giant dragons racing each other and pulling at each other, they sure heard from the others.

Jimin doesn’t even want to think about the consequences. They aren’t allowed to fight let alone fighting as dragons. They could have crashed into people or a building. They were supposed to be the smarter ones here, looking out for the rest of the students, meanwhile Jimin was agitating the shit out of Yoongi until he snapped back.

The fact that he managed to anger Yoongi, the calmest man ever, who never before used physical force with Jimin, even if Jimin tried. It never escalated like this, Yoongi was always balancing out their emotions until the situation calmed down. Jimin always was very passionate but the fact he just acted like an alpha, one who would ask why he has to take orders from omegas.

“Hyung, get up!” He screams, eyes glued at Yoongi, finally getting close to him. “I’m sorry for picking a fight.” He sighs, walking up to Yoongi’s dragon body. “He annoyed me and I just-” He puts his hand on Yoongi’s front, pushing on it. He looks up, searching for any reaction, ready to jump away if Yoongi will snap at him.

Of course, he isn’t able to move Yoongi’s body even a bit. He can feel his warm breath on him, so that’s good. “Open your eyes, Yoongi-ssi.” Jimin pleads, starting to panic.

Yoongi isn’t really fond of physical contact and the fact he just doesn’t react to Jimin putting his hands on the most vulnerable part of his dragon form really worries him.

There is no answer, Yoongi doesn’t even grumble. Jimin pushes harder, getting more and more scared.

“I get it, I get it,” Jimin mumbles frantically pushing onto Yoongi’s chest, trying to wake him up. “I’m stupid. I learned my lesson please stop joking like this.”

Jimin keeps his shaking hand over Yoongi’s chest, trying to focus and find his heartbeat. It’s hard, Jimin’s hands are shaking and the skin on the chest and belly, even if it isn't scaled, is still thick. Finally he is able to feel it, a steady, strong beat that makes him almost faint in relief.

“Hyung,” Jimin whines, feeling tears in his eyes. “Please stop this. I’ll laugh at your lame jokes but not this.”

Jimin rests his forehead on Yoongi’s chest, trying to calm himself. Just as he is thinking about transforming back and getting help, the huge body moves. Jimin jumps back with a scream, taken by surprise.

Yoongi twitches, looking down at Jimin with his huge eyes blown open. He looks a bit confused, his big head rolling to the side, away from Jimin.

“Are you okay?” Jimin asks, watching every small move Yoongi makes.

Yoongi makes a very deep sound that sounds like a whine more than anything. Jimin has to fight himself not to chuckle at that, finding it way too cute. Yoongi looks like a cat, eyes curiously wandering around, his huge claws close to his body, belly up.

“You scared me,” Jimin admits honesty, getting embarrassed as soon as Yoongi’s huge eyes are on him. He feels the need to explain himself. “We kinda split and I fell down further down there,” He points behind himself. “Then I found you and you weren’t moving.”

Yoongi huffs and Jimin’s mouth drops open, “Don’t laugh at me!”

Yoongi grumbles deeply, sending vibrations through the ground, leaning his head closer to Jimin and playfully chomping the air near him.

“Did you hit your head that hard?” Jimin asks, lifting his eyebrow.

He isn’t sure how to take the sudden playfulness of Yoongi. They don’t exactly have a pattern of joking together. Jimin had only ever saw Yoongi smiling from afar, never at him or with him. He isn’t sure if he should join Yoongi, he kind of just wants to shake off the stress from the situation.

Suddenly Yoongi makes a very high, distressed sound that brings Jimin back on Earth.

“What is it?” He asks, nervously watching Yoongi as he tenses.

Jimin looks up and down Yoongi and just now he realizes one of his legs doesn’t look how it should. Jimin gasps, slapping palm over his mouth. “Anything else hurts?” He worries. Yoongi looks at his wings and Jimin can immediately see one of them is in a very rough shape. Flying back together is not an option.

“Do you think you can change?” He asks, walking up close to the leg to get a better view. “I won’t be able to carry you back like this.” He states, biting on his bottom lip anxiously as he observes the leg.

They might be similar and size as dragons and Jimin prides himself in being strong but Yoongi is definitely too big and heavy for him to be able to fly him back. The only option would be for Yoongi to change into his human form and sit on Jimin’s back.

“Doesn’t look too bad, you should be able to change,” He comments. After he doesn't get a response he looks back at Yoongi, “Can you do that? We need a doctor to see this.” Yoongi makes a pained noise back, which worries Jimin.

This whole situation is something he never expected to experience, from fighting Yoongi to seeing him hurt, in pain. And it’s his fault that they are in this situation.

“If you change I’ll rush back as quickly as I can,” Jimin assures him, running his hand over his belly. “It will be very fast and you will get help soon.”

Jimin is aware that changing while hurt can be very painful, especially if you are not sure how bad the injury is. He got lucky this time, only getting a bruise that will heal pretty quickly. Yoongi has a serious issue with his leg and even if it doesn’t look like the worst injury, it still can put him in a lot of pain that is much easier to handle in his dragon form.

Jimin steps back, changing into his dragon form, nudging Yoongi’s chest with his head, asking him to change. He is ready to take off, to get Yoongi help. Yoongi looks conflicted, looking at Jimin with doubt in his eyes. Jimin nudges him again, wanting to help the best he can, as soon as he can. At least this way he can help Yoongi with the pain he caused him.

Yoongi changes and even if Jimin doesn't know him well, he can see that Yoongi is trying not to show just how badly his leg hurts. It doesn’t look badly broken but Jimin is not a doctor. He lowers himself, waiting for Yoongi to climb his back.

“I’m not doing that,” Yoongi says, his voice a bit shaky. “We will walk back.”

Jimin grumbles in a protest, trying to flatten himself out as much as he can, wiggling in invitation.

“No, Jimin.” Yoongi says sternly. “I don’t want to.”

Jimin changes back, “Why not?” He asks as soon as he can speak. “We would already be back.”

Yoongi sucks in a breath, shaking his head, “I just would rather walk.”

“Don’t be stubborn,” Jimin stomps his foot childishly. “Let me just carry you back.”

Yoongi reaches his hand out and Jimin immediately takes it without a second of doubt, helping Yoongi get up. “Let’s go.” Yoongi says.

Jimin is a bit too tired to fight back on it, sighing deeply before he pulls Yoongi’s arm around his shoulder, “We’re far.” He mumbles under his breath.

They were never this close. From here Jimin can smell Yoongi like never before and it makes him want to shy away. He smells nice, warm and safe.

Jimin can feel Yoongi’s eyes on him as they take the first few slow steps, taking the long way around the fallen trees, “I don’t mind.” Yoongi answers. “We can bond.”

Jimin splutters, almost stumbling over some veins, feeling his face dusting pink. “Suddenly you wanna be friends?”

Yoongi laughs, accidentally putting too much weight on his hurt leg, “Ow! Ow!”

Jimin side-eyes him, “Karma,”

“Then you should be the one with the fucked up leg.” Yoongi bites back but there isn’t any anger behind those words. It’s more playful than anything.

“I’m sorry,” Jimin rushes to say. “For everything. I was very immature and--”

Yoongi waves him off, “Apology accepted. No hard feelings.” He says lightly.

Jimin feels like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders. He doesn't know what to say back or how to talk to Yoongi in general. It feels awkward with them being so close, Yoongi leaning on him for support. Jimin is very confused, his heart hasn't stopped beating aggressively ever since they started walking.

“Just like that?” Jimin finally asks, cutting the weird silence between them that starts to feel almost suffocating.

Yoongi nods in agreement, giving Jimin that cute little smile with bunched up cheeks, his lips in a straight line. “We should have done that a long time ago.”

“What?” Jimin asks, very confused. “Fight?’

Yoongi rolls his eyes at him, “If you could call it a fight.” He chuckles. “We rolled around like cats in heat, screaming at each other.”

Jimin laughs at that, “Maybe you.”

The silence sets between them once again. Jimin frantically tries to find any subject they could talk about but there is nothing that comes to mind. Yoongi doesn’t look too bothered with the silence or too eager to talk to Jimin, focusing on not putting too much weight on his leg.

“I’m sorry for always teasing you.” Yoongi says suddenly, so quietly Jimin almost misses it.

“What?” He asks, unsure if he heard that right.

Yoongi sighs, “I didn’t mean for it to go that far.” He admits.

They finally make it onto a dirt road that looks similar. The air is getting a bit colder, dark clouds strat to loom over their heads. Jimin hopes the rain will pass because there is no way that they would make it before it. Their academy is still nowhere in sight and they are not exactly walking fast.

“What do you mean?” Jimin asks.

Their eyes snap ahead of them where they can hear hooves hitting the dirt road, a small dot on the horizont getting bigger. They both sigh in relief once the dot becomes a familiar figure of Namjoon leading a cart.

“I had a feeling something went wrong,” Namjoon screams at them, smiling at them. “So I came to the rescue.”

“Thank fuck,” Yoongi grunts. “I don’t think I could make it much further.”

“Hey! I offered to give you a ride!” Jimin protests.

Namjoon laughs, stopping the horses, “He would never do that, no matter what.” Yoongi swats at Namjoon who easily dodges. “Nice shade of red.” Namjoon ads as he helps Yoongi get into the back of the cart.

“Fuck you.” Yoongi spits.

Jimin is confused so he gets on the cart in silence, still wondering what Yoongi meant with his words a moment ago. Looks like he won’t find out. Still, he sits face to face with Yoongi with a light heart, even if he is still filled with guilt when he looks at Yoongi’s bruised, swollen leg.

***

The front yard is crowded once they make it back. Both Jimin and Yoongi try ignoring it. Yoongi tries to explain what happened to the very worried Hoseok who pushes through the crowd as soon as they stop. Jimin doesn’t really hear their conversation, their voices getting lost in the crowd.

Everyone wants to know what happened, asking million questions, screaming over each other and pushing to the front. He can hear quite a few alphas teasing Yoongi, laughing at how he let an omega beat him up but he decides to ignore it, something he should have done hours ago. They wouldn’t be in this situation then.

Jimin follows Yoongi and Hoseok all the way to the infirmary, followed by Namjoon. He doesn’t really know what to do with himself but he feels like he shouldn’t leave Yoongi now. Soon they enter the small room with a bed and shelves on shelves of medicine and herbs. A small desk sits tucked in a corner,

“It’s crowded here,” Hoseok says as he helps Yoongi sit on the examination table. “I’ll make my way out.” He announces, taking one look at Jimin. “You got a ride back to your room.”

Jimin looks at Yoongi, catching him already looking. Jimin smiles before Yoongi tears his eyes away, his neck getting a bit red. He grumps in agreement, scratching the back of his neck, “Thanks, Hobi.”

“No problem,” Hoseok says with the brightest smile Jimin has ever seen. “Rest well!”

Namjoon chuckles, closing the door behind Hoseok. He throws Jimin one last glance before he looks at Yoongi, “Let’s get you ready for the doctor.” He smiles almost devilishly at his friend.

“Do I roll up my pants?” Yoongi asks, sounding very unsure.

Namjoon shakes his head in denial, “Pull them down.

Jimin gasps, his eyes meeting Yoongi’s as soon as the words leave Namjoon’s mouth. They look at each other with their eyes wide open.

“I’ll wait outside,” Jimin rushes to say, feeling his cheeks heating up.

Namjoon waves him off, “No need for that, Yoongi hyung sure wouldn't mind you staying.” He smiles at Yoongi. “Right?”

“No, no,” Jimin rushes before Yoongi has even time to fully grasp what Namjoon just said to him. “Just call for me when it’s over.” Jimin says, already backing towards the door.

Yoongi nods along, visibly more than happy to not undress in front of Jimin. Jimin reaches out for the handle, in the corner of his eye seeing Yoongi reaching for his zipper which sends him into full blown panic. He almost ends up hitting the doctor with the door, rushing out like there is fire after him.

He waits in a small bench, fanning himself with his shirt by an open window, watching his red reflection in the glass. He can’t get rid of the blush that spread all over his neck and face.

“Stop acting like you never seen a man before,” Jimin hisses at his own reflection.

The infirmary door opens, “You can come in,” The doctor says.

Jimin almost jumps in surprise, not expecting it to be done that quickly. He rushes back in only to see Yoongi slowly putting his pants back on and he almost screams. He stands frozen in the doorway, eyes stuck on Yoongi’s ass. Somewhere in the distance he can hear Namjoon snort loudly, which gets Yoongi’s attention who turns his head around.

Yoongi’s eyes zero on Jimin, his mouth dropping open. The pants come fully on in a split second, “Why are you back already?!” Yoongi asks, panicked.

The doctor looks up from whatever paper he is filling in, “Is there a problem?”

“No,” Namjoon answers with a knowing smile. “Yoongi is just a bit shy.”

“Shy?” The doctor raises his eyebrow, looking between the two of them before he looks down to quickly write something down. “Don’t worry about it, it can be awkward in the beginning of a relationship at first.” Yoongi chokes on air, Jimin is in so much shock he feels like he will faint at any second now. “But with time you will get more comfortable. You two are very compatible if I remember correctly from your medical records so there shouldn’t be any problems later on.”

“We are- we are-” Jimin stutters, trying to find his words.

“They are not a couple,’ Namjoon says calmly, looking more than pleased with the situation.

“Oh!” The doctor says. “I’m sorry then!” He says with a sheepish smile. “I guess I’m not as good at reading people as I thought.” He chuckles, “Old age.”

They move on pretty quickly, getting straight to Yoongi’s injury.

Luckily, Yoongi’s injury turns out to be a pretty badly twisted ankle.

“Could be worse,” Yoongi says more to himself than anyone in the room.

He gets put on bed rest and few natural medications to help him get back to health quickly.

“Can I train?” Yoongi asks, throwing Jimin an anxious look.

The doctor shakes his head, “You can sit on a bench and watch.” The doctor looks at Jimin. “Sure you will have something to look at.”

Jimin’s jaw drops to the floor. He looks at Yoongi who surely also catches up on that comment because he looks just as stunned as Jimin feels. There is a silent communication between them. Jimin almost finds this situation funny.

“Old ages?” Yoongi mouths at him, lifting his eyebrows.

Namjoon actually starts laughing, sliding down the wall. The doctor pays him no mind, getting into explaining every medication he will send Yoongi off with before he abruptly stops, telling them they are all free to leave.

“Help him out,” The doctor says, nodding at Yoongi while looking at Jimin.

He immediately jumps into action. Yoongi is a bit reluctant to lean on Jimin. The first few steps are awkward, they push their way through the small doorway with Yoongi grabbing the small bag of his medicine on the way out. Namjoon stays behind, waving them off with his dimples on full display.

“Dipshit.” Yoongi curses under his nose. Namjoon obviously heard him, laughing as he closes the door.

After Jimin helps Yoongi back to his room at the Alpha dorm, Jimin almost runs to his room. He feels happy, giddy and very warm inside. He doesn’t remember when was the last time he felt this excited.

He is simply happy that he and Yoongi are finally getting along. He feels so much lighter than he felt when he had to be always ready to bite back.

Taehyung is already in his bed, throwing Jimin a knowing look but he doesn't say anything, keeping comments to himself. Jimin feels very thankful for that. He wants some time to cool down and organize his thoughts and feelings, even if he still won’t admit the obvious about them.

He will simply enjoy it and hope Yoongi won’t switch back to being mean. Jimin already got to enjoy the Yoongi everyone else knows. It feels nice, much nicer than to feel like you are the only one the man hates.

There are no hard feelings, right? That thought makes Jimin roll in his bed from side to side, feeling shy for some reason.

He feels excited to see Yoongi again, no matter how embarrassing that is to admit. Yoongi won’t be able to practice with the rest but he still wants to be there to monitor groups. Maybe he could bring Yoongi something healthy to eat while they are practicing. Just a few hours ago Jimin wouldn’t care and now he is worried about Yoongi the same way he worries about his long time friends.

The next day Jimin is feeling more like a mess than when he was getting started on his thoughts and feelings organizing. He spent half of the night laying awake, warmth pooling in every corner of his body, giddiness making his restless. He didn’t manage to organize much, trying to tiptoe around things he isn’t ready to admit.

Now, on his way to the first practice for the day, he starts to feel nervous. Yoongi will get there on his own with the help of a wooden crutch Hoseok brought to his room before Jimin left. Jimin won’t lie, he is a bit worried for Yoongi’s safety on the steep steps in the Alpha dorm. He doesn’t know where all that worry about Yoongi suddenly comes from, he usually isn’t like this but Yoongi’s injury really made him somehow overprotective. It’s uncomfortable in a way since usually this level of worry happens between mated couples but Jimin simply pins that on guilt and tries to shake off the thought of mating Yoongi.

Jimin doesn’t want to start the practice even when everyone is already waiting, well stretched and energetic. He keeps looking back into the direction from which Yoongi should be coming at any second.

“Jimin,” Heechul, one of the alphas from Jimin’s class whines. “Can we start? I woke up early for this.”

“Ah,” Jimin smiles sheepishly. “Of course! Let’s start with some easy practice with props.” He says in a teachery tone.

While the group falls into complete chaos, pushing to get a good wooden sword Jimin looks back. He immediately spots Yoongi slowly walking, still trying to figure out how to walk with the crutch. He doesn't even ponder on it before he jumps into action, rushing to help Yoongi.

Yoongi is slowly making his way towards him, holding a lunchbox in his free hand, smiling at Jimin. The smile melts Jimin inside, making him want to shy away. He fights his own smile, even if Yoongis only seems to grow as they get closer.

“Sorry I’m late,” Yoongi murmurs quietly as soon as Jimin is close enough. “I had to get creative with stairs.” Yoongi admits, chuckling.

“I should have helped.” Jimin says, regret clear in his voice.

He puts his arm under Yoongi’s, trying to help in any way but not knowing how to do it with the crutch in the way. Yoongi lets Jimin take the crutch from him, grabbing the crutch in his other hand and supporting Yoongi with the other. The group isn’t paying any attention to them, still picking wooden swords like their life depends on it.

“No need,” Yoongi says, comfortably walking with Jimin’s help just like they did it yesterday. “In a few days I won’t even need it.”

Jimin hums, shutting his lips tightly when he almost tells Yoongi that he is simply worried. Maybe they are okay now but that would definitely be too much. Yoongi takes place on a bench, keeping a close eye on the practice that starts promptly.

Jimin does his best every day since he started studying here but today he is trying even harder, feeling like Yoongi is following his every move. He hopes Yoongi isn’t judging him too harshly. Jimin doesn't feel like the practice is fully on him, Yoongi helps as much as he can, explaining things and showing things he can while sitting down.

Jimin never paid attention to how patient Yoongi is while explaining concepts. His voice goes a bit deeper, slower and he looks at the person, giving them full attention. He is very attentive, Jimin quickly realizes, seeing how well Yoongi sees if people understand and repeats things in easier words if somebody isn’t sure with no judgment.

It makes him feel shy, even if he is meters away, explaining a sword trick to someone. His eyes are glued to Yoongi, admiring how soft and sweet Yoongi is. He has to be brought back to the reality multiple times, his eyes snapping back to the person he should be paying attention to.

“Are you okay?” Wheein, an omega who struggles a lot with sword handling asks after she has to basically shake him to get his attention.

“Yes, yes,” Jimin rushes to assure her, feeling blushing coming on his cheeks. “Sorry, I just got lost in my thoughts.”

Wheein takes one look to where Jimin’s eyes were just a second ago before she looks back at him with a hum, “I get it.”

“You get what?” Jimin asks, his eyes growing wide open.

Wheein laughs, “He’s hot.” Jimin must look very confused. “We’re all looking,” She says easily, shrugging her shoulders. “That’s all we can do since he isn’t accepting any courting gifts.”

Jimin furrows his eyebrows at her, “Who?”

“Oh come on,” Yongsun, a pretty alpha says, joining their quiet conversation. “Every omega and beta tried, don’t pretend you didn’t.” She twists the wooden sword in her hand mindlessly. “Many try even multiple times.” She says, throwing Wheein a knowing look.

The omega rolls her eyes, “Worth the shot.”

Jimin looks between them completely dumbfounded. He never knew Yoongi is some kind of a most wanted alpha. He was always too busy denying he finds him anything but annoying and disgusting.

“You mean Yoongi?” Jimin asks, his tone doubtful. “Why?” He asks, his brows furrowed, arms on his chest.

He has a lot of experience in saying stuff like this, they come out easily out of his mouth and he feels like he needs to tell them to deny he was even looking. Doesn’t matter if he really was looking, he doesn’t want to seem like he is suddenly all over Yoongi, sighing dreamily from afar.

“He is handsome, understanding, smart, funny, smells amazing,” Yongsun starts counting out and Wheein nods along. Jimin looks around to see a few other omegas listening, their eyes full of understanding.

He feels taken aback and a bit like he got caught doing something wrong.

“I’m not into him,” Jimin shakes his head, “You guys are crazy if you think I suddenly like him.” He rolls his eyes.

“Suddenly?” Says a beta Jimin isn’t very familiar with, holding back a laugh.

Jimin mouth drops open. He can feel just how quickly he becomes red so he does the only thing that comes to his mind, he walks away. Yoongi throws him a questioning gaze when he gets back to the front.

“Let’s wrap this up,” Jimin announces.

Yoongi agrees after taking one look at a clock.

Jimin has a moment of peace when the group starts to leave. He sits down away from Yoongi, too awkward to sit next to him now that he got new information he never even thought about. He tries to not mind the few omegas who linger next to Yoongi for a moment, asking him questions Jimin doesn’t hear. Somewhere deep inside he rolls his eyes at them, mocking them.

Where is this bitterness coming from? Omegas can surround Yoongi all they want. None of Jimin’s business.

Jimin tries his best to ignore it, enjoying his new found friendship with Yoongi who turns out to be actually very good at conversations. Jimin doesn’t even have to try hard or get his attention, Yoongi slides next to him as soon as the omegas are gone and a new group starts to come together.

Jimin is surprised when Yoongi slides the lunchbox between them, giving Jimin a warm but unsure smile.

“This is for you.” He murmurs, looking almost nervous.

Jimin’s curiosity spikes. He carefully opens the box to find two blueberry buns inside, “Oh!” He looks up, giving Yoongi a warm smile. “You don’t have to share them with me, I know you also like them.” He chuckles, trying to deflect from his growing embarrassment.

Why is he so nervous? His hands are a bit sweaty and he doesn’t know how to act.

“I don’t,” Yoongi says simply. “But you like them and I wanted to bring you something.”

Jimin chokes on his saliva. He doesn’t want to jump into crazy ideas but this isn’t something alpha-omega friends do, not often at least.

“I put you in this situation,” Jimin shakes his head, laughing awkwardly. “And you bring me food?” He jokes in disbelief. “I should be the one bringing you food.”

Yoongi shrugs, giving him a playful smirk, “Let’s eat.”

Even if Yoongi just said he doesn’t like those buns, he takes one, nudging the box closer to Jimin. He carefully takes the bun, trying to not look messy while eating. They eat in silence but it somehow doesn’t feel suffocating. He feels content, a bit shy and awkward with crumbs in the corners of his mouth, but happy.

He offers Yoongi to help him with the stairs every morning and any time he might need it, which Yoongi accepts without putting on a fight. Jimin immediately tries to justify it by wanting to pay Yoongi back for the damage he has caused, and Yoongi reminds him that he doesn't blame Jimin.

Helping Yoongi makes him happy. Yoongi is cute whenever he tries to act like he doesn’t need help, not wanting Jimin to waste his whole days on helping Yoongi to get down stairs. They talk a lot, chatting about just about anything and everything, walking as close as it's humanly possible without tripping over each other. They walk to the dinner together every day and Yoongi doesn’t fail to slowly make his way towards Jimin’s table to bring him a blueberry bun, even if Jimin already has one.

Jimin feels happy, happier than he has ever been. He does his best not to over think and act unbothered. Nobody really asks him questions although he catches a few curious gazes whenever people see him with Yoongi, having a calm conversation.

Not even a week in Jimin can see that Yoongi is doing much better. They both are aware that Yoongi is probably completely fine by now but nobody dares to say it. Jimin doesn't really want to stop helping Yoongi, for many reasons that he is more or less likely to admit. But finally their weird dance around each other gets broken when during practice Yoongi forgets to pretend his ankle is hurting (they both know it’s not, let them be), and jumps off the bench, running to help Namjoon who tripped and almost fell on a pocket knife.

“Joon-ah!” Yoongi screams, getting the attention of everyone around them. “Are you okay?” Yoongi asks, crouching to have a better look at his friend.

“Yeah,” Namjoon chuckles breathlessly, he then lifts his eyebrow, looking Yoongi up and down. “And so are you, hm?”

Yoongi’s jaw almost drops to the floor. He looks down on his legs, both perfectly healthy, holding his weight without any issues. “I’m being careful.” He explains, speaking louder so everyone can hear him. “Don’t want to injure myself more.”

Namjoon looks past Jimin who looks as guilty as Yoongi. They don’t talk about it further and Jimin helps Yoongi get back on the bench, both looking embarrassed.

“Think I can manage on my own,” Yoongi says shyly after the practice is over and they are all alone. “Thank you for helping me.”

“Are you sure?” Jimin asks anxiously. “I don’t mind helping you if your leg is bothering you.”

Yoongi sucks in a breath between his teeth, “Don’t worry, really.”

And although Jimin doesn’t want to admit, he is sulking for the rest of the day. He has no reason to walk up to Yoongi’s table now and has no idea how to start a conversation. His friends are teasing him a bit, already hearing from Namjoon all about it.

From the next day Yoongi is back to practicing but this time around, it feels different. He doesn’t jump away from Jimin and isn’t reluctant to touch him. Jimin doesn't want to overthink it, yet he can’t help but feel like Yoongi's touch is a bit lingering. It makes his stomach go crazy with butterflies, makes him breathless and excited. Yoongi’s eyes are always on his, warm but there is that glint of a challenge in them that Jimin isn’t sure if he reads correctly.

He is so scared of reading too deep into it, getting the wrong idea and getting stupidly hopeful. He already knows that Yoongi isn’t really looking for a partner, it’s easy to take away from all the information he got a few days back. Yoongi is rejecting everyone who tries to open a courtship with him.

To try and hold himself back from hopelessly falling for the alpha, Jimin thinks back to the comment Yoongi made about his scent. It hurts more today than it did when he was still holding so much piled up anger towards the alpha. Was it really a rejection or was Yoongi simply biting back for those comments about him being like every alpha? At the end, he never took it back when Jimin apologized to him.

The longer Jimin thinks about it the sadder he gets. By the dinner time he feels fully rejected by a man he never even tried to court. Yoongi easily senses that something is wrong, with how sad Jimin got himself while playing fake rejection scenarios in his head, it must be easy to sniff out. Jimin plays it off with being tired and rushes inside to eat before he will lock himself in his and Taehyung’s room to cry into a pillow.

His friends ask him questions, of course they do, they are always observant and worried. He doesn’t even have strength to lie, just shrugging off their questions. He plays around with his food, not really feeling hunger but knowing he is hungry with how much he exercised today.

“Oh, here we go.” Seokjin says, elbowing Taehyung who gasps with excitement.

Jimin looks up from his plate, “What?”

“Shake that front off your pretty face,” Seokjin answers, reaching out to fix Jimin’s hair.

Seokjin moves away, smiling past Jimin. Before Jimin can ask what is happening somebody taps his shoulder. He turns around to see Yoongi standing right behind him, looking handsome and shy.

“Hi,” He says in a quiet, deep voice, looking down at his shoes before he looks back up, eyes full of determination.

Jimin can’t help but smile, feeling butterflies in his stomach exploding, “Hi.” He simply says back.

Yoongi clearly his throat, straightening his back, making his shoulders look even wider than they already do, “This is for you.” He says, pulling his hand from behind his back.

Jimin looks down at a soft looking material tied with a white ribbon. His eyes grow bigger, mouth opening and closing.

“What is this?” He asks, looking back up at Yoongi.

He doesn’t want to read too deep into it, even if giving gifts in public usually means one thing.

“It’s a gift for you.” Yoongi states, looking out for Jimin’s reaction.

“What for?” Jimin asks. Behind him he can hear his friends groan but he doesn't bother to spare them a glance.

Yoongi’s eyes bulge out, “It’s- It’s to thank you for taking care of me.”

“Oh,” Jimin says quietly, feeling like somebody just stabbed him right in the heart. “Thank you” He quickly ads, giving Yoongi his best smile. “You really didn’t have to.”

“I wanted to.” Yoongi smiles at him weakly.

As soon as Jimin takes the gift Yoongi is almost running back to his table. Jimin turns around, not wanting to look like he is staring. He finds Taehyung, Jungkook and Seokjin looking at him, shock easy to read on their faces.

“What?” Jimin asks, carefully putting the soft gift on his lap. “Is it that weird that people are grateful?”

“That’s not it.” Jungkook says, sounding tired.

Jimin shrugs at them, trying his best to be happy. It’s a gift from Yoongi, not the kind he would like but still, he is happy and grateful. He should get Yoongi something back, something to show he appreciates him.

Not in a courting way. This is a thank you gift and Jimin will simply give him a friendship gift. He never has done that but he can just give his friends gifts.

The more he thinks about it the more he feels like he is explaining himself to himself.

The gift turns out to be a very soft, knitted black sweater feels like it was made for him. Putting it on Jimin gets a strong whiff of Yoongi’s scent that almost makes his knees give up.

Taehyung looks like he really wants to say something while Jimin tries his best to act casually while looking at himself in the mirror. Jimin throws Taehyung a questioning glance, lifting his eyebrow but Taehyung just purses his lips together, eyes going back on the book he pretends to be reading.

Jimin can’t stop smiling, barely able to see his own reflection in the mirror. Jimin never before accepted a courting gift, never was interested in anyone enough to feel like it was appropriate but he imagines this is how it feels to get one from somebody you like. He tries to push sadness away, focusing on enjoying the thoughtful gift.

“I can’t,” Taehyung finally snaps. “This is a mess.”

Jimin turns around, “What?”

“You,” Taehyung throws the book on the side, getting up. “This pining is making me mad.” Jimin makes a questioning sound.

“You and Jungkook?”

Taehyung hides his face in his hands, “I’ll fucking scream. No!” He whines. “You and Yoongi.”

Jimin scrunches his face, “No.” He denies, his left hand running up and down the soft fabric of the sweater, squeezing his right forearm anxiously. “There is nothing between us.”

“Oh, come on! You can’t take a step without him following after, you smell like him all the time, he always brings you a blueberry bun.” Taehyung takes a deep breath. “This,” He points at the sweater. “Is a courting gift.”

“Tae,” Jimin says, his tone warning. “It’s not. I asked him, you were there.”

Taehyung stars pacing around, “He said that only because you asked as if it wasn’t obvious. You could see panic in his eyes.”

“He would never court me.” Jimin responds, trying really hard to stop Taehyung’s words from getting his hopes up.

“Go ask him yourself,” Taehyung says, opening the door to their room.

“That’s ridiculous.”  Jimin says, feeling shy just thinking about knocking on Yoongi’s door at this hour.

“No,” Taehyung pulls him towards the door. “This barely started but I’m already sad of you putting yourself down and trying so hard to act like your literal dream isn't coming true.”

“What dream?!” Jimin asks, his voice going higher.

“He is courting you.”

Jimin puffs out his cheeks, starting to feel annoyed. “Okay.” He says, feeling his face becoming hotter. “I’ll prove it to you and you will leave me alone.”

“Deal,” Taehyng says, reaching his palm for Jimin to shake.

Jimin almost runs out of the room, ready to prove Taehyung wrong and get his heart broken.

The determination doesn't sizzle out by the time he reaches Yoongi’s door. He knocks on the door and waits, arms tied together on his chest.

Yoongi opens the door without a shirt on, immediately making Jimin choke on air. He knew that Yoongi has tattoos, Jimin has a few as well. But he never had the opportunity to see them up close. Jimin can see parts of a large dragon peaking on his sides and shoulders, his front tattooed with traditional korean tattoos that look perfect on Yoongi’s skin. He looks at Yoongi’s tattoos completely frozen, wanting to reach out and trace every single piece he can reach. Yoongi looks as shocked, his eyes going from the sweater to Jimin’s face.

“Jiminie?” Jimin’s heart almost jumps out of his chest when he hears Yoongi call him by that nickname.

“I just have a question.” Jimin says quickly, ready to get his answer and run back to his room.

Yoongi nods dumbly, eyes still going from Jimin’s face to the sweater, making Jimin feel shy.

“Are you courting me?” Jimin fires out the question, bluntly and quickly. Ready for the answer he knows he will get.

Yoongi’s answer is almost too quick, “Yes.” Their eyes meet. Jimin feels like he might faint.

“But you-” Jimin stutters out, trying to find words. “Are joking now.” He laughs humorously.

“No,” Yoongi shakes his head. “Since you are here I might as well just say the truth.”

Jimin looks at the sweater, pointing at it and then looking up at Yoongi, “Courting gift.” Yoongi answers his silent question.

Jimin’s heart is hammering. The sweater is way too thick, making him sweat profusely. His throat is dry, his stomach is going crazy and his brain is completely blank.

They look at each other in silence. Yoongi starts to pace from one leg to another, scratching the back of his head, “Public courting might not be for me.” He starts explaining himself. “Didn’t go as planned.”

“You’re serious with me?” Jimin asks, feeling hopeful but scared at the same time.

Yoongi nods, “Courting isn’t a joke.” He says seriously. “If you don’t accept it, I’ll understand but you can keep the sweater. It looks good on you.”

For a split second Jimin’s brain wants to refuse the gift but Jimin bites his tongue. This is not the time for playing cool and letting his shy side win.

“Of fucking course I accept it.” Jimin spats out. “Just- Why didn’t you tell me?” He frowns at Yoongi.

“I’m sorry.” Yoongi pleads. “We can talk about it,” He continues, taking a step to the side. An invitation.

Jimin’s eyes travel back to Yoongi’s shirtless torso, “If we are being honest.” He starts, feeling tempted to just step inside. “Hyung, it might not be a good idea if you are like…” He looks around, making sure there is nobody around. “If you are traditional.” He almost whispers, avoiding looking at Yoongi’s face.

“Do I seem like I am?” Yoongi asks just as quietly.

Jimin shrugs shyly, looking everywhere but at Yoongi, “I don’t know.”

Yoongi chuckles, “Cute.” He murmurs, making Jimin feel shy but also ready to jump Yoongi. “Jimin-ah,” Yoongi says, getting Jimin’s attention. “Do you want me to be bold or do you want you to leave now?”

Jimin bites his lip, taking one look at Yoongi before he makes up his mind. Yoongi looks at him with a smirk, his lips sharp, body leaning over the threshold. “Bold?”

Yoongi reaches for him, taking his much smaller hand into him, lightly pulling him closer. Jimin usually isn’t the type to shy away. He likes to feel sexy, he likes a bit of control but right now, here, he wants to curl into himself. It’s a good feeling, a mix of shyness and excitement. He can barely look up at Yoongi but looking at his chest isn’t much help. The closer Jimin gets, the more red scales appear on Yoongi’s skin, pooling between his ink.

It makes Jimin hot in a new way. He can feel his own scales under his clothes, popping up way faster than Yoongi’s. It’s intimate and the fact that Yoongi doesn’t mind him seeing, knowing how much Yoongi wants it, makes it so much more exciting.

Yoongi lifts Jimin’s chin with a finger, looking him straight in the eyes, “Do you want to come inside and make out?”

Jimin gasps, not expecting this kind of boldness. Still, he nods, smiling right back at Yoongi before he pulls him inside, closing the door behind him. They are both smiling like idiots, hearts hammering.

“You look pretty in this sweater,” Yoongi whispers, pulling Jimin close, their noses touching.

“Thanks,” Is all Jimin can say, eyes fixated on Yoongi’s soft, handsome features.

He can’t look away from Yoongi’s sharp eyes. Yoongi seems so happy, his eyes big and sparkling. It’s a beautiful view and Jimin is excited to see it more.

The first kiss is soft, barely a kiss but it takes Jimin’s breath away. His heart stops for a moment, the butterflies in his stomach exploding. He never felt that before. Yoongi takes in a sharp breath, making Jimin believe he must feel the same. The second kiss is even better, a soft slide of lips soon becoming more heated.

“We should have done that before,” Jimin mumbles into Yoongi’s mouth, arms coming around his neck, pulling him closer. Yoongi responds with the same excitement, pulling on Jimin’s waist to bring him chest to chest.

“Instead of fighting?” Yoongi asks, biting on Jimin’s bottom lip.

Jimin can only hum, chasing Yoongi for another kiss. He feels like he just let go of the biggest secret on the planet, and maybe he did. Yoongi laughs into the kiss, slowing it down before it’s just a chaste touch of lips.

“I would've but you would have stabbed me,” He points out, pulling away to look at Jimin.

Jimin whines, suddenly getting shy, ducking to hide in the crook of Yoongi’s shoulder, “Maybe.”

Yoongi pulls him into a warm hug, way too warm for the thick sweater he is wearing. There is hotness pulsing through his whole body. He focuses on the way it feels to be in Yoongi’s embrace, his lips still tingling from the kiss, Yoongi’s taste on his tongue. Yoongi kisses the top of his head.

“You smell amazing,” Yoongi mumbles into the crown of Jimin’s head, making his stomach swoop.

“I do?” Jimin asks, his worries still fresh.

Yoongi hums, taking a deep breath in, “Made me go almost crazy for years.”

Jimin whines, trying to hide deeper into Yoongi. This is too much, all at once. He doesn’t know if he can handle this.

“I’m sorry,” He says, leaving a sweet kiss on Yoongi’s neck.

Yoongi hums in response, swaying them from side to side, “Might forgive you for a date.”

On the way back to his room Jimin feels almost loopy from the happiness and Yoongi’s scent on him. He feels like he is flying all the way to the room, sighing dreamily every few steps.

Inside the room Taehyung takes just one glance at him, “Told you.”

Jimin just hums, sliding down the door, pulling his knees close to himself before he lets out an embarrassing scream he was holding down for far too long. He never imagined that he would find himself someone like Yoongi.

Now it’s easy to admit why he was so keen on hating Yoongi. Ever since Jimin joined his group he wanted to be the best and he wanted Yoongi to see him. Yoongi was just his type but never bothered to look at Jimin the way he wanted to be looked at by the older alpha. They were sharing first spot in the ranking but he still felt like he wasn’t enough. Finally he let his competitive nature take over.

In the span of the next few days Jimin finds out that Yoongi never disliked him, that he was trying to flirt, not realizing Jimin isn’t flirting back but attacking him. It took Yoongi a long time to catch up. He couldn’t understand why Jimin didn't like him and it was making him angry.

Jimin finds it funny how easily things fall into place with Yoongi. He has never imagined he would feel comfortable with a partner so fast, he always imagined there would be a longer period of time where he would be unsure how to behave. With Yoongi it’s easy to find comfort and doubts. It’s also easy to be honest, to have open conversations and talk about feelings. Jimin brings up the comment about his scent pretty early on, wanting to get rid of his spiking anxiety whenever Yoongi wants to match their scents. It’s healing to hear the apology for past words, even if they both didn’t mean them.

Listening to Yoongi’s side of their pining makes him giddy. He listens to Yoongi, staring at him while they lay on Yoongi’s bed.

(“Why do you have a single room?” Jimin asks with a pout.

“I have strong ruts.”

“Let’s change subject!”)

Yoongi is nothing but loving, a bit awkward and shy at times, not sure how to do things right. Jimin loves the way Yoongi can be smug and flirty but change into a shy marshmallow just a minute later. But so is Jimin. It takes them a bit of time to get fully comfortable with each other. They work well as a team although their friends think they are much harder to handle than before.

Jimin thinks they are perfect like this. He and his Alpha Min.
