Work Text:
“Mew, do you want to go out for dinner?” Gulf asked from his place on the couch. There was no answer. He looked up from his cellphone where he had been looking for restaurants nearby. Mew was sitting on the floor working on his computer. There were books scattered all around the wooden table. He had soft music playing as he alternated between reading from his books and writing on his computer. Gulf smiled. He loved watching his boyfriend study. Mew always asked him why? And he always said it’s because he looked his best.
There was always passion in his eyes. He loved his academic worked and always gave it his all.
Instead of asking again he reached to pat Mew’s head tenderly. He let his fingers run through Mew’s damp hair. As always, it’s soft. Mew stopped writing and closed his eyes. He enjoyed the feeling of Gulf’s Fingers. “Enjoying it Tua Eng?”
Gulf stopped. “Yes Phi”
Mew turned to look at him. “What is it tua eng?”
“I asked if you wanted to go out for dinner. There are some restaurants near that just opened, so I thought we could try one of them. “Gulf said as he continued to brush Mew’s hair. “We could we try Sivar. Mild went with Aa the other day and said it’s great.”
Mew smiled at Gulf and then looked back at his computer. He wanted to go, but he still had to write a chapter of his thesis before tomorrow night. “How about we go tomorrow? I must finish this, or my advisor will kill me.” Sometimes Mew questioned why he decided to do a PHD, he was already busy with acting and music. It only took time from his loved ones. He specially felt sorry towards Gulf. When they got together, he promised to give him his best, but recently he had been cancelling dates because of work or study.
Gulf could see Mew’s thought spinning towards self-deprecation. It was always like this. Mew tended to think he was not giving him enough time or attention. But Gulf understood. His boyfriend was chasing his dreams, so how could that ever disappoint him. Yes, sometimes it was hard not seeing him, but coming home to his arms was enough. This tough moment, as all things do, will pass.
“Thirak look at me” Gulf said with the softest voice. Mew turned and looked at Gulf with sad eyes. Gulf keened down and kissed Mew’s forehead. He pressed their foreheads together. “It’s okay” and kissed his forehead again. “I’m sorry Tua Eng.” Mew said, “I know you want to go, but I just can’t tonight.”
Gulf pulled away first. “Thirak, there’s nothing to be sorry about. We won’t go today, but the restaurant will still be there tomorrow and the day after.” He held Mew’s face in both hands. “I know it’s hard sometimes, and we might not get to do a lot of things right know, but Thirak we have all of our lives to try new things out.” He laughed and raised his left hand. “See this ring here. When you gave it to me, I made a promise to you. I’ll follow you wherever life leads you.”
Mew started to cry. He needed this. Sometimes his head took him to some dark places, but Gulf could always bring him back. He thanked the heavens for giving him someone so pure and understanding. Mew kissed him. He couldn’t hold back, not when the man he loved was staring at him with nothing but love in his eyes. They hugged for what fell like hours until Mew laughed.
“Did you just tell me you’d follow me anywhere? What about the beach?”
Gulf pouted “Yes Thirak, even the beach”
“What about the opera?”
“Yes Thirak, if it’s with you I’ll even go to the Opera.”
Mew wondered what he had done to deserve this man. He was so happy. Though life had been hard for him and there were moments when he almost gave up, he met Gulf. “Do you really mean it? Wherever I want?”
“I really mean it. I’d follow you to the end of the world if that’s where you wanted to go.”
This is it, he thought. This is what true love feels like.
Instead of answering, Mew kissed him again.
