Lan Wangji’s heart seized at the ringing of his phone. He stared at the screen for a second before tapping the ‘accept’ button, and pressing the phone to his ear.
“Lan Zhan!”
Lan Wangji blinked. “Wei Ying.”
“Woah” Wei Wuxian said, there was a shift before his voice got closer to the speaker. “Your voice is deep”
Lan Wangji felt the heat rise up to his ears. “Mn.”
Wei Wuxian laughed, and something bloomed in Lan Wangji’s chest.
“Mn as always, you fuddy duddy.”
“Yours is,” Lan Wangji hesitated. “Cheerful.”
“Aw you think so?” Wei Wuxian was smiling, Lan Wangji could hear it. Though it did nothing to calm him down, it was still a welcomed sound.
“Yes.”
“Okay!” Wei Wuxian cheered. “Let’s get this started, yeah?”
“Alright.” Lan Wangji pressed play and leaned back on his sofa.
He could hear the same movie noises coming from his phone. He dragged his gaze to the television screen and started watching the movie.
“Lan Zhan” Wei Wuxian whispered.
Lan Wangji’s attention snapped back to his phone. “Yes, Wei Ying.”
“Are our children watching the movie with us?”
Lan Wangji’s stomach did a turn. “They are.”
He reached down and started petting the black bunny on his lap. Our children, it echoed inside his head.
Wei Wuxian sighed loudly. “Not fair. You must be petting them right now.”
Lan Wangji felt the corner of his lips lift. “I am.”
“So not fair!!” Wei Wuxian whined, muffled.
“I told you before, you are welcomed to come see them if you really want to.”
“Are you sure about that? You know I’m the kind of a person who will break into your place whenever I want to.”
Lan Wangji turned to the screen once again. “If it’s Wei Ying, I won’t mind.”
Wei Wuxian made a strangled noise and that ended the conversation.
They continued watching the movie in peace. With the addition of Wei Wuxian’s chuckles and laughter at certain scenes, and Lan Wangji’s questions about certain events.
By the time the movie came to an end, Wei Wuxian was quiet. Completely quiet. Lan Wangji already got used to the sounds of shuffling and fidgeting during the movie, but right now, there were none.
He looked at the screen of his phone. The call was still ongoing. He can hear the hum of the movie credits music from the other end.
“Wei Ying?” He called in a hushed tone.
There was no answer.
Lan Wangji pressed off the speaker icon and put the phone to his ears. Only then did he catch the barely evident sound of soft snoring.
He huffed in fondness and whispered, “Good Night, Wei Ying.” Before hanging up and going to bed.
