Chapter Text
Robyn had known the soldier ever since the academy. She admired her determination and skill in everything that she did. Even though the white-haired girl was two years behind her, she had the maturity of a full-fledged huntress.
They became friends during Winter's freshman year, and something bloomed in the two after time. Robyn knew their time would be limited since she was graduating at the end of the year but she couldn't stand not being with Winter. They spent every afternoon together after class, practically inseparable.
The former heiress informed Robyn about her desire to join the military post-graduation but the blonde tried to convince her otherwise. Robyn knew the military would change Winter into someone she would not recognize. Winter, being as stubborn as ever, argued against Robyn trying to convince the taller woman that the military was respected and that she could do real good being a part of it. This ultimately ended their relationship and the two didn’t speak afterward.
It had been years since the academy, and Winter Schnee was now a special operative in the Atlas Military, something Robyn always hated. The military seemed to only serve Atlas and not the blonde’s hometown of Mantle, which was just under the floating city.
Robyn had grown used to protecting Mantle without the help of the military. She and her team fought bravely to serve the people of Mantle and fight the creatures of darkness.
The blonde had known for years that Winter was Ironwood's right-hand man but she was still taken aback when she saw the white-haired woman in her full military garb. It was the first time she'd seen Winter since graduation. Something in the back of her mind wanted to deny the fact that the former heiress really joined the military after she graduated.
Winter had just arrived back in Atlas after a mission in Haven. She stood with perfect posture, her sword at her side, ready for anything. Of course, their paths had to cross on the rare occasion the blonde was in Atlas. Robyn didn’t normally make the trip up to the city in the clouds but she needed to file some important council paperwork for her campaign.
The white-haired woman turned her head and locked eyes with Robyn. The blonde expected her to turn back and ignore her, but the woman approached the huntress instead.
“Ms. Hill, it’s good to see you.”
Robyn, still dumbfounded that the former heiress even acknowledged her presence, stumbled her words.
“H-hey Winter.”
“It's Special Operative Schnee now,” the soldier replied.
Robyn’s eyes narrowed.
“R-right, how could I forget.”
“I heard you are running for the council seat,” the former heiress continued.
“I am. Mantle needs a representative that fights for their best interest,” Robyn replied.
“I agree,” Winter responded. “I’ve noticed Mantle is in dire need of repairs and supplies but the General doesn’t seem to notice.”
“Maybe you should tell him that,” the blonde noted.
“I should have worded that differently. He doesn’t seem to care.”
“Sounds about right,” the blonde scoffed, rolling her eyes.
“I’m rooting for you. I hope you win,” the soldier replied, reaching out her hand to shake.
“T-thanks,” Robyn stammered, reaching out her hand to shake Winters’.
Lilac eyes stared into ice blue ones for only a second, but that second brought back so many happy memories. Robyn recalled their nights together in the older girl’s room, she recalled the deep conversations they shared, and she recalled the softness of the white-haired girl's lips against her own.
Their handshake broke.
“I have to go now. Good luck, Ms.Hill.” The soldier turned and walked away as Robyn longed for more time with her.
The blonde sighed and continued into the building to file her papers.

Robyn lay in her bed days later thinking about the former heiress. She stared at the ceiling in the dark, only a street light shining through her half-drawn blinds.
“It has been years, why can’t you let it go?” she thought to herself.
She sat up with her elbows on her knees and her hands covering her face. The blonde stared at the ground trying to think of anything but the former heiress, to no avail. Winter clouded her mind.
She definitely wasn’t over the shorter woman, realizing she had pushed all these feelings down instead of dealing with them all those years ago. Now that they had resurfaced like fireworks, Robyn was unsure what to do.
The blonde turned and flopped face down on her bed. She screamed into her pillow for a few seconds as a way to deal with these old feelings.
It didn’t help.
A moment passed and she heard a knock on her door.
“Robyn, are you ok?” a woman’s voice asked from the other side of the wall.
The blonde recognized the voice as her teammate Fiona Thyme. Robyn looked up at her door.
“The walls are really thin, as I’m pretty sure you know, so if you need to talk I’m here to help,” the Faunus continued.
Robyn rolled out of bed and walked to her door. She opened it to reveal a short woman with white hair and sheep ears. The Faunus looked at her with worry in her big green eyes. Fiona noted how tired Robyn looked, her eyes slightly red from strain.
“Sorry Fi, I’m just a little frustrated is all. I’m ok, I promise,” she replied with a soft smile.
“O-ok, goodnight then.” The Faunus waved and walked down the hall to her own room.
Robyn closed the door and proceeded to fall asleep.
