“Ok, spill it” Hermione said as she directed her face into the sun and took a deep breath of the warm, sweet air that only the first day of spring could carry.
“What do you mean?” Fleur asked and started playfully swinging their joined hands.
“You’ve been gazing longingly at every family we passed today” the Gryffindor said after counting the butterflies ahead of them. Seven in total.
“I’m just looking around, it’s a beautiful day” the blond said feigning ignorance.
It was a gorgeous day indeed. First warm day in a long time. Fleur felt the sun seeping through her skin and warming her bones, it made her feel light and hopeful. Spring does that to people.
“Mhm” Hermione was not fooled as she was well-versed in all things Fleur. “You can tell me, you know” the Gryffindor tried again as she finally looked from the sun to her girl wondering how was it possible that Fleur shone brighter than the brightest star.
“I am telling the truth, cherie” Fleur looked at Hermione with smile on her face. “It is a beautiful day and I’m enjoying our walk” she added a kiss on the cheek for a good measure.
“It’s ok, let’s talk about it, love” Hermione squeezed Fleur’s hand hoping the Veela would open up.
Fleur let out a content sigh “I’m just picturing our children. All these families make me wonder how they would look like.”
Hermione was silent, but Fleur knew she heard her.
“We never really talked about it” Fleur said looking at Hermione “Having children?”
The brunette laughed, Fleur loved how Hermione’s eyes would crinkle when she laughed.
“I thought I would never have children. I never wanted them” Hermione looked at butterflies. She counted ten now. “But I also thought I would never get married. I think it’s because of my childhood, my parents made marriage look like a constant battle.”
After a short pause she continued “So, instead I bonded with a Veela which is much deeper and entirely unbreakable” Hermione looked at Fleur with a fond smile. Fleur smiled too as she recalled their mating ceremony.
“I would never force you into doing something you didn’t want” Fleur said gently.
“I always knew you would want to have a family with me” Hermione started again feeling proud at the thought. “At first it made me feel scared, but now… ” the brunette looked at her Veela.
“Really?” Fleur couldn’t contain her grin.
“Yes, Fleur”.
“Oh Hermione” Fleur put her hands on Hermione’s neck. “I love you so much”.
Hermione’s hands immediately went around Fleur’s waist to hug her, she took another deep breath.
Air in the spring was incredible, but Fleur’s smell was something else.
“I love you too Fleur. So much.”
“Are you certain this is really what you want?” Fleur asked just to be sure.
Hermione took a minute to put everything she wanted to say into words, although she knew it would never be exactly what she wanted to express. Talking about her feelings always made her feel uneasy, like she lacked certain… something that enabled everybody else to deal with emotions, but the brunette knew it was enough for Fleur to understand. Because Fleur was lovely like that and Fleur was magical in an entirely unmagical way.
“I never knew I wanted a family until I met you because with you it’s easy, our home is my save haven, not a battlefield.” Hermione shrugged. “And I know you will be a wonderful mother.” The Gryffindor
already imagined how Fleur would interact with their baby, how she would hold their child, countless times now.
“I want us to have a baby” Hermione grinned as she realized how much she actually meant it.
“So should we go home and start trying now?” Fleur asked with mischief in her eyes.
“You’re impossible” Hermione rolled her eyes and kissed her girl.
