“Congratulations!”
“Hyung,” Seokmin’s eyes widened as he saw the older witch holding a muffin with a little candle on it. It was 8am, way too early for his mentor to be this bright and loud. “What’s-
“Congratulations on your first day as the co-owner of Little Shop of Healing.”
“We celebrated yesterday already.” And quite hard, Seokmin still had a thunderous headache and Jeonghan was suspiciously bright eyed.
(Even when their friends had left and their boyfriends had passed out, Jeonghan and Seokmin had kept the drinks flowing until a little too long. So how the hell was Jeonghan looking unaffected?)
“The party yesterday was for you getting your witching license, this muffin is for you having your first day as my co-worker rather than my apprentice,” Jeonghan spoke gently, voice warm and sweet. “I got up early to bake it myself. This is the only one that came out looking nice.”
Jeonghan was a master at potion making, but he was still a novice in the kitchen when it came to magicless cooking. Despite his hammering head, Seokmin felt his mood brighten; it was sweet of Jeonghan to try and the chocolate muffin honestly did look good. “Thank you, hyung.” He walked over to the counter and accepted the muffin, blowing out the candle. Jeonghan’s familiar, a small white cat, bumped its head against the hand Seokmin had on the counter and he petted it lightly before tearing a piece off of the muffin.
The muffin melted in his mouth, the chocolate rich in flavour. Maybe it was the serotonin boost, but he felt instantly better and more awake. Even his own familiar, a big sized wolf, perked up where it had rested by the door, looking interested enough to saunter over and press against Seokmin’s legs.
“It’s delicious, hyung!”
Jeonghan was still smiling brightly. “I added some herbs in it that will help with your hangover.”
Ah, that explained it.
“After you finish eating it, I expect you to start on the batch of energy potions. We sold more than I thought last week.”
Seokmin groaned. “I’m still going to have to do the grunt work, huh?”
“No, I expect you to be able to do specialised potions too, but we desperately need more energy potions.” Jeonghan side eyed Seokmin. “Unless you want to do inventory instead and I’ll brew the batch.”
This caused Seokmin to instantly panic. “No thanks, hyung! I’ll brew the batch, no worries.”
The older witch laughed softly, eyes twinkling. “Take your time and enjoy the muffin.” He ruffled Seokmin’s hair affectionately. “But please do start on the batch before we open the shop.”
Seokmin nodded, mouth full of another another piece of the savoury muffin, his free hand absentmindedly petting his familiar.
It was his first day as a witch with his own witching license, after having toiled through various tests and exams. This meant he was no longer Jeonghan’s apprentice, something he had been for the last two years. Two fantastic years he treasured.
There had been ups and downs, but every moment since he had become Jeonghan's apprentice had been an irreplaceable experience and he had met so many wonderful people and formed life changing bonds. He had even met his boyfriend Mingyu thanks the apprenticeship.
Seokmin could only hope the future would be just as amazing and eventful.
(He had a feeling it would)
