Chapter Text
Everybody in class had been talking about a new fortune teller that had set up shop near PK Academy. Their thoughts were buzzing around his brain, crashing against his skull and irritating him. Kaidou was leaning on the front of his desk, yammering on about how he didn't believe in fortune tellers. Droning on and on about Dark Reunion, Saiki tried his best to tune him out, his sensitive eardrums begging him to just teleport home and get the day over with. An itchy feeling spread around his neck at the thought, causing him to lean his head down inconspicuously. Saiki didn't care much for psychics- or fake psychics. You would think he would be insulted at the appropriation of his... condition... but in reality he couldn't care less. He tapped his foot and the tile and tried not to think about anything, letting fog cloud his mind until the final bell startled him out of his stupor.
Stumbling out of his school shoes and hurrying home, lest someone ask him to accompany him out, Saiki drowned out the words all around him with the slight humming of his warming vocal chords. His shoulders began to relax when all of a sudden a shrill shriek of a girl caused Saiki to wince. Looking across the street, Saiki spotted the offender, a girl gushing about a fortune teller telling her she was destined to be with Japanese actor and model Kento Yamazaki.
Shifting his eyes over, he spotted a familiar mop of light blue hair. Narrowing his eyes, Saiki quickly realized that Kaidou was looking to see his fortune. Dread spreading in his stomach, Saiki had a feeling something disasterous was going to happen to his friend- no, Kaidou if he didn't babysit. Making sure nobody was looking at the pink haired boy, Saiki disappeared, following the boy into the darkly lit room.
Saiki sighed as all he witnessed were Kaidou's overdramatic responses to the lady's questions. "
What am I doing here," he thought, turning around as Kaidou spilled his issues to a woman not at all equipped to genuinely help him.
Kaidou spilt to the woman about his troubles making friends and Saiki felt like this nonsense was going too far. Eventually, he decided that Kaidou's issues weren't his problem and began to step outside once more.
The woman held out a necklace, claiming it to fix Kaidou's problems. "If you wear this necklace, you will gain 100 friends, including Kento Yamazaki!" Kaidou watched in amazement.
"I can give you this necklace for 30,000 yen! (~300 USD)" Kaidou fell back in his chair, shocked at the amount. "I-It's 30,000 yen?!" He sputtered, considering the offer.
"Well, at least tell me one thing. Will this necklace make Saiki my friend?"
Interrupted once again, Saiki froze instantly at the mention of his name. Pain shot through his chest. He knew the teen thought about him during the day occasionally but... did he really think that highly of him? Why? He was just an average kid. A kid who ignored him, mind you. Why... would he still want to be friends with him? Saiki tried everything, ignoring the younger teen to spitting scathing remarks about how his deluded world was no better than a psychic fraud. Why would he pay 30,000 to make friends with a bitter classmate when he could make friends with any other person?
What did Kaidou see in him?
As the woman greedily replied with soothing words and grabby hands, Saiki's eyes saw red. Something dark and twisted came over him as the woman snatched Kaidou's money like a common knife thief. Kaidou quickly sputtered a thanks as he tripped over his chair in his haste to attach the necklace around his neck. Once his footprints and eager thoughts faded in his ears, Saiki slammed the door shut so the vile woman and Saiki were alone. Revealing himself, Saiki spoke in a mantra as objects spun around him, mentioning Jet Black Wings and Dark Reunion in order to sell the act. The frail woman looked pale as she grabbed the money and ran as fast as she could in fear of her safety.
Following her invisibly, he sighed in relief as Kaidou got his money returned to him, excusing his actions as not wanting Kaidou to think they were friends just because of a stupid necklace. Not looking where he was going, Saiki bumped into Nendou, ruining the invisibility effect and catching the attention of Nendou and Kaidou.
"Oi Aibou! Pipsqueak! Let's go get ramen," the oaf proclaimed.
Saiki huffed air out of his nose.
He supposed he'll go just this once.
