Chapter Text
Hissashi followed the soft noises of the flute through the cold desert sands.
The usually hot sand was cool in the midnight environment, providing him additional protection from prying eyes. His long thick tail trailed behind him as he slithered towards the source. The noise lulled to him, pulling him into a trance. A snake charmer, no doubt. However, there was something so familiar by the sound of the soft whistles that he allowed himself to be carried towards it.
He was only mildly surprised it was coming from the camp of the two travelers. All Might and his little successor.
The boy, who was conducting a flute gracefully, was sitting on a large rock next to a crackling fire. He had his back to Hisashi, but he could see his fingers nimbly dance across the instrument in the glow of the fire.
Yagi was sitting on the other side of the fire, carefully sharpening his weapon. A content smile was on his face as he listened to his student play his instrument.
The boy finished his song and All Might beamed at him.
“That was wonderful, young Midoriya!” He went back to polishing his blade, still gushing over the boy. “You could end up being quite the snake charmer with those skills.”
The boy laughed, his green curls bobbing at the movement. “Thank you. I just can’t seem to get any snakes to listen to me, though. It’s a bit frustrating.”
Yagi chuckled and quickly assured him. “I’m sure you just need practice. Besides, you’re still learning your magic. There’s plenty of room for improvement.”
The boy must have nodded, because his curls bounced again.
There was a noticeable silence for several minutes. The boy oiling his instrument carefully and his master working on his weapon. The naga was about to head back to his home when a new song filled the air.
A soft lullaby. One he knew every note of. He whipped back around to study the boy as he played the lullaby his mother would play for him and younger his brother. Only he and Yoichi knew that song. How did this child know of it?
Hisashi held back his ire and settled back into the sand, watching the boy intently from his hiding place.
The surroundings seemed to hold their breath as the child played the soft melody. All Might froze and watched him carefully. He seemed entranced by the boy’s song as well.
The music continued until, too soon, the song came to its end. The boy set his instrument down and looked to his master. The man's withered face beamed in pride. “That was simply beautiful, my boy. What song is that?”
The boy seemed a bit startled. If his tone of voice was anything to go off of. “Oh! It’s nothing you would know. My dad would play it for me when I had nightmares when I was little.”
All Might nodded.
His father? His father?! Who was this man? How did he know his song?
Deciding he needed to figure it out himself, Hisashi hunkered down and waited for the two to retire for the night. From there he could simply snatch the boy away. Right from under Yagi's nose.
He smiled maliciously as he thought of how the man would react upon realizing his successor had been stolen away in the night.
His lips pursed as he glowered, staying hidden. It was all about waiting-
