Work Text:
Lana had arrived at the coffee shop with flushed cheeks and searching eyes, a gentle crease in her eyebrows, adding to her hectic and concerned expression. Mia had been waiting for her in a cozy - looking corner of the shop, where the overall chatter had died and the rain fell crystalline on the windows. Her face relaxed slightly when she saw Mia, with a mystery novella open on her lap, and she closed her black umbrella and sauntered towards her. Mia looked up, smiled, and unceremoniously slipped a bookmark in her book and let it fall into her bag.
“ I’m sorry I’m late”, Lana lamented, a soft grimace coming across her face.
Mia took her hand from under the table, and looked up, and Lana, perfectly naturally, slid into the chair opposite the other lawyer, their eyes never moving from one anothers.
“ It’s fine, I’m glad you’re here, what with all the rain and traffic.”
As if to punctuate Mia’s sentences, a particularly loud honk came from the street outside, momentarily catching the attention of everyone in the shop, before they all settled back to what they were doing. Lana straightened the green corduroy skirt she sported, and pulled the matching cardigan closed over her chest. Her stomach flipped and rose and dropped , and she questioned why she felt so nervous; A date, even a first date, was almost like any other meeting - logical, and could be broken down into a time, a location, a topic, and a person. She tried to repeat this in her head as Mia turned back towards her, ponytail whipping in the process. Mia’s outfit was simple, a pair of jeans and saddle shoes with a top full of white, black, and red pinstripes, as well as a baseball cap. It reflected her perfectly. “ So”, Mia said, moving her chair so that she sat directly next to her date instead of across from her. “ What were you thinking of ordering? I think I’m going to get a cappuccino, but I know you don’t like a lot of coffee. Maybe the chai tea latte or something else with tea?”
Lana smiled softly, dimples peeking out of her cheeks.
“ I think I’ll get the Green Tea. But what about food, Mia? You didn't mention anything about eating breakfast over text.” Mia fondly scooted over, snuggling against her.
“ Always so concerned for me. It’s sweet. What do you think we should get?”
Lana yanked her gaze away from the other girl, and glanced back down at the menu card. She hadn’t looked thoroughly before, and her eyes landed on a small list of sandwiches.
“ Maybe the Chicken Salad sandwich..? It looks nice on paper, at least.”
Mia turned her chin with her thumb and forefinger, and she had to grip the menu tightly so as to not drop it in surprise. Mia’s lips curved up mischievously at that action, and she quickly pressed her lip’s to Lana, the menu joining the things that had fallen to the ground without fanfare. She pulled away as quickly as she had done, and she laid her head on Lana’s shoulder.
“ That sounds great.”
