You Were My Mother Too!

Summary:

Todoroki Toya ran away with his siblings after years of abuse and he starts to raise them. It was tough but he thinks he did a good job with them. He works hard to maintain a roof over them and it pays off well. Everything was going fine.

Until they were found by the two people he ran away from.

Based on the scene from Shameless.

Notes:

Toya-16 (run away)/24 (beginning/main plot)/26 (fuyumi in college)/29 (natsuo in college/shoto in hero school)

Work Text:

Toya sighs tiredly as he comes home, taking off his coat and hangs it up. He doesn’t like that he had to pick up extra shifts, even more exhausted than normal. His job sucks and he doesn’t get paid what he deserves, but he’ll be damned if he lets Fuyumi get a job. He would rather work ten jobs before letting her get a job or any of his siblings really. She’s in high school and wants her to focus on her education, not on their financial situation. Not only that, but her school doesn’t allow it and he won’t let her risk the punishments.

“Toya?” Fuyumi calls out, walking out of the kitchen.

“Yumi?” Toya frowns and checks the time, seeing it's four and it's early for her to be home, “Don't you have a club?”

“Cancelled. Came home after getting the groceries,” She explains and holds onto the drying rag, “The boys are downstairs playing football. They should be up soon.”

Toya nods and walks into the kitchen, debating if a beer or water sounds good. Considering he has to work at one in the morning for his security job, something non-alcoholic. He grabs one of the boys’ juice and leans against the counter. He saw the kitchen was clean, dishes were washed and put away, and food was being made. He turns to glare at Fuyumi, who sighs and raises up her hands.

“I did my homework, I’ve done my studying, I’m all caught up. Toya, you have to let me help,” Fuyumi tells him, crossing her arms, “I can help.”

“You need to focus only on your school,” Toya tells her and walks over, placing a hand on her head, “But thanks.”

Toya walks to the couch and sits down, exhaling a big breath and stares at the tv. It’s been eight years now. Eight years since he ran away from home with his siblings. He took them away one night and has never looked back to his old family.

“Let’s go. Come on guys.”

“What about mom and dad?”

“Fuyumi, now. Grab Natsu, I’ve got Shoto. We don’t have time.”

To be honest, Toya doesn’t know how he made it this far with three kids. The money he stole from his parents was enough to raise them for two years, but he stopped touching it and decided to save it for the three. He wanted them all to get the education he didn’t get to finish. Nobody seemed to question the sixteen year old prodigy when he dropped out of hero school, just went on with their life.

At eighteen years old, Toya got his first job. It was at a convenience store, something small but long enough hours to buy cheap food. He then got a second job at nineteen, pay was a little better, as security for a night club. They didn’t ask for much information, just a quick background check. For that, he was thankful. With a powerful quirk like his, they felt a little more safe.

“Blue fire? That’s your quirk? That’s pretty strong, Yukimura-san.”

“It is. However, just to warn you, I don’t have too much control of it yet. I’m still learning how to.”

That was another issue, his quirk. It was hostile, not suited for him. He hated his fire with a passion. Yet, he will train in private at an underground fighting ring to build resistance to it. That was another part, the underground fighting ring. That’s where he got the most cash, enough for bills.

The winner is, Dabi!”

“Okay Dabi, here’s your payment. Good fight, see you next week and you better win. Trust me, there’s a lot of money on you, kid.”

He knew Fuyumi hated it, but they needed money. He would not dip a finger in their college money. He’s really lucky Fuyumi got into high school with a scholarship, that way they don’t have to worry about money there.

Toya helped Fuyumi and Natsu with their quirks, both having an ice component quirk. It was pretty easy to help them out, having seen Rei’s up close and having done a lot of research on ice quirks. What came to be tricky was Shoto’s.

“Toya-nii! Shoto got his quirk! It’s so cool!”

“What is it?”

“Fire and ice! How cool is that?”

Toya looks at Shoto, bile rising up in his throat. He’s got both. He ended up being the master creation. If their parents were to ever catch wind of that, they would know where they are. He can’t have that happening. During the registry, he just listed down Cryokinesis. He will not have him coming after Shoto.

“You are to not use your fire in public at all, only at home or when you’re with us. After you’re fourteen, we’ll change it. Got it, Sho?”

“Okay!”

He ended up getting both fire and ice. The sight of Shoto was hard for him on his bad days, seeing as Shoto had half of their father’s appearance. Hell, even he refused to look in a mirror. Even after he dyed their hair black it was still hard. Though Shoto was a lively child and always had a smile on his face, just the sight of him made him want to scream.

It makes him feel guilty. His little brother has no fault for what they went through. He was just a baby after all. He’s just as innocent as they all are. So, Toya helped on his good days, which were now more frequent. He helped Shoto train fire while Fuyumi helped with ice. He had gotten the hang of it and now he didn’t combust at every little sneeze, jump scare, or when screaming. His primary school offered quirk counseling, so that helped as well.

(The quirk counselor knew of Shoto’s real quirk but kept it a secret after Toya spoke with them. Isamu-san was god sent for Toya.)

“No! Shoto, stop it!”

“It’s mine, Natsu!”

“I found it first!”

“Boys!” Toya groans as he sits up straight, “What’s going on?”

He was upset that his peace was disturbed but at least they pulled him out of his thoughts and memories.

“That’s my rock!” Shoto pouts and points at his brother.

“I found the shiny rock first!”

“Give it back!”

“No!”

“Enough!” Toya raises his voice, standing up and looks down at his brothers, “Share the rock or go find another one. Natsu, if Shoto is right, give it back. Shoto, if Natsu is right, then apologize for false blaming. Now change out of your uniforms. You know you’re not supposed to wear those during play time.”

Toya watches as both boys kick off their shoes and run off, still arguing about the rock. He shakes his head and walks to the kitchen and sees Fuyumi stirring the curry she’s making.

“You too, go change out of the uniform. I can take over.”

“But you should nap. You have work in a few hours.”

“Hey, I have seven hours,” Toya chuckles and takes over the spoon, “But if you want to help, you can put the uniforms to wash. I’ll hang them out to dry.”

“Fine,” Fuyumi lets out a huff and walks away, though glad she could take a small break. She was tired from having cleaned the apartment.

Toya hums and continues the cooking, looking at the recipe she was following. That’s how they both learned how to cook. They found a cookbook in the trash, grabbed it, and they use it for their meals now. It looked handwritten, personal to someone, so they took great care of it. After all, the meals from it were all delicious. It even taught him how to make rice in a pot if one didn’t have a rice cooker. Toya had to learn many things that a mother or father is supposed to do; sewing clothes, giving relationship advice, comfort, tying a shoe, cooking, and even giving the sex talk to Fuyumi. It was uncomfortable for the both of them, but Toya just wanted his baby sister to be safe. Besides, he was there for her first period and that was something else.

(The cashier took pity on Toya when she saw what he was buying. She ended up giving him a list of what he should buy, advice on what to do, and how to be there for Fuyumi. Toya may have shed a few tears of gratitude that day.)

“Toya-nii?”

Toya looks down and sees Shoto standing by his leg. He was thankful to be having a good day, so he could look at Shoto in his eyes. Half and half, just want that bastard wanted.

“Yes Sho?”

“An old man came to see me at school.”

“Oh yeah? Did you talk to him?” Toya asks, his danger senses going off.

“No. You said to not talk to strangers. I told him to go away,” Shoto explains and looks down at the rock he got back from Natsuo.

“Good. Did he go away?”

“No. He said his name was End-Endeavor.”

Toya stopped stirring the food and he looked down at the young boy with wide eyes. Endeavor. Todoroki Enji. No no no no no. This can’t be happening. How did he find Shoto? He dyes his hair and forbids Shoto from using his fire. However, the name Shoto isn’t very common. Shit! He should have seen this coming!

“Did he say anything to you?” Toya asks, dropping down to eye level with Shoto, “Did this man tell you anything else?”

“Just said I look like someone. Asked me for my name.”

“Did you respond?”

“No, I ran to my sensei and told her about the weird man. He left.”

“Good,” Toya says and hugs Shoto, ignoring the confused noise he made, “Never talk to strangers, Shoto. Never listen to that man. Okay?”

“You’re squishing me,” Shoto whines and tries to push away.

Toya hugs him for a little while longer and sends Shoto away, having him go watch some tv. Toya stands up straight and looks down at the curry, making sure it didn’t burn, then lets his mind wander. Hopefully Endeavor didn’t recognize much of Shoto, but how many children have heterochromia and the colors being blue and grey? He’s sure Shoto is the only one. If Endeavor saw Shoto, does that mean he found Fuyumi and Natsuo? He can only do so much to hide their identities. He takes a deep breath to control himself, feeling the way his fire was burning to be released. He does his best to shake off his worries, focusing on finishing dinner for the kids and himself.

And so he does.

He pushes all of his focus on making dinner. They would have as always, and so they did. He would clean up the table and have them finish up any homework that has to be done, helping them out if he can or Fuyumi would step in to check. Toya gets a phone call from his job saying he had the night and week off as the club would be closed for some renovations. When he’s promised his check would be the same as always, he gives in and hangs up. Now he has hours to kill and decides he could go visit Shimura Tenko while the children do homework. It has been a while since he’s visited his good friend, especially since he works long hours as a pro. The Dusty Hero. He will never let Shimura live that down. Maybe his adoptive dad will make them good drinks.

“Fuyumi! I’ll be going out!”

“How long?!”

“Two hours maybe! I don’t know!”

“Don’t be late!”

“Yeah yeah,” Toya chuckles to himself and walks to the door, putting on his boots. He grabs his keys and whistles for someone to come lock the door. He could do it himself, but this way so he knows that the door is actually locked.

After a close call with a break in, he is not risking it.

“See ya, Toya!” Natsuo smiles as he runs over.

“Behave for Fuyumi,” Toya ruffles his hair and walks out.

Toya had a nagging feeling as he walked down the streets, stopping as he reached down the stairs and checked the area. He’s not sure what this feeling is and it makes him want to go home. At the end, he shakes his head and decides that maybe he’s just exhausted. Toya takes out his phone, texting his friend, getting a quick response.

Hey Dusty, I’m up for some drinks. Night off today. You?

I’m down, burnt bacon. Get your ass over here.

You’re gonna pay for that, bastard.

D:

Toya spends a few good hours with Shimura, catching up with new developments and even gets to meet his new corgi, Akio. Toya has fun with the dog and thinks back to the powerpoint that Fuyumi made as to why they should get a pet. Though he did like the idea, they do not have permission to have a pet. Though, thanks to that powerpoint, Toya volunteers at the animal shelter when he has free time. He ends up leaving around ten, needing to make sure the kids are in bed. He excuses himself, thankful he only drank two beers, telling Shimura they need to meet up again. As he departed and walked back to his apartment complex, the nagging feeling came back. Toya groans to himself, rubbing his chest. He can’t put his finger as to why this feeling was back again.

“No. He said his name was End-Endeavor.”

It was that. Of course it was that. How the hell could he forget so quickly? He almost had a breakdown due to that conversation. But, Endeavor cannot find them. Maybe it’s just eeriness he feels anytime he hears about him. Toya takes deep breaths as he continues walking, arriving at his apartment soon enough. As he does arrive, he sees a car parked in his parking spot. As he didn’t have a car, that space was always empty. No one ever parked there, not unless they asked him for permission. As he walks closer, his heart starts to beat faster as he can recognize a few things.

“No no no,” Toya whispers, shaking his head as he stands in front of it. He does his best to control his breathing, but the sight of the car made him want to throw up.

His siblings. That snapped him out of his thoughts quickly.

Toya starts running up the stairs, even two at a time. He is hoping, wishing and praying, that it isn’t them and someone who happens to have the same car as him. Once he reaches the fourth floor, he takes out his keys to unlock the door but stops when he turns the knob. He slowly pushed it open and he knew something was wrong. The door is never to be unlocked.

“Let me give him a hug, sweetie.”

“He said no. He doesn’t know who you are.”

“When is he coming home?”

“I don’t know, soon hopefully.”

Toya walks in and looks at the living room, eyes wide at the sight of the two adults. It got very quiet once eyes were laid on him, except that Shoto was making noise as he played with his action figures. Toya sets down his keys in the bowl and takes off his jacket, hanging it up but never breaking eye contact. Toya felt like he was watching a quick rundown of his life years ago, even being able to smell burning flesh and hear his screams. He felt suffocated. He felt like he was ten again. But he couldn’t break down.

Not in front of his siblings.

“How did you find us?” Toya slams the door shut, dropping his keys and coat, heavy boots stomping over to the living room. “What the hell are you doing here?” Toya asks the two adults in his living room.

Right now, house etiquette was the least of his worries. He needed these bastards out of his apartment.

There was a silence in the room and the air was thick, even Natsuo was having trouble swallowing. Fuyumi held Shoto close to her, averting her eyes from anyone, now staring at the ground. Enji and Rei stare at their eldest son, seeing the way smoke was coming out of his hands and mouth, blue eyes burning holes through them. They realized they would have trouble with their request, and that Toya would not be going down with a fight.

“Toya-”

“Get out,” Toya shakes his head, turning to look at Enji, “Get the hell out.”

“Please listen to us,” Rei pleads with her son, taking a step forward, “Toya, this is important.”

“No!” Toya raises his voice and blue flames erupt from his hand, glaring down at Rei, “No! I don’t want to hear anything from you! From either of you!”

“Toya, maybe we should listen to her,” Fuyumi whispers from her spot, watching as Shoto was entertained with his toys. It was either that or he was really trying to block out the world.

Toya looks down at his sister and over to his other brother, seeing him curled up in the corner of the couch. He lets out a deep breath and decides to do his best to stay calm. He looks back at the adults and gives a curt nod. If he doesn’t like what they have to say then he will kick them out without second thought. He moves to stand behind the couch, crossing his arms across his chest as Rei takes a stand while Enji sits down.

“You will have to talk through Toya. He will not listen to me. Got it, Rei?”

“Of course, dear. Don’t worry, we’ll get Shoto back.”

“I know I haven’t been there,” Rei starts off and looks at Toya, “And for that I am so sorry. I have missed all of you and never stopped thinking about any of you. We thought that maybe giving you space would be the best idea.”

If Toya wasn’t furious before, he sure is now. He was doing his best to keep his emotions in check as his quirk responded to his emotions. Right now, he felt the itch to burn something.

“But we decided to come over to say the time has come,” Rei looks around, then down at where Shoto was sitting, in front of Fuyumi.

“Wait, you knew where we were this whole time?” Fuyumi asks and looks at her parents, neither looking at her.

“Time for what?” Natsuo asks and looks over at his mom, hugging his knees close to him.

“Rei and I want to take Shoto and raise him, finish raising our family,” Enji replies, looking over at his second son.

What?” Toya asks, alarms going off in his head, “No fucking way. You can’t have Shoto.”

“Shoto needs a proper mother and father in his life,” Enji shrugs and looks at Rei, who nods at what he says, “It is very important for children to have a mother and father influence in his life. If you were to have kids of your own, you would understand the importance of a male and female figure in a household. Shoto is coming with us.”

“No, out of the fucking question, Enji,” Fuyumi responds quickly, shocking everyone that she cursed and used his name instead of dad. What he said hit a deep nerve with her, especially after seeing how Toya kills himself to raise them.

Toya could not believe what Rei was saying. His own mother. His jaw dropped as he heard the way she said it so nonchalant, as if taking his little brother was nothing major. His eyes darted to Shoto, who was now still but not saying anything. He’s too young to remember any of the abuse they went through, but he would be damned if Shoto goes through that.

“Your father and I want our family back again. It would be best if Shoto comes back with us,” Rei does her best to explain, “He is still young and we have time to raise him.”

“Well you should have tried to finish this one first!” Toya exclaims and couldn’t erase the shock from his face, “Should have put the effort you’re putting in for Shoto for all of your kids, Rei!”

“You’re taking Shoto?” Natsuo whimpers out, tears welling up, looking at the grown ups.

“No!” Fuyumi and Toya both exclaim, eyes now on Rei, “Nobody is taking anybody anywhere!” Fuyumi tells Natsuo, but eyes are still on Rei and arms around Shoto.

“You don’t get to abandon your kids and show up one day to take your pick of the litter,” Toya states as he walks over to Rei, standing no more than a foot away from her.

“You ran away from me!”

“Because you cared more for a man than your kids! We were pretty much abandoned!” Toya raises his voice one more, clenching down his jaw as he hears Shoto whimper.

“Oh that’s not fair. Your mother and I both made mistakes, but we’re here now,” Enji says as he stands up from the chair, standing next to Rei, “That has got to count for something!”

“Shut up, Enji!” Toya and Fuyumi yell at him, Toya close to his face, “This isn’t about you!” Toya stares at him until Enji sits down once more, attention back on Rei, “This is about you. This is about what you didn’t do. This is about what I did.”

Toya and Rei stare at each other, both having different looks in their eyes. Rei’s eyes held desperation, as if needing Toya to understand her situation. Toya couldn’t and wouldn’t. His own eyes held anger and betrayal, feeling as if his mother never tried for them. Now that Shoto is what Enji has always wanted, now she decides to come back. She came back after five years his quirk presented. She is now back after eight years since they ran away. She knew why they had left, he left a note. A note that stated that if she too desired to leave, to meet him within a week in a specified location. She never came and Toya moved on for the sake of his siblings.

“And you know what?” Toya asks, taking a step back, “I did a fucking great job. Fuyumi is class president,” He walks over to her, standing behind her, “She’s on the debate team, on her way to nationals. She is top of her class, of her school. She set the curve. She’s in her school on scholarship, already studying at a college grade level.”

Toya moves over to Natsuo, placing a hand on his shoulder, “Natsuo tested out of English. English, at the age of thirteen. He’s also top of his class when it comes to science, even finding a way to use his ice in a healing manner,” Toya remembers the call he got from the school and how the nurse bragged about Natsuo’s natural talent, “He is the best football player in his class year, the best the school has seen.”

Toya moves back to Shoto, looking down at the youngest. He was still blocking out everything, seeing how he kept playing with his toys but clinged onto Fuyumi. He shouldn’t have to be dealing with this. This is what he wanted to avoid.

“And Shoto is also top of his class at a young age! He made something blow up for his science fair!” Toya could feel a knot in his throat, his voice cracking at the end.

“Fuyumi has such a natural talent for teaching. She’s helped so many students get better grades. I think she would do amazing as an educator. She says it is all thanks to you.”

“Natsuo is a joy to have around. He can make anyone laugh, even when they’re injured. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s an EMT or even a doctor.”

“Shoto is a little shy, but he’s made friends with my son. He’s quirkless and many children are so cruel, but not Shoto. I’m glad he’s Izuku’s friend. I think Shoto is Izuku’s hero.”

“And you know what? They did it all, no thanks to you!” Toya wipes away his tears, rage filling his entire being, “Because. You. Weren’t. Here!”

The room went quiet and there was a stare off. Toya swears this is the most intense eye contact he’s ever had with someone. Usually when someone stares at him this way, Toya is ready to physically fight. He would fight his father if he had the chance, but he can’t fight his mother. No matter how much resentment he holds towards her, he can’t hate her the way he hates his father.

Rei breaks the silence first by sniffling and wiping her tears with the sleeve of her shirt, “And I appreciate that, Toya. I do. You’ve done a better job than I ever could,” She utters, clearing her throat, “But I’m here now and Shoto belongs with me. With Enji and I.”

“He doesn’t even know who you are!” Toya looks at her desperately, his hands moving to grip his hair.

“I’m his mother!” Rei declares, a hand over her heart.

“You were my mother too!” Toya points at himself, not being able to hold back his tears anymore. He lets a whimper escape from him, backing away from her.

A sob threatened to escape from Toya, but he covered his mouth. He swallows the knot building in his throat, looking at his mother. She had her own tears sliding down her cheeks, but Toya couldn’t trust them anymore. He was starting to see who his mother really is, what she really wants.

“I’ll never be able to make things right with you,” Rei whispers, looking over at Shoto who was now staring at them, “But there’s still time with Shoto. And Fuyumi, Natsuo.”

The other Todoroki kids move their attention from Toya to Rei, scooting away as she walks over to kneel in front of them.

“I’m so sorry if I ever hurt you. That I wasn’t here. I hope you can forgive me and your daddy.”

They stare at her and Fuyumi was the first to respond by shaking her head. Natsuo was doing his best to keep his crying quiet, but was now letting out hiccups. He shakes his head slowly, burying his head between his knees. Rei was disappointed when they both rejected her, but she was here for Shoto either way. She looks at Enji, who just sighs and gets up.

“I’m willing to hand over money,” Enji speaks up, attention mostly towards Toya, “I will make sure you live comfortably if you hand over Shoto an-”

“Out,” Toya musters out with all his might.

“What? Are you even listening to me?”

“I said out!” Toya screams, finally releasing what he was holding in for the past hour, “I want you abusers out of my apartment! Out! Get out !”

Toya’s arms were engulfed in flames, grinding down his teeth, tearful glares directed at who he called his parents. He thought he couldn’t ever hate Rei, but he saw that he could. He abhors them. Fuyumi took that as her cue to get her brothers away from the situation quickly and into the bedroom, even putting up an ice wall in the hallway. Toya was trying his best to keep his emotions in check, but seeing the way that Enji was looking down at him made his blood boil. It didn’t help that Rei was sticking by Enji’s side.

“You’re being absurd, Toya. Also, you may want to stop that. I am a pro-hero and I can arrest you,” Enji threatens, which did not help the situation.

“Then arrest me!” Toya shouts now, his flames growing stronger and now burning him, “Arrest me and I will tell everything! I know of an underground hero who is willing to testify on my side! A detective with a lie detector quirk who will corroborate my story! I will bring you down, Endeavor !”

That seemed to push Enji into wanting to leave. Toya glares at him and then directs it towards the woman who he used to consider his mother. He walks over to her, not caring for the arm in front of her. His flames died down and he was starting to feel pain all over his body from overusing his quirk. Rei just stares at Toya, her grey eyes cold. Cold. A feeling he is very much used to.

“I want to never see you again. I do not want either of you around my siblings. I want full custody over them and for neither of you to claim them. You are to deposit money in their accounts that is the equivalent of a full high school tuition, college tuition, two years worth of rent. Don’t you dare say you don’t have the money. I know you do. It is the least you can do after what you put them through. Deal?”

Toya knew extorting was not legal. Of course he knew what was and wasn’t legal. Hell, he’s a confidential informant some nights. Money has to come from somewhere. But his siblings deserved to feel stress free when it came to money. He didn’t care for himself, he was a grown adult and able to support himself.

“We get to be there for their high school graduations,” Rei counteroffers, taking a step forward.

“Only if they allow it.”

“I get to recommend Shoto to U.A.”

“No,” Toya stands his ground on that, “He will not be your son anymore. He will choose his own path. Neither you or I will influence him. Whatever he chooses, is his own choice. Do we have a deal?”

“Deal.”

“Deal.”

“Now get the hell out of my house,” Toya spits out with disgust, watching as they turn away from him. He makes sure they leave and stomps over, locking up the door.

Once he locks up, he lets him sob. He lets himself break. He always stays strong for his siblings so they can feel safe, but he needs to be vulnerable. He slams his palm against the door, his blood still boiling inside him. He never thought he would have to face them again, but in a way, Toya is glad he did. He was able to let out the resentment he had towards Rei. His resentment towards Enji was always clear and didn’t bother to hide it. Yet, with Rei, he always swallowed it down as she too was abused. But tonight, she showed her true colors. She could be, she was, just as bad as him. Her way was just more emotional than physical. That is what stung more, her pretending to care, when all she wanted was Shoto.

Toya takes time to compose himself, almost thirty minutes to do so. He wipes his nose on his sleeve, seeing his long sleeves were burnt off. Great, just great, He shakes his head and kicks off his boots, deciding to clean the living room later. He’s glad the fire alarm didn’t go off once he burst into flames. Talking about flames, he had to bandage himself before they scarred. Toya made a mental reminder to go to his friend with a healing quirk tomorrow. Toya sees a puddle of water in the hallway, sighing softly. He just walks over it, some of it starting to evaporate. He knocks on the door and Fuyumi cracks open the door, then fully opens it.

“Are they gone?”

“Yeah. They are. You don’t have to worry about them anymore.”

“Toya-nii,” Shoto looks at his brother, tears starting to pour out now that the other adults were gone, “That was scary.”

“Oh Shoto,” Toya whispers, taking off his socks quickly and rushes towards him.

Shoto threw himself to Toya, hugging him tightly as he cried. Natsuo and Fuyumi rush over and hug Toya as well, letting themselves cry. Toya holds his three siblings as best as he could, fresh tears welling up as well. The four of them cry over what happened, holding onto each other for comfort. Toya may not get answers to his questions, such as how they were found and why Rei allowed this, but he would move on. He’s good at that. If they fall asleep on the floor, all of them together with dry tear tracks, then so be it.

They were together and would stay together.

About two months later, Toya gets the official papers turning custody over to him. Enji must have pulled strings to not get this to court. Toya signs and he changes all of their last names to Yukimura except for Shoto’s. He wanted Shoto to have that decision for himself once the day comes. So, for now, Shoto goes back to his legal last name of Todoroki. Toya gets four separate checks in the mail, a check for each kid, with more than what Toya asked for. He deposits the money for his siblings, using his own check to get them a decent house. Nothing too big, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a nice backyard and in a decent enough neighborhood. Fuyumi and Toya get their own room, Shoto and Natsuo sharing a bedroom. The rest of the money is used on bills, groceries, sometimes spoiling the four of them to take outs or anything necessary they need. He had enough to last him a while.

The years seem to slowly go by and he sees Fuyumi go off to college to be a teacher. Soon enough Natsuo goes off to college to be a doctor. Shoto ended up going to hero school, deciding to keep his last name and rebrand it. He would use the Todoroki name for good.

“Are you Endeavor’s son?”

“No, I’m not.”

“You share the same last name as him.”

“He is not my father, trust me. A father is not someone who you share a name with, it’s how they raise you. I was raised by a truly amazing man who is more of a father than Endeavor will ever be.”

Toya had a good life as well. He ended up quitting underground fighting, would swing by every now and then. He quit his retail job, only keeping his security job. He liked that job the most. Around the time Fuyumi left for college, he met a pro-hero. Hawks is how he went by, but his name is Takami Keigo. It was rocky as Hawks was always busy, but they made it work out. Around the time that Shoto was entering hero school, they were engaged. One year later, they’re married. They don’t change last names, but live together in the house that Toya had bought.

“Did you really have to move the bird in?”

“We’re engaged, Shoto.”

“Well, duh, but he'll leave feathers around.”

“Oh please, you like him. You have hero merch of his in your room. Even your little boyfriend likes to come over now.”

“He’s not my boyfriend!”

Toya sometimes wonders what life would have been like if he hadn’t run away. Would he have killed himself? Would he have turned into a different lifestyle like villainy? Hell, he’s not sure what life would have been like. He doesn’t like to think of that.

For now, he is content with life. His siblings are thriving, genuine smiles on their face, and everything was just how it had to be.

Let me know what you think and if you want a continuation. I have a few ideas for this.
