If there was one thing Tim both like and loathed about the job, especially when he patrolling by himself, is the unpredictability of the job. On the one hand, surprise was the spice of life and you could encounter a lot of interesting things out here. On the other, he didn't like being in a situation that he couldn't completely control. The last one was a real soar note because it happened far too often for his liking.
Currently Batman was on a training mission with Cass and so he flew solo. Thankfully this was a slow night, much to his relief. Not a sign of anything bigger then a mugging in sight. He was about to call it early, when he spotted a object swinging across buildings. It was a person, that much was obvious, a small female from shape and wearing a hood.
“Dammit Stephanie, we talked about this.” Tim was upset that Stephanie Brown, aka Spoiler was back in costume and out in the field. Don't get him wrong, Tim liked Stephanie, possibly more then he would like to admit, but this life wasn't for her. Tim wasted no time in chasing the hooded form, thinking he should keep up with her.
At least that was the plan. Somehow, Stephanie was able to avade quite well, both in speed and in maneuverability. Since when did Steph learn how to move like that was the thought Tim had. Did she get trained by someone? He could imagine Bruce doing this as he was as against Steph taking the costume as he was, if not more so. Cass wasn't much of the training type, Dick was in Bludhaven and he doubt that Babs or any of the Birds of Prey would do so, at least without telling him.
After about 10 minutes of trying to keep up, Tim seemed to have pushed her to a nearby roof top. Tim scanned the area, not seeing were she got to. If Steph was playing games, which wouldn't be out of character for her, he wasn't in the mood after that long ass chase. Suddenly he heard the sound of feet hitting ground, causing Tim to turn around to see...
“Wait, you're not Spoiler!” And indeed it wasn't. Outside of being a female with a hood, her costume was nothing like Spoiler's. It was a black and white costume with a little bit of magenta thrown it. What was noticeable, the magenta was intersected by a web pattern.
“Spoiler? No, I'm not something that gives away crucial plot points in a story” Tim's focus was broken by the mysterious girl's comment. This wasn't Stephanie, that much was clear. Though Tim had to admit that she certainly filled out a costume as well as her, if not more as that suit was less bulky then Spoiler's. Clearing his head from youthful hormones, he stated the obvious question.
“Who are you and why are you here?”
“Don't know exactly” The mysterious girl stated “I was in New York a moment ago and now I'm here. Where ever here is”.
“Gotham City”. It wasn't a name that the mystery girl known as Gwen Stacy was familiar with. But it did tell her that she was in another universe. Again, it is to her eternal annoyance.
Well then” Gwen spoke “I guess I'll just see myself out of your fair city”. Gwen turned to make her leave, when the bird-a-rang flew near her feet, stopping here in her tracks.
“Sorry, but we tend to question when mysterious people in costume suddenly arrive in this city” Tim said, ready for a possible fight. Gwen was more then happy to give him one.
“Well aren't we testy. Alright then”. Gwen charged at Tim, the boy wonder throwing a couple more bird-a-rangs at Gwen, only for her to dodge on and shoot web at another, much to Tim's surprise and annoyance. Gwen went to a flying kick only for Tim to block it. Dropping to the ground, Gwen hit a leg sweep, which Tim to recover with a flip. It was clear to Tim that this girl was both skilled and fast. She might even be a meta-human.
Tim then decided to use misdirection by using a smoke bomb. Smoke filled the rooftop, with Gwen not being able to see. Little did Tim know, Gwen didn't need eyes to know were he was. Gwen stood still for a moment, letting Tim come to her. Suddenly spider sense as Tim struck with Gwen effortlessly dodging it, grabbing his arm and performing a back throw, propelling Tim across the roof and flat on to the ground.
Before Tim could rise, his arms and legs were bound by webbing. Gwen was now hovering over Tim. He would like to think that this girl wasn't some maniac, but this was Gotham, so he couldn't rule out the possibility. Yes, she said she wasn't from Gotham, but she could be lying. And its not like people weren't changed by this city. Gwen leaned over, Tim's heartbeat increasing in anticipation for what could happen next.
“Tell me” Gwen spoke “What does the R on your costume stand for?”
“Robin”.
“You don't look very bird like” Like Tim hadn't heard that before.
“You know” Gwen continued “Some species of spiders eat birds”. Gwen's voice wasn't menacing when she spoke that sentence. It was more seductive then anything else. Tim didn't know if that was a good thing or bad thing in this case. Gwen leaned in closer, removing her mask as she did, though only up to her nose.
You know, even with that domino mask, you look kind of cute” Before Tim could reply, Gwen planted a big kiss on his lips. After a moment, she broke away and turned to make her leave.
“Maybe I'll see around, bird boy” Gwen said.
“Also, that webbing should dissolve in about an hour, so don't worry.” With that, Gwen swung away, disappearing into the night. Thankfully, has a retractable blade inside his gloves that was able to cut the web away.
Tim stood up, looking for were Gwen may have gone, even if it was futile at this point. He touched his lips, the heat from Gwen's kiss still lingering. Tim then thought back to his thoughts on the unpredictability of this job and how it could be good and bad. This, he guessed, was on of the good ones.
Elsewhere, Gwen was having thoughts of her own on unpredictability. One is her actions as she wasn't little miss vamp. Must have gotten it from the Felicia Hardy from Spider-Man's universe. The other is being in this universe, which was par the course given her hopping from universes in the past.
Still, if this night was any indication, she was going to like this little jolt of unpredictability. And she was sure that before she found her way out of this reality she would encounter Robin again. Something she was looking forward to.
