Chapter 1: Less-Than-Good Decisions

Chapter Text

In hindsight, trying to rob a noble carriage probably wasn’t the brightest idea, but Crumb didn’t care too much. She held tight to her horse, Maridaisy, as she carried Crumb swiftly and quietly across the path.

Her two accomplices, Tubbo and Ranboo, rode close behind. Tubbo was sitting backwards on his horse, aiming a crossbow at the guards trailing them. Ranboo stayed stable, making a beeline to a small gap in the undergrowth. His short horns jutted slightly out of his head, making a dent in his dark brown hood. He motioned to Crumb to where he was looking. Crumb nodded, knowing what he was planning.

Crumb braced herself as Ranboo slapped his arms out to his sides. It took a second, but Crumb opened her eyes to find herself deep in the undergrowth. Realistically it wasn’t that far from the path, as Ranboo wasn’t quite strong enough to teleport them all AND their horses very far. The horses whinnied, recognizing the sensation and slowing down enough for the three to slide off and onto the ground.

Ranboo huffed and jumped down, quickly finding a spot to sit beside a tree. “You okay, Rainbow?” Crumb asked. The nickname had originally come from Crumb just not knowing how exactly to pronounce Ranboo’s name, and had just stuck since. Ranboo nodded as he shuffled through his bag to find his canteen of water. He looked ready to chug the whole thing, but lifted it gently to his lips so as to not lose a single drop and get burned.

Tubbo rested his crossbow on the leafy ground and swapped it for a shiny smooth wooden lockbox he had hidden away in his cloak. He took out a chipped rock hammer and hit the lock until it came off. Crumb and Ranboo huddled around as he opened it, ready to take in their steal. A single gold nugget and a few coins. They all groaned in unison.

“You’re kidding,” Tubbo fell onto his back onto the ground with another groan. Ranboo hummed.

“The box is salvageable,” he shrugged “We could sell it.”

Crumb nodded “He’s right!” she chirped, though knowing it definitely wasn’t worth any more than the contents inside. Ranboo reached over and dropped the coins and gold into a satchel that hung over his shoulder and under his arm.

Tubbo sat up and looked around feebly, “We campin’ here tonight?”

“We could probably move a bit farther from the main path,” suggested Ranboo, standing up. His long, thin legs were still trembling slightly from energy he used to teleport them. The other two followed, the horses trailing beside.

The three found a dry spot further down from the path and made camp. Ranboo and Tubbo slept propped up against their horses while Crumb curled up in a low tree branch. Her silky orange tail curled up and around her nose as she fell into a steady doze.
