Work Text:
"There sure are a lot of stars out tonight." Tokoyami murmured and he sat himself in the grass beside you.
It was maybe two or three in the morning, you'd been sitting outside for a while.
Stargazing was always something you had done to calm down, even in you couldn't find many constellations or planets.
It hadn't been long since you had moved into the dorms, a few weeks maybe. And it always took you a while to adjust to change.
"Oh, hey. Wasn't expecting you there." You had jumped slightly at Tokoyami's initial words. Having been alone with only the stars and your thoughts for a while.
"So... watcha doing out here? I know why I'm here but like..." you rambled.
"I couldn't sleep." The bird man admitted as he glanced at you, your face softly illuminated by the moonlight. (if he could blush, he would have)
"I'd actually gone to your dorm first to see if you were awake to be honest. When I saw you weren't there I figured I'd enjoy the dark. What about you?"
You sighed, not fully expecting the question.
"Comfort habit. I'm not really that used to the dorms yet, so I come out here where I can't sleep or when I need to think." You explained as you lied back on the grass.
"Understandable." he nodded at your reply.
The two of you stayed like that for a while, just enjoying each other's company under the stars.
"Tokoyami, do you ever... make wishes?" you asked gently, almost afraid to break the silence.
His eyebrows furrowed. "I'll need you to elaborate."
"Like... do you ever just wish? Like do you lay awake and think to yourself "I hope I always have a good relationship with this person" or stuff like that?"
His face showed a sense of realization as the meaning of your words washed over him.
"I suppose I do, yes."
More silence passed.
Eventually you had ended up leaning your head on his chest, only for his arm to wrap around you as you gazed on into the night sky.
"What do you wish for?" He whispered
Looking at his face you gently replied.
"This."
