Beau stirred partially awake at the sensation of cool air drifting in as her covers were lifted, and her heart gave a small leap even before she felt the bed depress a moment later. Yasha slipped quietly behind Beau to curl against her back, resting an arm gently over her waist.
Beau squirmed closer and turned to blink sleepily at her girlfriend in the overcast stormlight washing over the room. "Hey, you're back."
It came out as more of a mumble, but Yasha seemed to understand. She kissed the corner of Beau's mouth and smiled as she slid a cool hand up to rest on her stomach. "And you are wearing my very favorite shirt."
She was just slightly damp, smelling of outside and earth and all the adventures she'd doubtless been on in the last two days. It was basically Beau’s favorite smell in the world, but even this close to dreaming, she couldn’t resist rising to the bait. She wrapped her arms protectively around herself with a yawn that was only partially for effect. "S'my favorite too."
"Mmmm," said Yasha, voice low and teasing. "Well it certainly looks cuter on you, but there's just one problem."
"Yeah?"
"Yep." Yasha kissed her jaw. "You see, somebody very special gave that shirt to me."
The accent left behind from spending days as all wolf and no Yasha was faint but pronounced – another in a long line of little things Beau loved. She was too sleepy to think of anything witty, so she let the warmth spreading through her come out in another smile and made a questioning sort of sound.
"I've been looking forward to wearing it all the way home because I've missed her so much," Yasha murmured. "But I’m afraid somebody stole it while I was away."
Beau giggled at the feel of Yasha's lips on the back of her neck and curled up more tightly. "Haven't seen it."
"Oh?" Yasha pushed at Beau's hair with her nose, amusement in her voice. "That's such a shame. I don't suppose you have one I could borrow?"
"Nope. S'one's mine, sorry." Beau turned her grin into the pillow and snuffled a laugh as Yasha tugged her back towards her.
"Surely you know something." She held Beau in place against her and dropped kisses all over her shoulder and neck as she squirmed helplessly. "There must be some way you could help."
Beau wriggled until she could twist around in Yasha's arms to look up at her, breathing slowing. "Conflict of interest." She closed her eyes and cuddled close, drowsy in the morning rain hissing softly outside as her legs and Yasha’s tangled together automatically. "Vested interest in you without clothes."
Yasha sighed dramatically as her fingers started to trace a soothing, familiar pattern up and down Beau's back. "Okay, but fair's fair. I'm going to have to steal something from you."
Beau grunted a sleepy protest. "I'm small. You have to be nice to me."
The rain picked up gently outside as Yasha chuckled. "But you're always small."
"Mhmm."
Yasha's hand left her back to brush a little hair out of her face, and Beau opened her eyes to that certain expression of overwhelming adoration that always caught her off guard and made her feel bashful somehow. "Don't worry," Yasha said softly. "I'm always nice." She pulled away just enough to bend her head and kiss Beau on the lips, an earnest and lingering thing that made Beau consider waking up more fully to properly chase but which was sweeter to simply enjoy.
Yasha leaned back and smiled at her as her arm draped over Beau's hip again. "There. A stolen kiss so we're even."
Beau buried her face in Yasha's chest and uncurled an arm to clutch at her girlfriend's smooth, warm back and snuggle closer. "Missed you," she said. "Love you."
Yasha's chin found its place on the crown of her head as she pulled the blankets up to their shoulders. "I love you too. See you in a little while."
Beau made a noise of affirmation and fell asleep a moment later, lulled by Yasha's warmth and the sound of the rain and her moment of pure, blissful peace.
