Chapter 1 Illustration:
Xue Yang grinned and dropped his chin on his hand. “Doesn’t threatening me get old?”
Chapter 4 Illustration:
Time was a concept that had been lost to Xue Yang in the last ten years. Days slid together, weeks slid together, sometimes he didn’t realize he’d been staring at the wall for hours until Xiao Xingchen called.
Time was a sticky, gooey thing that didn’t compute in the right way anymore. The light daytime and the dark night helped, but then he struggled to recall how many nights had it been.
Xiao Xingchen repainted his nails every ten days as a sort of calendar. Silver, then purple, then green, and then red.
Chapter 6 Illustration:
Wei Wuxian dragged him into a convenience store down the street. Xue Yang complained the entire time about how much of a dumbass Jiang Cheng was. Wei Wuxian ignored him. He went to the main counter and ordered Xue Yang a bright red mixed berry ice drink with a mound of sugar in it.
Part of Xue Yang wanted to dump it on Wei Wuxian’s head, but his desire to drink it won out. He was quiet the entire bus ride to the hospital.
