Work Text:
Jeongin woke up with his head throbbing.
How did he get in a hospital bed?
“Oh, you’re awake!”
Jeongin snapped out of his daze, attempting to move his head in the direction of the voice and failing miserably.
“Oh no, don’t move. It’ll hurt too much.”
The boy finally came into view, checking Jeongin’s temperature.
Wow, he was pretty.
“Who are you? How did I get here?”
The boy laughed before sitting on the edge of his bed.
“I’m Felix. As for how you got here, all I know is that a short boy came running in carrying you. He said you got hit with a bludger during practice, and from the looks of it, you might’ve gotten a concussion.”
A short guy? Changbin must’ve taken him here after the accident.
“Well, aren’t you going to tell me who you are? Or should I just keep referring to you as bludger boy?”
“It’s Jeongin. Yang Jeongin.”
Felix chuckled at the younger boy.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Jeongin.”
-
Jeongin indeed did have a concussion, just as Felix predicted, causing him to have to visit the hospital wing every other day for two weeks.
Changbin said that was a bit excessive, but its not like Jeongin was complaining. He had learned alot about Felix from those visits.
He learned that Felix was in his sixth year, a year older than Jeongin, and he was also a Hufflepuff. Jeongin also learned that Felix began working at the hospital wing in his second year as an apprentice.
Jeongin was mesmerized by Felix to the point where he had begun to fake injuries just to see him after his concussion wore off.
Yes, he’s aware that it’s a bit pathetic to fake injuries to see a boy, it’s not like they couldn’t meet at other times. But Jeongin didn’t want to share his time with Felix. And he was a coward.
It started with him pretending to have a headache. It was simple and it made sense.
However, as time went on, the excuse got old and he needed new ones, those weren’t his brightest moments.
-
Felix was well aware that Jeongin wasn’t injured. although It wasn’t hard to tell. The boy came in for a splinter once. And he didn’t even have one.
It’s not like Felix minded. He enjoyed the younger’s presence and he wouldn’t lie, there were times where he would have Jeongin come in when he didn’t need to.
There was no need for Jeongin to have to come in every other day for two weeks, even with a concussion. In fact, he probably would have only had to come in once a week if it wasn’t for Felix.
“You should talk to him. It’s pitiful seeing him try to come up with an excuse to come see you.”
Madam Pomfrey would always say, but Felix didn’t want to risk this thing ending. So he played along.
-
“Hey, Jeongin! What can I do for you today?”
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
“Um well you see, I kinda fell off my broom.”
Felix giggled at this. Jeongin thought he must’ve looked pathetic.
“Did you get hurt anywhere?”
“Just on my shoulder, I think I landed on it weird.”
It wasn’t a lie. His shoulder did hurt, but not enough for him to go to the hospital wing.
“Hm well let me take a look.”
Felix smiled, inching closer to take a look at his shoulder.
“It doesn’t seem too bad. Maybe just a muscle problem. There’s no magic that could fix that. Just some good old ice. Here, I’ll wait with you while you ice it.”
Jeongin watched as the older boy grabbed a cold pack from Madam Pomfrey, not missing the blush that pops on his cheeks as she whispers something to him.
He can’t dwell too much on it. Before he knows it, Felix is back in front of him and placing the ice on his shoulder.
Jeongin hissed from the sudden chill on his arm.
“Oh, sorry. Didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“It’s okay, it was just a bit cold.”
Felix soon joins Jeongin on the hospital bed.
“So, how’s Quidditch practice?”
“Pretty good. Inseong is getting better at catching the snitch, hopefully, that’ll help our chances at winning against Slytherin this weekend.”
Felix nodded, not knowing what to say as he was still confused about how one can get better at catching a snitch.
“Are you going to be at the game?”
“I’m not sure. I don’t know much about quidditch and I don’t think any of my friends will be there.”
Jeongin pouted at Felix, grazing his hand without thinking.
“Please, Felix. I swear I’ll win if you come. I’ll let you sit with my friends, although they’re all touchy and gross, but that doesn’t matter. Please please please.”
“Okay, I’ll go. But only if I can sit with your friends.”
Jeongin jumped in excitement, groaning when the ice pack landed on his foot.
-
“What’s got you so dazed? Is it Felix? Did he finally figure out you’ve been faking injuries just to see him?” Hyunjin teased, earning a high five from Seungmin.
“Haha very funny,” Jeongin mumbled, rolling his eyes.
“So what is it?”
“Nothing… I was just wondering if Felix could sit with you two this weekend.”
The two glanced at each other before bursting into a fit of laughter.
“You two are evil.”
“We’re sorry. It’s just so funny. You looked like you were going through a crisis and all you had to ask was if Felix could sit with us? Of course, he can. Hyun and I will take good care of him, won’t we, Hyunjin?”
-
“Lix! Come here.”
Felix made his way over to the boys, heartbeat racing.
“Hi! I’m Felix. I’m a sixth year, like you guys.”
Hyunjin chuckled before grabbing the Hufflepuff’s hand to shake.
“Don’t worry. We know who you are. I’m Hyunjin and this is Seungmin. We’ve shared classes before. You’re really smart, like my Seungie here.”
Felix let out the breath he didn’t know he was holding as he watched Seungmin blush and punch the other. This wouldn’t be as bad as he thought.
“Hey, Guys. I have to go get back with my team. Do you mind showing Felix where you sit?”
The two nodded pushing him towards the team and assuring him that they’ll be good.
Jeongin was almost inside the changing rooms before turning around.
“Lix?! Don’t forget to cheer for me, okay?!”
“I Won’t! I Promise!”
-
The three sat in silence for about two seconds before Hyunjin spoke up.
“So, you and Jeongin huh? Are you guys a thing?”
“N-no, why would you ask that?”
The two giggled at the flustered boy.
“You guys just seem very close,” Seungmin assured him.
“Yeah and because Jeongin talks about him all the time.” Hyunjin jumps in, earning a smack from Seungmin.
Felix goes red. Jeongin talks about him to his friends?
“Oh. Only good things I hope.”
“Yeah, only good things indeed.”
-
Jeongin was nervous. This was the first game that Felix had agreed to go to since they became friends. There was no way he was going to mess this up.
“You good?” Changbin questioned.
“The game’s about to start.”
Jeongin shook his head.
“I’m okay. Just nervous.”
Changbin chuckled at the keeper’s sudden nervousness.
“You’ll do great. Let’s win this.”
The two nod just as the whistle blows. The game has begun.
-
Jeongin was doing well, he had somehow been able to keep all the quaffles away from his posts. Thank god.
Everyone else seemed to be doing alright, Changbin had scored a point as well as Mina. Ravenclaw was in the lead and it seemed as though Inseong had his sight on the snitch.
Jeongin listened as the crowd cheered. He took a quick peek at the pitch, Inseong was so close to touching it. Ravenclaw might win this match.
Jeongin felt the excitement rising in his chest. They were so close to winning he could feel it.
Sadly, Jeongin was too busy cheering to notice the bludger heading his way.
“Jeongin watch out!”
Before he could react, the ball hit him, the impact knocking him off his broom and onto the sand below.
-
Felix gasped in horror at the scene. Jeongin wasn’t moving.
Without thinking, Felix rushed out of his seat, making his way toward the unconscious boy.
“Oh my god, Jeongin wake up! Are you okay?”
No response.
Professors rushed down toward the boy.
“Is he breathing!” Someone asked.
Felix rushed to check his breathing, feeling the faint rising of his chest.
Good, he was still breathing.
“Felix, why don’t you take him to the infirmary, Madam Pomfrey can help you there. He should be just fine.” Professor Flitwick assured.
Felix just nodded, rushing away with Jeongin in his arms in the direction of the infirmary.
-
“Madam Pomfrey! Please help, Jeongin got hit really hard and he’s unconscious. I don’t know what to do.”
She watched as Felix ran in, tears streaming down his face.
“Place him on that bed, I’ll check on him.”
Felix did as told, never leaving the other’s side.
“Come on, Jeongin. Please wake up. I need you.” Felix muttered into his chest.
Madam Pomfrey gave the boy a reassuring smile.
“He’s okay. Just seems to have hit his head very hard. He might have another concussion, but I’ll have to check for that when he wakes up.”
Felix nodded, grabbing Jeongin’s hands in his.
“Why don’t you stay with him? That way someone can make sure he’s okay when he wakes up.”
“Of course! I’ll make sure he’s all taken care of. Thank you Madam Pomfrey!”
-
Felix waited by Jeongin’s side for hours, holding his hand. Jeongin stirred every once and a while, but he hasn’t woken up yet.
“Come on, Jeongin, please. Who will I pretend to tend to if you don’t wake up? I know you’ve been coming in just to see me. Well, I want to see you too, so please wake up.”
Nothing.
Felix began to cry again, panic rising in his chest.
“Please, Innie. Wake up. I really like you and if you don’t wake up, I won’t ever get to tell you.”
Jeongin still didn’t move.
It was pointless. Felix knew that no matter what he said, it wouldn’t wake him up. He just had to wait until Jeongin was ready.
-
Jeongin woke up with a pounding headache.
Where was he?
He looked around only to see nothing but empty beds and a sleeping Felix on his chest. Oh, right he had gotten hit towards the end of the game. Felix must’ve taken him here.
“Lix. Wake up.” Jeongin whispered, voice hoarse.
“Oh my god, Jeongin! You’re okay. I was so worried. I even started talking to you even though I know you couldn’t hear me. I’m so glad you’re okay. Let me go get you some water.” The Hufflepuff rambled before running off and getting some medicine and water for Jeongin.
Jeonginhappily took it, chugging the cup before laughing.
“Calm down, Lix. I’m okay. You don’t need to worry so much.”
Felix blushed before sitting back on the bed and checking for any signs of a concussion.
“You know, I did hear you earlier. When you were trying to wake me up.” Jeongin started. Felix looked bewildered.
“No no. Don’t panic, please. I think it’s a perfect opportunity to tell you how I feel as well. I like you, Lix. I have since the first day I got hit.”
“You do?” The older spoke, voice timid.
“Yes, and I would like it if we could hang out sometime.”
Felix turned red.
“Like a date?”
Jeongin chuckled at Felix’s confusion.
“Yea, a date.”
“And Lix.”
Felix glanced up at Jeongin expectantly.
“I really liked when you called me Innie.”
