Chapter Text

There Midoriya was, sitting in a bright red faux leather booth by himself in the most popular pro hero only night club. He sighed, playing with the little strawberry themed umbrella atop his almost empty fruity drink that sat on the black table. He didn't particularly care for heavy drinks so the "girl" drinks are always what he chose. They tasted better and were easier to choke down most of the time. Anyway Midoriya even dressed up for his outing. He did like to look nice even if he wasn't very good at matching things or fashion in general. Midoriya had on a dark red button down to compliment his green hair and light gray slacks that hug his thighs. However, he much preferred to be home instead. This just wasn't his scene and he wasn't really in the mood to stomach it either. His friends wanted him to come though so of course he agreed since he didn't want to let them down.

"Oi Nerd." A voice called as footsteps approached the table he was at

"What're you doin' here?" A familiar gruff voice finally jolted him out of his thoughts

Midoriya turned his head, lifting it up in the same motion to see none other than his childhood friend; turned bully, turned friendly rival, turned... well he's not sure now, Bakugou Katsuki. He's dressed similar to Midoriya, in a nice black button down with matching slacks, making his red eyes and ash blonde hair pop because of the contrast. It's honestly giving modern nepobaby vampire. He looked well, handsome as ever. Pro hero Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight was Japan's most sought after and eligible bachelor or that's what the tabloids say anyway. Midoriya can understand why to the fullest extent. He wasn't blind and hell a blind person could even tell Bakugou was as hot as his quirk. It was an embarrassing thought though.

Midoriya blushed, glancing away.

"Oh, hi Kacchan. Um Shouto said I should... come and enjoy the party." He answered with a shrugged and an empty laugh

Most pro heroes were in some sort of romantic relationship, but for whatever reason Bakugou was never in one, publicly anyways. He and Midoriya also didn't talk about relationship stuff often or at all. It was just something that didn't come up in conversation. He's not surprised Bakugou is at a place like this. He would definitely enjoy it but what is shocking is that the blonde can stand to be there. Bakugou doesn't have a long lasting social battery like some of their fellow pro hero friends do. It's quite amazing he's sticking it out. He deserves some fun.

"Don't look like you're enjoyin' it." Bakugou slipped his hands in his pockets as he casually looked around the very large room then back to Midoriya with a frown

The blonde knew him so well. He could always see right through Midoriya as if he had Hagakure's quirk. At least he could since the end of their first year of highschool after their fight.

"Well, I wasn't even coming out tonight and parties aren't really my thing." Midoriya looked down at his drink, his curls bouncing slightly with his movement

Bakugou stepped towards the opposite seat.

"Yeah, I know." He commented as he slid into the booth

"So what's up with you?" The blonde eyed Midoriya from across the booth

The smaller flinched at the question, his head shooting up to look at the other man.

"Huh?" He questioned

Bakugou rolled his eyes, leaning back.

"Ya look like a sad bunny, Deku. What's wrong?" He frowned, concerned for the other

"I- It's nothing, really." Midoriya shook his head, not wanting to spill his guts to Bakugou in the middle of a club

He wouldn't care about something like that anyway, the man is Bakugou Katsuki after all. It hasn't been long since they graduated, maybe a year or so. Which is why Midoriya always thought the papers calling Bakugou "the most eligible bachelor" was a little weird, but whatever that's Bakugou business. And like he always says, Midoriya should stay out of it. They saw each other often, but worked with different partners, on different shifts, on different days at the Endeavor agency. The only time they did see each other at work was if they were paired together on a mission. They've even done some undercover ones together. To make up for the separation, they texted each other if they couldn't make time to hangout outside of work. Midoriya was thankful but often felt like he might just be bothering the blonde.

"Ya know I hate it when ya lie ta me." Bakugou leaned forward resting his arms flat on the table as he narrows his red eyes at green ones

Midoriya looked away. Those red eyes can bore into a person's soul and drag out anything they want if they stare hard enough.

"Kacchan seriously, it's nothing you even care about." He said with a small pout

The shorter wanted Bakugou to drop it, but the blonde isn't a quitter. "Hag, ain't raised no bitch" Midoriya remembers him saying on multiple occasions.

"Does it involve you?" Bakugou questioned, pointing an index finger at him as his elbow stayed on the table

Midoriya's face morphed into a confused look for a moment.

"W- yeah..." He answered looking sheepishly back at the other

"Then I care." Bakugou said sternly

Midoriya thought for a minute. He could just leave, but Bakugou would either chase after him or get angry and Midoriya doesn't want to deal with either possible outcome right now. They're friends and sure, Bakugou might not be the best candidate to comprehend complicated feelings other than anger, but he'll understand in his own way.

"I'm... just feeling sad, I guess." Midoriya sighed looking down at his lap

"And why's that Nerd?" Bakugou cocked an eyebrow then lifting his hand up to signal for a waiter to come over

"... Uraraka and I broke up." Midoriya told him, eyes looking to the side as he fiddled nervously with his fingers that lay near his empty drink

Bakugou froze for a moment then continued as if he wasn't shocked.

"Damn, yer already back on last name bases. What happened, ya bad in bed or somethin'?" He joked with a grin to lighten the mood

Midoriya however, didn't think it was too funny. He only gave the other a small unamused frown, but didn't voice his displeasure.

Bakugou's lips grimaced. The other always laughed at his jokes even if they weren't very funny.

"Beer me." He told the waitress when she arrived at the table

She nodded with a "Right away Mr. Dynamight." then promptly left to go tell the order to the bartender.

"It was mutual. When you're working hard to become number one hero it's a little hard to have a romantic life... apparently and we grew apart." Midoriya explained, but seemed unsure towards the end of it

"We started having small arguments then we had a big one and I made her cry." He added as his own teared up at the thought of her upset face

Midoriya shook his head to get rid of the image.

"I felt awful and apologized profusely..." He said wiping his eyes

"A- Anyway we didn't want it to get worse so we decided it was best to break it off." He added

Then his eyes went wide as he looked at the blonde that he just remembered he was talking to. Bakugou didn't seem to mind it from the concerned look on his face. Honestly he kind of missed the babbling from time to time.

"Ack, why am I telling you all this?!" Midoriya blushed, realizing he just spilled everything to Bakugou

Bakugou let out a short exhaled laugh.

"Cause I'm easy." He smirked, winking at the waitress who brought him his order

She flushed as she walked away then the blonde turned his attention back to the freckled mess in front of him. While it was true, he was easy to talk to, it was embarrassing to just blab on and on Midoriya thought. However he liked that no matter what, no matter how good or bad their relationship was, they have always been able to spill their guts to each other eventually.

"I hope you meant easy to talk to and not in a s- sexual way." Midoriya whispered

For a man that had previously been in a three year relationship, he acted like a total virgin sometimes the blonde thought.

Bakugou shrugged.

"Eh, both." He answered, taking a sip of his beer

He's had his fair share of sexual encounters and filing NDAs to keep extra's mouths shut. Can't be having them going around and spitting information he doesn't want out in the public. It's no one's business but his.

"K- Kacchan." Midoriya covered his mouth in shock like he was scandalized

Bakugou scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"Shuddup, you prude. Let's get back to tha damn conversation." He scolded

Midoriya sighed, tired of this whole situation.

"Shouldn't you know about this already? It was all over the news and in the tabloids." He questioned the other

"Ya know I don't read that shit, but Ei told me." Bakugou answered taking another sip of his beer

"Then why did you ask me if you already know, Kacchan?" Midoriya frowned feeling a little bristled by that fact

"'Cause ya look fuckin' depressed. Figured ya needed ta talk ta somebody. S'how long ago was this again?" Bakugou changed the subject

He honestly couldn't remember when Eijirou told him. Bakugou never paid attention to the red haired idiot, that he definitely doesn't consider a friend, anyway.

Midoriya tried to relax as his barely alcoholic drink started to make him feel a little buzz.

"Two months." He answered

Bakugou scrunched up his face.

"And yer still cryin' over this shit?" He asked like three years of love meant nothing

Something within Midoriya tensed up in defense and the words burst out of him before he could stop himself.

"I loved her!" He glared Bakugou

People glanced towards them but neither of the two wavered their gaze upon each other. However, Midoriya realized what he said well, more like a certain word he used. Loved... he said loved. Past tense.

Bakugou looked unamused and not fazed by the other's outburst.

"Then why'ja break up with her?" He asked

Why did he say love in the past tense? He loves Uraraka. Right? No... no he loved her he doesn't love her in the present and doesn't love him in the present either. That's why they broke it off.

Midoriya opened his mouth, closed it, then opened it again like he was a fish trying to breath air.

"B- because sometimes... when you love something you should set it free." He told him voice becoming shaky and unsure

"What about fightin' for whatcha love?" Bakugou cocked an eyebrow

"Kacchan... what are you getting at?" Midoriya narrowed his eyes at Bakugou, feeling offended

He's no longer with Uraraka, sure, but he still cared about her and their relationship wasn't all bad. He won't let someone bad talk it or imply something about them that wasn't true.Bakugou paused for a moment. He thought carefully about what he was going to say before saying it, which he didn't do often or at all but for Midoriya he always tried to.

Bakugou then shrugged.

"Maybe you didn't love her as much as ya thought ya did, if you just let her go without a fight that is." He stated

Midoriya gasped standing up out of his seat.

"Kacchan, how dare you!" He frowned, slapping his hand on the table

But... maybe Bakugou was right. If he still loved Uraraka why does he call her by her last name and why did he say loved instead of love?

Bakugou at least looked a little apologetic.

"Not try'na piss you off, Nerd. M'just sayin' it's a little odd ya broke up with her so easily. Arguments and cryin' don't mean shit. If you really wanted it, yer feral ass would've fought for it." He looked directed into the other's eyes

"You always get what you want." He said

Bakugou was right. Midoriya didn't fight at all. He just... let her go like a leaf in the wind.

The smaller swallowed hard.

"Sh- Shuddup, Kacchan." He said sharply as he sat back down

Of course he was right. Bakugou was always right. He just knew Midoriya all too well.

His eyes snapped to Midoriya's, scanning for something. Then a cocky grin spread across Bakugou's face.

"Facin' the music, huh? Truth's a bitch." He shrugged

Midoriya's bottom lip wobbled.

"I- I'm done... talking ab- about this." He looked down at his lap, tears pricking his eyes yet again

Bakugou sighed with a small nod of understanding.

"Then lemme buy ya a drink." He proposed

Midoriya wiped his eyes, trying to keep from getting upset again.

"Why?" He sniffed

"Can't I be nice?" The blonde rolled his eyes

Bakugou, this nice? Not in a million years.

Midoriya looked up at him with frown.

"Have you met yourself, Kacchan?" The shorter questioned

Bakugou was already frowning, but he looked sincere.

"Oi, I'm being serious." He told him

Midoriya shook his head with a tight lipped smile.

"Thanks, but I don't want any more alcohol."

"Fine, how about some water or maybe milk for the crybaby." Bakugou teased

He always teased Midoriya. It wasn't bullying and it never escalated to anything of the sort even if Bakugou got angry at the other. Usually if that did happen it was because Midoriya was being reckless as he often is. Even to this day. Bakugou would lecture him, maybe calling him an idiot or a few other names, but it was all for the sake of protecting him. Not to bully. Midoriya knew Bakugou cared about him. He felt the same way. The smaller always has and always will care for Bakugou Katsuki.

"Kacchan stop. I don't feel like dealing with your teasing." Midoriya told him with a pout

"Then leave." Bakugou said, bluntly serious as ever

Midoriya open his mouth, but his words lagged.

"W-"

"You heard me. If you don't want to be here, then leave." Bakugou reiterated, sipping his beer

Midoriya gawked at the other's seemingly sudden mood change. First he was offering to buy him a drink, now he's telling him to leave?

"I- I can't, Shouto asked me to come." Midoriya said quietly

"Yeah and... where exactly is that bastard right now?"  Bakugou looked around the club challenging Midoriya to find him

"Over th- there..." Midoriya pointed towards Todoroki and Yaoyorozu whom were dancing together with Sero

Bakugou grunted in disgust at their PDA which was just Sero doing the salsa with them one at a time.

He turned his attention back to the sad green idiot in front of him.

"I ditched my idiots ta come buy you a drink... cause ya looked like you needed savin'." Bakugou smirked, using a phrase Midoriya said to him long ago

That day was when he realized Midoriya would do anything to save someone. Even if the odds were completely against him, he would still put his life on the line if that's what it took. He was too kind hearted.

"Useless Deku." Midoriya muttered loud enough for Bakugou to hear as he looked down at his lap again

"No. Sad Deku." The blonde corrected

"Pathetic?" Midoriya questioned, looking up at Bakugou from between his curly hair that fell forward with his head

"Upset." Bakugou answered

Midoriya gave in. He did that a lot when it came to the taller.

"... alright, I'll take a beer." He nodded

"You sure you don't want water?" Bakugou grinned

"No, I want beer." Midoriya answered

Bakugou nodded and hailed a waitress over again since. His drink was stout, but he wasn't even tipsy. The blonde's was a lot of things, but a lightweight he was not.

"Oi another beer!" He demanded as she made it halfway to their booth

She spun on her heel to get his order.

"Kacchan that's rude." Midoriya told Bakugou in a scolding manner

"You're order Sir." The new waitress said seductively as she leaned forward a bit it put the beer in front of Bakugou

"That was quick." Midoriya muttered

Bakugou looked her up and down slowly.

"It's for him." He smirked

The angry hero could have anyone he wanted with those looks of his and damn was he good at making people drool and beg at his feet for just a little taste. A drop. But this poor waitress wasn't his prey tonight. The woman moved the beer over to Midoriya, her eyes never leaving Bakugou. The smaller felt uncomfortable with the eye sex invading the booth. He cleared his throat and Bakugou's red eyes immediately flickered to him without a second thought of the busty waitress.

"Um thank you." Midoriya said kindly, eyes still a little glossy

The woman nodded and winked at Bakugou then she walked away swinging her hips probably to make her ass look more enticing in the hopes Bakugou would be intrigued, but he paid her no attention. He was focused on someone else right now.

"Crack it open, Nerd." Bakugou told Midoriya

The shorter did so with ease. He didn't even have to use One For All to enhance his natural built up strength.

"Kacchan, why are you being kinda n- nice to me." He asked

Not that Bakugou's super mean, but this was definitely unusual behavior for him. Well unusual behavior towards Midoriya anyways. It's like Bakugou was being extra nice tonight.

Bakugou's eyes looked down at the table for a moment then back up to Midoriya's face.

"I don't like it when ya look sad." He admitted

"I'm allowed to be sad." Midoriya said

"Yeah... but nothin' should make someone as bright as you, sad. Ever." Bakugou glanced to the side

Midoriya was always bright and that's the way he should stay. If he wasn't happy then by the all knowing power above was Bakugou gonna sit around and let him stay that way.

Midoriya blushed a little under the low light.

"Wow, that was surprisingly sweet Kacchan. When did you become a sap?" He giggled lightly taking a sip of his beer

Bakugou scrunched up his nose at being called a sap.

"Shuddup, I'll kill you. Just bein' honest."

Midoriya smiled softly.

"Well, thanks for being nice. For once." He teased

There it is that smile again. Bakugou never failed to make Midoriya smile. A long time ago he vowed to make sure the smaller smile especially at him. They've been through a lot, even a war. So if anyone deserved to be happy all the time it should be Midoriya Izuku.

"Anytime Dweeb." Bakugou gave a curt nod
