I'm Done Adulting For Today

Summary:

William 'Billy' Batson has had a long day, but he had plans with his boyfriend, Damian Wayne, that he refuses to put off, and hopefully, said plans, will make things better.

Notes:

This ship of mine, (one of many rare-pairings I ended up with by accident,) started back when I first watched Shazam.
I was writing a Robin-based series at the time and my mind jumbled the two together.
Damian is older than Billy in this, as I based this around how old Ben Affleck's Batman looked, so in my imaginary canon, Damian is older.
(I have a planned series that is based on the AU I built, but I don't know when I'll ever get to posting it.)

That said, if you have any requests/suggestions for works, ships, or Fandoms feel free to stop by my Tumblr! (I don't know if it's possible to send messages on AO3 without it being feedback, if there is let me know.) -You can find my Tumblr on my profile-
If you have the time leave some feedback, it motivates me to write more when I see people enjoying my content or giving advice! :)

Work Text:

Willaim 'Billy' Batson had just spent the better half of his day rushing from place to place.
First, you had the fact he had to rush to school due to oversleeping, being a senior in Highschool was somehow *more* difficult than being a sophomore, which he didn't think was actually possible, but evidently, it was.
Then he had to use the age-old bathroom excuse when a hostage situation started downtown and was humiliated by the teacher when he returned at the end of class. (He would have to deal with teasing leers he was sure, but it was not really anything new.)
Then it seemed as if every criminal alive in Fawcett wanted to cause a ruckus.
He had stopped an armed robbery, assisted two different police chases, fought several wannabe villains, stopped a possible natural, -not actually natural,- crisis, and then had to rush to his part-time job.
Honestly, he was ready to faint in his bed and never wake up again, ever.
But there was still one thing he had actually *planned* to do today that would help with his exhaustion.

With that thought in mind, he made his way to a rather expensive-looking apartment building, (they were more like luxury condos,) he had a feeling if he went there as Shazam that more trouble would arise, so he simply walked.
It helped that he couldn't be seen by the resident he was visiting in his powered form.
One day maybe he would confess about being a superhero, one day maybe, but that day wasn't today, and wouldn't come for a long time.
Yes, it was a peace built around a lie, but he would rather have that than put the person he was visiting in danger.
The person he was visiting?
His boyfriend of a year, yes, boyfriend.
He didn't wonder about his sexuality, didn't think of it too much, wasn't something he really cared about, he loved who he loved, that was it.

He waved slightly at the sullen receptionist before rushing to the elevator, honestly the workers terrified him, yes, him.
They always seemed to be upset and depressed with long looks on their faces to match.
But when you consider the most likely privileged rich folks they had to deal with on a day-to-day basis, you couldn't really blame them.

The elevator stopped at the second to top floor opening to a hall, the first few floors had smaller condos, but the top ones each had private floors, if he didn't know who lived on the floor, he would be irritated by the obvious money flaunting.
He knocked on the door a few times and heard a small crash before it was ripped open.
Knowing the kind of physique his boyfriend had, he wouldn't have been actually surprised if he *did* rip it off its hinges.
"It is *extremely* late, you know that, right?" The emerald-eyed man asked before Billy invited himself to hug the slightly shorter man.
"Oh please, like you aren't a night owl," it was true, his boyfriend was almost always awake, only showing exhaustion on rare occasions like this one.
He thought it was because he was busy with meetings and his own private tutor sessions/school, what he didn't know, was it was that, and much more.

His lover had scars splashed across his skin, some looked like stab wounds, others gunshot wounds, and the more obvious huge scar in the middle of his chest was terrifying.
Billy never once asked how the man got those scars, he had a feeling he didn't *want* to know.
Gotham City was a dangerous place after all, and that was where the emerald-eyed man was from, though he visited Fawcett every other month to be around Billy.
The two having had a chance meeting when he had come to the city to run a very large errand for his father.

Billy felt arms wrap around him and he couldn't help the laugh.
"What?" The tanned man asked irritated.
"Nothing, today was exhausting, sorry I couldn't get here sooner when we had planned to spend time together."
The two pulled away and the shorter man moved aside to let him in before shutting the door behind them.
"That's fine, something came up anyhow, I had planned on calling you, but I suppose it slipped my mind," he responded running a rough hand through his usually tidy bedhead.
Billy stepped forward running his paler hands through the dark locks, brushing it back with his fingers.
"Your hair is greasy dude," he stated with a shit-eating smirk knowing how pro hygiene his lover was.
He received a grimace in response.
"You aren't any better jackass," he responded swatting Billy's hands away almost playfully, though it was difficult to tell with him.

The shorter man sighed, walking past Billy and almost literally collapsing on the large sofa.
Billy chuckled slightly, it was rare he saw this side of the stoic man.
The guy had several sides, the one the public usually saw was admittedly more carefree and flirtatious than the guy actually was, an act if you will.
Not at all who the man actually was.
In actuality, the man was a lot more curt than he seemed.
He had a short temper, a very sarcastic sense of humor that usually ended in inadvertently belittling someone, and yet, he had a soft side as well, adoring animals and having an unrivaled respect for his father.
Even though as far as Billy could tell, his father was a brainless womanizer, all his lover did when he admitted that was laugh, and say 'fair enough.'

Billy sat down beside the man, patting his knee comfortingly.
"Looks like today kicked both of us down huh?" He questioned with a knowing smirk.
The man smacked his arm before pulling him down to lay on the couch also.
"Why does it seem like the weekends are never long enough?" Billy complained as he wrapped his arms around the Gothamite.
"Because time hates you."
Billy resisted the urge to kick his lover in the knee, instead pushing his sneakers off and making himself comfortable.

"Wake me up in a few hours."
"Have it your way why don't you?"
Despite the disapproving tone, he leaned forward, kissing Billy's temple before falling into a relaxed posture.

While Earth's greatest champion slept, the Gothamite donned a mask of his own, a note left raving about a made-up meeting.
The two would continue this cycle of secrets for a long while to come.
Billy always finding the mysterious heir whenever he was done 'adulting for the day.'
And the Gothamite always there to comfort him in his own silent way.
